Sources at Burnley have suggested Austin's head has been turned by Celtic interest and wants to make happen ... A clever ploy by Celtic to sell Hooper without too much supporter uproar ?...my suggestion is Celtic want to sell as know they have won the SPL and feel for 2 CL games it is not worth watching his value slide towards contract end.

Sources in my lounge suggest you are running this up the flag pole expecting us to salute it. Guess work............green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

Scottish agent has anything youve ever said came true?

Agree0 Disagree0

Guess work GreenJhedi ?....check my last few posts that broke before media got them .Gary Hooper wants a contract like Ledley and Samaras and Brown. Celtic refused that what does that tell you ?...that they want to keep him? .......you have more CL money and money from sales...its there but they don't want to give it.
ScottishAgent {Ed007's Note - Give your head a wobble mate, you are about eight months behind me on this one. Your trolling is starting to annoy me now as well.

Scunny have a 20% sell on clause with Hooper on all profit from his sale. So I don't really think selling for 7m would provide a decent enough return to warrant selling. Considering his goals tally up here Celtic would only be looking at like 3.5m profit which I think is shocking. Intrest from various clubs in EPL will hopefully push price up past 8m mark but I am pessimistic....

Jaiza1888 {Ed007's Note - It is a 10% sell on clause.}

Believable1 Unbelievable7

Perfect example of people swallowing what the The rangers media put out.As far as I know ED is right it was always a 10% deal...........green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm embarrassed for any Celtic can who even bothers going on rangers media. Full of hate and bile, absolute insult to your intelligence responding to, or even conversing with the punters on there. And I don't mean all Rangers fans! I have some close mates, big Rangers fans and the sh*te on there is an insult to them and the other good Rangers fans. F*ck Rangers Media!

Agree0 Disagree0

10% of 7 million is 700,000 20% 1.4million who came up with 3.5 million some people just can't count

Agree0 Disagree0

Its 10% of profit so it would be 500k if we sold for 7m

Agree0 Disagree0

2m to buy him, 20% of 7m is 1.4m so that overall is approx 3.5m profit. Read the post correctly and you will see the counting is not bad after all

Hail hail
ChrisBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard on the tranny last night it was a 20% sell on clause.
and this whole thing with austin
surely we don't gain anything from this
lock gary hooper in the dressing room after matches and let him out only on game days {Ed007's Note - It's only 10% buddy.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Dont forget his upkeep wile he's been here, half a million per year ? take that off your profit .. shammy

Ed how do you know its only a 10% sell on clause??

2nd bid WAS rejected today by Celtic 6m was todays bid by Norwich. 1 other team has entered the fray expect him to go.
ScottishAgent

Believable5 Unbelievable5

Find it hard to believe that hooper will leave for any club that's at risk of being relegated from EPL . Chances are whatever wages are on offer would be dependant on whoever he joins being in EPL and would be cut significantly if they wern't. He could end up back in the championship on less cash than was on offer at celtic and he missed CL last 16. I hope his agent has pointed that out to him !

ScottishAgent

You come up with a different story every day! One of these days you will get lucky and actually be correct!

Neil Lennon has confirmed there has been no further bids for Hooper since the £5M bid by Norwich(I think I will believe Lennon on that one)

Ed - Do you know if Celtic have actually offered Hooper a contract that would take him up along with the top earners of the club! If they haven't questions must be asked! {Ed007's Note - He has been offered a contract in the top bracket of £20k -25k p.w. I just assumed it would have been double his current £12k p.w.
After everything that has happened, and been said, since the summer I find it strange that now it seems to be about money, I can still smell a desperate agent behind all this.}

The tone of some posts and the alleged quotes from various sources would suggest Hooper will go?
If we lose him to Norwich then it asks a lot of questions about Hoopers' ambitions and priorities.
It also suggests that no matter how big a club Celtic are and how well we are respected in Europe; it highlights the poor reputation the SPL has - no matter how many re-constructions and shuffles and re-branding they conjure up every few years.
I remember when I was young how shocked I was at stars like of Macari, Hay, Dalglish and Nicholas wanting to leave The Celtic for fame and fortune as they went to 'big English clubs'.
But no disrespect to Hooper, he is not an Internationalist and he is linked with Norwich!
The EPL is so over-hyped and the standard out-with the top 7 or 8 is definitely 'mutton dressed as lamb' with small stadia and zero reputation or class.
I hope he stays as he seems happy on the pitch, but maybe we should look at other 'avenues' in the future to stop players using Scotland as a half - way - house?

Jungle Jim

Believable9 Unbelievable4

I think they're just looking at a few potential strikers just incase Hooper leaves, better to check players out now while Hooper's future is unsure rather then wait until he's left then start looking at players.

Agree1 Disagree0

Unfortunately the premier league is the most exciting league in the world you regually see bottom teams beating so called top teams like qpr beating chelsea last week, its where any player with ambition wants to be

Agree0 Disagree3

The fact of the matter is mate that hooper thinks he has a better chance of getting in england squad playing in epl. That and the fact celtic have offered him £25000 a week to stay and because of tv money a team of norwich can offer him £40000 a week to go. I personally think he should sign new contract stay for another year and he would get england call up and bigger move to a top 6 epl club not relegation strugglers.

Skinnybhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Well I think it is not so much the reputation of scottish football but more to do with modern day footballers. Not all but most of them only care about the money. For me sly and football agents are destroying the game. Look at Larsson was getting enough money to live a good life and was happy with that.

Agree0 Disagree0

JJ

Think we Celtic fans have to be realistic. Long gone are the days of players wanting to stay at Celtic for ever - King Henrik was a rare one off.

Gary Hooper like many other players only came to Celtic to prove they can play at a high level. Yes Norwich are a small club in terms of size and history compared to Celtic - but with the money at there disposal they make Celtic look like the small club.

We are having a great season - making good money from Europe, as usual the great Celtic support contribute immensely and as far as singings go we have had nothing but garbage.

Miku, Lassad are not in the class of Stokes and Watt and at this moment in time neither of them are particularly great. This window we get a reserve defender from Liege on loan, an unknown player from Australia - who I hope can be the Lubo/Naka type player with that added work rate.

Yes the EPL is over-rated as I have said many times before - however in terms of league stature, Scotland is fast becoming Third World poor.

Kev T

Agree0 Disagree0

My point was most modern day footballers only care about the money. Not all players though Scott Brown and Joe Ledley would not leav us for a bottom EPL team infact Broony would not leave at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have we all forgotten that Sammi left Man City for us and took a big pay CUT to come. And also in amongst this no-one has even remotely suggested that Hooper wants to leave, least of all the player himself !

Just seen on norwich site £6.5 and Morrison for hooper. Said its been accepted surely not. 1st time on site ed keep up the good work

Believable5 Unbelievable15

That won't be true, I think we'd want more than £6.5m and I definitely don't want Steve Morison!

Agree2 Disagree0

Won't be true, Morrison is not good enough for Celtic

Think this is utter nonsense - the Norwich website makes no mention of Gary Hooper

Mjallby on Charlie Austin if Hooper leaves, "Yes, he might be on the shortlist, " Mjallby said of Austin. "Charlie is a proven goalscorer and obviously he might come in handy in the future.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

I can't see this being any more that a smokescreen. IMO Celtic are not and should not be in the business of buying players for inflated prices like 6 or 7 million quid. Which is precisely what Burnley will demand for Austin.... and no doubt they will get it with various EPL teams looking at him considering his awesome performances for a mediocre team.

Jaiza1888

Agree0 Disagree0

If we get 8m for hooper then what would be wrong withs spending 6m on a suitable replacement. Hooper and austin are pretty similar in style so he would be a good buy. Spending 6-7m on a player is not going to us any harm when we are still making a profit. don't forget how many dud strikers we have bought for similar price to hooper...rasmussan, bangura, miku etc. I have faith in our scouting system but for every hooper we have bought we have signed 3 banguras

He has played for Celtic and Getafe this season so can't play for another club - he could only go back to Getafe or stay with us. Darylbhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

I see miku leaving but don't see any of they twon coming in....chivas have said agudelo isn't for sale, as for russell I don't see celtic paying the 2mil that dundee utd would want for him, cause I'm sure that was the asking price in summer and no-one met it, I think he would be a snip at 2mil...think of fletcher that's a player we defo missed out on...don't let it happen again!

Agree0 Disagree0

No point having a striker who is not cutting the mustard and homesick, his wages could pay johnny russell and am sure if we spent a million odd with youth players going to united on loan we could get a striker how could do really well in a celtic strip

Just reading again that Arsenal are apparently plotting a move for Wanyama, thye are looking to 'add steel to complement creativity'. Although I can't see any benefit at all this window with him being CL cup tied. Of course he may help in their push for a top 4 place.

Celtic also looking at Burnely's 23 yr old Charlie Austin who has scored 23 times in 27 games this season ~ Mrs E

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Would love to see a clear out of our strikers minus Tony Watt tbh, with Hooper's departure pretty much sealed best solution would be to bring in a few younger players such as Charlie Austin, Jonny russell and maybe the American guy Juan Agudelo. Think they would all really benefit the team and would defo's score goals for us as they progress quickly.

Celtic reject second bid from Norwich for Gary hooper according to sly spurts says mjallby said the bid wasn't good enough
Hoopybhoy

Believable4 Unbelievable5

He was talking about their initial bid of £5mil that was rejected.

Terrible Beauty

Agree1 Disagree0

Norwich haven't put in a 2nd bid yet, big dolph was speaking of the first bid...they do expect another bid but not the asking price, but could just cash in on hooper the now and go for austin like reported on the news.

£7m rising to £10m if they stay up is the latest talk. With that extra £3m not being guaranteed though I can't see this being accepted.

ED how much do you reckon it would cost to bring Johnny Russell to Parkhead? He has hit form at the wrong time for interested clubs with his goals but surely Steven Thompson would bite Celtic's hand off for £1.5m? He may not be CL standard right now but he could definitely do a job once Hooper leaves, whether it be January for £7-8m or summer for £4-5m. Russell would be a good addition with essentialy 5 months to bed him in in the SPL without much risk. Throw in Mackay-Steven for £2.5m plus add-ons for the pair and it's a good deal for Celtic with minimum £1.5 net profit with these deals and 2 of Scotland's best prospects.

G93 {Ed007's Note - I don't know how much Dundee Utd value them at but their departure seems to have been a factor in Houston's decision to leave.}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

They are two players I'd love to see in the hoops before anyone....good young scottish talents...russell is defo good enough for celtic, people question his ability at CL level but ud have to put those question marks beside anyone we sign, we are after all unearthing gems...so no-one is proven at that level. Russell would bang goals in for fun at CP, he's doing it for dundee utd right now...we need to stop bringing in unproven guys to the spl and go with proven spl goalscorers and the only one I feel has the ability to be a celtic striker is russell. We have brought in bangura (unproven) and miku has done hee haw in his time here...time to put up a bit of paper and sign these 2 as I feel thy would drastically improve our team, and russell is ready to get thrown into the team just now, no need to bed him in to get used to the spl....that's an excuse I can't be doing with, if that is ever the case why are the brought in?

Norwich have increased there bid for Gary Hooper to £7million. If I'm not mistaken the asking price is £8million and I'm pretty sure Norwich know that.

Believable8 Unbelievable3

I think the board would take £7m, I wouldn't but I love Celtic not cash

hooper not leaving for less than £8m, more worryingly Arsenal back on rader for big vic ... just when the last 8 was there for us ..

If hooper does go this transfer window, there's an ideal replacement in Charlie Austin! younger, better goals/game ration than hooper and arguably a better finisher. Could we afford him ed? What do you all think about Charlie being an ideal replacement? {Ed007's Note - He has been looked at as a replacement for Hooper but the fee being mentioned is £6-8 million. That could could, and should IMO, come down before the summer.}

Ed do Celtic have an interest in Adam Le Fondre of Reading?

MikeyBhoy88 {Ed007's Note - Yes.}

Believable3 Unbelievable8

What sort of price would he command now he`s playing Premiership football? I know we were after ALF before but I presume his price will have doubled at least? Keir {Ed007's Note - If his price has doubled then depending who you believe his fee would be somewhere in between £600k up to £1.2 million max (the fee Reading paid was undisclosed but is between £300k and £600k). He would come back into the equation if Reading are relegated this season.}|
