Johnny Russell will be a Celtic player by Friday. £1.8 million fee agreed in principle. Very reliable source guys;-)

Believable16 Unbelievable23

Think Crystal Palace are also interest

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know about the fee but I have heard the same from someone who knows him well

Agree0 Disagree0

Seen him in Tesco coatbridge buying a celtic cake...must be true then..

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope not he's not worth 1 million never mind anymore.......

Agree0 Disagree1

You can not say Johnny Russell is not worth 1m. Come off it, the bhoy has plenty of potential and is a good age for us.

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't think he's any better than tony watt which is why I don't believe we should be spending that money on him I would much rather spend it on mackay Stevens more potential and in a position we need to strengthen.

Agree1 Disagree0

Good player but is he better than stokes? No I don't think he is, will he take sammys place, doubt it wot about commons, no chance and he's certainly no Gary Hooper that's for sure. Wish we would start bringing in quality now rather than quantity

Raff

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd love to see him in the hoops....I think if we got him he would stay for a few years longer than most of our signings and think he would eventually be better for us than hooper...hooper is class but he wants to go, who better to sign and has bags of future potential...1 mil would be a bargain!

Agree1 Disagree0

Raff if we do sign him, I hope he does take commons or sammys place! He's got the potential to be far better than they two, commons hasn't been in form since he joined, the guy is mince time for him to go...would rather have russell than commons that's for sure

Agree1 Disagree1

You have been watching a different Celtic to me this season if that is your opinion on Commons. I would like to see Russell sign but as a long-term replacement for Hooper. He has to be worth a chance.

Agree1 Disagree0

He got pace to burn up defenders, with the right coaching he could eclipse even what Hooper has done , and with rodic, watt and forrest around him, Celtic future frontline could develop into something truely frightening, hope we sign him, we have sniffed round him in the last 2 to 3 windows, its time to see him in the hoops . I've watch a lot a oz football, a former Celtic player how moved on to soon has really found his form, michael mcclinchy should be brought back to Celtic park .

Agree0 Disagree0

Should go for McKay-Steven as well we need a winger, we could loan Jackie and Simon a couple of younger player ie the Twardzik twins or Marcus Fraser would be useful to get them game time and SPL experience .

Anyone know who the two trialists we have at the moment are? I've heard there's a goalkeeper and an English player (unknown position)

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Yeah the goalkeeper is from the USA

Agree0 Disagree0

I think I read somewhere on the net that the goalie is Dutch. Can't remember his name, not a well known 1 anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard he's from Antartica :]

Agree1 Disagree0

It's young Sweedish goalkeeper Viktor Noring.

Heard this morning Stoke are in for Mile Jedinak, Australian Midfielder. Has been in the national set up for a while now, and I think is a very good player and would suit us. Can hold up and play a great ball, although he isn't a monster like Vic.

AVB when asked about Hooper.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas was quick to rule out a move for the former Scunthorpe player.

"I was never in Scotland seeing the player so I don't know where it came from, " he said.

"Obviously I think he is a player of massive talent but he was never mentioned to us."

The story had no foundation, no quotes from anybody. I smell lamb.

Just read over on another site that it's being reported on RTE Radio that Man Utd are going in for Wanyama. I hope this doesn't happen in this window. We need the big man for Juve. I think he would be a much bigger loss to our chances than if Hooper went in this window (**** reporting Tottenham in for him today). No disrespect to Hooper but any half decent striker will score goals at a club like ours with the chances created (Scot McDonald scored loads for us and just look how he got on down south). I like Hooper but if he wants to go and we can get £8m then good luck Gary and thank you very much. We have other good strikers at the club that will see more game time and score more. Also, for me, Hooper is fairly easily replaced with another decent striker but Wanyama is a different story altogether. Irreplaceable IMO and, as he is on a long contract, we don't need to cash in right now. It'd be CL suicide letting the big man go in this window. Ed, please tell me it won't happen.
Weetam1888 {Ed007's Note - I still expect both Wanyama and Hooper to be here when the window closes.}

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Agree with Ed that both are likely to be Celtic players on Friday but also think Tam is spot on about Wanyama. Totally irreplaceable. If we do hold onto both and no one else comes in, I'll see this as a successful window. McGeough and Forrest will be back and will get sustained time in the team (kids are always getting broken!) They'll hog that right flank between them, Samaras and Commons are doing a good enough job on the left for me, Sunday was a blip. Keep The Faith, Daviebhoy77

Ed are we looking at any defenders. We are strong all over the pitch but lack an old head at the back. Also has Hopper no respect for the club if he says he is happy and Neil saying he won't stand in his way in the summer, why won't he sign a new contract so we can make some good money from him, after allthe the effort we have put into him. Jim HH {Ed007's Note - With Gershon coming in I can't see any other defenders being targetted.}

Believable1 Unbelievable5

See Kilmarnock signed a die-hard Celtic fan from and Ireland Sam Clingan, great wee player surprised he came to the SPL, with Charlton making waves

I was playing golf at Yas Links in Abu Dhabi today with a guy who is an advisor to HSBC and said he has some involvement with Spurs -he says that a 12 million bid will be on table for hooper tomorrow morning. Seems legit.
Hail Hail, Paul Fletcher

Believable4 Unbelievable22

Not a chance on gods green earth we will get 12 million for Hooper mate, maybe for 2 Hoopers aye. Your man is telling you what you want to hear with regards to the size if the bid, if there is even to be a bid at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we sell him, then 12 sure would be good but why bid 12 when 8 would do?

Agree0 Disagree0

Weren't you the guy who was sitting beside dermot desmond on a flight to the middle east during the last day or two of the summer xfer window. Did dermot not tell you what was it now??? I can smell the camel sh!t from here, no offense intended bud, but give us a break... There are a lot of guys who read this site to get the low down on what's really happening and we can do without the clap trap some put on just to annoy us

So this is now tomorrow morning and where is the 12 million bid???????

Any truth in this guys? If so I hope Lenny has a top quality replacement. He should have because he has known for some time that this day could come......which it hasn't yet but it looks a wee bit likely!

The president of the Kenyan Football Association has reignited speculation that Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama could join Manchester United before this month's transfer window closes.

Twenty-one-year-old Wanyama has long been linked with the Premier League leaders, whose manager Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have recently watched the Kenya international in action.

While refusing to name which team Wanyama will be signing for, president Sam Nyamweya insisted that he will join "one of the big two clubs in the world" in the near future.

"Wanyama will soon be joining one of the big two clubs in the world. It is an exciting moment for us, which means that Kenya is a powerhouse in football, " he said.

The Nairobi-born midfielder arrived at Celtic from Belgian side Germinal Beerschot in 2011.

Celtic on the verge of completing a pre contract deal with sporting braga winger helder barbosa.
Supposedly he was at the benfica game at parkhead as he has close friends from benfica but who knows if this is true,,, just a rumour I heard on a Celtic forum
Also that Hooper may be leaving if 8m plus is offered but anything less then he will stay till the summer as he has told Lennon he wants to play against juve.
I reckon we should reject all approaches and try and get him back up top with stokesy and play the game of our lives in the last 16 and he may want to sign a new contract if it is offered.
If he plays well in the cl then i'm sure he, ll get called up to the England squad.
As for wanyama I think the boy is off in the summer, sad to say it but the boys just incredible and has served us well, we have the ability to find replacements and will get a good fee,
Manchester seems his likely destination. What's your thoughts guys?
Mckendrybhoy67

Believable7 Unbelievable6

"He wants to play against Juve" ? He like the rest of his team mates didn't look like they wanted to play against anyone Sunday past !....A few boys benched for a game or 2 maybe ?regardless how good Alex Ferguson thinks they are .......TTTS

Barry the janny

if big vic goes I would love it if celtic recieved a fee in the region of £17m+ also if hooper goes a fee in the region of £ 8/9 m, i'm sure that we aren't gonny get the £25m that lenny quoted for vic ... also be a good idea to loan the bhoys back too us so they can play versus juventus as i'm sure they both would love to play in that game

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't see vic going for anythin past 15....17 mil is dreamland, he will go for 12-13 with a sell on clause...hooper will go for 7/8 max and none of them would get loaned back...and honestly would you want a player playing for you if he was leaving especially if he knows where he is going in the summer...atleast if celtic say no to bids flat out, those players need to perform week in week out to try get that move they crave in the summer! Would be a bad idea to sell and get them back on loan.

Agree1 Disagree0

Barry the janny

dont see where you are coming from, I won't them to play against juventus as we have a better chance of qualifiying with them and if that's a loan deal then fine, if we get the money we want for victor and hooper and qualify for the last 8 surely that's a massive injection of cash ... or we could refuse to let them both go and they don't bother to try their best till summer ...i know what I would prefer !!!!

Agree0 Disagree0

My deepest darkest nightmare is that we cash in on both of them and then try and get two free agents after the window closes ! if that's the case the buscuit tin ! has never gone away .

Agree1 Disagree0

I just hope we keep the big man til the end of the season. Wouldn't grudge him a move down south if that happened. Stef

We are crying out for a left sided player and clearly he doesn't fancy McCourt (who may leave) or Commons in the role and obviously playing Mulgrew there hasn't worked. Izzy is trick, but forgets/fails to defend.
Forrest and McGeough play on the right but are often injured or on the bench so why not get Mackay - Steven or even McGeady back on loan?
Also; If Hooper is leaving and obviously Bangura has been loaned; I hope we get a very suitable replacement striker - who hits the ground running - as we face a very important February including another tricky cup tie in Kirkaldy that requires full commitment and focus.

Jungle Jim

Believable11 Unbelievable6

Pointless..mcgeady has already played in europe and we don't need him for the league. as for mackay stevens, he simply isn't good enough

celticthomas

Agree2 Disagree1

We are crying out for some width! I just wonder if McGeady may be open to a return in the summer!

I would take him back in a heartbeat, if the price was right of course!

Agree1 Disagree0

Mackay Stevens IMO is a better option than McCourt & Commons, he's fitter than Paddy has better potential than them both, and his attitude and work rate is fair superior than Commons.

Plus he's an out and out left sided winger and has all the same tricks as Aiden

get him signed

Agree2 Disagree2

We have to look beyond the confines of the SPL.There are many better bets thn GMS......jimthetim

Agree0 Disagree0

We are not crying out for width - especially from the left-hand side. We have a squad full of wide players.
On the left, Samaras is already out there. Izzy should stay out there, but wanders inside because Sammy is out left in front of him. Commons is also on the left when he plays, although usually tucked in. Mulgrew can also bomb on down the left at times.
The real problem is a lack of creativity in the middle of the park, and as a team we very rarely cross the ball into the box from out wide. Everyone tries to play through the middle.
A proper no10 (Rogic hopefully) and a direct centre forward who can head the ball (when was the last time we scored a great back post header?) would allow us to mix it up, get our real wingers in behind crossing - and generally avoid Sundays performance as we would have a Plan B.
McKay-stevens, Russell from utd are not better than what we have already.
I would hope we could spend the Hooper money on Rhodes (doubt it) and possibly pair him with Stokes as he is proven for us.
We'll see.....................kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

We are so crying out for width...even NL has said it! Commons is mince, he's no had a good time since his first half a season for celtic...we certainly haven't seen that same commons again, and again I said a few months ago that commons old derdy manager said that at the time he joined celtic that is was the best form commons had ever got to then jumped ship...looks like the old commons is back to me, simply not good enough, mccourt I'm sure is a draught excluder for the changing room in what planet is he better than gary mckay steven? The wee man is full of energy and can beat players at will, I can't say that about anyone in the celtic team apart from forrest and he's been on treatment bench a lot this season...sammy can only get past a player if there is plenty of space behind, he has no skill or even a good touch to get past a player and on sunday he showed he can't even make a pass....there are a few in the current team that need dropped or moved on, the team need freshened up with some pace and someone with the ability to beat a player someone that does that something different not what teams are expecting..we don't have that!

Agree0 Disagree0

Very unfair on Kris Commons. Only creative player we have. Only one to put crosses in on Sunday when came on. He's maybe dropped a little in performance since 1st season but certainly not 'mince'. (although has maybe eaten too much mince in recent months). Still important player for us. Dhanbo

Hearing stronger rumours from CP that Hooper is signing for Spurs this week £8m. Hope this is true as all the speculation must be unsettling, we should cash in now and move on.
#ShottsBhoy

Believable14 Unbelievable11

My friend lives in Essex and told me last week Hooper strongly linked with Spurs, feels he has something to prove after being let go as a youngster..I can actually see this happening and I for one will be totally gutted.we should make him an offer he cannot refuse.

DR today are reporting that Spurs are about to make a move for Hooper. They are saying that his agent expects them to join the race for him and they also say Norwich are about to make an improved bid closer to the £8m mark. Also reported is we are in for Ivory Coast left back Siaka Tiene who has been told by PSG that he can leave.Tiene is currently at the African Cup of Nations.

Jungle Bhoy.

Believable9 Unbelievable6

Izzy hasn't played as good as he can. Simple as that. Tiene would provid quality cover/replacement and hopefully up Emilio's game. Only qualm with Hooper leaving this window would be a suitable replacement getting in on time.

Scott Sinclair on loan, would he be a realistic target? Hasn't played in Europe yet so he wouldn't be cup tied...

Believable4 Unbelievable9

He has played for Swansea and City this season so is unable to sign for a third team this season

He also started the game against Dortmund in the CL mate.
