Ed with all the corruption going on in Italy and the talk of the national team coming out of the euros do you think it could extend to the CL seeing how juventus are involved and Italian teams could be banned and maybe we might just have to play one qualifier..""..."DH {Ed007's Note - I honestly don't know how far this is going to go. I try to avoid Italian football at all costs, it is so boring and the most corrupt league in Europe, has been for years. Stick to the Bundesliga for the best league in Europe, no matter what the English or Spanish say.}

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Couldn't agree more Bundesliga is great to watch in my opinion the best and most exciting league in the world can't understand why it is overlooked in Scotland maybe its because its Germany ,wish SFA looked at it and copied its template eg match tickets at a very good price , subsidized transport everything geared up for a great family day out we are light years behind {Ed007's Note - I have been over a few times over the years to watch Dortmund and for some St Pauli games. The atmosphere is fantastic and the football is of the highest level throughout the league, not TV razamatazz like Sly of Wigan v Bolton on a freezing cold Monday night.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Living in Germany at the momment and glad to see your comment Ed. Had this argument with many Enlish lads and im always saying the National team has done nothing since 66 and 3 clubs have won the European cup in 25 years. No way is it the best league in the world like the SLY pundits tell us. Paderbhoy {Ed007's Note - It's only my opinion but apart from a Man Utd game I would rather watch any game in Germany for quality of football compared to England.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Did ac milan not go onto win the champions league the season they were convicted in the last match fixing scandal? {Ed007's Note - In the words of Francis 'Franco' Begbie... 'And after that, well, the game was mine.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I was watching a second tier match from Germany and I thought this is a great game, Dusseldorf v Frankfurt I think. The players were not quite as good as the top flight, only in regards to the physical side. The footballing awareness and the positive nature of the game more than compensated. These German boys can play, even if some of them had small stature and weren't the quickest. PS I am comparing them to the top teams in the top flight. Many of the teams in the second tier of German football get huge crowds and would grace most leagues in Europe. I can only endorse what Ed007 says, the football the spectacle and the honest way the players go about their business is an example to all of us. Again endorsing what Ed said the Italians bring little to world football. Its such a pity because they IMHO have some of the best defenders in the world...or are the strikers tripping on their bootlaces at the crucial moment accidently on purpose! Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Im sorry but being of Italian decent I'm slightly offended by this. First of all, how can you get more corrupt than a league which has a governing body which sets out rules which get broken at every chance by one team? Rather than tackling the problem at hand, they sugar coat over it to try and keep everyone happy? That is corruption at the highest level. Combine that with their chiefs delaying registrations not to mention a million other suspect decisions over the years. Also, having crooks in charge of football clubs - don't even have to mention these people do I? Not only chairmen of rangers! Not to mention the fact there has never been a catholic in charge of the national team in scotland! Not only is Scotland's league more corrupt, it's the most bigoted in the world! Only difference is the corruption seems to be hidden. Being a Celtic fan and season ticket holdeR I am not just saying this cause I am an angry Italian football fan.

As far as England goes: match fixing was highlighted but not proven - definitely happens down there. Harry got away with it cause they were looking at him for the England manager job. Corrupt business owners, dodgy registrations blah, blah blah. Match fixing - , Bruce Grobelaar (however you spell it) could teach us all a thing or two!

Spain - the government decided to help a team that could operate within their means out with their debt...what the hell?

Italy is corrupt but at least the federations and authorities highlight it! They demoted the 'old lady' of Italian football! the deducted points from the most successful European team, and are now talking about banning football and withdrawing The national team from European Championships!

What do the FA, SFA the Spanish FA do?

They are all just as corrupt, if not worse!

I do agree the German league is the blueprint most leagues should follow...no foreign investors, terrestrial tv for football etc. but I would doubt they are more entertaining than watching the big games in England, Italy or Spain. Fair enough better than watching every game in Scottish football barring the old firm!

Celtic manager Neil Lennon focussed on Europe, says agent

Neil Lennon's agent has hinted his client would like to work in England one day, but insists his main focus is leading Celtic in the Champions League.

Lennon was linked with joining Norwich City before the Premier League club ruled out making an approach.

The Canaries are without a manager now that Paul Lambert has taken over at Aston Villa.

"To have a chance to be a manager in the Champions League is certainly top of his agenda," said Martin Reilly.

"I certainly haven't had any conversation with Norwich. I know there was a lot of rumour flying about that there might be a possibility of an interest.

"Every time there's a job that comes up, there's always some kind of speculation it might be Neil.

"As far as I'm concerned, he's the Celtic manager and he's loving the job and looking forward to the new season.

"I dare say in the future every manager would like a chance of something in the Premier League but hopefully that might be with Celtic one day.

"It is something that we've spoken about but, at the moment, he's really honoured to be Celtic manager and that's what he wants to do."

Lennon followed a Scottish Cup triumph in his first full season in charge with the Scottish Premier League title last term.

And Celtic will need to negotiate qualifiers if they are to reach the group stages of Europe's premier competition.

"He'll be away on holiday then he'll get back and get into it with the new signings and hopefully go on and do well in Europe next year," Reilly told BBC Scotland.

"He's on a rolling contract so he's at Celtic until we hear different.

"He's loving the job. [Chief executive] Peter [Lawell] and the staff have been great with him as well so he's a very happy man.

"Celtic's a massive, massive club to be the manager of. He's grown into the job, he's still a very young manager."

I saw the list of 'Free' agents from the EPL and I hope we don't go chasing any of these over-hyped past-it guys who are being told literally they are not good/fit enough for their clubs.
One or two of them might do a job but it's a risk and their wages could create unrest in the ranks.
We wasted time on Sol Campbell and Jimmy Bullard last season and both had horrendous seasons when they eventually stopped peeing about.
We should concentrate on our excellent scouts who have discovered some gems and find good players that will hit the ground running when the campaign starts. Not asking for much eh?? lol

Jungle Jim

Believable9 Unbelievable2

Totally agree mate! There free transfers for a reason, wages far too high n a lot off them r injury prone, waste off time n money! Final pay day for some off them! Would rather see younger more eager players in the hoops jersey!

Byars38625

Agree0 Disagree0

Jungle Jim - I agree also.

Celtic's scouting network has brought some incredible young talent into the club over the past couple of seasons.

It's also good to see the young boys coming through.

Lenny has identified that we need 3 - 4 experiences players and I'd think we 'd all agree with that.

The out of contract players from the EPL are not the way to go.

Experienced players in the 26 - 30 age group are the way to go and who still have a lot of hunger. The nearer to 26 the better.

I'm really hopeful that Lenny will pull of some further cracking signings this season.

Just got to say Edd this is the best site for the news, what you think on Saha? i know he is aging but he is noticed worldwide for his playing, scottish league would be easier too i think hed fit in fine. Yakubu is another one only 29 but would probably want at lease 60 k a week, i think 2million and stokes could be done for rhodes, doubt stokes would go to huddersfield, well if the money was right maybe. {Ed007's Note - Thanks very much. I think the problem with Saha, as it has been for years, is his fitness. If he had remained injury free he would probably still be at Man Utd, he was/is a fantastic player on his day. As for Yakubu Blackburn are looking for £1-2 million for him, depending who you believe, then his wages on top of that would make it very costly. I don't think he is on £60K a week, not at Blackburn. It looks as if West Ham could be his destination.}

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Can't see Yakubu joining us. He's a quality player and carried the side for Blackburn for much of the season, even if they ended up relegated.

Point being I reckon there'll be no shortage of interest from some good sides in the EPL as I reckon he could do a job at the vast majority of them. I'm sure even Arsenal have shown interest at some point.

Afternoon bhoys , wot about zaliukas from hearts as a signing. Decent cb and knows the league so wouldn't have to settle in.

Believable4 Unbelievable22

You're right, on his day he's a very good player, but IMO his problem is that he's prone to the odd howler. In this respect he's no better than Loovens or Majstorovic were as they were good but often had howlers which rendered them unreliable. If we're to get into and do a job in the Champions League, we need a consistent solid no nonsense performer who's a step up from the SPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah on his day a good player but makes more howlers than Loovens and Majstorovic combined, we need to set our sights higher than that, would be a squad player rather than one who enhances it. johnbhoy79

Hi ed, first time writer on the site, die hard Celtic fan! go to all away games n follow my club abroad too! fed up listening to all this rangers poison! They have done wrong n should accept there punishment. Banning them from the scottish cup just wont do it for me! I personally think they should be relegated to the 3rd division no questions. No special cases as the integrity off scottish football will be gone forever! Also if there r found guilty off the duel contracts case all there titles have to be taken off them as they were gaining an unfair advantage over everyone else! If the spl n sfa do not deal with this properly I will not follow Scottish football anymore! I will still follow my team in Europe n always be a Celtic fan but if the spl n sfa don't strip there titles they are basically condoning cheating! Ive spent fortunes following my club all over the country n for what? Rangers to be cheating all along! Interesting to see what mr lawell has to say when the truth comes out? He's a top bloke has done fantastically well keeping quiet till the true facts come out? What will mr lawell do if n when rangers have been found out to be cheating? I really don't want to punish my team but if rangers get away with all off this what's the point in following Scottish football anymore? What do u think ed mate? Sorry been wanting to get off my chest for a while! Lol! C'mon the hoops

Byars38625 {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site mate. Until the full extent of Rangers problems are known it is hard to say what punishment should be handed down. I said all along that taking the legal route (even appealing the embargo) could prove to be a grave mistake.}

Believable13 Unbelievable0

Grave haha goodyin bri67

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the prompt reply ed mate! Couldnt agree with u more, could not believe my ears when they appealed the embargo! They could effectively only have to pay 10 per cent off there debts thro a cva but still go out n spend money on new players a month or so later! Where is the fairness in that n what's to stop other clubs like hearts? who also have massive debts doin this! I don't want to see the end off rangers, I only want punishment that fits the crime! Rangers have had it there own way for far too long! FIFA getting involved now! Hopefully they will sanction rangers as stewart regan n neil doncaster have fumbled around this for far too long! Also worth mentioning I am a small business owner n if I avoided paye n tax payments to hmrc after taking the money off my employees wages I would be looking at a minimum 2 years in prison. C'mon the hoops

Agree with everything you and Ed say with one exception. Why cut your own nose off and also refuse to support your team at domestic level. Our proud team have done nothing wrong and deseve our continued support. We've always been up against the establishment so whats new? Stevo {Ed007's Note - I would never boycott the team Stevo and when there was talk of not renewing STs I said it was up to the individual to decide, no fans should be pressuring others not to buy them or attend games. Last season is the first in many years I didn't have a ST because of my leg but I am hoping that I will be fit enough to go to a lot more games and get a season ticket in the upcoming season. The only people who will tell me I am not getting a season ticket is my Mrs or my bank manager.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think they should also set the penalties of becoming a newco very high something laong the lines of 25 point deduction transfer ban on players over 18 and the 75 % of their share of t.v money and sponsorship for 3 years aswell as no european football for the same timescale if they were to impose that on rangers and before any bears spout up i would include any team reformed as a newco in this aswell this is the only way i would accept a rangers newco in spl three years of heavy pumpins lol

bigD {Ed007's Note - I suggested this the other night:

Unless an Oligarch finds out there is oil under Murray Park and swoops in to save the day, and the WORST case scenario I think Rangers should be liquidated. The assets sold off to pay every penny of debt (or as much as is raised goes on debts) from the bottom up. Pay all the local businesses, football clubs etc and HMRC get what is left, anything over that can go on Zombie Rangers. Under a five year 'probation', let them straight back into the SPL with a 15 point deduction which goes down 3 points every season if they meet certain conditions. All accounts are signed off and lodged in time for 5 years, all bills and players wages must be paid on time along with all taxes etc. The club can only spend what is made in profit, on outward transfers or is 'cleanly' invested, the club can not borrow over a set amount from banks etc and that can that only be borrowed over a season, basically they start every season with a clean financial slate, within reason (being 200k in debt isn't that serious really) or go back to the 15 point deduction mark at the start of the season(or maybe a Euro ban if applicable??). If Rangers keep up their part of the deal they will be back on an even keel after 5 years, everyone has been paid, and Rangers will be able to say they worked to get themselves out of the mess the hard way. That is probably miles out but you did ask and I am sitting bored, and it is as a worst case scenario like losing the BTC and that level of projected debt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guy above talking about season tickets: Last week I'd have agreed 100%. At the time I really didn't understand the people talking about boycotting Celtic Park if Celtic vote yes to a newco or whatever. On renewing my season ticket I didn't give it a second thought.

However I've been infuriated with Rangers this week. They've avoided their punishment and by the looks of it will exit administration via a CVA and if the SFA pussy out as I expect they will, they'll ban them from the Scottish cup next year. As a result they've cheated Scottish football, businesses and the taxpayer meanwhile allowing them to keep challenging for titles and trophies and they won't see any real punishment for it...it's a victory for them.

Theoretically this means they could clear the debts and just go back and sign players again with everything going back to normal as if they'd never ripped off every creditor they owe money to and cheated the game for a period of 10-15 years. This would be getting off light and show just how much the SFA and SPL pander for their establishment club. If they hadn't run up the bills and lived within their means, they might not be competing and winning titles. If they get off with it without somethinng deemed to me and the rest of Scottish football's supporters as a punishment, the game is a farce and not worth watching as the SPL will have allowed them to systematically gain an unfair advantage over everyone else and by not punishing them they're saying it's ok that they've done so.

NO. NOT HAPPENING. IF THIs HAPPENS I WON'T BE PUTTING ANOTHER PENNY INTO SCOTTISH FOOTBALL. CELTIC SHOULDN'T BE PUNISHED AND THEY'RE THE CLUB I LOVE BUT IT'S A MORAL ISSUE...THERE'S NO POINT IN FOLLOWING FOOTBALL IF IT'S NOT PLAYED OUT AS A FAIR COMPETITION. MAY AS WELL WATCH WRESTLING. {Ed007's Note - Hoi you!! What's wrong with wrestling? :-) It's the best soap opera on TV!!

www.talk-wrestling.com

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with u mate. The last thing I want to do is punish the club I love! I just want to see relevant sanctions for the crimes committed! We have been sold down the river far too long now! Not only have rangers been cheating the other clubs but also all the fans from other clubs, we have been paying good money to support our clubs while rangers have been living beyond there means, hiding payments from there accounts n basically cheating there way to titles! Im looking forward to seeing celtic's stance when the full truth comes out!

Byars38625

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally understand your frustration and expectation of our Football Associations taking the soft option, based on fear.
However we all love our club deeply; and with many of us 50+ folk it stretches decades before marriage and family.
It would be more painfull to stay away from Celtic games and remain bitter.
Fair justice and relevant punishment has to be seen to be carried out - as FIFA and UEFA are watching closely.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more jungle jim! Hopefully FIFA or UEFA will step in n take it out off the the Scottish football authorities hands as they are incompetent and I believe unwilling to punish rangers with the relevant punishments they deserve! If the relevant sanctions r not put on rangers the integrity off our game will be gone forever! All us celtic fans want is a level playing field. Not too much to ask for.

Hi Ed, earlier, i wasnt referring to you staying away. i also come on here daily so know the probs youve had with the leg (hope its getting better btw). i just cant not go and support my team no matter how much that mob may get away with things. if it goes that way i believe everyone will treat any game against them as a cup final n give 110%. every little dubious decision will be contested against them n i can just imagine the hatred from all sides if they do somehow manage to stay in spl. {Ed007's Note - I know you weren't meaning that, I was just giving my point of view on it. All I meant was it is up to individuals what to do, all these calls for boycotts etc is a complete nonsense to me. My leg is not bad thanks.}

Any news on signing Dixon from Dundee utd? He would be good cover for izzy....

Believable16 Unbelievable2

I mentioned this months ago and got shpt down in flames. His crossing is second to none. Most of Russell and Daly's goals came from his balls getting swept in. Remember Russell's header at Ibrokes season before last? I've a few Utd mates and the only problem is his defending, not the best but depending on system played sure he'd do a job at least at domestic level. In a better team I'm sure he'd become much improved. As for Izzy, hope he gets a good summer under him and comes back stronger, not a patch on the player from last year when he returned towards the end of campaign. Stevo

Agree0 Disagree0

Izzy was showing signs of getting back to his best at the end of last season. he'll be good next year but yeah would take dixon as backup

Agree0 Disagree0

He's a good player but he's probably an unnecessary signing. We have plenty of players who can play left-back - Izzy, Mulgrew and Blackman as well as

Izzy is my first choice as I prefer Mulgrew and one other at CB, he offers more in terms of pace and in his first season was the team's outstanding player. Blackman actually looks a decent find and definitely one for the future. If needs must we can play Matthews there as well.

Bottom line: The big ho...er I mean unless we lose anyone he's an unnecessary signing.

Ed think we should use zaluska as our no1 and big cervi no2 get him back. Wanyama Chico loovens rogne cb Mathews emilio cha lustig Blackman fullbacks. Ledley Forrest broony kayal samaras paddy commons henriksen ibrahim mcgeouch mid. Hooper watt stokes Bangura new signing

Wot u think BHOYS?

Paulbhoy010

Believable1 Unbelievable23

Zaluska will always be a number 2 , Cervi !!, Loovens time is up so is Paddys and Cha . Jury's still out on Lustig , Blackman , and Bangura , Rognes injured more than he plays . Hoping for new GK as I think if Forster was signing he would have done so .Craig Gordon ? . Cover for left back David Murphy? . Commanding solid CH . Skilled playmaker , Sell Stokes and get in 2 good strikers. Just a wish list .....DH

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally, don't think Zaluska is good enough, decent understudy. Loovens not good enough. CB needed. Not seen enough of Lustig or Blackman but first choice full backs are class. Kayal is great when he plays but we need more than half a season from him. Big, powerful striker is a must. IMO

Sydney Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Rogne is in injured more than he plays? Give it a rest, he was simply outstanding for us last season. If Mulgrew wasn't untouchable at times his performances would have been seriously praised.

Agree0 Disagree0

Cervi has left Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with most of DH's reply - those 4 are or will be off IMO. We need a CL class Goalkeeper, Centreback and Forward. We do have fairly un-tested talent in Ibrahim, Ward, Blackman, Bangura and Mcgeough, although 4 have had appearances here and there. Ibrahim is a mystery and I don't know why he hasn't featured - is there problems there?
I would also sell Stokes, and K Wilson and replace with better class.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

I like Zaluska but he's shown in the past he can't handle the responsibility of being number 1 at Celtic, but he is a very good keeper and I think should be rewarded for his patience by playing more games.

However I'd prefer we don't take any chances this time round in qualifying. Bring a quality keeper in and be done with it.

And Cervi has left. Don't see the point in signing a third choice keeper who isn't a prospect for the future. As such I'd imagine we'll have Robbie Thomson as 3rd choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rogne :simply outstanding : wouldn't go that far how many times did he go off injured , played 17 games , nothing against the lad but he's not that good."........DH

What positions do you think are most important to add to over the summer? I'm seeing a lot of talk about attacking midfielders but for me, a target man striker is the most essential as we have nobody like this at the moment.

Believable11 Unbelievable2

I'd say a good keeper then a reliable cb are what we need. I recon we need a cf as well but I'd say gk needs to be sorted out as soon as possible.
Nickybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Big striker. But it has to be a quality one, the best forward at the club. It needs to be someone who is the first name on the sheet, a proven scorer. Stokes and Hooper need to compete to partner whoever it is.

Agree0 Disagree0

It seems we will need a Goalie - so it's always important to familiarise him with his defenders etc before we go into the CL qual so I would say 1 - Goalkeeper, 2-Target Man, 3 - Centre back.
All of a very high standard with any cash we get from freed-up wages or transfers.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

Playmaker required first and foremost for me, defence held it's own in Europe for the most part anyway. Cha back pass in France won't happen again,kayal won't duck away from a shot again and I don't think we will see as poor a penalty given against us,in Europe anyway, as the one at home to udinese. That's 6 points lost due to an error or bad fortune.
Point I'm making is that if we have a more creative player in we will create more chances which normally results in more goals. Bare in mind I said playmaker first, I'm not saying we couldn't do with a ch, this is obvious.

What I also think is obvious is the fact we will play 352/532 in Europe. Both Matthews n Emilio have the stamina for wing back, rogne needs all the games he can get as the boy could be world class IMO so unless nl fully trusts big vic at ch already I would think it's certain the ch we do sign will be a starter as is Mulgrew. Charlie brings too much coming out from the back with the ball at his feet to not be viewed as pivotal to any team selections made. Again just my opinion, of course.

If we don't sign Forster, do you think it would be worth taking a punt at going for Jaaskelainen since he's a free agent now?

He's slagged off the SPL before so can't see him coming.Good keeper tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's a clown, he's made more cock ups over the years than I've had hot dinners. Not in the same class as boruc or gordan. Good reflexes but every other aspect of his game has faults. Catching, coming for crosses, coming off his line and like I say is prone to the odd rush of blood to the head. Not for me at all.

Did u see the errors he made last season? He's past it! We need someone much younger.
