Heard on sly ed that we have made an official approach for Vaughan on a season long loan. Have you any updates on this? Don't think he's the answer but it's a fresh face in the squad.

Whoever this guy is we all owe him a massive debt of gratitude. As his post states, the MSM were intent on covering up Oldco's £49m non payment of tax.

Believable14 Unbelievable4

Well don K-Dot. Good points raised in this blog as I was not over bothered about the removal of records. No I believe they should at least be recorded as unearned or to use expression from "other" sources - tainted titles.

Is it true that Helsinki play on a plastic pitch at home?

I can see that causing problems for us.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

Yes, thats correct.

K-Dot.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes, they play on an old style plastic pitch which is not too good by all accounts. Remember a few years back we went to Moscow and got a result on their plastic pitch thanks to a Paul Hartley header so lets not give up hope yet.

Hi all will the helsinki game be on any tv channel or will it need to be a link?

my first bit of inside info for quite some time....
apparently we have been scouring eastern europe for a striker, mainly germany, poland and bulgaria, and have an interest in Ivan Stoyanov and Jeremy Perbet, both regarded as having decent goals/game ratios and available for under £4m. A deal for Jordan Rhodes has also been discussed, but addons and sell-on fees are a stumbling block.

Peter Lawell has promised Lenny a sizeable transfer kitty if we make it past HJK, as he's underspent for 2 years and slashed the wage bill considerably this season. The word is that the board knew we would be in this situation where we are the only show in town, and have been holding back, they now see this as the perfect opportunity to make serious inroads in europe.

Expect at least 1 big signing, either in august or january

taco

Believable7 Unbelievable10

I was thinking along the same line because they haven't really let nl go crazy and that it is perfect time to spend for a run in Europe because winning spl seems a lot easier. But I hope this is the plan and I hope that not getting before this game won't come back to bite us, I do think we can make it through but need reinforcements for cl so we can have a good run and open ppls eyes, which also might make our key players such as wanyama stay, as well be able to demand higher prices and become like Ajax and others which buy low and sell high and are successful

Agree0 Disagree0

If i remember correctly, it was either last summer, or january 2011 where Lenny said that he had money to spend, but there was no-one available to spend it on, and that he wanted to win the league first before he spent the clubs money.
so, if going by those statements, he has around 18 months of transfer kitty built up?

taco

Agree0 Disagree0

The best striker we could have got from the Eastern block was Artem Rudnevs. Would've cost roughly £3m but Hamburg seem to have snapped him up and his goals to game ratio was very good.

Dazz

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't believe Lawell will part with a penny until we know if we are CL or Europa.

Been watching the Olympic florid and can't help but think Jerry Bengston of Honduras would be the perfect fit for our big CF positon.
So far he's scored 3 in two games and looks extremely mobile.
Hope we're still monitoring this lad.

i've heard celtic are going to make a big signing if we get past helsinki ,to help get past the play off ,heard from a youth player that its a striker with a cb to follow

Believable8 Unbelievable12

I can see this happening cause the board and others might see as strong enough to make it through the first round. It might be a hard one in the playoff so I can see us pulling out the stops to help us get past in cl group, because more then ever we must get into cl and I would like to believe that they will add players in to make a good run, with the team we have if we add a few quality players we can have a great run in cl. Cause if we don't make it just think of all the trouble that would be head with the media and prob some players might be tempted to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we don't beat Helsinki by a good scoreline (and I mean by at least 3) on Wednesday night then we'll go out following the 2nd leg in Helsinki. We always collapse in away games in Europe.

It's a big chance that Lawwell is taking if he believes we're gonna make it past Helsinki before we spend anything.

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm sure we went to france and italy last year n never got beat off of much better opposition so i'm not that worried about the away leg.
my prediction 2-0 at home and 1-1 in helsinki

Agree0 Disagree0

We didnt 'collapse' away to Rennes or Udinese. People like you do my t!ts in! Get behind the team and stop with all the negativity.

Mikey Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt really say we collapse in the big games away from home in europe we went to dynamo moscow who were a decent team and won 2-0 we have a better team now but i think a top player will need to come in for the play offs because its going to be against top opposition

Agree0 Disagree0

At this moment our squad is weaker than it was at this time last year , we have let 7 players leave and left ourselves short in defence , if Neil is gonnae persist with players like Daryl Murphy and Kelvin Wilson then i fear for us in Europe , Celtic cant afford to take any team for granted in Europe now , if Murphy and Bangura are getting a game , why not Morten Rasmussen who would get more goals than both of them put together !!

Agree0 Disagree0

Oooh mikey bhoys got t!ts,.,.kbarry

Agree with post above, i think rasmussen looked quite good when mowbray was in charge dont have a clue why hes not getting a chance!

Good afternoon all! Ed was just wondering if we were after James vaughn? I've not checked the boys stats but is he what we really need? Just another striker with a bad goals per game ratio? If we are not going to add quality then I'm sure we all would rather play youth players than average players with previous promise.

Brian {Ed007's Note - As far as I know it is just paper talk Brian. Vaughan has a terrible injury record, he has played approx 100 games in eight years as a professional and hasn't scored 20 goals yet. Another striker who can't score goals, even when he is fit.}

Believable1 Unbelievable4

If I remember correctly Vaughn was the youngest ever player to score in the EPL and was also the fastest player in the league. I dont think he is what we need though but if we got him dirt cheap or on loan I wouldnt complain.

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

So what about the boys previous exploits when he was 16. As Ed points out, poor appearance vs goals ratio and injury prone. When money is tight are we really wanting to fritter what we have on that? Already got Murphy and Bangura on the books. Give Watt a chance before this average player. As for going on about a players promise, how about burchill, donnelly, fleck, macheda, mellor. Just a few boys who were tainted with the new "x" tag and came to nowt. So Vaughan scored a goal at 16 wow! Sorry to be so harsh but is that what we base a good cause to sign someone nowadays. stevo dundee

Agree1 Disagree0

I agree with you Stevo we shouldnt be signing him because of his previous potential but if he is still as quick as he used to be or even close he will cause SPL defenders nightmares. Look at how many goals Burchill got just through being quick even though he was a very average player. We havent had the option of a whippet to get in behind defences in a while so I can see the logic behind it.

Wanyama been reportedly watched by arsenal three times in past couple of weeks. If this is true expect a bid to be tabled. I hope not but in current climate a bid of anything close to the 10mill being quoted surely we have to look at and use to strenghthen the squad we have

The Happy Turnkey {Ed007's Note - Gilles Grimandi has recommended Wanyama to Arsene Wenger as an alternative to Yann M'Vila.}

Believable6 Unbelievable6

ED007 headline that got my heart racing was "Arsenal make 1.3 BILLION offer for Wanyama" sadly it was in a Kenyan paper and bid was in Kenyan SHILLINGS! still worth £10m Sterling but I want the billion in sterling LOL Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I'd be tempted by that Tim :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

If 10mill is the starting bid then I don't see why we can't hold out for more since other big clubs and all are just starting to take notice. He may be one of the best things to come out of spl and I think we should get a bidding war going on or get a young stricken and cb plus a sell on value and at least 10 mill in cash. But would love him to stay and build around him cause the we would have a great shot at going far in cl.

Ed do you think we will see him go if 10 mill is a bid or will we wait to see where we are in cl? Think if we are in he will stay for another year and them the price will sky rocket next year after he shows what he can do in cl. {Ed007's Note - I think if a bid of £10 million comes in then he will be sold.}

Agree0 Disagree1

In all seriousness Ed what kind of fee do you think Wanyama would fetch? I would love to see the lad stay but now the big guns are interested I think we'll be hard pushed to keep him.

Mac {Ed007's Note - The fee being mentioned everywhere is £10 million Mac, possibly £8 million with add ons greater than the £10 million would be accepted IMO.}

got my tickets for helsinki on saturday. really hope it will be a big crowd. imo this is probably the most important game of the season.is it not the case if we go out this round , thats it til next year. we really have to get through , then if we lose the next round at least there's the europa league safety net.. so come on ghuys and ghals lets have a special celtic park atmosphere on wednesday.. shamrock

Believable12 Unbelievable8

Totally agree iv just went and bought me and my son tickets for the game on wed its going to be his first game he is only 5 i hope he loves it. iv not been to a game since i was 16 im now 27 but plan to go to every game i get a chance to this season

wee darren

Agree0 Disagree0

Welcome back darren

Agree0 Disagree0

Shamrock read somewhere that 10,000 seats available so about 50,000 crowd so far not bad for a qualifier. hail hail Timalloy
PS wee darren I take two teenage girls to most matches, but I am also taking my two young nephews to their first Celtic european game...

Agree0 Disagree0

I think if we lose this round we then play a qualifier for europa league. If we lose in final qualifier we go straight into europa league group stages, Thats the way i read it. Anyway cant think of losing because this may be our best and easiest route to qualifying for some years as I believe we are seeded for next round thus avoiding the big guns.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers mate good to be back not been on for a while iv been working like mad, hope ur 2 nephews enjoy the game my wee boy cant wate he has not stoped talking about all day since i took him down to get the new celtic strip and the tickets. to be honest im all buzzed up my self its been years lol

Is there any truth in the John Mensah rumours Ed? I hope you are well mate.

Mac {Ed007's Note - There is definite interest in Mensah but personally I think it might be his agent using CFC to get his client a better deal elsewhere.}

Believable5 Unbelievable2

If Mensah Came and stayed fit he would be an exceptional signing. He has definately got the quality we need but the question mark is his ability to avoid injuries.

Ed do you think its a case of Celtic not wanting to spend money before the qualifiers or that the targets Lennon has wont join unless we are playing European football?

Mac {Ed007's Note - I said the other day Mac that it is possible signings are being stalled as potential players are looking for CL football. Look at the amount of players we have lost from the wage bill, we bid £3 million for Rudnevs in May and the deal for Fojut was cancelled over his fitness. Maybe CL will determine our signing targets and not just financially but being able to offer CL to players is a huge draw to any player.}

From a source at Newcastle Scott brown signing for them on Tuesday agreed at same time as Forster to hoops {Ed007's Note - It was agreed last summer? That's when CFC and Newcastle agreed the deal for Forster.}

Believable7 Unbelievable17

Wouldnt mind it, I am a fan of his and how we play but if we can sell him and keep others like wanyama, Kayla, hooper, Ledley, even ki and our better players and get money in to add and give better contracts then go for it. If that does happen then I'm sure Celtic are trying to do everything possible to keep our main players for Europe. A few extra pieces in cf and cb and I can see us having a good chance of a great run in cl and even near finals of Europa, at least it would show that celtic and Scottish football is not as bad as ppl think and that being in a poor league doesn't mean we are poor.

Agree0 Disagree0

Newcastle have tried twice before and failed.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we get good money for him then I'd let him go as long as we get to invest the money into the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

This will not happen.

We do not have a captain to replace him!

Agree0 Disagree0

Brown is a player who wants to play for Celtic Kayal and Wanyama dont care about Celtic and will jump ship as soon as a decent offer comes in. Comments from clowns make me angry

Agree0 Disagree0

It also happens that he is the worst of the three of them, brown that is.

And don't kid yourself on mate, if he gets offered 40 a week he'll jump from the ship also.

Point is would rather brown went than vic,kayal or ledley.

Jamie Mac(money talks)

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott brown has a groin injury..thats why he hasnt played recently

Agree0 Disagree0

Brown should never be captain in the first place. Kayal should be captain

Agree0 Disagree0

Kayal needs to go, he's always injured.
I would also sell Brown, if it was at least £6 million ( with a 25% sell on ) and make Ki captain.
