Hi ed is the hooper thing 100% as it would be strange after him saying he wanted to stay for at least another season to have a crack at the champions league {Ed007's Note - No transfer is 100% until it is completed.}

NEIL LENNON has moved quickly to quell fears
Gary Hooper will look to move if he does not get
the huge wage rise he is reported to be seeking.
The Celtic boss is also progressing his bid to
keep Fraser Forster at Parkhead.
For good measure, Lennon has also reiterated he
has no ambitions to go anywhere, either, even
though he admits there were times in the last
year when he wondered if it was worth the
serious threats to his well being.
Seeing the likes of Hooper develop into a top
striker makes it all worth-while, and Lennon
said: "He's a very intelligent footballer, and, at
times, he has carried the club.
"That's a huge responsibility for someone so
young, being the main man in the forward area.
But he's handled it very well.
"He wants to stay, and that's very, very pleasing
because there's no doubt there will be people in
England, or elsewhere, who will have an eye on
him.
"But we'll speak to his representatives this week
and try to get something nailed down."

Where has this Hooper story came from ? I cant see a source anywhere
It will end up the same old story leave a club where you are adored and treated like a superstar to have one season in the EPL and spend the rest of your days in the championship. At Celtic you are playing for a team that is expected to win every game which installs a mentality that you dont get from a team like Southampton, Personaly I dont think Hooper will get the service he needs to score goals at a club like that but again thats my opinion I am not saying stay at the hoops all your days but if you get 3-4 consistent seasons including proving yourself in europe, then you put yourself in a position where the massive clubs in europe not just the EPL will take notice, I will tell you somthing he wont get into the English team scoring 20 goals at southampton, not to say he will get any where neat that for them they will be luck if the full team scores 20 goals in the season.

i know it was inevitable at some point but am really disappointed we didn't get another year from hooper.
Really really disappointed.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

I am also dissapointed about what is going with hooper.hope he stays, but if he doesnt i will go for ched evans who i believe is free in the summer and for jordan rhodes who will cost 3-4millions.i also expect much from bangura. after all i trust in lennon, he will find new hoopers,kayals...

SlovenianCelt {Ed007's Note - Forget Ched Evans. He is in prison.}

Agree0 Disagree0

This myth about hooper is cringe worthy my 1st tic game was 1962 dont remember it BUT HOOPER AINT AS GOOD AS WALLACE MCBRIDE DEANS DALGLISH NICHOLAS MCCLAIR MCAVENNIE DJAKANOWSKI pardon spelling CADETTE LARSSON VAN HOODJONK HARTSON SAME CLASS AS MCGARVEY MCGHEE WALKER ZURAVSKI pardon spelling polish is a nightmare.better than melrose mcinally falconer payton etc BUT WE CAN GET BETTER .

Agree0 Disagree0

Super Hoopers going nowhere, start worrying about Hector. The taxman cometh my bluenose friend {Ed007's Note - ????}

Agree0 Disagree0

That Ched Evans shout was a belter. mate your aff the kerb. The guy just got 5 fears. were have you been it was all over the news. {Ed007's Note - I'm assuming by the guys name, he might not have known.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Is he accusing me of being a blue nose?? Wow really never saw that coming, my concern is a 20 plus striker and having one every year, Hooper is one and I want him there, yes I truly hope we can get better yes he's maybe not as good as the names listed but he's good and he's ours and I'm disappointed at the apparent desire to leave, it devalues him and sets us back
Nevis

Agree0 Disagree0

First of all i apologize about evans post, i really didnt know that. i read news about celtic every day and i didnt find anything about evans.because i am a pashionate celtic fan am a little bit disappointed on your comment {Ed007's Note - Don't worry about it mate. Outside the UK I doubt the news made many headlines.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate i agree. If he wants to go and play for a 2nd-3rd rate EPL team instead of the chance to play Champions League football because of the money then it tells you everything you need to know about the guy. If he leaves i would bet good money he will never in his whole career play Champions League again. Like i say if thats his attitude instead of staying for even another year then we are best shot of him. He is replaceable

Hi ed when do u think Lennon will want to get his new signings in by and who do u think he will go for?Conor67 {Ed007's Note - Transfers can't be registered officially until the 1st of July anyway Conor. NL will be looking to get any new signings in ASAP for a good pre-season and the CL qualifiers at the end of July. As for who will be brought in, it is the silly season just now, we are getting linked with every available player and all the transfer speculation will be about CFC 100% this summer. With Rangers embargo in place, the papers etc need to fill the column inches. If Markus Henriksen decides to leave Rosenborg we have a good chance of signing him. Andy Johnson's (Fulham) representatives have said that CFC are interested in him. There is still interest in Jay Rodriguez and the Jordan Rhodes situation will be watched. Jason Shackell (Derby) and Matt Mills (Leicester) have both been scouted as has Yann Kermorgant (Charlton). Keep your eyes and ears open about AJ Leitch-Smith from Crewe Alexandra over the summer as well.}

Believable3 Unbelievable2

ED007, do you think Forster will sign or are we going after Gordon? I hope we get Henriksen looks a decent player. Also heard about rumours about Mills, but I would keep K Wilson also. Rodriguez would be a good buy also, do not know much about Leitch-Smith, I take it Celtic interest is serious? Timalloy {Ed007's Note - He has caught someone's eye Tim. His name came up when I was talking to someone about Nick Powell. I would rather keep Wilson than go for Mills, unless he has not settled. Wilson was highly rated and was solid enough from what I remember of him at Notts Forest. Give him even till January before moving him on, I don't think Mills is any better. The GK situation is again proving to be a problem, as far as I know the ball is in Forster's court. Other GKs that have been mentioned to me are Gordon, Alex Smithies at Huddersfield and David Forde from Millwall.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, how much interest have celtic actually shown in Shackell? Because i could tell them he's diabolical? I'd take any of those keepers to be honest, doesn't look like Fortsters gonna sign for celtic. {Ed007's Note - I just know Shackell has been watched.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be honest here guys. with the situation at the other side of the city, there is no way that there will be any big signings or big money spent, i can see a few going out to balance the coffers and probably a couple of lower league players coming in. Why should we spend when we are guarunteed the league for the next 3 years at least, giving us european football where our record is horendous., but some tidy money for being in the competition as we will never get passed the qualifying stages . also will be even harder to attract big names with no competition in the league anyway

First time poster here. Love the site. Just wanted to ask if its just me who thinks the price of the kits is a disgrace? For the full kit it costs nearly 100 quid!
Cheers, Henrikstongue {Ed007's Note - Welcome mate. I agree with you on the kit prices, it is fans getting fleeced again.}

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Nike have put all their prices up so the club need to do the same.Every kit that gets made goes to 3/4 different countries to get bits added before it reaches here.Starts off in Malaysia,goes to U.S then on to Portugal to get the washing labels,etc attached so all these costs have went up.Celtic were toying with the price at 60 for the short sleeve as the increase to this price would give the club the same mark-up as before but realised that was a bit much so club aren't making the same profit from each top.

Hi Ed
I've just read the post below that Hooper's asked to leave, is that official? He was only in the paper the other day encouraging fraser to sign up?! If this is legit, what sort of fee are we likely to get?
I'm disappointed at this news
HH
pfb79 {Ed007's Note - I would imagine the fee will total somewhere between £6-8 million (there could be add ons). I would have said £8 million + (including add ons) if Hopper wasn't pushing for the move.}

Believable3 Unbelievable2

ED007, even if Hooper wants away, surely Celtic hold all the aces in that he still has about 3 years left of his contract, only accept 7m+ for him.
I see Spurs/Blackburn want Ki, again I would say if we get 4m+ let him go as long as Lennon gets this money to buy players with.
If Celtic let go say at least 6 players and then have a transfer budget of 10m+ (from transfers) we can get in the 3 players we need GK, CH and CF of a higher standard.
Also ED007 what are your thoughts on selling Sammy, I cannot see him having another good season, especially coming after Euros he will be tired, again any decent offer 3m+ take it.. Timalloy {Ed007's Note - Hooper has two years left on his contract Tim, and CFC can't afford to keep an unhappy player with his value. I have said all along if an acceptable bid is put in for Ki he should be sold. If a bid over 3 million was made for Samaras I would probably accept it. He had an impressive season and I think he might have turned a corner in his CFC career, but it would be a gamble to turn down that kind of money for him, he might not keep up the form he showed.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, do you think this has came about because of him not getting a call up? or do you think it could have been planned all along?

HH
pfb79 {Ed007's Note - I think it might be a bit of both mate. I expected him to stay for another year on an improved contract.}

Agree0 Disagree0

F*@K Gary Hooper. If he wants to go then let him and get the best price for him. know one is bigger than the club. I will be dissapointed to see him go but as long as they spend the money to replace him i couldn't care less. Mainly because IF he feels the need to move to a second rate premiership team for more money rather than waiting another season and getting the last chance he will get to play Champions League football then chase him. I will drive him to England for Celtic if we receive 7 Million plus. Good riddance mercenary. I would like to add if these rumours are not true then my feelings still stand to any player with the same attitude. Hail Hail

Agree0 Disagree0

So it's OK for Celtic to be ambitious, but not OK for a player?
Whether it's right or wrong, there is little chance of an English player getting an international cap whilst playing in the SPL, and if a player is at that age where he thinks he can go for this chance it is simply ambition.
Don't bother to mention the Champions League and how a player can showcase his skills-you are never in it long enough for that!

Agree0 Disagree0

20 May 2012 16:33:31
Just heard all 4 english teams get direct entry into the champions league must b great to finish 3rd in ur domestic league and still go straight into the group stages so the name CHAMPIONS league doesnt really mean alot still we will do it and do it the celtic way
Hobbybhoy

Believable11 Unbelievable2

Because they have earned it with their co-efficients...

Agree0 Disagree0

Earned it with the millions pumped into the leagues and teams!

Agree0 Disagree0

Its a nonesense though that we have 2 qualifying round to get through and there 2nd and 3rd dont have to qualify and go straight in even we are champions of our domestic league. The thing is called the Champions League afterall. Spare a thought for Tottenham though. I also think that rule is a joke aswell. Chelsea should go straight in because they won it AND the top 4 should still get theyre crack at it even if it meant Tottenham having 2 qualifying rounds. I agree with the OP but we will get theyre and do it the celtic way.

Agree0 Disagree0

We should take it as a blessing I for one wouldnt want to face Arsenal or Spurs in a quallifier

Hi eds, only just stumbled across the site and I love it! Just wondering is there any interest from teams in hooper? I'd be gutted if he left and his goal scoring exploits have been phenomenal! Cheers {Ed007's Note - Thanks very much. With regards to Hooper:

{Ed007's Note - Hooper and his agent has informed CFC that he wants to
leave to play in the EPL and try and break into the England set up. The contract talks have not stalled, there probably won't be any talks.

The club already knew that they faced a fight keeping the player during this window, and were aware of what Hooper was looking for financially. Contract talks were due in January, but after Nigel Adkins 'advised' Hooper and his agent (Simon Dent) to stall the talks until the summer to see if Southampton won promotion, his agent called them off.

I don't know for definite but it is said to be between £20-30k a week Hooper is looking for. He is only on £10-12k a week supposedly (although he does have a scoring bonus), I think he has proven that he is worth a lot more than that. He would easily get into the £30-45k a week bracket down south.

Over the last few months Adkins thought that the chance of signing Hooper was slipping away and the player would stay another year up here so he started looking elsewhere.

Reading have actually shown more interest recently than Southampton, but with the Adkins factor there, Southampton will always have the upper hand.

Apparantly one of Hooper's representatives recently contacted Adkins to see if he was still interested in the player. Money isn't the overwhelming factor in all of this, it is Hooper's ambition that is forcing the issue.

With the player asking to leave, officially or otherwise, it could also have an effect on the fee. It is well known down south that Hooper is looking for a move now.

The Russian interest (Zenit St Petersburg and CSKA Moscow) is just a regurgitation of a rumour from January, although they might come back in for him knowing that he is available, although I imagine he would refuse a move to Russia.

I expect other teams will strengthen their interest in the coming days or weeks unless the deal with Southampton has already been accepted.

Stories that Everton are interested seem to be wide of the mark though, I doubt they could afford the deal and they will probably sign Naismith.

Will CFC play hardball with a player who is unhappy and wants to leave but is under contract for another two years? I think Hooper will be sold and it will probably be to the team he chooses rather than the highest bidder, although bids will all be in the same region, no club is going to pay over the odds for a player who wants to leave a club.}

Believable6 Unbelievable9

Hi Ed. I thought Hooper said he was happy and wanted to stay to play in the Champions League

Agree0 Disagree0

How come only week ago he was spouting in the papers how happy he was and wanted to stay here?
More bs from a player trying to pull the wool over us then?

Agree0 Disagree0

Money isn't the overwhelming factor in all of this, it is Hooper's ambition that is forcing the issue.

lack of ambition signing for a team likely to be fighting for survival against posible champs league nights europa league goals further enhancing his profile!
willybhoy {Ed007's Note - Playing in the EPL and gaining recognition to try and break into the England squad. It doesn't matter where you are in the league. Hooper scored more goals last Sunday than Andy Carroll has all season, who is away to the Euros?}

Agree0 Disagree0

It has always been the case that if a player is wanting to move his message to the fans is that he is happy to stay.
Bit like the board saying "we have every confidence in the manager"-then you know he is out of the door soon afterwards!

Agree0 Disagree0

To think I had actually considered Hooper a future No.7 and Celtic great. Someone who despite the offers from England, would pledge his career and loyalty to such a prestigious club that rescued him from rotting in the lower leagues of England.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just goes to show that you can't believe anything that comes from players or journalists. It sounds a bit over cynical, but when Hooper says to the media he wants to stay and play CL football and then puts himself up for a transfer, what is the ordinary fan in the street meant to think? For the record, if he really believes in his ability, then a crack at CL football should be a priority over struggling with a newly promoted EPL team in your maiden season in the division. Money is the prize I suppose at the end of the day, not an impressive record when you've retired.

Agree0 Disagree0

Total pish!!!!!!! Hoops will be a tic player next year and hopefully playing in CL. {Ed001's Note - I wouldn't be so sure, Southampton revived their interest in him purely because his reps contacted them. They had moved on and were chasing Jay Rodriguez instead.}

Agree0 Disagree0

6or 8 million for hooper!!!!! bite their hands off .he aint worth nothing like that , i said this before , under 30 goals in a celtic championship winning team aint nothing to boast about............

squad of the "dead wood"(murphy,O'dea,juarez,mcginn etc.)we are only a quality goalkeeper,ball-winning centre half and a centre forward who can actually win headers while scoring goals away from having something
potentially a bit special? {Ed007's Note - I 100% agree with you regarding what is needed, I would also like a 'flair' player brought in, someone along the lines of Lubo. Ibrahim could be that player, but he is still young as well.}

Good Morning ED007, just wanted to comment on last night's CL final, what a terrible advert for football. Two poor poor teams, but at least Bayern tried to attack, this year football was robbed of a european "classico" when the Spanish teams went out, at least they would have entertained us, but Chelsea adopted Watties "anti football" defend, defend and hope for a lucky break or penalties, boring boring Chelski
our beloved Jock Stein would be turning in his grave watching Chelsea, yes they won but they "tainted it" with their boring tactics, now I know why I support Celtic, champions of good old fashioned ATTACKING FOOTBALL hail hail Timalloy {Ed007's Note - It was a terrible match Tim. There really is nothing more I can say about it.}

Believable9 Unbelievable5

I gotta disagree with you both. It was a fantastic watch, and I'm glad chelsea done those arrogant Germans on their home patch, fair play to chelsea. - Quack {Ed007's Note - Arrogant Germans? JT and Cashley? The match was an atrocious advert for football, the best part was the woman picking her nose and any camera shots of Eva Carneiro.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on a dont like chelski but they done whatEVERY CLUB IN EUROPE WOULD LUVE TO DO NEXT YEARRemember st martins magical attacking 0 0 in barca a few years back, at the final whistle a loved it and was proud.john kenneddys tackle on ronaldinho still the best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let me guess, Celtic would have played slick, free flowing football and outclassed whoever their opponent was?

TTG {Ed007's Note - Good guess, well done :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

I think your taking this a bit far calling it an atrocious advert for football?, that match had two last minute goals extra time penalty saved, loads of goal mouth action, the whole match was on a knife edge, when your dissing the quality of the football your leaving out the sheer excitement of the match and really thats what its all about, who wants to see barca walk their way to the final, boring. And yes they were arrogant, taking off muller cause they thought they were strolling it, but they got caught out. Gotta say that woman picking her nose was really getting stuck in. - Quack {Ed007's Note - As a neutral there was nothing in the match I would consider any more exciting than if it was an ordinary European match. It was like watching any cup match where a small team are trying to hold out against a top side who they know are better than them. Bayern had 35 shots at goal compared to Chelsea's 9. If that is the cream of Europe then football is in a worse state than people think. The only reason I would have wanted Barcelona in the final was if they were going to lose. Last night's match will never be looked upon as a great, or even good, match. It will be hyped up with the English media as one but they need to do that, it will be long dead in people's memory in a couple of weeks.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, I doubt you would be complaining about the performance if you were a Chelsea fan. At the end of the day Chelsea's tactics won them the match. Pretty soon you are goin to witness Celtic sit back and defend for their lives and if they succeed in that, either victorious or by the away goal rule, you will be telling us how wonderful the performance was and that they defended brilliantly.

TTG {Ed007's Note - You don't know me so don't assume what I will say at any time. For a CL final, the show-piece of club football, that was a terrible advert for the game. Where in anything I have said did I mention CFC? If you are going to input on a thread at least try and make it relevant without comparing everything with CFC. We are talking about a CL final, not Falkirk coming to CP or Ibrox in a League Cup match. How many people do you know still talk about Greece winning the Euros in 2004 with their 'kontrollierte offensive' style of play?}

Agree0 Disagree0

TTG, I don't know how old you are but Jock Stein's Celtic (Lisbon Lions) played the most exciting attacking footbal I have had the pleasure of watching.
Also Busby, Shankly would not have wanted any team of theirs to win this way.
Today Ferguson's Man Utd try to attack teams and have to be applauded..
Quack, only the penalty shoot out generated any excitement, Chelsea spent millions to win "the big cup" and sadly they have done the game of football a dis service by their boring tactics. Timalloy

Agree0 Disagree0

A poor advert for football. Any team that has been bank rolled by a billionair should at least be able to play attacking football!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm a neutral and I enjoyed it. Chelsea had to field a weakened side which prevented then from really going toe to toe with bayern. PLus if barca were in the final do you not think the game would have been near identical to the one last night. Even madrid defend and defend against barca. - Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the majority of posts, and Ed0007's to an extent.
It wasn't a free flowing classic of entertaining football. But it was intriguing,nail biting to the extent that you didn't know what was going to happen next.
Bayern had a huge advantage,home ground,it was up to them to break Chelsea down,same as Barca. Muller scored 8 mins from the end,and your thinking it's over. Then Drogba scores with 2/3 mins left. Never write the old warhorse off,his record in major finals is amazing. 9 in 9. Extra time, Penalties.
C'mon guy's it wasn't exactly terrible entertainment on a Saturday night. Kept you guessing right to the end.

Aha..That's what Wattie was doing all those years! Lol.
Previously O.B. {Ed007's Note - :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Did mourinho not use similar tactics only a few seasons ago? fans would remember it in 20yrs time for how they won it, just simply - they won it!

Football is a business nowadays - the the aim of the business is to win by any means necessary. {Ed007's Note - I think you will find that football is supposed to be entertaining as a spectator sport. How can we in Scotland moan about the prices we need to pay to watch a poor standard of football then say that game last night was good? Look at the invested money that was on the park and it was no different to watching what we have seen for years when teams come to Glasgow.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Bayern were a bit more adventurous than they were when they played Inter 2 years ago but i have to agree the game didn't live up to it's billing.Same as Manchester derby,we expected too much i think.

Jungle Bhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

What book or rules state that football is supposed to be entertaining, it was boring tactics by chelsea but tactics nonetheless and said tactics that won them the european cup!! no 1 would complain if their side used the same tactics and won!
willybhoy {Ed007's Note - The books that show the money coming in the gate and through TV revenue seem to rely quite heavily on it being entertaining. Otherwise nobody will go to games or bother watching it on TV. Have you noticed the difference in TV money between the EPL and SPL, that is because the EPL is regarded as the 'best league in the world' and people find it more entertaining than the SPL. You aren't going to pay money to watch something you don't enjoy are you? If you do then I have two tickets for a play my wee niece is in, it is really not my cup of tea but you can have the tickets for 30 each, they only cost 10 but if you will pay good money to be bored to tears I might as well make a profit.}

I just had the misfortune of reading that excuse for a journalist Keevins column on that excuse for a newspaper the SM( I know I should know better) It confirms what I have suspected for a while. He has lost the plot and is past it. His jabberings and incoherent cut and paste diatribe are a lesson on how not to write a newspaper article. Apart from the nonsense cascading from his slavering lips, we will put that to one side, his technical ability as a writer is Standard grade schoolboy level D. How did this guy get a job as a journalist of any description?, it really beggars belief...Sopot Celt

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Sopot Celt, i think you may have answered your own question as to how he became a journalist!! Nonsense cascading from slavering lips, writing ability and all round demeanour.... this is what a SM /DR journalist needs to succed!

Agree0 Disagree0

He's not a journalist mate. He's a reporter on a rag / comic that barely even qualifies as a red top. I read it too and thought the exact same , we should know better. H H

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry to be pedantic but if it were Standard Grade then it would be level 5 or 6, Foundation level. But the guy's still an idiot pandering to the bigots.

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont get why people constantly moan about him? if you dont like what he writes... dont read it. if you dont like what he says... dont listen to it?

Agree0 Disagree0

I can assure you I dont listen to it. And as he is the "Auld Faither" of the Scottish football press corps unfortunately he gets air time. Subsequently he has in the past and he will if given the opportunity damage the interests of CFC. It is therefore in all our interests to drop in on his rantings now and again. I did say I should know better but there you are none of us are perfect, least of all me. Sopot Celt.

Having not read his article. can you give some specifics and how again this might have any effect on CFC?

The general thrust of this nonsense involved Kenny Dalglish and his leaving Liverpool. He then contrived to drag up the time that King Kenny was our manager and took the opportunity to remind everyone of how important he (Keevins ) was in standing up to Dalglish in those times.He also spent some time having a little dig here and there about CFC and importantly how he dislikes the faceless internet posters. Here wait a minute, on reflection I am beginning to think YOU are Hugh Keevins!. As such I have indulged you enough. You can now scurry off and do what you are best at, that is writing more s**** about football in general and CFC in particular. Sopot Celt

Rosenborg midfielder Markus Henriksen says it's "nice" clubs like Celtic are interested in signing him but he is not certain to leave the Norwegian outfit in the summer.
