I was just wondering does anyone know if we got to the last 16 would that be much better financially for us then saying getting to quarter finals of Europa league, which i think would be an extra 6 games. I'd love last 16 but I really think we could give the Europa league a really good shot and go far

Believable3 Unbelievable7

The players have to play to win every match which means the last 16 for me. Would just love to see Neil Lennon qualify after all he's had to put up with. Mrs E

Agree0 Disagree0

Calm down Archie. We would Defo get more money in last 16 of champions league

Agree0 Disagree0

Atletico who won the europa league last year made just over 7 million, we will have already surpassed that just by being in the group stages of the CL.

btw, i'm not sure if this has been mentioned on here or not, but Celtic can also lay claim to have the uefa/europa cup all time top goal scorer in a certain Mr Henrik Larsson:)

Calm down?? Do you not think we're capable of reaching quarters at least. I honestly think given a good draw we could go far , very far

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets not get carried away here. It's only 1 game. Lets see were we are after the double header. Ian L

Bugger it, how much will we get for winning the champions league. we can beat anyone on our day. Hail hail

Agree0 Disagree0

Check out our European Cup win and the teams we knocked out on the way and the 1970 run to the final. Its impressive, can we do it again? I doubt it, can we come second in the group. I think so. If we win the group then we can get a little bit excited then indeed anything would be possible...Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Any supporter would want to go as far in champions league as possible if we drop into europa cup then thats good enough... but the day when fans start making decisions based on money football is finished as a sport ... fuzzy

What are peoples thoughts on Celtic raising the issue of entering a second team in the SFL similar to the Spannish set-up? The 2nd team cannot get promoted past a certain stage. Would allow us to give our young players first team football aswell as training them the way we want, think players like chalmers, fraser and irvine, good players not quite ready for the first team while keeping them eligible for the NextGen series.

No way for me, it would take up a place in a league that another established team should have. If we met sevco the media would tag it as an old firm game when it wouldn't be. If we won the first division league and a team below us got promoted just because we couldn't be promoted then it would devalue their promotion a bit. It's not for me, the players you mention already receive adequate training I'm sure so if they want into the first team they should play their way into it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would the sfl want a "b" team anyway?
if players arent ready to make the grade then loan them out or simply release them

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its a good idea if u limited the amount of foreign players in the squad, thus allowing u to develop scottish talent hopefully producing scottish international players. Also it always sems stupid to me that there are 19 year old players failing to get game time, how are they meant to progress if they dont play. We seem to leave talented players in limbo if they have not fully developed to play first team football by 18, at 19 and 20 its like they go on the scrapheap. How old was paul hartley when he got his breakthrough

Agree0 Disagree0

Big Jock proposed this idea over 40 years ago mate ! He wanted to enter our reserve team in then second division and would not be allowed to be promoted if (or when) they won that league.....no go then and no go now. However if Celtic were to go and play in an Northern Europe league etc then the remnants of Scottish League may allow, but right now, no chance.

We have wait till the bears find out who's really behind Green. And the real reason Desmond went easy on them in his interview.

I think we are now seeing first signs of extra revenue from CL being put
to good use with Forrest, Mathews and Mulgrew all signing 4 year contracts.
All we need now is Victor Wannyama to sign long term contract.
When CL monies come in we will be virtually debt free with a bank balance
in the black.
I hope if not in January, then in the summer we recruit one or two other
gems to add to our squad, which is getting stronger each season. hail hail Timalloy

Did you forget about Gary Hooper?

Agree0 Disagree0

If eevryone stays fit i dont think we will need new players, im waiting to see how the 2 new strikers pan out tho

Hi ed, a have read a few times in different sites that people think hooper has put on a bit of weight, I seem to remember the same thing happening to ginola when he was at villa, and he proved all his critics wrong when he took his top off when he scored! Don't be so cynical to suggest because hooper is bigger it must be fat! He is a professional athlete whose body is constantly monitored by doctors! Lay off the lad!

Hope the club and Gary can agree on an improved contract ASAP. Ian L

once again the msm starting the we need the newco rubbish the attendance thing is just nonsence. included are last years figure which include oldco having average 40000 at home therefore crowd fiqures would be down.

but if you look at individual team gates crowds are up motherwell last week biggest crowd for 6 years it appears only the newco are missing the spl as they can on charge half price for season tickets this year and for the next 2 years.

also the old chestnut about sky pulling the plug when a five deal has been signed not one year like that tube king states more propergander.

newco have no revenue stream outwith tickets as the only £100,000 from the tv funds all lies about adidas coboys etc what ever happened to billionaires and renaming murray park.

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Football attendance figures are up across the whole game in Scotland this season.
SFL is in the Scottish game you know and seeing record attendances and revenue which is the shot in the arm sfl1-3 needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Overall the spl attendance total will be down by 500,000 i guarantee it. Do rangers not get any money from tennents then? Or progressing in the cup?

Agree0 Disagree0

That 500k may be true but its all rangers and all the money would go to them anyway. Not missing them.

Today would have been the great Jock Stein's 90th birthday. He stands as a giant in Scottish football history and, together with his Lisbon Lions and the stars of the Seventies, is responsible for some of the club's greatest achievements. He will never be forgotten.

Believable18 Unbelievable6

Scotland's greatest ever manager. As proclaimed by Fergie and the rest. And all the other pretenders to the throne. The big man was a hero and will never be forgotten.

Big Jock was on the job as Scotland Manager in Wales the night he passed on. God Bless, rest in peace big man.

Its the only reason I would EVER wish I was older to have seen Jock Stein's achievements including Lisbon and 9-in-a-row.

Just been looking at our team coefficient total.
Celtic currently have 11 points, this is made up of
1 point each for our 4 qualifying wins, 2 points for win in Russia, 1 point for our draw against Benfica and 4 bonus points so far.
So bhoys/ghirls what about a debate on what is best
now for Celtic coefficient wise.
Do we want Celtic to perhaps reach last 16 then meet a big team and get knocked out, or...
drop down into Europa league where we would be seeded and maybe win some more games thus picking up more coefficient points.
We already have this seasons CL money in the pot, but next season we are unseeded, so we need to get
as many coefficient points to lift us back into the seeded teams for CL games in future years.
Let's hear your thoughts. Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree0

Tough one Tim.Myself personally wants us to go through to last 16 then on to the QF.We almost beat AC Milan a few years ago in last 16 so why not?If Apoel could do it last year then why can't we?I get where you are coming from with the co-efficient but i want to see the top teams beaten at CP.We have a great record against these type of teams and would love to add Chelsea or Real Madrid to the list.
