{Ed007's Note - There is a new poll up:

Who would you rather have seen signing for us, Balde and Pukki or Finnbogason?

Please take two minutes to vote, cheers.}

Couldn't think who to pick as not seen any of them properly . The vote was 20 19 in favour of duo so I sat on fence and voted finbo to even it up but got a big splinter up the archy so I think I'd like 2 get behind the bhoys that wanted 2b here .hail hail 2 the pair of u

Agree0 Disagree0

Would have to be Finnbogason, he wanted to be here but again Scrooge wouldn't pay the going rate, we sold a striker for £5million why did we not sign this one?that does not count all the rest of the money we made

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have loved finbogasson but big balde and pukki gives us more options so had to be my vote

SOS BHOY

Agree0 Disagree0

To be perfectly honest, I had not heard of any of them before the 'window' and was initially a Russell, Austin or Rhodes guy as I wanted a 25/30 goals-a-season striker.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Used to live in germany and all my friends there said that pukki is nothing special. he really isn't a good player but at least he can score goals. to me he's fine for the SPFL but not for CL. the same counts for balde.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hi Ed . Like the polling system you have introduced. I have placed my vote in every poll and look forward to others in the future. jULIEGHIRL

Agree0 Disagree0

I haven't seen any of them play, so can't comment. I wonder how many tims who were demanding we sign finaboggason(sp) actually saw him play on a regular enough basis to be able to judge him as a potential celtic star?

Also have to agree with Tambhoy that we have pukki and balde so let's get behind them

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed 07. You may not remember the 90's pal but I remember finishing second in the Scottish top flight would have been a huge achievement some season, why don't you run this simple poll. Are you happy we have a financially stable club, run by people who have the clubs best interests at heart. A club that are in the Champions League again who signed 5 top prospects whom are all internationals, who all arrive with bigger reputations that players we just sold at great profit!

Hail Hail {Ed007's Note - I remember the 90's very well thanks very much. Why are you having a pop at me though? I only put up a poll that was suggested by another poster. Maybe if you took the time to read things you might not make an anonymous arse of yourself.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol owned by ED. I voted alf as his scoring record is far better than balde and pukki. {Ed007's Note - No wonder, some people are just constantly looking for something to moan about.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to be Alfie Finbogasson. You just have to look at his record in eredivise against more quality opposition because let's be honest, its a way better league than spfl.
Balde is still young, raw, and adapting here whereas pukki was a benchwarmer at shalke behind huntelaar. We, ve basically signed another stokes who will probably score goals in the league this season but judjing by the money we, ve raked in and the fact we sold a 5m striker but can't buy a 5m striker says a lot of the boards attitude towards our reputation.

Wouldive been Finbogasson all day long with maybe another 1m striker bought aswell for decent backup.

You would then have Finbogasson, stokes, samaras and possibly another young lad keeping them on there heals instead of an unproven balde and a so so pukki

A simple phrase comes to mind:

Quality over quantity!

Agree0 Disagree0

Sometimes I really don’t know who’s to actual blame for wiping the eye of the Celtic Faithful or Faithful gullible, should I say, the Celtic board with their tight-fisted enforcer Lawell at the helm or a fast amount of Celtic supporters who (for many years now, have been the unwilling victims of the CFC MK-Ultra brain washing programme) with the amount of lies they are willing to swallow hook line and sinker pumped out by the Celtic PR Department, when it comes to potential signings, all covertly designed to steal your hard earned cash.

The Faithful through and through gang have been suffering from Green and white “Pie-eyeditis” syndrome, which leads to severe side effect called “Lets just settle for what we have” and its infectious and spreading rapidly.

Now let’s balance up this question, first disregard Amido Balde, he’s another Henri Camara mark two and if he was as really as good as Celtic built him up to be, he wouldn’t be playing for us in the first place (no offence my fellow Hoops), he’d applying his trade in pastures far more exotic that Scotland but sure “lets just settle for what we have”

Celtic sell their top striker for five million (a guy who was a goal machine in Scotland and not bad in Europe either) and replaced him with a second rate bench warmer from Schalke 04, who (over a two year period) could barely get a game and when he did managed to wriggle onto the pitch, could hardly find the back of the net, (37 appearances in two years and 8 goals, holyleeeeeeee crap) very astute footballing business on Celtics behave here, cough cough.

The signing of Pukki inspired Lennon so much that he immediately called for the resigning of Stokes (a player, that only weeks early, he was more than willing to pack his bags for him and personal pay the taxi fair to the nearest airport), now all of a sudden he’s going to be Celtics Domestic and European striking gladiator, leading from the front?

Alfred Finnbogason, without question was the man the fans wanted, he would have been the more astute acquisition to replace Hooper but then he cost real money and his signing alone would have bankrupted Celtic a ruined us for years to come

SO, let's JUST SETTLE FOR WHAT WE HAVE

Agree0 Disagree0

The larger post above, WTF? Hope you realise that your capititalised conclusion only deems yourself as being a "gullible", 'brain-washed' individual suffering from "Pie-eyeditis", happy to "JUST SETTLE FOR WHAT WE HAVE".

As it happens I've seen more than enough of Finnbogason and Pukki to cast a judgement. I would have stumped up the cash for Finnbogasson all day long, the board just aren't going to though are they? Still not aware of how concrete our interest in him was, and Pukki is a good signing, but Finnbogason is a better one. He's better than Hooper, and I have no doubt we would make a killer profit on him. Not enough foresight or cojones.

Agree0 Disagree0

JUST let's SETTLE FOR WHAT HAVE you are bang on I've been supporting Celtic since the sixties and have seen so many false dawns as we refuse to pay the going rate for players, yet we want to nick players from elsewhere and flog them on for a fortune.This time we have the cash and still refuse to spend it, if the board believe in Lenny and his scouting system WHY do they keep holding the team back and where does approx £30 million now go.Why are people so brainwashed on here at times that as soon as you dare express that you are unhappy at this situation some dafty makes a remark about "you must be from the dark side "We should be pushing on improving the team instead we enter the CL less well prepared than last year.Maybe we the Celtic support should demand better signings before buying season tickets etc as this is a year on year event big names rumoured but never delivered our loyalty is taken for granted and seldom rewarded.Rant over.

Hi ed do you know if yossi benayoun (please excuse spelling) is available on a free? Do you think he would be worth a look at if he is?

Darren {Ed007's Note - Yes he is free but I'm not sure we need him, plus you're lucky if he's played 40 games in the last 3 seasons.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

If there was anychance benayoun would come to celtic ad b on it in a second, great creative player from midfield eye for a defence splitting pass, prob hasn't played because of the competition where he's been. Wages would b the problem.
Monkeybhoy {Ed007's Note - He hasn't played because he is 33 and injury prone now.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I would go for Milevskiy from Dynamo Kiev - decent scoring record at club level, 50 international caps and more competition. Still only 27 or 28 as well. Thoughts?

CJM88

Agree0 Disagree0

Can we all remember when Lubo came into the club, he was 33 and the press laughed at him saying he was a nobody. Bennayoun is a top player, great vision and if you have players around him who can win him the ball then you have a real gem there. I know he hasn't played a lot of football but get him in, pay per play deal and he will give the team the bit of guile that has been sorely missing.

Looking at the free agents, what about CB Oguchi Onyewu from Sporting Lisbon?

Tall, strong, experienced.

Him and Anderson Polga helped the club to a semi final of the 2011-12 Europa League in his debut season with them.

He's been linked w/ Club Brugge.

Surely worth a punt?!

Believable12 Unbelievable3

Sissoko, hitzlsperger, hunt, baird, boothroyd free agents we should be looking at even for a stop gap

Agree0 Disagree0

Was having a scan of free agents in Europe there and noticed Leverkusen’s Manuel Friedrich(33) on a free. Could be experienced cover and would definitely be able to do a job in the spl. Has a bit of history concerning his desire for a messi shirt after last season. If we guarantee the guy the tap he’ll sign for a pittance wage crackin deal for all concerned … worth a punt!
Might need to check if the wee barra has any restraining orders out though rglen8

Agree0 Disagree0

With the money we had available why are we scraping the barrel again?I don't buy this crap about players not wanting to come to the SPL with CL football its a smokescreen, excuse what ever you want to call it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting call. I feel he would be a great addition as he offers a lot of experience, as well as the height, strength and physicality we need. Like a lot of US players, he is very fit, and a good athlete. Pre-Milan, while he was playing in Belgium, he was top of my 'hit list' of target signings, and I always felt we should have tried to get him on loan while he was at Milan but not playing. Would not be too expensive, and offers cover in a spot where I feel we need it (despite the number of CBs in the squad, we still lack something I feel). I would really like us to pull the trigger on a short term deal, and see how he shapes up. (Was in poor form on arrival in Lisbon I believe). Really good shout. jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree0 Disagree0

Friedrich looks like a good shout indeed. And the good thing is, such a signing would fit nicely with our Board's current signing policy which seems to be "cheap as chips and to hell with the quality."

does anyone know where to get a list of unregistered pro s we could still sign

Just had a look through that list not much quality if I am being honest! One player did stick out Franco Zucullini 22 year old defensive midfielder played for Zaragoza in Spain! There was a big buzz about him when he was younger went to Hoffenheim in Germany then they loaned him to Zaragoza he had a few injury problems! Also see Loovens is free back up maybe!

Agree0 Disagree0

When are the Asian, African, Latin American, Australian and North American end of season windows?
Surely some guys will be out of contract globally at some point?

Agree0 Disagree0

The trick, of course, is to do a sevco and approach guys long before their window opens so that they keep themselves unsigned and wanting to join us.
But isn't our business concluded?

Ivan Obradović 25 year old serbian left back looks worth a punt if he's recovered from his knee injury

Hi ed is Mohammad sissoko a free agent knw after was released by PSG surely worth a punt if this is true {Ed007's Note - Yes he is free but he is looking to move to England.}

Hi Ed,

I saw the rumours on Saturday morning about Shane Long, do you know if there was any concrete contact from our side. He nearly signed for Hull last night. Surely it would be a no brainer for him, Celtic or Hull! He would be a great addition to the team, strong, pacy and a bit of attitude to boot. {Ed007's Note - CFC were never interested in Long during the window that has just closed.}

For ghods sake, I really hope this story in the papers about Anco Jansen coming to us on loan but being scuppered at the last minute for the sake of 60k! That really would be pathetic IMO.
Hail Hail
Chris the Tim 67

Believable7 Unbelievable8

Never heard of him! We've spend over 10million on incoming transfers. Not bad really

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop reading the rags, they are only upsetting you

Well said kevbhoy do many moaners on here I like you think we came out of the window in good shape

Dannybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

We still needed another striker, no question about that. Hence the 3 bids for the Peterborough striker bud. HH
Jimmy the zombie smasher

Agree0 Disagree0

Danni my lass! Do u really think we have enough strikers at the club at the moment?
I think not? HH
Jimmy the zombie smasher

Agree0 Disagree0

We have Samaras, Pukki, Balde, Stokes, Atajic. Boerrigter can also play through the middle. How many did we have last year?
Only one person can score a goal at any one time. Whether we have 1 or 100 strikers. Its the quality that counts. I was a big Hooper fan, but I have a feeling Pukki is going to make us forget about Hoops quite quickly. Him and Commons linking with each other looks good to me.

Joeshmo1888

Agree2 Disagree0

The best signing we could still make is getting Henrik Larsson on the payroll as a first team coach to replace Parker.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Has parker left the club?, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Chris the tim I do not understand how some supporters can be happy with what we have done in this window serious pennypinching again I think.Do some people not wonder what happens to the rest of the money??

Agree0 Disagree1

Joeshmo1888 why do you think this cheapskate partnership looks good.Finnbogason looks good very good we should have had the 1st choice striker in for a change, we have the cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

No name, you obviously have not seen much of Pukki. Can everyone get it into thier heads Finbogson DID NOT WANT TO SIGN FOR CELTIC!!

joeshmo1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Joeshmo? Where's the quotes from Finn saying he didn't want to join Celtic?

From what I can remember Celtic enquired, they were told the price and offered below par, then no follow up - The "we tried, let's move on to the next target" mentality.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought it was common knowledge Scottish football wasnt attractive to him.I don't have any quotes so may be wrong, maybe Ed can help me out. Also I was under the impression that he was valued around 2.5-3m, we bid this, and they pushed the price up to around 5m.
Hes still with Herenveen so no-one else thought he was worth the asking price!

joeshmo1888 {Ed007's Note - I've never seen anything where he said that Joe.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Well i'm happy to apologize if i'm wrong regarding this. I still stand by Pukki being an excellent signing though.
Actually gave me a thought for a poll ed. As the money is about the same. Who would you rather have. Balde and Pukki for 5m or Finnbogason for the same money.

Joeshmo1888 {Ed007's Note - I've set that up now Joe:
