Hi Ed
Anything in the story of Hibs accepting £2.4m + Hayes on loan for McGinn?
Yes I did read it on Twitter but don't know if anything has happened on the deal lately.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed007's Note - Hibs do want Hayes on loan and, as I explained the other week, for Celtic to come to an agreement to terminate Scott Allan's contract so that he is free to join them.}

Cheers Ed.

{Ed007's Note - No probs mate.}

What's everyone's thoughts on this? Personally I don't think it's a great deal for us, paying up Allan's contract and loaning them Hayes who at the moment is our most likely back up LB plus the fee is a big outlay for a player we can sign on a pre contract in January.

Amazes me how many fans are concerned about the clubs finances these days. Leave that to DD and Pistol Pete.

Two players who aren’t good enough leaving and one with huge potential coming in. that's all that matters to me.

We could probably take a leaf out of hibs book when teams come knocking for our talent. They see to be driving a hard bargain by all accounts.

I think Hayes deserves a chance in the side for the record. I'd be minded to see if Allan could step up too, but I think that ship has probably sailed.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - You don't think getting £7 million for Armstrong, a player going into the last year of his contract and desperate to leave, was driving a hard bargain? I think that was fantastic work by Lawwell. Armstrong could have sat on his arse for a year and sign a pre-contract with Southampton in January just like Allan could do to sign for Hibs.
Hibs (and Celtic) know that they can't afford that situation to arise with McGinn, it's lunacy to allow your most valuable asset to leave on a free (who said Larsson at the back there?) just to save face, I expect a deal for McGinn to be finalised once Hibs European fate is decided.}

30 Jul 2018 22:56:59
But is this what Allan wants?, surely he would be better financially staying with his Celtic contract, I still think in certain types of games against certain types of opponents, where a bit of craft and guile is needed, Allan would be what Celtic need.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Allan wants to move back to Hibs, he's told both Hibs and Celtic that. He might be better off financially staying at Celtic but it isn't going to do his career much good, he's 27 later this year and has made a paltry 156 career appearances.}

30 Jul 2018 23:04:16
That seems a lot for McGinn one player on Loan one players contract paid up and 2.4m I think that there is a player in Scott Allan given the chance.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Well we could pay Hibs £3.2 million and then sell them Scott Allan for £800k, would that maje you feel better?
Just to be abundantly clearvhere, when we don't spend money the fans moan, when we're haggling over fees the same fans moan and when a player is maybe costing £2.4 million and a loan player the same fans moan... Anyone else see a pattern here?
Boeriggter, Pukki, Amido Balde, Marvin Compper and Kouassi but McGinns too expensive, give your head a wobble, Rich, you're stumbling into panty-wetter territory here. McGinn is the best player in Scotland not on Celtic's books, people moan about us not selling for EPL prices while moaning about giving Hibs circa a third of the Armstrong fee - even our captain is publicly talking up McGinn, I think the word was 'fantastic'.}

31 Jul 2018 00:12:38
if Allan wants that, then that is the best solution for all parties.

You need to go all the way back to Hayes signing to realise how poor we failed there.

We gave Aberdeen money plus Mackay-Steven who although not good enough is probably more suited to us than Hayes.

So that was a poor deal, doomed to fail and a waste of money.

McGinn like him or not, the club want him and I assume Rodgers does. If that's the case and they don't get him then it's a bit of a joke tbh.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I never understood the Hayes signing but I think the jersey was weighing down GMS. I think Brendan just remembered the nice wee Irish lad from their time at Reading and thought he could add something (aggression/physicality?) in the wide areas. He's 31 now and would be better moving on to somewhere he will regularly play, the injury cut short his Celtic career before he had a chance to prove people -me included - wrong.}

Could mcginn not cover left back if needed.

Aye, Ed, they definitely held the line with Armstrong. I wouldn't have expected that it he has went last year, and wit the player so obviously keen to move on it was a fine bit of business.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I was expecting £3 -3.5 million and I'd have been happy with that but to get £7 million was fantastic imo, I give Pedro plenty of stick but when it comes to transfer negotiations he's one of the best in the business.}

Don't see the issue. We have Morgan and Johnson and potentially Arzani. Hayes and Allen haven't really featured in last two seasons so won't be missed, no harm intended to either. I like how we are improving our team and also helping out Hibs and Aberdeen making them stronger at the same time win win. Imagine we abused our position by trying to unsettle players. Then offering derisory figures only for them all to be refused. Eventually reaching an agreement that your not fully happy with but are strong armed into as opposed to keeping a deeply unhappy player. Then offering to pay nothing up front for a couple of years as you actually can't afford it and don't really have any money! Hoping that you unsettle the player enough that they actually agree. If that still doesn't work offer to take them on loan. If you don't think we look in better shape now than we did this time last year and REMEMBER the window is still open, then I worry for you. Who would you rather deal with if you were an SPFL club?

We have looked better than the Invincibke year at times never mind last season. Just a couple more in defence and we will have the team that I think will get a couple of home wins in the CL at least.

Improve the defence and we move up a couple of levels. Eddy and Moussa leading the line will hurt any team. I can’t wait for them to be unleashed against the Loan Stars.

I think it's a good deal. Hayes won't get much game time for us this season and Allan is good bait for luring McGinn. I'd rather have McGinn in the squad than both of them. Plus Hayes can do some damage against some of our rivals and take points which will help us cruise to 8IAR.

Was there ever any movement this summer on Caulker at Dundee? I remember there being rumours that Rodgers would be having a look at him after he signed for them in January? Not that I'm eager to sign him, more curiosity than anything lol.

Think he got sent home from there pre season camp.

{Ed007's Note - That was to get an injury looked at. There was nothing sinister in it - much to some people's disappointment - but it didn't stop people speculating and just making stuff up anyway.}

30 Jul 2018 20:14:19
Aye when a read it Ed a thought it was personal stuff. Glad it wasn’t and regardless of where he plays here’s hoping he continues to win his battles.

I see the young Spurs striker Reo Griffiths we was apparently linked with has cancelled his contract. Looks a good prospect but can't see us signing another striker.

Plays as a winger also, if we do get him we would have a real player on our hands. Reckon he would waste away at PSG etc. So hopefully he comes our way.

With a lot of these young players money talks. There are not many dembeles or edourads out there who put there career first anymore.

Think he'd be ideal for us and if we're playing 2 upfront we'll need 4 strikers as Rodgers said that last season he'd only bring in another if he played 2 upfront.

Apparently going to Lyon.

It would be good to get him and loan him out to the championship or something. Won't cost us much at all and when Dembele decides to move on we have someone with similar potential already signed up.
