Peter Lawwell is prepared to re-enter negotiations with Heerenveen in January for the transfer of Alfred Finnbogason. A deal for the Icelandic striker fell through in August after the Dutch club doubled their asking price, however, Lawwell has recognised the team needs a replacement for Gary Hooper and is prepared to push the boat out to buy Finnbogason, so Neil Lennon can bed him in before the European qualifiers in July.

Note: It is believed Lawwell would be willing to pay a maximum of £6 million for the striker.

I hope this is true as this lad has great scoring record last I seen it wa 16 goals in 13 games this year and it was something like 38 goals in 45 games last year 6 million is a steal and would go for double in about two year

{Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site James, but for the love of all that is good don't sign for us, pretty please!}

If we got Finnbogason in the Summer, I reckon we'd still be in for a chance of CL last 16 or at least qualifying for EL. But no, PL goes for the cheaper Pukki & let's face it, he's no Hooper at the moment & with only the domestic season to play for maybe he'll get the run of games to proove himself. As for Vaughn? I wouldn't pay £1m never mind the £6m being quoted. Let's get Finnbogason, proven in Europe & with the amount of chances he'd get with Celtic, he'd score for fun.

6 million spend it on Roades rather than another dutch league player remember Samaras had a fantastic record in Holland A British player is a better option

Ed is Alfie no free to sign a pre- contract in January. Chris30

{Ed007's Note - No his contract runs until next summer with another year's option on it.}

Very strong chance that AF would have scored the majority of the sitters we missed against AC and Barca and perhaps made more chances himself. That would have genuinely left us in hot seat for last 16 and the real surprise of Europe with us surviving a group which on paper looks unbeatable. We'd have been the talk of Europe again, recouped our whole outlay in post-xmas TV revenue and had players falling over themselves to sign in Summer. I am furious with the board for not being ambitious-this was not a gamble it was an affordable investment. I'd love to see AF sign but as I said yesterday, I can't see it (really would love to be wrong)

I know we played well and hammered Hearts last weekend, but in the cold light of day - and when that CL tune belts out in the coming months - we are no longer playing any kind of European football and that is the fault of the Board selling big and buying low.
They let the manager and the fans down by not getting the quality players we needed and taking a big risk with mediocre buys.
I sincerely hope they have learned a lesson, but history suggests otherwise?

Im not slating the guy and anyone can have a bad game but I seen him in one game this season which he was very very poor and michael higdon ( ex motherwell) looked doublethe player of this guy and we all know higdons a clown

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry to put a dampner on things, but do u honestly see PL spending that kind of money in january? I don't, he wouldn't spend that knowing we had CL footie in summer. We will end up with another diddy the fans don't want, to think we would spend 6mil on a player these days is nieve, no chance that will happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

Is there not afew players who score for fun in holland then move on and they find goals a lot harder to come by. Samaras, Alves, kuyt .maybe it's an easier league to score in?

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see this happening, but no way will the biscuit tin be opened in January. No European football, no League Cup Final to look forward too. Just a one-horse-race to the SPFL Premiership + the possibility of the Scottish Cup. I'm sure Alfie would be buzzing at the thought of that! This boat sailed on the 2nd September 2013, Liewell + co feckt up by looking at the loss/profit sheet instead of the quality on the team sheet!

Agree0 Disagree0

Would love to see it happening. We were 2 minutes away from no Champions League football this year. The fans deserve better than Pukki & Balde. Hand on heart I can't see it happening though. Note to PL. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I don't think we will make a big signing until next summer. The leagues in the bag and domestically we are scoring goals. The board don't have to do much this Jan window. I think we will see some shuffling. Gunning from Dundee utd and maybe Armstrong a possibility. We will probably lose loan or sell some fringe.

James Vaughan? 6 million? I hope this link is way off as we have been promised that Lennon is looking at bringing in a proved goalscorer. 33 career goals in over 120 games isn't proven to me.

Niall

Believable13 Unbelievable8

Why when Lennon says we can spend 4m on a player does everyone start worrying we will spend 6m on this average joe?

Agree0 Disagree0

Imagine even spending 5 on this person when we could have had Finboggasson for 5.5 - 6 million. This would make the Pukki signing / Finboggasson non signing a hundred times worse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Vaughan is a cracking player but another one who seems very injury prone I think if he was consistently for he would be a feature in the EPL. Think we would get a much better option for £6m but doubt we would spend £6m on 1 player.

Agree0 Disagree1

SOS bhoy. A few newspapers are running the story and as this is a rumours site I thought it should be discussed. I can't honestly see us spending that kind of money but this guy should be quoted in the 600k bracket not 6 million.

Niall

Agree0 Disagree0

I for one hope this goes through. Thonk vaughn has had a stop start to his career but is now looking like the 6 million player he is. Finnbogasson would be my first choice but vaughn is a cracking player who I think would thrive in the clubs atmosphere.
Hew1888

Agree0 Disagree0

The asking price their chairman would quote would be higher than the £6mil the papers are saying anyway, judging by the Jordan Rhodes fee. Plus it seems Vaughan is settled back in his hometown (Liverpool) with his family, so I reckon it'd have to be an utterly mouth-watering contract for him to take a risk of moving to a club where the main benefit would be 6+ champions league matches each season. Other than that, it'd be seen as a side-step.

Agree0 Disagree0

Has he in his career not been past from bigger club downwards till he finds a little club he can b a stand out in. Not for me in million years

Agree0 Disagree0

There are a few reason players are playing in the championship principally because they are not good enough for the EPL, considering that 80% of the teams in the EPL are not CL standard then you would wonder about us approaching a championship striker, especially one that has actually played in the EPL

Alright Ed, We have been linked with a few British strikers, who do you think is our most realistic target? I wouldn't mind James Vaughan but I don't think he is worth the £6 million price tag they are quoting. Antony

Believable1 Unbelievable12

{Ed007's Note - Vaughan isn't worth £600k never mind £6million. He is a very average player at best and personally I would be more than disappointed if we paid anywhere near that for him, in fact I would be more than disappointed if we signed him at all.
But the facts of the matter are that Vaughan has been asked if he would be interested in a move through a second party - he isn't overly keen on Scotland but feels it is a chance to play in the champions league. There is definitely strong interest but I can't comment on the fee apart from my personal opinion, sorry.}

Im with Ed on this vaughan scenario, if he signs its the final straw for me, ., .kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

6 million just simply can't be a serious number when you consider how average Vaughan is. It must be papers taking Tom Kite.

Who do you think is a more realistic striker to sign in Jan with lennon saying he wants a brittish type striker and I don't think Vaughen is worth 6 mil either that why I said I don't think he's worth that. Antony

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note -The problem with buying British players these days is that you need to pay British prices. The transfer fees in England are so inflated these days if CFC were serious about spending that kind of money I would rather go for Jordan Rhodes, it would only be his £40k a week wages that could be problematic.
I wouldn't take much heed of this talk of big moves in January, it is very difficult to complete transfers in January, prices are inflated and it's only other team's squad players that fancy a move, the only positive is that it could be a player looking to boost his World Cup chances and that's not a good enough reason for CFC to just sign anyone IMO.
I am actually worried that if anything we are going to end up with a couple of loan deals again, would anyone be surprised by that? Especially as I have said about the upcoming World Cup, but it will be just more money down the drain with no long-term gain for the club.
As everyone knows I am not a fan of loan deals, I feel we are too big a club for that, remember Miku and Lassad?}

Ed, spot on about loans in Jan, we are out of Europe so unless it is try before ye buy then, agreed fee etc. I don't think we are too big for loanee's but do think we should only take young hungry ones!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I don't mind taking young players on loan/trial to see how they train, their attitude to the game, fellow players and life in general so I have mellowed a bit to it. I even seen the Keane and Bellamy loans as nothing was ever going to come to us full-time. Keane hated his time up here in Scotland (not playing for CFC, just in general) and the conditions around the Scottish game. Bellamy's wages percentage that went to his charity foundation made sure we could never afford to pay him enough to cover that AND pay him the kind of money he expected at the time. It was two pointless loans that cost the club millions with nothing to show for the club's massive outlay. Money that should have been invested elsewhere with a better long-term outlook.}

Saying James Vaughan is average just shows how ill-informed you are with the leagues outside the EPL. He's playing in a league superior to the SPL right now and tearing defenses apart so I'd read up on it more before questioning your manager's targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Vaughan is average. We need a goalscorer and although he's chipping in with a few, not enough to convince me he will score 30 a season and justify that 6 million price tag. He's a player who's having a good spell and his confidence is high. It won't last. He's 25! Where's he been up till now? Hasn't done it at Everton, Derby, Leicester, Crystal Palace or Norwich but now he's started scoring a goal every other game at Huddersfield he's a superstars worth 6 million? Pay no notice to the Huddersfield fan @5) the guys average.
