After watching some highlights (?) of last nights Scotland game it is time that the SFA faced some harsh facts. The game in this country is pretty much dead. In my opinion they are now paying for years of having self serving blazer fillers in key positions in their organisation. Clubs also have to have a look at themselves, trading on fan loyalty is not a sustainable business model. Like the media they have closed their eyes to a changing world.

When I was young as soon as School finished we were out playing football, and this was across the country, until dark. Two nights a week I trained with my Juvenile team and one session after School for their team. There were no distractions and we all wanted to be players. Now, sadly, the world has came to Scotland. Kids can communicate with other kids from all over the world in seconds, on-line gaming is an enormous draw and a generation, maybe even two, are lost to football and sport in general. TV has also played a part in the demise, fantastic games from all over the world pretty much every night means no one is interested in supporting their teams.

For me the game here needs radical surgery. The SFA/SPL should ensure independent accountants are in place at every club to ensure they live within their means. Every lower league team must have at least seven under twenty ones in every game. Loans should be limited to two per season, unless in special circumstances, and wages should be at a fixed rate for every club. In the SPL I would have five under twenty ones, and wages relative to turnover. All league teams should have no more than three non nationals ON THE PITCH at any time.

On owners. At the start of the season they must show they have the funding in place to ensure wages and expenses are never in danger of not being paid. No more robbing Peter to pay Paul. Also needing scrapped is the nonsensical coaching of kids. Since this became mandatory standards have slid alarmingly. I would think the drop out figures from various academies must be shocking, and so many of these kids, dumped at fifteen-sixteen think they are finished. This is not perfect but it would be a step in the right direction. green jhedi

Some great points raised and certainly should create discussion. I am 5 ft 2 inches - not exactly the best height for a footballer so I never made any of the official teams. I tell you what, I WAS Jinky, Big Billy, wee Joe and Gemmell when I played street team games. The comment about kids being ditched was spot-on. All the other distractions around now have taken the young ones away. Why go to a game - transport headaches, crowds, police marshalling, expensive gate ticket, freezin cold/rain, many a dross game played and then the same hassle to get home when you can sit with a PS3, Computer, live EPL? We need drastic change in our entire set-up starting from the top. We cannot justify all these suits running the game. One association to run the entire Scottish football set-up. Professionals on the control boards and more fan input on decisions. Let's hear others opinions.

To the first 2 posters:
You're wasting your time mates. There's too much common sense in your posts for the blazers to take in!

GJ & TT - Dunno if anyone heard Talksh*te yesterday, not a regular listener but my mate needed a hand collecting furniture so we had it on in the van. Goughy and the other guy (Adrian?) were on about how to fix Scottish Football. I didn't hear any of the calls they took but the first thing I said to my mate - scrap it all and start again, it couldn't get much worse could it?

Genuinely, how difficult can it be for all the clubs to join forces (with one obvious exception as this will no doubt also be boycotted) and resign from the SPL/SFL/SFA? They all joined forces when the fans spoke this time last year, surely fan power is the only way to drive change?

I'm not a fan of copying other countries, we're Scotland FFS, the country that brought the world TV, the refridgerator and deep fried confectionary.

Top to bottom we need a better set-up, people who love the game for what it is, jumpers for goalposts etc. get the kids on a diet of fresh air and running about with your shirt over your face after you scored against your mates (I was always Charlie Nicholas - didn't have the lush mullet like but I tried).

The problem we're always going to have is the people involved in any new set up are always either going to be "one of us" or "one of them" to certain people. This is killing our game peeps.

Make the choice - 5th/6th seed in every qualifying tournament for the next 20 years and just get on with it or scrap the lot and start again?

I bet some young uns on here don't even remember France '98 - I do but I wish I'd paid more attention now, I wasn't to know it was going to be the last time I saw us play in a tournament.

Can't really blame the SPL. Nota single player who played for Scotland last night plays in our league. 6 of them play in the best league in the world apparently. It may be our coaches, management and belief that's wrong but not the players. We are not going to win games with Aston Villa reserve players. I am 100% positive that if WGS had used SPL players like Johnny Russell etc we would have done better.

Agree0 Disagree0

We have many issues that stem from the wooden tops at the SFA/SPL/SFL etc. but we have to look at ourselves firstly. I have watched our local team for years, and seen some fantastic young kids from this team and other teams. They had vision, touch, skill everything you would think a scout would want, but because they 'urnae big enuff' they weren't picked up and lost interest in the game, never to be seen again. One scout even said that "as long as the kid was big, tall and strong they would teach him to play football" and he was Partick Thistle!
Look at the start of every SPL/SFL game in Scotland, the ball is kicked off, passed to the right or left back then humped up the park. That is what is being taught at professional level, so why are we surprised when we get humped in Europe? Final thought - will we ever see a Lionel Messi, Xavi, Iniesta type player in Scotland? Almost certainly Not, too wee!

Would anyone else like to see David marshall back in a celtic top if Forster goes in summer? Who wld be your preffered choice for our no1? Personally a don't rate Forster at all! Martibhoy

Believable14 Unbelievable27

You don't rate him at all!?!? For me, Ruddy, Butland, ter Stegen or Leno.

Agree0 Disagree0

How can you possibly not rate Forster?! That is just insane. Dopeydavey

Agree0 Disagree0

First off I really don't think Forster will leave this summer as I am sure he doesn't want to be a number 2 at a big club down south or a number 1 at a smaller club than he is already at! Forster for me has been one of our very best players this season!
on Marshall we should of never got rid of him in the first place he was is one of the best goalkeepers the club has ever produced I would love to see him back at Celtic fighting it out with Forster for the number 1 spot!

Agree0 Disagree1

I know big Forster has made some game-winning saves including penalties and I think he will get even better. But I have said on here a few times that for a Goalie of his stature he should command his area more and be more assertive at corners.
We have had umpteen defensive calamities in defence over the whole season and his difficulties with crosses and fumbling have been evident for even his biggest fans to see.
David Marshall is a great example of a player who made a huge impact (ironically in the Camp Nou) then came down to earth with a bump and prematurely punted instead of nurturing his talents.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

No way. 90mins against Barca will all Marshall will be remembered for. Seen him on telly for Cardiff and doesn't fill me with confidence. Saying that neither has big Fras since he came back from injury. Agree with JJ that for his size and build he should be dominating the area. Even last night at the second goal Marshall reminded me of Fras when he should have safely collected the ball in his own area. DH

Agree0 Disagree0

First Ledley, the Matthews and now Marshall. I expect you'll want Malky as well when Lennon departs,

I would take malky the now lennon keeps saying when we have a bad result they won't play again, then the next game his same old cronnies are picked. pmcfc

Gazcfc21 I couldn't have put it better myself. Feel a real affinity with Marshall. Reminds me a bit like Stewart Kerr unfortunately for different reasons Celtic career cut short but full of potential.

Aye right Marti lol, anyway here's a question, i'm trying to think of any player who was successful at a club and came back and was just as successful 2nd time around? Charlie done it the other way was p*** first time round came back and is superb. As for the other Charlie, genius first spell, mince when he came back. Stevie {Ed007's Note - It's not a CFC player but Mark Hughes leaving/returning to Man Utd is always one example I use when the subject comes up, Stevie.}

Thank f*ck none of you are part of our scouting system, all about opinions but get real big fraz is a top keeper & maybe one day malky may manage the hoops. lenny for me is the best man for the job & I hope will be here for many a year. HH AbS

Fair point ed, was Ian Rush not another one which reminds me of his famous quote " I couldn't settle in Italy it was like living in a foreign country" a classic. Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe Forster is nervous because of the donkeys in front of him!

Just watched miku come off the bench for venezuela and in his first 6 minutes on the park miss 3 absolute sitters. Twice bearing down on the goalie one on one. He is a diddy. If Colombia come back and get something from this game they will run him out of town lol

Believable7 Unbelievable3

He got away with it by the skin of his teeth. Awful finishing

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he's shown real glimpses of quality. Hasn't had a run at all though so the fact he still looks rusty doesn't surprise me. Doubt he'll stay anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have a certain amount of sympathy for him, I don't think he has been given much of a chance. We also have no one to find him when he peels off the defender.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has had more than enough chances to do something at Celtic including these delights.

80 mins St. Johnstone 2-1 defeat at perth (Average performance, some nice touches but missed opportunities. Still has to be classed as one of his better games though)

90 mins Kilmarnock 2-1 home defeat (He was simply awful, I attended the game so seen it first hand)

45 mins St. Johnstone 1-1 hone draw (Even worse this time, again I seen this one first hand. He was replaced by Tony Watt who scored within 6 minutes of coming on and done more work in the following 40 minutes than Miku had done in the previously mentioned 210)

90 mins Ross County 3-2 away defeat (Poor again and missed sitter before Stokes done the same. Would have put the game out of sight for us)

These are not all his performances but at a big club like Celtic seriously how many games/minutes can you give someone to shine? The main problem is when the ball isn't bouncing in his favour or his touch is off you get next to nothing in terms of work, fight or desire from him. No heart and no finishing instinct. He is not good enough, simple. He will go back to Getafe, flatter to deceive and never get another chance at a big club. Harsh but true.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's had no game time, hooper starting all the games was obvious. We have a guy on loan and a guy who wants away apparently. If they didn't play hooper his value, in terms of selling, would decrease.

They need to be able to say " he's a first team regular, bla, bla, bla" during negotiations. Personally, he can go anytime he wants, 13/14 spl goals is not irreplaceable and he's not kicked a ball since we rejected January bids. He scored 5 in last game of last season which obviously bumped up his stats.

Too many spells not scoring to be badly missed, other players to be had.

I would really like to see more of miku between now and end of season, thought he was good on the few occasions I have seen him in the hoops.
