First post, not really about transfers but was at the Spartak Moscow game on wednesday and heard a song i've never heard before. It was played before kick off and at half time, the only lyrics i remember are ''We'll rise and sing'' and/or ''We'll sing a song'' and no it wasn't The Soldiers Song- would really appreciate it if someone could help me

Believable9 Unbelievable7

I know the song you mean, they play it all the time now...sing it loud, sing it proud

I don't know what its called but its like some freedom anthem

Predictions and team for tomorrow ?

I'm confident the past 'distracted' games are behind us and as Sammy has said, full concentration on the SPL now.

Mrs E

Believable2 Unbelievable5

Absolutely.
No immediate CL game to think about.
Not even an opponent selected yet.
( note opponent not enemy!)

Gary Hooper's representatives in Glasgow over the weekend to hopefully negotiate a new contract for our main striker. Lets keep our fingers crossed. Then all we need to do is get Victor to sign on and we will be on course for the quarter finals. Ian L

Believable11 Unbelievable13

I had kind of made my piece with Hooper leaving, but of course i would rather he stayed.

Big Vic is far more important though, and at the start of next season he will have 2 years left. We don't want him going into his last year without a new deal being sorted. If he isn't going to sign then we should sell him to the highest bidder in the summer but again i loath to lose a player who i rate as the best young talent i have personally seen in a Celtic jersey in my 32 years.

Ideal situation is they both sign and we get to enjoy another couple of years of them at the Celts. Fingers crossed

Wanyama best central midfielder we've had since Stan Petrov. He can go straight to the top he's that good. Ian L

I see there is talk of bringing in some players in January. As much as I would like new signings, January is not the time to sign anyone as the prices are usually higher and the better players are usually not for sale.
Also we will have Wanyama, Forrest and Stokes available and hopefully a
fitter Brown. What we should be doing is trying to tie Hooper and Wanyama on longer contracts, even with a sell on clause.
Lennon should wait until the summer and with an increased transfer budget
after our debts are paid, go after 2 big signings. Timalloy

If Hooper was to go, I'd like to see a re-investment in that laddie Emeneke of Spartak. He looks a handful. Would he be allowed to play in the last 16 for another club or does he have to wait until the semis or something?

Believable4 Unbelievable14

Think Spartak paid 8million for him , he would be out of our price range......DH

Agree1 Disagree0

Was sure I heard on the radio commentary he has a ridiculous buy-out clause of $40M - (yes dollars)........kbt198

Agree0 Disagree0

I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole. He was involved with a matchfixing scandal and along with 13 others, he was charged over it. If he returns to Turkey and is found guilty in court there he would go to jail. He also threatened to sue a Turkish newspaper who claime he was 7 years older than stated in his passport.

Even if we could afford him and even if he was innocent we just don't need that kind of nonsense at Parkhead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree. Just being linked with match fixing should mean a massive red light!

Italian press reporting celtic interested in signing iaquinta for CL push although lenny has played this down.

Celticthomas

Believable2 Unbelievable7

S*y Calcio is reporting he is coming to Lennoxtown for trial ........DH

Agree0 Disagree1

Don't want him...yeah he's ok, but come on let's raise the bar a bit, he's nowhere near the same player he was a few years ago the first time we were linked with him. Johnny russell would be money better spent.

Hi my fellow tims I have been reading as I do on this page every day and there's too much talk of selling Wanyama and hooper today, if any of these go ,it will be at ther own asking and in my views they have a right to go and personally I don't want no one at Celtic that don't want to be ,but I will say this it will have too be one greedy bas,ard and some one that has no love of the game after this season every player from the Lenny lions has at least doubled ther value ,I hope none of them want to go wanyamer to sighn a pre contract to go to untd I would understand at the end of the season but to go in jan would be a sin. ,jodrok

I recall one journo on sly saying we might as well not turn up.

They'll never learn, done it with Blackburn, Liverpool, then again with Man utd in 06' the only say what the English audience want to hear

Never mind what the english said regarding our champions league chances

London Calling
-----------------------------------
London calling , to the faraway clubs ,
The group stages over , Chelsea got gubbed ,
London calling to the football world ,
Come out of the cupboard , you Bhoys n Ghirls ,

London calling , and now look at us ,
That "Slow lingering death" has bitten the dust ,
London calling , we're now in the swing ,
Unlike that mob and their Zombie team ,

Chorus
Utopia is coming , the final zooming in ,
English pundit's stop bumming , their teams growing thin ,
Their team tipping errors , but we have no fear ,
London is calling us , down by the river ,

London calling , us to the cup final zone ,
Forget it Souness , we can go it alone ,
No London calling , Sevco's Zombies of death ,
Quit f*ckin moaning , try and draw your first breath ,

London calling , we don't want to shout ,
But while we were winning , we saw yous sneaking out ,
London calling , we'll have the highs ,
While yous are the ones with the watery eyes ,

Chorus

London calling , we'll be there too ,
You heard what they said , none of it came true ,
London calling , at the top of the dial ,
After all this , we'll give the Sevvies a smile :-) .
London calling ,

We've never felt as much alive .

So who do we want in the last 16?

I would be happy with Man U they are not the team they have been and are letting in goals. I would put our current crop of stars up against them right now and I could see us get the win.

What does everyone else think?

Ian

Believable8 Unbelievable10

I would fancy us against man utd aswell Ian. as long as they don't spend in jan i think they are there for the taking. If they had been in a harder group they would have struggled, they were lucky to be in such an easy group. I'v a feeling they are going to sign fellaini though i think he is exactly who they need

Celticthomas

Agree0 Disagree0

Would reallu prefer Malaga. Think we have a shout against them big time.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nah I would disagree, Rooney VanPersie Hernadez, that is a forward line any team should fear. I think they're too strong for us. I still think we would have a good go and could possibly get a result, after all we did get three points off Barca but I'd rather not get United.

Also we always seem to get united in the Champion League one way or another, Id rather just stay clear of them and play someone we rarely get the chance to play.

Quack.

Agree0 Disagree0

From the paper today

PSG - chances - mega rich club want trophies

Schalke - unbeaten in group big threat

Malaga - lack experience

Dortmund - dark horse

Juventus - just sneaked into last 16 so must improve

B Munich - runners up last year

Man utd - very good

That's from the DR.only two teams I know a little about are man utd and Schalke man utd just now are piss poor and letting goals willy nilly however have big fire power up top * Schalke big mates daft for them don't know what there form is but will find out personally as he's a season ticket holder for them

* ed has De gea improved from last season ? Head to head him or FF?

Off topic in Germany Schalke fans pay 550 for their season ticket and that inc transport and I think a free beer for each game lol

Lenny {Ed007's Note - Don't underestimate Dortmund Lenny, I have seen quite a bit of them over the last couple of years. They have some fantastic players and have that well drilled German organisation they are famous for. De Gea has improved but is still a bit lightweight and prone to make the odd mistake although he is a great shot-stopper, but right now I would take Forster any day over him.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not ed that's just from the daily rag my mate follows German football (Schalke fan) he told me about BD.new manager new ideas finishing 17th then 18th but the last year or two winning the league purely on a youth set up.i really really wish we could do this rather than buy players at 2m just pump it into a whole youth system would be bad short term properly not winning the league but worth it long term I know we have a set up like this but just Scottish youth though

I think before I knew who was in the last 16 I did fancy a all German final or even a German team and Malaga ?

Lenny

Agree0 Disagree0

Malaga should be avoided, they have stood out in the group stages. Trips to spain in general are not good for the club. German teams have been best this year, especially dortmund, they are a class act. Avoid like the plague!

I've let it sink in before posting - and even now - what an incredible achievement by everyone involved at Celtic! To get 10 points in that group was just incredible - a new Scottish record. Last 16? = Dreamland.
I thought the BIG Euro nights were a thing of the past, or for the FUTURE - especially after sitting through the Sion game last year. I thought it would be another 2 seasons before this young team would be ready - but what do I know!
I've read some posts about possible opponents in the knockout stages. Man Utd has been mentioned, but that might turn into your usual British cup-tie/battle. I feel we are setup as a more European-style counter-attacking team, and that tie might not play to our strengths. I fancy Schalke as our best bet for progressing. We might be this seasons dark-horses!
I have to admit that I was never Neil Lennons' biggest fan as a player, and as a manager I have questioned his judgement/decisions on occasions - but he always seems to learn or take something from negative results or performances. He certainly learned from the dismal Sion performances and utilised that experience in the Europa league last season.
This season - in the Champions League - he has not put a foot wrong. The team is prepared meticulously for each game. Job well done Bhoys.
In Lennon We Trust!.............kbt1978
