Ed i have said it past two summers we need a keeper, big fraser did well but a 4 year keeper is required i think, a strong center half and same up front also required, if he was staying he'd be on books by now i think too, options open for why? 3 or 4 years with us top move after that i'd bet too, similer to Rhodes i feel would also benefit from regular football,add to their CV. just ma hopeless thoughts ed, still spot on site very good, see few bhoys left already so freeing up some cash - all good, lets hope we get in the buys we need to push on , its a must. any thoughts on who?

Davybhoy ktf. {Ed007's Note - I have said before Davy, I think it is ridiculous that a club the size of CFC haven't had a recognised No.1 GK for two seasons. A teams's defensive unit need to have some form of understanding with the GK, chopping and changing all the time is not a good thing.}

Ed I see that Clarke has left the pool.. Could it be happening him coming to paradise? Trickycelt! {Ed007's Note - I don't know mate.}

Believable11 Unbelievable7

Would be a masterstroke by the board if we were to land him, he has a world class reputation and bags of experience which would compliment and develop our managerial team
DG81

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with DG81, I think Clarke would be a fantastic addition to the coaching team. Lenny seems to like to work with people whom he knows & trusts though, does anyone know if he has worked with Clarke before?

Agree0 Disagree0

Stevie Clarke looks as if he's going to West Brom as Manager to replace Roy Hodgson

Agree0 Disagree0

Dream on he's next manager of west brom, when are deluded old firm fans going realise the days of attracting people like Steve Clarke are over, the SPL is A washed up league that's going get 100 tines worse, most teams will be part time in 5 years.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rangers fan is obviously bored on his own page and wants to have a dig on here. Our league will struggle at first but will go on to prosper without your cheating, tax dodging sectarian mob of ar*eholes. Tick Tock

Agree0 Disagree0

Prosper again? It was dying before rangers got caught, it was bad enough when 2 teams could win it and its only going get worse, tell me why your deluded mind feels it will prosper?

Ed don't know what the fee would be or how much his wages are but I would love to see Scott Dann in the hoops think he would sort out our defence {Ed007's Note - Scott Dann has a £6 million release clause in his contract which I would expect a few teams will trigger, I can't see us being one of them. He is a good player though and would be a great signing}

Believable4 Unbelievable3

We will never pay 6m + for a player those days are long gone

i see celtic being linked with loan deals.me personaly they should be scraped.just look at foster played two seasons on loan and thinks he is now a superstar,loan deals are not right in my eyes what do use think

Believable12 Unbelievable12

Forster should have been tied up in January. Celtic had the option. {Ed007's Note - Forster could have been signed at any time during the season. If the option of a permanent move is in the loan contract and the player is registered with only one club, the player can be signed at any time, just like Hooiveld moving to Southampton in December.}

Agree0 Disagree0

WE PLAY spl = Loan deals are only way to get top class up and coming players from EPL. interesting use of the word use.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think loans are good for the league. look at kilmarnock signing eremenko a while back and Dean Shiels last season for example, they add a wee bit to it. Understand the OP's argument but i am for loans im afraid. Big forster has been a great loan signing when you think about it, whether he signs or not i dont really care. We can just get someone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with first post, hate loan deals we should be bigger than that.

Awryt ed a seen that Marc janko has failed to settle at Porto and would be available for around 3m what's your thoughts on him for the target man we'r badly needing also seen we'r looking at that rodellga and best hope we don't sign they two because they're no better than what we have already {Ed007's Note - I like Janko but wouldn't be happy to pay £3 million for him and I am not sure about Rodallega's consistency, although with no fee needing paid he could be a good addition to the squad when you see the players that are leaving or we think should be leaving. I do not want Best anywhere near CFC.}

Believable9 Unbelievable3

Janko and rodallega are both better than samaras who is our supposed target man. And i think personally they are as good as any of the others we have aswell. We would be lucky to have either. I would rather have Rhodes than any of them to be honest.Would love to see him in the hoops.

Agree0 Disagree0

Samaras is our left winger.

In Europe against teams bigger than us I would prefer Sammy up front on his own to Janko or Rodallega as not only is he powerful and skilfull enough to hold up the ball he is quick enough to stop defences pushing up and squeezing the play into our half.

Janko would be a fantastic player though and if it were possible I would love him at Celtic

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry ED, but we dont need more squad players, we need players who will walk in to the 1st eleven.Take it you dont rate Rodallega? {Ed007's Note - With the volume of players that are leaving we need a strong first team squad, you don't only play the same eleven players every match. Did I say I didn't rate Rodallega? At least read what I have said, it is his consistency I questioned, not his ability.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Rodallega would do the job for us. - Quack

Hows things ED? I just read an earlier post about "HEED" (Caldwell). I pray we dont take him as he is murder. Continually gets too tight to players and is SLOW into the bargain.

Stuartybhoy {Ed007's Note - I'm not bad thanks mate. I agree with you, Caldwell is not anywhere need good enough for what we need in defence.}

Believable7 Unbelievable3

OK I know he had some howlers at Parkhead. I think he is a good player but lacked the concentration needed at his level. I would assume that playing in the EPL for two years (and doing pretty well there ) might have helped him with that. Gnerally its just cutting out the silly mistakes that stopped him from being a very good player. If he comes back it might work out. Look at Mulgrew, no one thought he was near Celtic class

ED007, according to Evening Times Lennon is preparing to splash the cash he received for Juarez, do you know how much we got? I see also that Murphy went for a nominal fee..
Add those two players wages to Big Dan's, Cervi, O'Dea, Cha, Loovens,
M Wilson that must be over £100k a week saved in wages, even if we
bring in 3 players on say £25K a week our wage bill will still be less than last season...
We all know that the 3 players most talked about Forster(£2M) Rhodes(£4m+) and Henricksen (£2m) will cost us at least £8m, do you think Lawwell will give Neil that much without him having to offload KI or Hooper? HH Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I am trying to find out how much we received for Juarez, I expected any fee to cover his pay off from CFC and that would have been it, if the club has received any significant payment then I think they have done a great job there TBH. I doubt the board would shell out £8 million without looking to recoup or fund some money through outgoing transfer(s).}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Personally I think if we're serious about Rhodes and Henriksen then PL should put a bid in for both regardless of wether we sell anyone. I understand as you recently stated Ed, every transfer is a gamble but both players have immense potential and could make us a very tidy profit 3/4 years down the line regardless of where the money comes from to fund the moves. In saying that, if we're successful in signing Henriksen then Ki would surely be moved on anyway as he would then be behind broonie, Ledley, Kayal, Wanyama and Henriksen In the battle for 2/3 midfield slots.

MikeyBhoy {Ed007's Note - I would be delighted if Henriksen and Rhodes were brought in Mikey. As far as I can see CFC received US$2.5 million for Juarez, that is about £1.6 million(??), which I think is a fantastic piece of business by the club.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Really? That's about £1.6m more than I thought we'd get for him! Was thinking at best we'd strike a deal with Santos Laguna for free plus percentage of next deal. Peter Lawwel does drive a hard bargain eh.

Mikey Bhoy {Ed007's Note - I said yesterday and today that I though it would be a 'nominal fee', enough money for CFC to pay him off and that would have been it.}

I see Leon Best is being linked with a move to Celtic in the papers this morning. Do you rate him Ed? It's always nice to have Irish players in the squad, but is he what we need? Opinions? {Ed007's Note - I don't rate him at all.}

Believable4 Unbelievable8

He said no once......should never be asked again

Morning fellow tims, rumours circling this morning rangers have lost the big tax case and will have to pay hmrc 93 million pounds! Where does that leave rangers and more importantly Scottish football? Can't wait to get back to talking about football and this nonsense is finished! Take ur punishment on the chin and get on with it rangers! Ur dragging everyone else down with u's! Still not seen any remorse from anyone connected with rangers!
Any transfer rumours guys? I thought either Russell or mackay Steven would be a dead cert! Russells hold up play at parkhead earlier on in the season was tremendous! He can also play wide left and in the hole just off the striker. Mackay Steven with lennons guidance could also turn into a top player! Look how well James Forrest has prospered under Lennon. These r players who can change games, without breaking the bank, who also have good sell on values.

Byars38625

Believable14 Unbelievable7

I think these players are slightly past the point of being labelled players with potential. Russell would only be a pool player, Stokes is far better IMO. mackay-Stevens may have the appetite for the step up as he has been down in the lower league recently, I would sign him in a minute but again would prob only end up a pool player.
The thing is with guys like these is you can never be sure how much improvement is left in them, showing up well for the Arabs but it's not been done consistently by them, in terms of 2/3 years in a row. Of any Dundee united player id have Dixon probably,lots o spl games,good engine and decent delivery. And,music to the boards ears,free. We need an alright standard left back as cover for Emilio as ledley needs to be centre mid n Charlie at ch.

That's 3 of the mentioned 6 our, who do we think is next Ed? Looks like more than six to me and I'm not counting cervi or o'dea either!

Jamie Mac {Ed007's Note - I said I expected more that 6 to be leaving even going by the players out of contract. Cervi, Dan, Cha, M.Wilson, Loovens, O'Dea, Rasmussen, Juarez, Murphy, J.Thompson, McGinn and McCourt are all notable players I expected to leave this summer (apart from Cervi). There is 12 players that could leave/have left without having any detrimental impact on the first team squad. I still think that Commons could be on his way back to England if a suitable bid comes in.}

Cheers Ed, think were right for sure. Hope the recovery is going to plan mate

sitting at work last night got to thinking about the old argument. who was the greatest ever celt.. yes i know jinky won it , he was an amazing player and i loved watching him as i did the rest of the lions especially my personal favourite bobby lennox , he was different class . it was said that bobby could beat a greyhound over ten yards, and don't forget his scoring record 3rd best ever. then of course we had henrik his record speaks for itself . then i looked up jimmy mcgrory . when you look at what that wee man done you have got to think the only reason he did'nt win the vote was because we never saw him. yes there are a few minutes of grainy film but obviously not enough to appreciate him... 408 league apps 408 goals...70 s/cup 77 goals... 35 gl/cup . 33 goals ,, 21 glasgow charity cup .. 21 goals... total 534 .. 538 goals .. it must have been an absolute pleasure to watch him , how much would he sell for today ? . in 7 of his 14 seasons with celtic he scored more than 40 goals , those incredible figures were. 41, 42,47,49,51,59,62 .. and for all this he was rewarded with ''SEVEN'' scotland caps . and in those 7 games he scored 6 . he also played 6 time for the scottish league and yes another 6 goals.. that is an absolutely astonishing average of 39 goals a season for 14 seasons . . the lions, jinky , henrik, i'm not so sure now !! can i change my vote..bb

Believable8 Unbelievable3

I met Bobby Lennox in a chinese takeaway in saltcoats a few months back. Really nice man and a goalscoring legend at celtic. I was quite starstruck and a bit nervous to say hello but glad i did.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes mcgrory to score all those goals with a ball we probably couldnt kick a few yards and of course manager of the team that beat rangers 7-1.

Agree0 Disagree0

That stat about the 6 caps and 6 goals says it all really, coupled with the measly total of 117 caps the lisbon lions shared. Maybe with the scandals coming to light over the last decade farry to dallas, dougie gate and so on we can look forward to a fairer future regarding footballing decisions and things like the players getting the international recognition they deserve. The SFA and referee's are afterall being watched more closely as of late. I wont be holding my breath mind you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ma faither used to blether aw night after a few haufs about Jimmy McGrory, Patsy Gallagher And Charlie Tully and sadly we cannot see them on video archive like themany more recent great players we have been fortunate to see in action.
I was looking through a 'Celtic Greats' book recently - well that's what you do 'close season' - and I read a chapter on Jimmy Quinn who played 1901-1915 and scored 216 in 331 games and funnily enough, he only got 11 caps. There was also a lot of friction and controversy with the SFA and referees (believe it or not).
Obviously we have been blessed with many superb/world class players and that's why we love The Celtic so much.
Hope NL uncovers another couple for next season?

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

What a beautiful post! My great grandfather ( James o'hare ) always told me jimmy mcgrorry could header a ball further than he could kick it! I'll be telling my son the same thing! That's what sets us apart from everyone else! If you know your history......

Ed88

Agree0 Disagree0

Jimmy mcgrory is the only player is world football history to have finished his career with an average of more than one goal per game !

I think he gets the point of what he has done and is taking his punishment well.

Looks like the Gary Caldwell rumours are doing the rounds again!. It's being reported in Wigan that Caldwell and Wigans manager Roberto Martinez are set for talks this week. Martinez hopes of keeping the strong centre back look to be lost as Caldwell is ready to hand in a transfer request. It's been no secret that caldwells family are homesick and desperate to move back to Glasgow with Celtic his preferred choice.
A swap deal with greek Back up striker GEORGIOS SAMARASS, looks like the best option for both clubs. Samaras hasn’t always been a favourite with the Parkhead fans and at various times in his four years at the club he looked destined for the exit door.
Wigans assistant manager Graeme jones said that SAMARASS is a leader and he is exactly the right character we need at the club," the "He is a commanding striker who will lead by example on and off the pitch.

Mr Green Fingers

Believable4 Unbelievable16

Quick Question: are you Gary Caldwell's agent or something? ;-)

I would let Samaras go though as part of a deal for any player that could improve our team...GC I am afraid I do not consider in that category.

Iain
Iain

Agree0 Disagree0

THIS WOULD BE THE WORST! Caldwell will score more goals against us then Samarass did...We could keep Sammy or sell him after euros but we need to get money and not Caldwell, never again! ed please tell me this wont happen and they are not thinking about it?

MGF. You are determined to to lose our best players. First it was Caldwell for Mulgrew and now its Sammy. I an smell a current bun in our midst.

Joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Caldwell is equally as frustrating as Samaras in my opinion. Can be a quality, very important player but is prone to a shocker or two. Would he get in a Celtic team? Maybe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yet again a pretender posting a load of C**P. Caldwell wont be back near Paradise except to watch the Bhoys!

HH
pfb79

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets hope not he was a strikers dream he couldn't fill the centre of a donut never mind a defence. He got turned all the time. Have his all but would like a better standard of player coming to celtic

Campsie Tim

Agree0 Disagree0

Can only hope this is indeed just a rumour. Cladwell can stay where he is or go anywhere he likes bar us, have never rated the guy. Swap for Samaras...having a laugh.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have people forgot the reason he left, he was offered a new deal which he turned down because the scottish beckenbauer thought he was worth more than that. As iv said before, i would dread seeing this guy in a celtic shirt again, one half of the chuckle brothers is to much, next wel be hearing mic is returning, whos found his standard at bristol... yes bristol

Agree0 Disagree0

Celtic won't get rid of sammy as he is an important player for our European adventure plus he played brilliant last 6months of the season & can't keep him out of the team and we got rid of Caldwell because he was rubbish why are we going to bring him back in exchange for one of our best players? Doesn't make sense.
Conor67

Agree0 Disagree0

Caldwell may be good enough for the SPL, but he found out in Europe against quality teams, turned over time and time again, positioning awfull.
Celtic as a club need to move forward in Europe and buy european quality players, that can play at the levl required for Celtic to consistantly play in the CL, the board need to realise that they have to spend good money and good wages on a core 14 top players and 6 or so upcomming youngsters, yes at the moment we may have to sell to buy, but its an investment for the future, the squad is too big, needs trimmed, will save wages, this should be reinvested in 3 or 4 quality players and maybe a few hot prospects that can be sold on in future for big profit
i would not replace Thompson with another coach, but use the wages to invest in playing staff, unless of course Henrik or Lubo were available,

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear Wigan,
IF you KEEP Caldwell WE WILL GIVE YOU Samaras........lol

JohnnyBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

This post is another nonsense, this clearly is never happening. Caldwell will never get the chance to play for celtic again.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you remember Gary Caldwell left Celtic because we give in to his outrageous wage demands , despite the fact that he sold the jerseys in countless big and important games , he's found his level .... P!sh for Wigan , let him stay there , not the player we need .

Yeah Ed Rodalfo Borell is the Reserve Team manager and Pep Segura is some sort of director, who basically scouts talent and helps run the show. Brought in by Rafa and they've transformed it mate, we have so many potentially brilliant players, ask Ed001 if you get the time. They've implemented the Barca 4-3-3 as well, and we play possesion football, which should go well with Rodgers sharing the same beliefs. Sterling is the big hope though, unreal talent, he will be a star. Then there is Coady, Suso, Morgan, Mclaughlin, Wisdom, Robinson, Nacho, Texeira, Ibe, etc, exciting times ahead hopefully, they obviously won't all make it, but I think a fair few will. I hear Celtic are doing well, is that true? Saw the young lad Watt get two goals earlier in the season, is he a big hope?
JFT96
Smithy {Ed007's Note - It is Ed001 I talk to about it as we sit like boring nerds watching any football we can find lol. I remember a young player coming on during an LFC youth game, I think Ed001 said he was only 15/16, he looked a complete monster of a boy!! CFC have some great young players, Watt could be one of them. There is also Dylan McGeouch, the Twardzik twins, Atajic and Marcus Fraser and a few others. Like any club they might not all make it at CFC but good enough to make a good healthy living from football.}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

Hi Ed, yeah Villa have a very good set of youngsters, watch out for a lad called Carruthers(sp) at Villa, he will be a big player IMO. Plays on the wing predominantly, got everything you need to make it. They had such a small squad last year that they were calling youngsters into the First team left,right and centre and it did them the world of good. We still beat them 3-0 at there place though. Sporting last year were something special, how they didn't win the whole thing I will never no, they play the 'Barca style' and are all so technically good, you will see next year. We snapped one of their youngsters up which is great. I don't know much on PSV but all the Dutch teams have great youth teams really, its the way they operate. I really enjoy watching the youngsters, its always great to see who is coming through the clubs academy
JFT96
Smithy {Ed007's Note - Don't LFC have a few of Barca's ex-coaches running the youth set up? I have watched a few of their youth games on LFCTV, there is some quality in there.}
