we really need the board to back lennon and spend the money on a decent striker. with a good record. I dont think selling hooper is a wise move and the board need to stay strong on this one. wait to the summer and i think we could get £7 to £12 mill for him.
although dont want him to go anywhere.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I agree. A strong striker up front wouldn't go amiss and to be fair I fully expect Celtic to bring one in as Lennon's said as much. I struggle to see what we'd do should one of Stokes or Hooper get injured, and let's not forget even Samaras who'd probably play there should that happen has an injury history.

As for Hooper 12M is probably pushing it but valuations aside he is an important player and we really need to keep our strikers. The summer is a far better time to do business should we choose to let clubs speak to him.

Agree2 Disagree0

12 mil for hooper is absolutley outrageous! I like him but get real. He'll go fo just over half that in the summer. How can any1 possible justify that for a player playing in the spl.

Agree4 Disagree6

The standard of the league doesnt change the standard of the player my friend. Henrik Larsson could have been sold for £20M+. And yes, for 7 years he graced the SPL. Shocking, isnt it!

Agree7 Disagree0

There is no doubt that Larsson was God but if u think any1 wud have payed 20 mil 4 him ur havin a laugh. The SPL is an extremely poor league and teams take that in2 acount when bidding for a player. Larsson proved he cud do it in europe aswell and after he left Celtic. There is not a player i the SPL who wud go for more than 8 mil. Including Izaguirre and Jelavic.

Agree0 Disagree7

Can't believe someone is putting Larrson and hooper in same sentence, how many assists has hooper had this season? {Ed007's Note - Five.}

Agree3 Disagree1

GH is a very good player. He has improved out of sight as a link man and with his back to goal in the last 4 or 5 months. He always was a goal scorer and to call him a poacher as he is still called is now not accurate. He has added much to his game since joining us. This indicates he learns quickly and he works hard. Very good attributes for any player but particularly for a striker. Ed keeps saying he is worth what someone will pay and I agree. (Hate to say it but Ed is very astute and how he puts up with some of the nonsense on the site I will never know) Look at Petrov a very good player from our Pi5hy league ( I actually think we are better than many pundits suggest) and he went for what (9m in total?) I was pretty pleased with that news. Just an observation but dont you all think that we get far too concerned with what we will get for a player, yes the more we get is good but I am a lot more concerned with how much is paid out for a player because the board has a much greater degree of control with that ! I have to say NL is doing a great job and Mr Brown our captain who I have supported strongly is showing the supposed fans what being a true man and Celtic Captain is about. Well done too to FF again far too many ready to attack our players under the cloak of "my opinion" but thats only my opinion...

Agree3 Disagree0

12m for hooper, a wee bit optimistic. Then I watch andy Carroll and I think anything is possible!

Agree3 Disagree0

Thae dark side got more than 8 mil for an average player in hutton. We dont have to sell so hooper is goin nowhere for less than that. In england they pay over inflated prices for everyone just look at Carrol, Torres, Bent... The list goes on!!

Agree2 Disagree0

Monaco offered £5m for Henrik when he only had half a year left on his deal. Give Hooper £20,000-£25,000 a week the now on a long term deal and if teams want him we can state the price we want.

Agree2 Disagree0

Was it Man Utd or LiverFOOL that were prepared to offer us 15mil for The King of Kings? {Ed007's Note - Man Utd were reported to have bid £15 million for Larsson in 2000. When asked about it at the time Henke said 'I don't need to move. Why would I have to move? Everything here is geared for success.'}

Agree2 Disagree0

Did juventus not offer 12 million for Henrik ? I might be wrong, also turned down man utd, think it was around 1997, and if a young henrik came to the spl he would be well worth 20 million in anybodys money,
Also we are now in a position we dont have to sell players, we have players we need to loan out and move on rather than selling out better players, Keir

Agree2 Disagree0

Ed if we win the league do we go straight into CL groupstage or do we have t qualify

Celticthomas {Ed007's Note - Both first and second place teams go into the CL at the third qualifying round next season.}

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Champions pot and a second placed pot also, probs make no difference tho!?

Agree1 Disagree1

That will be us and one of three from Hearts/St Johnstone/Motherwell then Ed lol

Bhaldrick {Ed007's Note - It could actually be that mate.}

Agree3 Disagree0

Ed
it will be as they might have a licence problem with Uefa

Bhaldrick {Ed007's Note - Exactly.}

Agree1 Disagree0

No mights bhaldrick,no accounts signed off n submitted to SFA. wonderfull! green jhedi

Agree2 Disagree0

What's your knowledge of applying for the licence then Ed?
is it re-apply every year by a certain time .ive seen you post about accounts in lieu of getting a licence.
how soon would a club be informed that no licence will be granted to them? as the Sion debacle took months for Uefa to sort out

Bhaldrick {Ed007's Note - The SFA should not allow Rangers to even apply for a Euro licence under the terms of UEFA statues (laws). It is there in black and white for anyone to see and surely the administrators of our game know the rules of the game, or you would like to think so. If Rangers had submitted accounts that were accurate (31st December 2010) and it reached UEFA they would deny a licence (the tax issues alone are enough for the licence not to be granted). For next season they have failed to produce signed off accounts as of 31st December 2011:

“The licence applicant (Rangers, in this instance) must prove that as at 31 December of the year preceding the season to be licensed it has no payables overdue towards its employees as well as social and tax authorities in respect of contractual and legal obligations with its employees.”

Applicant clubs must also, “prepare and submit future financial information which is based on assumptions about events that may occur in the future and possible actions by the management of the reporting entity.

“The future financial information must include a brief description of each of the significant assumptions (by reference to the relevant aspects of historic financial and other information) that have been used to prepare the budgeted profit and loss account and cash flow statement, and also briefly describe the key risks that may affect the future financial results.”

Agree1 Disagree0

Might need to discount Hearts Ed
as mad vald's accounts might be a bit risky to

and looking at the state of the rest of the clubs accounts Ayr United might be in with a chance of champions league lol

Bhaldrick {Ed007's Note - Get Accies in it lol.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ed ,
Given UEFAs law that you have laid out should it not have been the case that Rankers should not have been in Europe this season ? Also do the SFA/SPL not have criteria to fill here and some blame to take for filing the aplication ?
CelticMatt {Ed007's Note - It is questionable whether Rangers should have been granted a licence this season. Stewart Regan has said that Rangers tax bill(s) had not crystallised so it was fine to grant Rangers their Euro licence for this season. For a tax bill to crystallise one of two things must happen

A) The recipient of the tax assessment agrees with HMRC that the amount is owed.
B) A FTT tribunal finds in HMRC favour.

With the prior acceptance of the 'wee tax bill' (£2.8 million) by the previous and current owner this surely crystallises at least one of the bills. It is the date of this crystallisation that is leading to confusion and whether Rangers should have been granted a licence for this season.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Why don't you all concentrate on your own team? {Ed007's Note - Because it is just TOO funny to ignore the shambles that is Rangers. We are all suffering from schadenfreude.}

Agree2 Disagree1

21 Jan 2012 22:19:30
we must push on from here.a quality striker still needed.if we win league this season,for me will be the best yet after points deficit of 15 points but lets go get that treble

Real Madrid have picked up on Wanyama's performances. I expect a 2-3 year scouting program on him. fact they where at parkhead v r*ngers

Believable7 Unbelievable16

Away and boil yer heid.

I'm glad that the hoops have about a dozen or more players worth decent money, but getting fed up with the January transfer window!! Celtic are considering a very generous bid from Sunderland for hopper?! Billy sharp to replace hooper in paradise?! Roll on the 1st of feb, only fringe player to leave please......

Sign big forster up i say, i think last year he was maybe unaware of the size of club he was comin too, now i think the big man is starting to get comfy in his slippers...could be there for years if he keeps it up.

Believable18 Unbelievable3

Agreed , hes finding his feet now, would welcome a permanent deal. keir

Just here tae say thar a thought fraser foster was amazing the day a have all ways said he was a good young keeper even when we were playing bad a thought the defence let him down ot but its great to c him finally get the praise he deserved{hope we sign him permanatly and he's still very young}

Believable14 Unbelievable0

Having a settled CB pairing in front of him has been great for the big man, but his shot stopping is class, defo showing his worth now!

Agree9 Disagree0

Yes, have to agree. I've always liked him while others have been slating him. I think when it's one on one he's one of the best i've ever seen. I love the way he spreads his whole body out and narrows the shot down, very schmeichel like. (not that I'm comparing him to schmeichel).
Not so great at crosses, but he likes to punch the ball which is very continental, maybe someting we're just not used to!
Sign him up!

On Twitter 'Celtic looking to bring in big name euro striker on loan' I know it's a bit vague but anybody got any ideas or heard anything. What about you Ed? You appear to have your finger on the pulse.

Jamesy Dell {Ed007's Note - It seems the player NL wants isn't available to buy during this window but is available to loan.}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Please dont bombard Ed with names
however i have heard a possible target coming in from Germany.

Agree1 Disagree0

Cheers Ed. Have you any inclination to a possible name? Berbatov has been muted today at the game (I can't see it and don't want him. I reckon he'd be a disruption to the squad and we can't afford him) Amauri has also been suggested by a mate, apparently out of favour at Juve. I've personally got a hunch that it's someone from the Bundisliga.

Jamesy Dell {Ed007's Note - It is not Berbatov!! I said yesterday that a player from the Bundesliga was on the radar Jamesy.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ive been hearing freddi kanoutes name a few times tonite

Agree0 Disagree2

My money's on one of Marcus Berg, Damien Le Tallec or Giovanni Sio.

Agree2 Disagree0

Giovanni Sio has just signed for Wolfsburg .

Agree2 Disagree0

Yeah I know but he hasn't played for them (thus it wouldn't be illegal according to FIFA rules), they have a ton of options up front and he is still young so there's an off-chance they might look to loan him out.

It was just an off-the-top-of-my-head list of German based players with a bit of a reputation. I don't see us getting an established big-name from Germany unless it's a guy just off a long injury lay-off or an older player not getting playing time but I could see us getting an up-and-coming young player who'd offer us something different up front.

All three of those players fit the criteria, and Sio I'm sure we've been linked with before.

evening all. does anyone else think that maybe big fraz is looking for a move to an epl club?. just his form has been outstanding but he wants to get this season over b4 he commits. i hope im wrong . ive always been pro fraz as i saw him perform even better wi lambos norwich and i know lambos a huge fan.

Hey ed, not a rumour but a question...have you any idea what the going rate for a player is in Poland? Cause I know a Lech poznan fan who praises they're striker Rudnevs all the time? Is there any possibility of Celtic having a look? He's scored 18 league goals this season... {Ed007's Note - Arjtjoms Rudnevs is a Latvian international. With the scouting system I am sure CFC are aware of him. He was valued at £5 million supposedly last year with a few EPL and European teams looking at him, but I doubt he would cost that. He looks a good player from what I have seen of him.}

Hi ed first time on the site, I think neil lennons main priority must be to sign big forster up because this season he has proved he is good enough to be our no1 for a long time,he has saved us a lot of points. Big improvement.
Conor {Ed007's Note - Welcome to the site Conor. I agree with you. I have always backed Forster and he seems to be getting better and more confident every game. I hope he keeps it up.}

Ed can you tell me if commons played well today im from carlisle and couldnt see the game {Ed007's Note - He came on in the 58th minute and done OK.}

Believable8 Unbelievable0

Go to the sports bar in the town centre.they usually have the Celtic games on 1 of their many t.v's mate.hail hail

Agree3 Disagree0

I thought Commons changed the game when he replaced Samaras

Agree17 Disagree1

I agree with the above poster gave us fresh impetus and some attacking threat from the left

Junglebhoy33

Agree10 Disagree0

He pulled their right back out of position a few times and had a few good touches and passes. looked good and hope he is back to his best as it will be like a new signing.

Agree6 Disagree0

Does no 1 else think we lack a creative midfielder who can get in the box and support hooper and stokes,ki is supposed to do it but i am not a big fan of him at all.

Agree0 Disagree0

After a few games commons will his fitness back and will probaly play a vital part in winning the league. beleive he can regain his form of last season

Hi Ed, do you know if Hamdi Salihi is NL, main striking target? I know Lenny has a few options, and although Salihi goal scoring record is very good and he is 6"1, he doesn't seem to be the physical presence NL craves! Looking for your expert opinion Ed?? {Ed007's Note - If Salihi was the main target I think he would have been signed by now. He is a possibility though.}

Paddy McCourt to Blackpool, apparently the rumour is hotting up?

Believable14 Unbelievable2

I thinks its time he moved on how much do u think we cud get for him

Agree8 Disagree1

How about unlimited ride wristbands for the whole squad for the pleasure beach? {Ed007's Note - Jamesy would LOVE that!!}

Agree4 Disagree2

Yeah jamesy would love that ,but there is a hight restriction on most rides lol

Hail hail

It's all right,they have a Nickelodeon area now.

Hed b as happy as a currant bun in his sisters knickers haha is1888 seriously tho ill b sad 2 c paddy go as he has got sum amount o talent only prob is his fitness n the fact we hav so much competition 4 places in his position i mean he never scores a bad goal theyre always crackers paddy mccourts f*nian army hail hail

Agree4 Disagree1

He has scored some spectacular solo goals but he doesnt seem to be able to command his a first team spot, wether its because he has been labelled a super sub or fitness problems i dont know, but i think its time to cash in on him, will never be a regular first team player , were not struggling for midfielders by any means, keir

daryl king today said on radio clyde, that Celtic
will hold onto Hooper, but expect to see a few bids for other players come out in the next few days.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

Daryl king talks colin nish, he was never going anywhere why would we sell our top striker midway through a season-nonsense!

Agree5 Disagree0

I could definitely see Ki going if we get decent money for him. the likes of wanyama, forrest, hooper and matthews wont be going anywhere though

Agree6 Disagree2

That darryl king tryin 2 deflect the loomong death of the currant buns n the fact that jellypish is gettin sold?typical try n stir up s**t where there is none hes just gutted cos his team r now 20 points worse off than oct/nov at this very minute 19 if it stays a draw if anybody goes itd b backup players not any of our top players n that includes dave he wants a treble

Agree4 Disagree0

I would sell ki,for me he has been poor this season,take 4 or 5mill and buy a creative mid.

Where's all the Scott Brown & James Forrest doubters today o/ ?

Not the most enjoyable experience but result ground out - Mrs E

Believable13 Unbelievable5

Add the Forster doubters to that (he kept us in the game today)this is a priority for us get him signed

Agree9 Disagree1

Scott browns too inconsistent, thats why he has doubters, forster in my opinion was lacking confidence, and looked nervy when he first came, theres no doubt that both have upped their game and playing to their ability now, willybhoy

Agree4 Disagree6

Scott brown mite have scored but once again didn't have a great game
Paddy

Agree8 Disagree9

I was one of big Fraser's doubters & will gladly stand corrected, the improvement has been great...what is it now 9/11 clean sheets ? Its the James Forrest doubters that really get me, we've had to rely on him too much in my opinion this season (esp in the early part of the season) to dig the team out of a hole. He's a crackin wee winger - Mrs E

Agree9 Disagree1

Actually forgot about his assist as well but still for our captain to be the weak link in our midfield far to many times is unacceptable for me, I've stuck by him for years hopin he'd prove me wrong but it's worn out now. Suppose we're all entitled to our own opinions tho

Paddy

Agree4 Disagree7

Ive not heard any1 doubt forrest to be honest hes been a revelation this season, cant fault him myself willybhoy

Agree7 Disagree2

What game did you watch paddy, brown ran his guts out for the cause, he was faultless today

Agree13 Disagree7

Agreed,i have been critical of brown but he did get thru a power of work and his set up for forrest was clever. green jhedi

Agree7 Disagree0

How can you possibly say that brown was poor today...he was outstanding

Agree11 Disagree6

Hes just not good enough, canny make a simple pass at times and turns into trouble far to often

Paddy

Agree5 Disagree7

Brown was imense today. can only remember him losing the ball once and he won it back afterwards. Did all the running for the midfield as Wanyama didn't have the best of games!

Agree9 Disagree2

I think the goal that Broony scored has made people blind to the amount of times he gave the ball away in midfield, he is average but miles better than Ki who was non existant...

Agree7 Disagree10

Im a scott brown doubter and here i am he is rubbish

Agree4 Disagree11

All these people who back Brown must remember that we paid 4.4m for a player who has got 12 goals in 130 appearances or so. A player at that price - who has been the main man in midfield for this long should have contributed far more - especially in a league as average as the spl. Look at Kris Commons last season who has got more goals in half a season out on the wing. He is not creative enough and doesn't chip in with enough assists. We have to look at the bigger picture and say overall he works hard but doesn't possess great ability. If anything Ledley is the only player who is capable from the centre of getting forwards and getting assists and goals. Something we haven't had for years because we haven't replaced what Stillian Petrov gave us.

Agree5 Disagree3

2 the poster above broonie was magic in his season 4 the hoops after that he had 2 deal with the trauma of his sister passing away which would b hard enuff 4 anybody there r people who would b off work 4 months n months due 2 a family bereavement n yet he still stuck at it which shows the strength of character he has he has also 4 the past 2 years up 2 n including this season been playing while carryin an injury which required surgery n thats cos he plays 4 the cause n doesnt let anybody down the boy gives a hundred percent cum rain hail or shine he is energetic gives us such dig in midfield n i think he drives the team on he has that wind up part of his game n psyches out players so well ala keane lennon etc i think the players around him drive their performances up wen broonie leads by example he mite not hav scored a lot of goals but he scores vital goals the 1 where he got it rite up that t**t diouf n had him in his pocket 4 the whole game n yesterday wen it was a tight 1 0 lead he also wen he plays on the right gives gd cover 2 the right back n he can come inside 2 give us a solid 3 in the middle wen its needed wen u nd players 2 stand up n b counted he never shirks the task n u gotta admire that n just like super joe ledley hed play wherever nl asks him 2 as hes all 4 the team nl has faith in broonie as do i IS1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Also you have to remember broonie was played out of position and carrying injuries, i think hes great, keeps chasing down balls and gets into tackles, every team needs a player like broonie, Keir

I really do hope we keep hold of commons because after watching us win today in really difficult conditions he turned the game for us

Junglebhoy33

Believable18 Unbelievable0

Always thought he was an exceptional player.like i said a few weeks ago.get the problems sorted,and we have a great player again

Agree15 Disagree0

Spot on mate. Get him fully match fit and he'll be like a new signing again. End of Sammy tho.

Richybhoy

Agree9 Disagree1

Richybhoy totally agree with both your comments! Celtic became a real threat when Commons came on! Looking forward to seeing him back to his best! Sammy needs to have a proper look at himself

Agree6 Disagree0

Nonsense! Sammy has been great for the past few months. He had a bad game today but so did a few others. He was our best player in europa league!

Agree4 Disagree10

Sammys been consistently gd n been a major reason we reversed the 15 point gap he wasnt at his best 2day but its 1 game dont start bein like the currant buns n turnin against ur players manager or club we r celtic supporters faithful thru n thru r we not?i no i am n wen we were so far off the pace i never once panicked thats wot keepin the faith is n in lennon we trust just b happy we hav a quality squad n there r games wen both commons n sammy will b important 4 us in the run in 2 the title n treble hail hail is1888 ps big forster was exceptional again 9 clean sheets in 13 games im sure they said on espn am i correct in sain that ed mate?its games like that 2day that make champions

Agree4 Disagree3

Sammy is p**h! He doesn't look interested half the time! He's only scored about 5 goals in two seasons! Not good enough! Get him out!!

Agree10 Disagree6

If commons gets match fit he will take sammys palce no probs, im actually hoping for this to happen, commons is gonna be vital in the run-in as was proven today!

Agree9 Disagree0

He contributes a helluva lot 2 the team n has been in great form recently as many folk on here hav agreed if u asked nl id bet hed say the exact same he is a great team player n 2 the poster above u clearly havent watched celtics last 11 spl games n he did really well in europe 4 us as well go back 2 the dark side of the force we r celtic supporters faithful thru n thru is2999

Agree4 Disagree1

Commons for sammy every time,even a half fit commons offers more to the team than sammy.

Agree0 Disagree1

Funny how after a subs appearance of 30 odd mins so many people r ravin about commons n slaggin off sammy who has been excellent in our undefeated run n europa league campaign n yet quite a few posters were slaggin commons 4 the last few months sayin get rid of him as soon as we can that he was a whale n all this other rubbish how fickle people can b c instead o slaggin players wen theyre strugglin or goin thru a bad period or in sammys case had 1 average performance
in the last wot 15 games? at least n the whole team only got goin in the 2nd half we had gd possession but not a lot of penetration so dont single out 1 player even wee forrest who sparked in the 2nd half was average 1st half but as usual sammys an easy target 4 all u part time fans who really should go n support the dark side if thats how loyal u r 2 players hail hail IS1888 ps commons is a top player but sammy has been 4 us as well n both will make contributions 2 the treble it is a team game after all n it was strachan who said sammy is the best team mate anybody could wish 4 works 4 the team takes stick fae fans still always wants the ball n he creates space n openings 4 his teammates

Ed, i've been on the site for a wee while now and obviously you make your comments at the end of peoples comments / rumours with your opinions etc. I can't help but notice in this window when people are mentioning strikers we may sign you seem certain we will sign a striker in this window. I may be reading it wrong but you seem a lot more certain than in the majority of your other comments.

Have you got some inside info there ???

Cheers
Gary {Ed007's Note - NL has said it is his priority this window to try and bring a CF in. It is difficult to tie up deals in January but I am confident that a CF will be signed.}

Believable3 Unbelievable1

Lenny said it 2day after the game that he wants a cf in so eds bang on n im sure we will get another gem in oh n 4 all the morons out there he also stated he n lawell r adament hooper will not b sold as hes vital 2 winning the title hail hail n heres 2 the treble is1888 lets all do the broonie na na na na
