I know there is nothing the SFA can do to change it because it is a government issue, but players needing work permits to play in Britain restricts our transfer possibilities. Porto and Benfica sign young South American players for relatively low transfer fees on a regular basis. We can't do this because of the work permit situation. I mean how good would it be to have some exciting Brazilian flare on the Celtic Park pitch?

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Yeah that would be good from may to September but how would these flashy south Americans fair in minus 5 degree frost away to Inverness?! I think we should stick to the thick skinned weather prepared type of players!!

Agree1 Disagree0

I have been saying this for year mate. Its not the portugues leagues that is the problem. Ukraine, Romania, Scandinavia, cyprus to name a few leagues who have south american players. They're governments let them bring these players in and they're domestic leagues benefit, whether by enhancing they're teams chances in europe, by improving they're leagues or by they're teams making fortunes by selling them on for massive profits. And dont let anyone tell you they wouldnt succeed in our league because of the style of play, the weather or the pitches because if they can play in ukraine in winter conditions then they can play here.

It has bothered me for years. They would add excitement and interest to the SPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

One word Rafael.

Agree0 Disagree0

Flashy South Americans fare in minus 5, what you dont think they get a Winter in South America? This is half the problem with Scottish football, would rather have thick skinned hatchet men rather than watch someone who has flair and ability. If we coached our players to play that way then the stadiums would be full becasue people would be entertained. Do you remember watching JJ or Lubo, do you remeber the anticipation everytime Lubo got the ball, it was the same when Laudrup wa splaying. These players raise the expectations of the fans but it also makes other players raise their game as they want to be part of it. Maybe if we had more players who could keep the ball, pass it properly, play with their head up and have confidence in their ability then we would be in the CL every year and competing not just there for the money.

Agree0 Disagree0

Work permit laws are not as strict as some would have you believe. Jelavic got a work permit to play for Rangers even though he had only played around 5 times for his country by the age of 27.

Agree0 Disagree0

Man Utd seem to get round the work permit issues constantly.

Look at the Chilean they have just bought, no way on Earth he qualifies for a work permit, but because Man Utd bought him, he gets one.

Dazz {Ed007's Note - You can get a WP if the player qualifies as an 'Exceptional Talent', that is how we got one for Wanyama. If Man Utd can't get players a WP they send them to their partner club Royal Antwerp until the player meets the UK criteria.}

just read Guidetti scored 20 goals in 23 games for Feyenoord. Impressive! Hopefully get him on loan. Any chance?

Believable9 Unbelievable10

He's negotiating a new deal with City but they want to send him out on loan, ideally to a CL side, so Celtic might fit the bill. They are interested though.

Hearing we have 5 players lined up in we make it to the champions league these are.

CB - Selvi Ottesen
CM - Markus Hendrikson
Wing - Gary McKay-Stevens
Fwd - Johnny Russell
CF - John Guidetti (1 yr loan)

Still few players to leave also

Ki, McCourt, Murphy, Bangura

Believable13 Unbelievable20

Murphy is out for 1 month, no one will buy him, unless celtic release him. Roque Santa Cruz is available from man city.

Agree0 Disagree0

Solvi ottesen ? same as big Dan, no thanks
hendrikson worth a punt if the price is rite
stevens great prospect
russell , better than stokes??
guidetti, what has he done ?
Hard to know

Agree0 Disagree0

We already have good young players in the team, so we wont be bringing in gary mckay stevens or russell. Guidetti will stay in the EPL and ottesen isnt the type of CB we ar after.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we wont russlle and mcaky steven? they wont do anygood in the cl

Agree0 Disagree0

Dundee Utd won't sell Russell or McKay-Steven on the cheap, especially not to us. So no way they will be joining us this season.

I would like to get Guidetti though, better option than Rhodes IMAO.

Maths isn't my strong point but think of this....

Celtic spend nearly 10m on a new squad 3 years ago

From that 10m we have sold 1 player and getting 6.3m back plus sell on etc

No bad business considering we haven't had the Cl money in 4 years

He does rob the fans a bit and only comes out for a pr stunt but like it or not lawwell deserves the respect. I along with the rest of the fans want a signing or two in the places however lawwell has kept our accounts in good order considering how rangers went

Lenny

Ps lawwell is still a bawbag lol

Believable13 Unbelievable8

Lawell is magic at his job , why have aresnal & liverpoll tried to steal him

Agree0 Disagree0

What year did we sell mcgeady 9 mill and we hardly touched that.

The wost mistake cfc made in recent years was the transfer windae when we got all the LOANS including keane THATS WHY I HATE LOANS NO CLUB SHOULD HAVE MORE THAN 1 AT ANY TIME .......jimthetim...

OK Ki money clears debt, we have reduced wages so we should not be making more debt which was obviously what has been happening (since debt was less than a million not too long ago). A defender, the boy henrikson if we can get him to turn a profit like we are doing with all our other players. A target man as well would be good, if not Russell for another striker. I would get a loan instead of buying; lets save the money for good scouting of young talent. Porto won a European cup this way and its how we could contest at this level. Forget wage rises for players our scouts have done fantastic recently lets not change tactics to get one big name, lets mould big names and players on a lower wage are not Pre-Madonnas like the prem league. This is just the beginning.

Believable6 Unbelievable11

The Ki 'money' doesn't clear the debt. Transfer fees are paid in installments usually over 2 - 3 years. We won't get a 6M lump sum as everyone presumes - that is what NL meant by 'servicing the debt' - it will cover any more interest - it will not wipe it out. Any Champions League money is not paid till next year.
The only signings we will make will be dependant on age and resale value. I can see Henricksen as a legitimate target. We will not pay for Rhodes.
It would not surprise me if we spent NO money at all....................kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

Ps
I'm sure you meant Prima-donnas as in the Latin for being centre of attention, number 1..........and not Pre-madonnas as in the pop star, which would be any female pop star Pre-madonna!......................kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

To kbt1978 why would they not offer money for rhodes as,according to you, no one pays the full amount up front and should they make the cl they would have sufficient funds to cover the purchase

Agree0 Disagree0

Re: The man with no name:
IMO we would need to break our transfer record to sign him.
A transfer record set with the signing of John Hartson for 6M - over 10 years ago.
We have never came close to spending near that money since. We built a whole team for 10M.
I simply cannot see Celtic spending 7M.
(and fees are generally in installments. why do you think Rangers owed Hearts and Rapid Vienna especially for a player they 'bought' 18 months before?)..............kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps Rangers were a bad example!
there is bank debt and football debt - ie monies owed to clubs for transfer fees of players that have been bought...........kbt1978

Did anyone else notice Forster using his left peg at a couple of goal kicks? My point is his kicking has improved tremendously as has his confidence with his feet.

I think a gauge of his improvement was shown last night, I mean the big man played the best pass of the evening, 60 yards to Forrest and the wee man was in. compare that to a kick out in his old firm debut two years ago.

Keep it up big man and you'll get capped.

We've paid two million for him and this is his third season- thinking about it like this it seems a very very good deal for us.

Jamie Mac

Believable11 Unbelievable3

I noticed it also. fair play to FF as he took some stick and has came back to be awesome.

Let's hope we keep him well into his prime as he'll only get better, or could this be another of lenny's get em young and sell at profit players in a year or 2?

Nobody else find it amusing that south of the border they see the spl and celtic/rangers as a joke but now there are two epl sides (qpr and Swansea) who are both after a player who wasn't really in celtic's starting 11. Think he only started about 30 games out of the 54 competitive games we had last season. compare that to Joe Ledley who had 50 starts and you see what I mean.

McLaughlin180

Believable15 Unbelievable1

Hes was injured for a good part of last year a Ledley wasnt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ledley is a far better player than Ki. Ki wouldn't be in at least half the fans starting 11. He is good but for me; he isn't tough enough and vanishes in games. It will be interesting to see how he does in the Premiership. Although, lets not kid ourselves Swansea and QPR are hardly "big" team

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he would have started every game anyway. Midfield would have always been wanyama, brown, kayal, sami and forrest

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, i have a full army of English in laws and we share a lot of good old banter. They do like to point out on occassions the SPL is like league 2 standard. Here's my point Caldwell, Maloney, Hooiveld, Fox to name a few. Not one of them could cut it at Celtic yet they play nearly everyweek in EPL. Charlie Adam couldn't cut it up here, a good season or two in an overhyped league and he's worth 8 million .

Although very exciting and obviously full of talent, their leagues not quite as strong as they think and is unbelievably overpriced. If Joe Allans worth 15 million then Ki's worth 20million and Wanyama 30million

Ki has 'in principle' agreed to sign for Swansea, on a website but he in south Korea just now and deal to be done in next 48 hrs said by Swansea chairmen.

Good bit of business in my opinion never really took off in the spl, done well in some games but was missing in others, good player but over £3 million profit isn't bad work tbh.

Fraser Forster might just turn out to be the signing of the season, 2mil and the big man looks to be getting us that elusive champions league money. Its great to finally have a big solid goalkeeper, especially for the european away/home matches. For all the great Marty O'Neill done for us, he never had a good keeper and that cost us in europe. The big man just gets better and better.

Look, James McFadden has been training all summer. His knee is repaired. He and Kenny Miller are our strikers for Scotland. We're paying a wage for Bangura and he's never scored a goal for us. We've just saved £5m a year in salaries, James is hungry, he's Celtic through and through, the squad needs bumped up for our domestic and Euro challenges ahead. McFadden wouldn't let anyone down, come on Neil give the lad a call.

Believable24 Unbelievable22

Sounds like James McFadden is a fan of this website!...

RossBhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

He did last season! We gave him facilities and made him an offer. He's that much of a Celtic fan he went back to Everton. Mcfaddens boat has sailed in my opinion. Cheekybhoy

James thank you for your post, be honest your knees have gone just like your credibility as a Celtic fan. Sopot Celt

Is that you James? Lol f.s

Agree0 Disagree0

Look james you had your chance. As for Miller AND Mcfadden for Scotland ,if true say cheerio to rio.Fletcher and Rhodes and it might be, copacopacaba......jimthetim....

Agree1 Disagree0

Forget mcfadden he is finished we r looking for quality now not quantity he had his chance last time and went back to everton for a second time and what happened not good enough think celtic think quality johnny russell now we r talking this guy is quality and would become even better at the team he loves

Agree0 Disagree0

NO CHANCE! Don't touch him well past sell by date and had plenty of opportunities to come to Celtic and knocked us back and now he wants to join when he's sh1te!

Agree0 Disagree1

After he said no to us last season I wouldn't want him anymore let the rangers sign him

Agree0 Disagree0

He could have came last season and turned us down, had his chance. I dont want to see him in a celtic shirt

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with all the previous posts, he doesnt deserve another offer to come to Celtic, some players who support the club never get the opportunity to play for they're hero's, this guy has had 2 or 3 chances now. What everyone seems to be ignoring is he isnt even the type of player we need. He is not a striker. Chase yourself James

Agree0 Disagree0

I think you could have something there. This will sound crazy but the guys had 8 seasons in the SPL playing the top clubs in the world. 29 ain't ancient, kenny millers older. He'd score in the SPL whilst we rest our guys between euro games. He might even increase in value!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm the OP and I'm certainly not James McFadden or a relative or friend. Never met the guy. ok so he's had offers. Ki can stay or go to Swansea so it's fine for him to go....McFadden had Everton or Celtic and chose Everton, there should be no hard feelings there. Almost all our team would walk to Everton tomorrow if they received offers. I think this guy could be a gift horse for the SPL. He scored about 35 goals for Motherwell in 70 games without the midfield support he'd get at Celtic. What a goal in Paris against the European and world champions. World class, nobody had beaten France in years.

Agree0 Disagree1

James, you are Embarrasing yourself now buddy. We all know it's you who is the OP. I am sure you would score a goal or 2 for us but so would I given the midfield support, work rate of spammy the tranny out wide and great set piece takers we have. Yeah you scored a belter against the other team to cheat and play in les Blue (for once I find it hilarious to mention cheat and not mean rankers lol), nobody can take that out your locker but you are simpy not good enough for the hoops. Do you think you would get a game when the likes of Ki can be sold, Derry Pele canny get any playing time, Stokes bangs them in but hardly plays? I know all different positions but shows just how far our team has progressed since we wanted you a wee while ago.

In all honesty, The Newly formed down the way (and divisions) are always on the lookout for dried out, washed up has beens so maybe you can call fat Sally and see if you can squeeze a contract out of him before embargo day. His number is +441888 CFC UCL. All the best for the future Jimmy. There's always McDonalds Unofficial sponsors of Sally's wardrobe.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just remember he is still a free agent... we should be asking why!! Because he needs to prove he can maintain a decent form of fitness.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wouldnt touch him with a barge pole if i was lenny. had his chances and chose everton then birmingham (whilst in the championship) then everton again.
any player should find it a privilege to be asked to sign for the mighty hoops, but 3 times and knocked us back? yer not as good as ye think ye are wee man and we defo dont need you. just be another expensive flop like ljunberg.
as for the guy bein a celtic fan, he shunned us and went for the money. so in short faddy, go ply yer mercenary trade elsewhere
frankiebhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Mcfadden had his chance last year n chose the everton bench so he cin gtf end of

gunniebhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

C'mon now OP, at least check your facts, France weren't even Euro champs when we beat them never mind world champs (that was 1998 we beat them in 2007). Don't know if he can stay injury free these days and to be honest not really the type of signing that would frighten any potential CL opponents.

Agree0 Disagree1

You mite get a run out for a certain team in third divvy jaimsey LOL

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember not so long ago mcfadden saying he wouldn,t go anywhere near glasgow with the baggage the old firm carry celtic dont need you and i dont want you and with the response to the post neither do most fans.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mcfadden has never been good enough even when fit, a bit part player who scores or does the odd spectacular goal/ move.

MurphyBhoy

Believable19 Unbelievable8

He should be in the squad. Looks better than Buttland. He's no Joe Hart though and may be second to Ruddy, but should certainly be in a squad.

MurphyBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

England did not have a quality left sided player for years while Alan Thompson was having great performances in champions league and they still didn't call him.up. I do not expect anything to change and Fraser will not get called up

Agree0 Disagree0

One decent game doesn't make a great player of international quality. I think he will have to be more consistent and prove his worth past more than one game to deserve a call up or catch anyone's eye on the international scene?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Thompson was capped mate just the once tho!

Jamie Mac

Agree0 Disagree0

One performance doesn't make international class. Jack Buttland had a half season loan with Cheltenham town in League 2 and got a call upt to the olympics and the England side. Bearing in mind he had at least one howler in the olympics. The English have a serious problem with our league, but that's thier problem and they should remember most of the great sides were built on the backs of Scot's

There unsettled centre half Gabriel

We were interested a few years ago
But he seems experienced and the
Lure of the group stages is supposedly
Attracting him, a fee of 1.3m has been
Flying about but who knows,
Ciani or tamas will come in, henriksen
For 2.7 to 3.3m and a striker also,
Close contact at parkhead says Rhodes
Is a no go but I hope they pull out all
The stops, Joseph akpala or marc
Janko are the other options.

Without getting too carried away and being honest, I would like to think PL and NL are doing the spade work on the new signings this morning. I know the job is only half done, but in all honesty I don't see them turning this around now. I said last night that the buzz was kicking in and I would like a 2 goal cushion to take home to Paradise and thats exactly what we got. I have to admit, when big Sutton said they hadn't lost at home in 2 years, my heart sank a bit, but after watching the game I feel comfortable that we will see this out. We caused our own problems last night, too many not getting back from set pieces and too many not clearing their lines, but after half time would got more and more into the game and at Paradise we should score no problems and there is no way they will then score 4. So on that note, I want to congratulate the bhoys and the management team and hope the board do back them for their efforts. HH Kipemerald

have it on good authority (from a close friend of the late Tommy Burns) that Celtic have now bid £2.2 million for Markus Henriksen. No word yet on whether it has been accepted/rejected.

Ed a question, been hearing qpr might be hyjacking the ki bid but some say because the fee is already agreed that we ccant get more money then what was agreed, is this true? And is there any truth in that there might be a bidding war btw clubs? {Ed007's Note - Until any deal is signed anything can happen and it is actually Swansea that are hijacking QPR's deal. If for example QPR raise their bid to £8 million, CFC can easily stop Ki talking to Swansea right away. For a deal to be concluded all parties must be in agreement.}
