Surely not that boy is pure class and can do a job for us. Pleeze keep him at Cerltic Park. CM

Agree0 Disagree0

Who is he

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok if we sign Rhodes otherwise a bit shortsighted!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope not he could play a major part in this coming season....

Hoopey67

Agree0 Disagree0

I am assuming that Lenny has a quality signing up his sleeve. In that case could be a good move to bring the lad on.

If the signing is that fud though from Notts Forest I think you've made a big mistake Neil!!

Iain

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope we keep him, this is a season i would give the youth players a bigger part to play.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure how true this is but i work with a Rotherham fan who asked me who Tony Watt was because he had read that they were getting him on a one year loan as part of their new stadium/ new look squad.

DAMO1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be a good move for the lad so long as he gets game time.

Agree0 Disagree0

He needs to go on loan. Wouldn't get a game for Celtic until late on in the season.

We've managed to dodge a bullet bhoys and ghirls! Leon Best has joined Blackburn on a four year deal from Newcastle for £3m! I can sleep a little easier tonight!

Ice man

Believable19 Unbelievable3

True was on local radio tonight, not quite a doña deal yet though!

As much as I would have liked to see Jordan Rhodes in a Celtic shirt it is clear that the signing of £5-6m players are gone for the forseeable future.
However I take a lot of comfort from some of the great previously-unknown talent we have been able to capture in recent seasons.
Add to this successes like Ledley, Hooper and Commons (on his game) from lower English divisions and we can be optimistic that our scouting system is and will be a big part of the clubs success.
I can't wait to see what new 'diamonds' are discovered in the next month or two.

Believable18 Unbelievable8

Very true Jim, John Park is an absolute genius

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

John park should be given a 20 year contract

bigD

Agree0 Disagree0

I think NL has stated in the past that he can't buy until he sells.

So if Ki goes for the reported £8M he could easily afford Rhodes and possibly Henriksen as well.

Thanks for everything Davie but mind the door doesn't hit you on the arse as you leave.

Hey Ed, I was thinking last night and I just wanted to see what your's and everyone else's opinions were on this: Dont you think it's been slightly overlooked that we could use at least the next season to blood the seemingly great crop of young lads we have? Even in the SPL putting out teams like:

Forster
Lustig, Rogne, Fraser, Izzy
McGeough, Ledley, Ibrahim, George
Watt, Hooper

And we have others such as Bobby Thomson, James Keatings, Josh Thompson, the Twardziks, Lewis Kidd, Andre Blackman and the young Bosnian lad Atajic (Not sure if he left though)... I still think there's more to come even from the likes of Bangura who I think looked decent near the end of the season. I just think this is a positive aspect coming out of all the negatives recently. We have a great crop of young lads coming through and it's high time we took the chance to develop them. Thoughts?

Danjam {Ed007's Note - I am all for bringing youth players through, it works for other club's and I would look at Germany and Holland as a model. CFC has the chance to change Scottish football for years to come if they do things right.}

Believable12 Unbelievable8

I think there is a positive spin to be put on all this, it is a chance to restructure and re-create. While many other leagues are spending large money outwith their means, we (Scottish football, not just CFC) can get a head start on developing our on players. Two thirds of SPL players are Scottish at the moment and it would be great for that to increase, as the popularity of football will increase with kids thinking they actually have a chance, hence more people coming to games.

I have also said in the past that there are 3 words that contribute greatly to the downfall of Scottish football in recent years: "NO BALL GAMES".

I have experienced this myself: When kids in Spain play football on the street or in a park or an open area of grass, adults come along and watch, applauding the good football they play. It's not about winning, it's about entertainment and putting on a show. I swear, when I saw this, I found myself clapping at 8 year olds I didnt even know, purely because they were great footballers for their age and size. They are encouraged to play when they can and to put on a show, sadly, the attitude here is not quite the same.

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

Thought andre blackman was released?

Agree0 Disagree0

I appreciate what you are sying mate , i really do , but how do we play them and keep . mattews, mulgrew, stokes, brown, commons, samaras, forrest,ki,wanyama, kayal , how do we keep this lot happy if they are not playing.shamrock

Agree0 Disagree0

Nope, he's still here

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

That is an exciting team imo
id be hoping wee jimmy forrest would still feature in the side but if people come hunting him then either one of the two wingers u mention would be fun to watch grow
i really want ibrahim to get a game
i think celtic need to do things in a new way but i dont want us to be the same as everyone else
there is this new breed of player appearing in holland and the likes who are very regimented in the way they have been taught making them all the same player imo and none of them stand out for me.
id be looking at how barca train the youth seeing how young jordi alba left barca as a kid and then it cost them 14m to get him back
a little bit of time and patience with the youngsters of celtic and some tweeking and they could be set
id also like to add that many of celtics past youth prospects ie mcgreedy and shaun baloney reached a certain level and peaked. we need to learn, again only imo, how to advance someone beyond that as champ man would put it "hot prospect" level. there lies the key (or ki ;p)

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said danjam No Ball Games signs are a horrible thing
we used to change them to "all Games" by scoring out the no and b
also would the greats of football be as great as the are or were if they had grown up playing on broken bits of brick? bin ash pitches
i used to hate wire brushing my knees on a sunday afternoon
ParadiseAndy

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, I used to be up at 7am on a Saturday or during the holidays, go round and gather my pals, and we'd go to an empty bit of grass and play until about 10pm. Then the put up a "NO BALL GAMES" sign but we rather immaturely changed it to "NO BALLS"... Come on, we were 8

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

Shamrock, I would rather sell a couple (Stokes, Ki, and I've never been a massive Brown fan but he is captain and played well last season) and give the young lads a chance! What's the point on spending so much money on a class youth academy if you're gonna let all but 2 or 3 run out their deals and leave them playing for Cowdenbeath?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the above posts.the no ball games signs are everywhere and theres hardly ever any kids playing in the streets or the parks around anymore and its no wonder scotland aint producing the players anymore.make them play with a smaller size ball until they are about 12/13 and see how good a touch they will have when the start using a full size ball

MK BHOY

Agree0 Disagree0

We have a wealth of riches , too much for spl , ok get rid of ki , stokes and if you want broonie{ i dont} but what about the other 7 i mentioned they have to play as well. mate the way celtic are right now we could play two teams in the spl and would finish 1st and 2nd . so yes maybe play the young guns and the old hands in rotation . in fact a rotation system is probably the way to go. shamrock

Agree0 Disagree0

Fact remains the coaching ain't upto the job lads, sfa is outdated in this area by light years. The early touches and development certificates are of terrible content. So it goes like this- young boys showing potential in the local side muddle on along not challenges or having the means to develop at a more advanced level and rate and this is because their is no guidance on how to nurture such talent. They drift and drift until maybe they are scouted go to the team and begin to be challenged.
now they must hope that they haven't been drifting and been left behind by the time they get there.
The outlook across the board has to be more positive, the methods ain't there at the minute to allow talented individuals to flourish to their fullest capacity but we do produce plenty "functional" players, number of Scots making a good living down south shows this, so its not the terrible situation the media would have you believe.

Its simply a case of getting the talented players into the correct line of training asap because the talent is certainly still there in the youth. Celtic adapted their structuring in the not so distant past and are reaping the benefit but most importantly for me so are the boys, we are more capable of providing these boys with the tools required to be all that they can.

The problems at grass roots level won't be changed overnight but the answer is there for the necessary chiefs to implement them.

The skill is there, platform needed.

Agree0 Disagree0

Certainly give the fring players a bit more of a chance. Don't overlook too many of already young and talented players currently getting a game though

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree Jamie Mac

Danjam

Agree0 Disagree0

It's all about squad rotation these days and I don't think the top players would be too concerned if they were not playing week in week out if it was giving some of the youngsters a chance. I think it's a fabulous opportunity, there is a lot of very promising talent at Celtic these days, more than I ever remember really. let's give them a chance to show us what they can do!

Agree0 Disagree0

Id rather keep and play our best players instead of playing our youth just for the sake of it

Ed have you heard anything aboot Fabrizio Miccolli? Heard a few rumours that we might be looking at him. Also, thoughts on a 3-5-2 for next season? I would love to see this if we get Ciani as the rock between Wanyama and Mulgrew {Ed007's Note - I have asked Ed001 and 002 to find out about Miccolli. His wages would be a problem IMO.}

Believable2 Unbelievable9

He is about to sign for a chinese side

Agree0 Disagree0

Is that the waiter in toni macaroni's .... fud! {Ed001's Note - no, it is an Italian international who was recently released. He seems to have lucrative offers from China and Russia, so I very much doubt Celtic will even be in the running now.}

Hi Ed, seen this a couple months back and it's in today's S*n again regarding Celtic trailing our feeder club, Santos Laguna's, young player Candido Ramirez. I've not seen anything of him, but Santos seem to think he's a World beater. If Lennon likes him then he'd be best just finding the money from somewhere - selling a dud like Murphy or McCourt - and bringing him in. Lenny has a good history of bringing in young talent (Wanyama, Hooper, Kayal etc) and them being stars. Any opinion?

Greg {Ed007's Note - I've never seen him playing but he is highly rated.}

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Mc Court ,a dud ?. Strange statement that !.

Agree0 Disagree0

McCourt is a dud. He plays well once every 6 weeks. That's far too inconsistent for a player to be at Celtic and simply because the GB love him I don't see that as a good enough reason to keep him. Make money on someone who doesn't do it week in week out for either being too unfit or simply unreliable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Santos seem to have kicked Celtic right into touch, publically. Hardly the workings of a great relationship between clubs is it? Hopefully just translations issues.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who mentioned the GB loving anybody ?... NL himself has the highest regards for Paddy and is generally accepted as the most gifted player at CP... Paddy will move on but its not because he's a dud for sure ...This Mexican world beater that youve "not seen anything of him", you'll just pull a couple of names out of a hat ,label them dudes ,sell them on and buy this "world beater ".... Good luck in your future as a football manager.....TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

Mccourt is a dud hes as much use as an ornament

Agree0 Disagree0

McCourt is a very skillful player who can score an attractive goal. however obviously has issues getting picked for 90 minute games so imo that makes him a dud. if you hardly ever play how can you be considered a success? I love him and hope he does well but he's done nothing at Celtic

Agree0 Disagree0

Paddy McCourt was Celtics most used sub was he not? Therefore very much part of a title winning side. Only really his stamina that keeps him from starting. Very much doubt he will be sold unless he requests a move, which he's talented enough to do.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paddy McCourt was Celtics most used sub was he not?... how did you work that figure out ? does that include guys like samaras who starts or comes off the bench or stokes or ki ? or does it just include players that have sub on the back of their jersey ?

Bordeaux's Michael Ciani could be a Celt this week with the club hoping to have him on board before the pre-season training camp in Germany.

Believable3 Unbelievable9

Not at the asking price of £2.5m he won't be. End of this rumour.

Agree0 Disagree0

2.5 is well within our budget assuming Lenny is sticking to the plan of signing 2-3 quality players.

Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

2.5m course we could pay that just payed 2m for forster so i dnt see the problem SL
