I see that Ryan Shotton at Stoke is available. Good solid centre half and could easily do a job! Only 24 as well

Believable6 Unbelievable17

He no a full back?

GunnieBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he not a RB? A position that's probably our strongest with Lustig and Matthews.

Agree0 Disagree0

He can play all over the back, the times I seen him he was playing CB and looked decent, a bit clumsy in the challenge though.

Hi ed just wondering if Celtic are likely to be signing billy sharp I know we are favourites to sign him? {Ed007's Note - I don't think we are favourites to sign him. From what I have been told it will either be Doncaster Rovers or Bristol City he will join. He is worshipped in Doncaster and he is very close friends with Bristol City manager Sean O'Driscoll - so they would seem likely as he has never picked clubs on who pays the most - when he joined Doncaster originally he turned down double the money at a number of clubs.
Reading have spoken to his advisors, but it's not clear how the talks went.}

Ed I've heard we are going to bid for either Jelle Vossen or Alfred Finnbogason over the weekend. Have you any info about this? don't know how true it is

Lenny said at the presser for the Liverpool game he hopes to have somebody in Monday, the next CL deadline. This would suggest we are well down the line with negotiations. Interesting. green jhedi

Believable13 Unbelievable5

G.j.its only interesting if it ain't k.doyle.hopefully it will be a more predatory attacking force. Ghreengo.

Agree0 Disagree0

If its Kevin Doyle he needs a mighty kick in the chuckies! Lol think he needs to get us a cb or cf and both before the first game

Agree0 Disagree0

It's Marco Capuano of Pescara. Negotiations very advanced now and clubs are just ironing out a transfer fee. Medical booked in for Monday morning. The player should arrive in Glasgow on Sunday.

Agree0 Disagree2

I will believe it when I see it. Lennon has built up our hopes at least 3 times this transfer window and left us disappointed each time. This transfer window has left me less than impressed as we have lost 9 players so far with 4 brought in. 2 will probably play and 2 aren't better than what was already there. Also worryingly none of the youngster like Twardzik, Atajic, McGeough, Chalmers, George are turning into first team players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Its alfred

Agree0 Disagree0

I can categorically confirm we have not agreed anything for Capuano. Nor are any medicals booked in for monday morning.

Agree1 Disagree0

Lenny has came out and said he isn't interested in the young italian or kevin doyle.

Hi Ed. Has there been any further movement on Finborgasen (spelling).

I really think we need this lad in to scorethe goals that will take us to the Champ League group stage.

PL needs to get the cheque book out and act now! {Ed007's Note - There's nothing new that I know of, sorry.}

Believable12 Unbelievable6

We better get someone in sharpish-there is a few options if we actually push the button as Neil puts it. The talk has to stop-he's even saying today now that centre half is a position we MIGHT have to look at because Wilson is away. Talk about stroll on-you couldn't make it up. Vossen is a good striker also/Toivanen at PSV-good record and very experienced. Our midfielders are to similar also-none off them play with their head up and can play a splitting pass! Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Commons and Ledley can spray a pass pretty well. Commons was absolutely absent on Wednesday. I'm not hopeful on Finnbogason from what i've been told. Pistol Pete isn't going to shock or excite any of us with the value of transfers i'm afraid.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can see us holding of until we guarantee the group stages now - we should get through this play off round as we are. We have sold our best defender, mid and striker, I think we would get embarrased in the group stages going into it with this team. We will really miss wanyama in Europe, i'd be happy if we brought in 2 top class players, centre half with CL /international exp and a potentially top striker, Guidetti, Rhodes, Finbogssan, We need a lift, was watching the larsson clips on celtic tv, we are crying out for someone of that quality again

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does everyone keep referring to Wilson as our best DF? He wasn't even our best CB, never mind defender! Charlie Mulgrew, Mikael Lustig and Adam Matthews are all better players than KW.

shaktar karagandy away first,, deep river bhoy

Believable11 Unbelievable3

Mankini to the ready

Agree0 Disagree0

Delighted with this. Surely this the best draw we could have hoped for. They were beaten by St. Patrick's Athletic a few years back.

Agree0 Disagree1

Karagandy are woeful I just watched the highlights of there games against bate and the bate goalie needs shot and the away leg goal was offside

Agree0 Disagree0

We need CL football, that's why we need a goal scorer & central defender urgently, otherwise we could be left looking rather stupid if we fail to qualify after selling three 1st team players, come on PL let's get some quality in NOW!

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely with this draw we have a great chance to qualify. It would b a good time to splash the cash and get some quality in so they can gel for hopefully the group stages. No point in messin about anymore.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi guys. I was listening to today, the reporter was asked about the team we are playing and his comment was. "they are worse than Elfsborg who we just beat) however they did beat Bayern Munich last season. the guy said he thought we would go through.

HH
Cprs1

Agree0 Disagree0

Marco, their fans are probably watching Wednesday nights game, reading that Scottish football is falling to bits and rubbing their hands too.

Foxy

Agree0 Disagree0

Its the draw I was hoping for. No disrespect but surely Elfsborg are a better side? However, if we play like we did Wednesday night we might not get away with it twice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Here we go again we're on the rd again and another fake plastic pitch at least its a switch for the oposition as well these pitches do nothing for football why should the be used for top flight matches?
Thommyj

Agree1 Disagree0

Estana looks like a decent set up, so hopefully the plastic is better than it was in Elfsborg? Shouldn't be used like you say Thommy, but needs must, both teams need to adjust and then they need to come to paradise to play on a proper surface but this time in front of the best fans in the world :)
I'm always cagey on European games because if the standard of our league/setup, not happy with the traveling but slightly more confident than usual.

Bigbadjohn

I would urge caution over the Mankini! They took offence to Borat so fat naked guys from Lanarkshire might be in for a pelting from the local Polis!

I would imagine they play on aplastic pitch at home to

Just a thought folks.
Chris Baird. Northern Ireland defender. A decent lad with decent pedigree. Playing in the EPL until last season with Fulham. Has international experience. Only 31, and available for free. And he's a Celtic fan too. Surely he would make an excellent squad player. He is actually quite a sharp player too and could play a good role for us.

Hail Hail

Believable9 Unbelievable21

He was actually a player I was thinking about last year Chris when he was playing brilliant for Fulham(in the holding midfield role) I knew he only had a year to run on his contract at that point. He has always played right back and I think that is the strongest part of our team, so I honestly don't know. The bottom line though is if Wilson leaves we need at least 3 top quality signings. If we got Baird as well then fine, I just think the team looks very average/workmanlike, and he isn't the creative type we desperately need. If we don't sign a top quality striker though before the next Euro qualifier I'm giving my season ticket to my nephew, and not spending another bean going forward because it's becoming silly now. Between Ki/Wanyama/Hooper the real quality we had has gone, now our only good Centre half is going-you almost get the impression the people at the top get a sadistic pleasure in making the fans suffer, everything is drawn out and done on the cheapest scale-they really do have some brass neck! NOBODY is asking them to do what the other mob have done and spend what they couldn't afford, we are in a good enough position/the best position(financially) we have ever been in to go and buy a few top drawer players who are a good age(25ish)-experienced and with a re-sale value, who are therefor assets for the club. I'm a shareholder, and I understand business and what i'm proposing is very reasonable/not irresponsible! Cheers, Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on paul, I've not re-newed my season this year, as we keep rying to save a buck, I've spent a fortune over the past 25years buyin season tickets, away tickets, euro tickets, football tops and many other things out the superstore, the amount I have spent in 25years I could of bought celtic a decent player myself, when we sold big vic, I was under the impression with what pete and lenny said that he WOULD be replaced, so far no1, now our top goal scorer is gone, no sign of a replacement and anyone being mentioned there is only one I'd take, the boy from hernevven(spellin) I'm not daft with the money I know we need to safeguard the future of the club but at what expense? Losin fans as they are sick of watchin us struggle against smaller teams, we have no spark upfront, stokes will score us goals but he is no hooper. I'm with paul no decent signings anytime soon and I won't be attending CP can't afford to throw my money away if celtic aren't willing to spend any of theirs!

Agree1 Disagree0

2 excellent posts guys. A fair point well made by each of you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting post he may be worth considering if push comes to shove at the deadline. I must say, however, if Celtic fans can afford a ticket (and sadly many can't) then they ought to buy one.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was 2nd poster forgot to put my name lol well that's us now lost our best defender, has just signed a 3 year deal with forrest. I seriously hope we see some movement very soon.

S

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul and S, my thoughts are very much the same. Not a season ticket holder myself but I do attend match day tickets when and where I can, been to a few European games and also pump too much money into the club store. I'm a small shareholder too. There are thousands of Celtic fans who would happily go without in order to go to a game or wear the new hoops. About time the board showed the same attitude. Yes Scottish football is going down the crapper and financially we need to look after OURSELVES (no-one else is going to do that for us). We were "assured" that any money from sales would be reinvested into the team. £23m+ from CL money on top of our profits anyway should surely see us debt free this time next year, plus the fact we don't budget ourselves on CL. However we're due to rake in a potential near £30m from the packages for Vic, Hoops and Wilson. Obviously we don't receive it all upfront but surely there's more to be spent on players than we're actually doing. When you're told your getting something and you don't get it it's nothing but disappointing, it takes away trust and belief from those that do actually support you in the worst of times. No ambition is the bottom line. Someone somewhere doesn't believe that if we buy a young £5m player, he'll go on to be worth £20m and up. I've mentioned on here a few times the players we've missed out on for the sake of a few hundred thousand. The talent spotting system we have is clearly there, but the b******* just aren't anymore.

Hearing celtic are interested in sgning Mexican wonder kid Carlos fierro! He won the World Cup under 17s in 2011 and has scored 26 goals in 37 games for Guadalajara and he just turned 19 like 3 weeks ago (been doing my research lol) would be amazing buy and very great sale on fee if he lives up to his expectations. Believable13 Unbelievable18

I can only wish this is true.! Work permit would be a massive issue anyways.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we planing for this year or 2019?ffs let's get real.if we can sing him whaw, alas, if he is that good, he is at barca, madrid, why can't we be in the reeeeelllll wwwwooooorld.al geri.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not if they argue properly that he's an exceptional talent and will enhance league. Not long since done exactly that to get big vic in.

Still expect to see Doyle AS WELL as another striker come in. We are not going to be prolific in Europe away from home so Doyle fits in hold up play etc, is rather we didn't have him but the thinking behind it makes sense.

Our team has lost so much over the last 12 months player wise that Lennon could decide to go many different ways regarding the reshaping of the team from back to front.

Couple this with no guaranteed champs league, I think this explains some dallying since hooper left. He does not want burned Juarez style again and who cold blame him.

Del piero last summer, James, Bullard and Campbell in his first summer were all known targets, so he is open to changes of mind evidently.

He's making sure we choose the correct options and I will back him to be pretty shrewd. Has has a few windows now to learn from and will stand him in good stead.

Agree1 Disagree0

Aye am going to have to agree with al Geri for once. We lost the spine of our team now and we need like for like replacements at this point not wee boys that won't be ready to play for the first team for a few seasons.
