I usually take the STV sports news with a pinch of salt as they usually have a biased and tainted view involving their Ibrox favourites but they have just reported that Sky will pull the plug on any TV deal if both 'Old Firm' clubs are not in the division(SPL) Surely this verges on illegal?
Is this more indirect pressure being applied to ensure Rangers get off scot-free or is it speculation from the unofficial tax-dodgers propoganda?

Jungle Jim {Ed007's Note - They are entitled to pull out of the deal but clubs would be due a high level of compensation from them. The fabled clause that was rumoured (demanding 4 derby matches a season) was never in existence as that would have been illegal and would have contravened the statutes of the game. Considering TV money makes up approximately 2% of CFC's income it really is insignificant. It could open up other avenues of broadcasting matches. CFC are the 10th largest club in Europe with regards to matchday revenue equalling £43.4 million. Why are STV reporting this and not Sly themselves? I wouldn't pay much attention to it yet.}

Believable10 Unbelievable7

The new deal has not been signed yet so compensation would be in the region of 0%as there would have been no contract to breach and if sky do go then sponsors start to walk {Ed007's Note - So what contract is the subject of the speculation? The deal will be signed and dated accordingly or do you think they wait until the day after the current one expires before signing the new one? Don't be so naive. This is just a regurgitated story to scaremonger people to allow any Rangers newco immediate entry to the SPL. A contract stipulating four derby matches is tantamount to match rigging, especially when you throw in that our league uses a split system, there is no way of guaranteeing both teams would be in the same section after the split unless something underhand is going on.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ofcourse sky can demand both OF are in the SPL. Why would they pay 80m if either or both weren't in it? Are you telling me that if Rangers were put in Div3 and Celtic went to England that SKY would still pay 80m? IMO the SPL wouldn't even get a tv deal if the old firm weren't in it.
Surely SKY have a right to say what they get for their 80m and I'm getting fed-up with this crap that the media have a hidden agenda and are all **** It's getting embarrassing!! {Ed007's Note - Sly CAN NOT stipulate what teams are in a league in their contract, it is illegal under the rules of the game. By your reckoning Sly could tell the EPL they won't be negotiating to renew the deal unless CFC and Rangers are members of the EPL. That can not happen either but is exactly the same thing, no TV deal is allowed to state or dictate what teams are in a league. What if Rangers get relegated if they receive any further points deduction, would relegation be scrapped on because of a TV deal, putting the whole integrity of the game up here under further scrutiny?}

Agree0 Disagree0

You can't blame sky if they did walk away, how many season tickets would be sold without the old firm games? Time you grew up and realise that banter aside the situation at Rangers effects all of scottish football. Doubt what I say? then why are you lot so excited about sundays game, admit it its the only thing that makes the mundane spl worth watching. As a Rangers fan I love watching Celtic games on sky, I admit mostly hoping you drop points but I can appreciate good football. This situation goes beyond banter I'm afraid, I don't want or expect your sympathy but for anyone to believe the league would benefit from Rangers exit, just before sundays kick off ask yourself this question, am I this excited by any other game of football? {Ed007's Note - I fail to see what 'growing up' has to do with anything. Your arrogance surrounding your club is astonishing. Look at the mess you have found yourselves in, yet you still harp on about the SPL needing Rangers. Maybe it is time you grew up and accepted your club caused all their problems themselves and should be punished accordingly, maybe it is time they faced it's responsibilities and paid what is owed instead of blaming everyone and peddling the arrogant attitude that has found them in their current mess. The rules of the game need to be enforced, no matter how big you think your club is, ask Juventus. The league would find it's level and all the other teams would learn a valuable lesson from Rangers mistakes, even the governing of the game would improve as there would be tighter scrutiny of club's finances so that no other team could pull the wool over everyone's eyes (including their own fans) or act in an illegal and inappropriate manner like Rangers have again.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting point ed007. Lets say your right for arguments sake. So no Rangers, no old firm. Why then is your chairman so worried about the other clubs meeting up this week, I will tell you why. The old firm has manufactured a situation to which the other clubs have no chance of competing, ask any fan outside the old firm and they will universally say we have both cheated the league for decades. Your chairman is relying on the administrators at my club voting with him next month as the ten other clubs will vote for change. Do you honestly believe any promoted club would vote with you AYE RIGHT. I again ask you to try and be honest when you answer my question, IS THERE ANY OTHER GAME IN THE SPL THAT GETS YOU AS EXCITED/NERVOUS/ELATED/DEFLATED AS THE OLD FIRM GAME. {Ed007's Note - No there isn't, but you can't just overlook the bigger picture for the sake of excitement or for a better collective financial situation. Justice must be seen to be done and then face any consequences. If Rangers go into liquidation the SPL will more than likely vote them straight re-entry into the SPL as a newco. Peter Lawell is doing what every chairman does, he is looking after the interest's of his club. I disagree with you saying CFC and Rangers have cheated the league for decades, CFC have spent within their means mostly in nearly 20 years, can Rangers say the same thing? The other clubs are only looking to maximise their income, at the current time it is is TV money and they want a better share, TV money hasn't been the main income at teams for decades. Better gates, sponsorship/ merchandise deals etc have kept both teams in front of all the others for a lot longer than TV money has.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Im not at all wishing to overlook the dreadful position my club is in please don't think that for one moment. I agree punishment is required for the disgraceful way the my club has been operated. But who should be punished? Me? You? Every supporter who just wants to enjoy the game and look forward to the excitement that old firm day gives us. I say NO WAY, the fans didn't cause this situation and I just don't believe the correct people will be punished. I know you will believe Rangers fans deserve it because we are rivals, I know you will look back at SDM rubbing your nose in the for every fiver rubbish and think this is suitable pay back. I know it because id feel the same if i was you. I just think if i was really honest id never want life without and old firm game. {Ed007's Note - No mate, I have never once blamed Rangers fans for the situation, I blame them for not listening to people who warned them about it and blamed them for believing it was all a 'Timmy' conspiracy etc and everything would be OK when it was obvious it wouldn't be. I actually feel sorry for fans like yourself who have accepted the situation and now just want some closure, ready to face what ever your punishment is and get on with it. I have never gloated over Rangers fans on here, wound them up yes but it is a such a serious situation that me gloating wouldn't be appropriate. I remember only too well when it was CFC in 1994. All I ask is for the punishment to fit the 'crime', Rangers to pay whatever they are found to owe to whomever and take their punishment. Only then can Rangers and Scottish football move on from it all. And if there is no Sly deal, who really gives a flying f**k? Rangers will be back as they are or under a newco banner and the status quo will return eventually, the league and it's members will cut their cloth accordingly and we will all move on.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Delighted this has prompted so much opinion but Celtic as a self sufficient and financially viable commodity must seek what is the best long term solution for themselves recent events have proved.

Jungle Jim

Agree0 Disagree0

The problem is to the chairmen of football clubs its a business, but to the fans its a way of life. You are proud of the financial stability Celtic have at present and rightly so, but come on lets be honest you will have sat with fellow supporters and berated your club for not spending big on a left back or striker or what ever us fans think would make our team better. See it was difficult to believe the situation was as dire as many made out. I can remember thinking things must be dreadful when Michael Ball had to pay from his own pocket to get a game, but then SDM would sanction a big money signing and the fans would think well things can't be that bad as a successful businessman such he is wouldn't be that stupid. Even more recently when it became more obvious what trouble we were in he sanctioned Jelavic. But football is a business and there are many businesses who fold and set up again with different names. Is it right probably not but it happens. Im yet to find a rich man who isn't tainted by dodgy deals. My point is if you want SDM punished or Craig Whyte or any other director who it can be proved acted illegally you will find no complaint from me. But I can't agree that it would teach anyone a lesson if we liquidate, set a newco and you guys can gloat we have no history. As I say mate why the hell should you and I not get to enjoy sunday and many more old firm games to come? {Ed007's Note - Of course I have moaned and whinged about players CFC need, that is all part of being a fan, no matter who you support. Fans are the last people money men at clubs think about, anyone who thinks different is far too naive. I Have said for years that if UEFA announced that the top two places in the SPL went straight into the CL it would be a disaster for Scottish football, the money men at both CFC and Rangers would be quite happy to serve up a mediocre product on the park knowing they had the pot of gold CL football brings. The SPL is stagnant as it is, there is the battle for the title, the mid table teams who accept a top six spot, and then there is just the desperation of just staying in the league, there is no room for mistakes. Fans are only seen as another source of income to clubs and how much money they can get out of you, they rely on our blind loyalty rather than our common sense to keep pouring our money into the club by any means they can come up with. It is unlikely that the people responsible for Rangers situation will have to face any personal penalties, charges or sanctions. The situation they have created should never have been allowed to happen, and sadly it is real fans like yourself who could end up paying the price (no pun intended) for their mess.}

Agree0 Disagree0

We better be careful or we might just end up agreeing or god forbid liking each other haha. Good to have a chat with you nice to see that there can be some common ground. I hope we are not liquidated or taken over by some rich knight!! (the media do talk some rubbish) I'd make SDM come back and pay up. Liquidation means problem solved for these guys and that's just not right. Anyway hope you get beat on Sunday. DA {Ed007's Note - LOL thanks DA, nothing wrong with a bit of civilised discussion mate. Decent Rangers fans are always welcome on here. I've enjoyed the blether rather than the usual pile of one liners that come in. Don't get too disheartened on Sunday, remember it's only a game ;-) AYE RIGHT THEN lol}

ed a question to you or anybody out there , who has an answer , could we walk away from the new sky deal and go it alone with celtic tv. mutv and liverpool have their own channels on sky/virgin . we used to have it when setanta were broadcasting in scotland . i know celtic tv is available on internet but not in this country , so could we get celtic tv back on tv and go it alone. i for one would cancel my sky/virgin sports and pay the money to us. billybhoy {Ed007's Note - One of the things the 'big' EPL clubs are looking at is streaming their games around the world themselves (probably on their own channel or website). The problem is that our TV deal has to be voted in by the SPL member clubs so it could prove difficult but not impossible when the current deal expires.}

Believable5 Unbelievable1

Will never happen because the other team would look for money to stream the game. {Ed007's Note - All the clubs would get an income from streamed matches.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I live in Hertfordshire and it breaks my heart paying for Sly sports to receive 20 mins of SPL on a Tuesday night at 2300.

If there was a proper Celtic TV as when Setanta ran, I would happily cancel my subscription.

Celtics Annual reports show a payment for £765000 for EBTs IN 2006 ooh dear MR Lawwell maybe Rangers fans have a point {Ed007's Note - For the last time, when Brian Quinn came in as Chairman he decided against using EBT's as they were not good business practise and were questionable. The EBT was cancelled and all monies owed were paid in full. There is no story here so there is no point. This is common knowledge.}

Believable16 Unbelievable5

Sounds like a wee blue bear upset that his teams going down the pan, and coming up with all the crap of the day. best one i heard was this saying Celtic plc started 1994 you loss the big cup and all the history before 1994..

Even if it was true , and 007 has just told you it's not , 750,000 is a hell of a drop from 75 million , and you my dilusioned, straw clutching friend are going to lose your team because of the amount you owe , but celtic will go on . billybhoy

Hi Ed, you must be bored saying this, in fact this clearly shows, that the astute Celtic board have the right people handling the finances of the club.
Perhaps Hector will or has used Celtic as a benchmark as to show things should be done.

All above board, all payment made, as soon as error was highlighted, the way it should be.

STRAW CLUTCHING/DEFLECTING ATTENTION

Apparently some Rangers fans have set up a "Celtictaxcase" (well they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery) Here are some of the "highlights"
Celtic are being "investigated by HMRC over under declaring gate/crowds at matches in 70's/80's" Celtic used "dodgy image rights" for certain
players which could mean millions of pounds not declared for tax purposes.
Not on this daft blog yet (but wait and it will be..) are that players like Larsson, Bellamy, Both Keane's etc.. were all beneficiaries of dodgy EBT or other non declared contracts..(I actually heard some Rangers fans talking about this) It seems the message has gone out let's tar everybody with what Rangers The only problem being our own RTC editor investigated properly, and has a paper trail, unlike this pale imitation which only has gossip..
Hail hail Timalloy {Ed007's Note - It is not even worth reading, I showed an English Ed it and his response was 'What a load of bollocks'. I think it is common knowledge that Dermot Desmond pulls the strings at CFC, how much research did he need to do to find that out? The 'author' is obviously the proverbial 'few sandwiches short'.}

Believable10 Unbelievable4

What are the Shame going to do. Get a tardis and travel back in time to count the crowd numbers. The really are a bunch of wallopers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Timalloy or Ed, you guys got a link? hopefully they have a comments bit, i fancy a wee looksie!

Love this under declaring crowds thing, so bloody funny, how many of us have sneaked into a game? by being lifted over a turnstile, doublink up in a turnstile etc etc etc, was standard practice in the 80's anyways and probably worse before hand! Jeez o! I dont think strwclutcluthing covers it dude!

Do these people have any idea of footballs history outwith their own? i mean really, i hate to bring it up but it was not untill hillsburgh before stadia were properly managed in terms of how many were getting in etc before that it was basically a free for all!

Some people eh?!

Evinguu
(sell the tv rights to Korea) think im gonna add that as a new tag line lol {Ed007's Note - Get your incontinence boxers on Evinguu mate, you are going to need them. The guy must be about 12.}

Funny feeling it could be Tommy on the wind up again ,raising their hopes a bit .....If we are going down so are you kind of mentality .... Cant see anyone been silly enough to post that as a serious blog ?.... TTTS {Ed007's Note - I thought it was a parody but nobody is taking the credit for it, even privately.}

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Sorry Evinguu, the link never went through:

Agree0 Disagree0

Iwent to paradise in the 60s and 70s, yes there was some amazing crowds 27,000 my guess then would be 40,000.If any bluenose thinks they didnt do the same its time to see a shrink.HH

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been to watch Falkirk a couple of times this season and the crowds are always exaggerated. My understanding is (atleast with Falkirk) that they take it as a given that all registered season ticket holders have attented the game so all they do is add the non season ticket sales onto that number to give you the attendance figures. Therefor they might give the attendance figures as 1500, when really only 1000 attented (as 500 season ticket holders didnt attend). I'm using Falkirk as an example here but i assume this goes on all over the country.

Gonna have to apologise to the cleaners tonight! this yellow puddle underneath my desk aint very nice, shudve got the pants like you mentioned first, serves me right for thinking i was a big bhoy and could take it. You did warn me Ed! lol

Agree0 Disagree0

ED007 can you stress that nobody should use their main email address as somebody informed me that it could be a way of "trolling" ie getting people's private information details, guys PLEASE BE CAREFUL! Timalloy {Ed007's Note - You should always use a secondary e-mail address for such sites.}

Agree0 Disagree0

An absolutely disgraceful unwarranted and shameful attempt to deflect attention from RFC . I hope Celtic find who is responsible for this nonsense and sue them for slander, libel, defamation or whatever is appropriate in the circumstances.

Agree0 Disagree0

There will be no point in suing these people. people this stupid are usually skint. let's face it, they really do believe they are superior in spite of all evidence to the contrary. makes 'em easy to laugh at. all of this was widely reported at the time. i remember reading in the manchester evening news that roy keane was having his wages paid by dermot desmond. as far as rangers are concerned if they were giving people money for reasons not connected to their job, what were these reasons ? i remember gascoigne saying on telly that they got fifty grand for being on the pitch in CL games. it should be easy to check how these sort of bonuses were paid so i'm sure the truth will come out whatever it is, wont it ?
