Quite disappointed to see Mr Lawwell getting some stick from some fans. Can i understand it,yes,Would i like to see a dominant centre back,Yes,But we cannot keep continually passing over Nineteen year olds to buy twenty eight year olds. These kids need game time and our total support. We started down this buy cheap, sell high option two years ago,and it sounded great. Now when we move a player on the rush to spend a fortune starts. With the financial carnage The rangers left we all knew there would be a fiscal angle that neede to be addressed.I think we have two real prospects,Frazer and Twardzik,Who we will see a lot more of this season.Throw in McGeough,Watt, George and Ibrahim and things are not so bad.Our wage bill is also very high and some players will be angling for extensions and rises soon.41k season books is also a drop, less TV money, means we need to reduce debt.I believe we have the right people in place to steer us through these times.Remember,in Lennon we trust always.........green jhedi

Believable12 Unbelievable7

At last a sensible post, well said Jhedi. If we qualify for CL we will sign a few players and if not we don't need to sign anyone to win SPL so why put our future at risk when the league is a given. The people in charge of Celtic are fans like us and they will do what is best for our club. I really want to see some of these younger players mentioned being given a chance. Look at those who we have done this with recently - McGeady netted us £10m and almost the entire current squad and James Forrest who in time could command a similar fee. Give these boys a chance and they could earns us millions in the future......martyc1888

Agree0 Disagree0

How many season tickets were sold last year?

Agree0 Disagree0

Couldn't agree more my friend! I understood the debt to be approx' £7m but some reports are saying as much as £15m! I hope this is not true. We should get past Helsingborgs with the squad we have!

Time to play watt more often, far better than stokes who's struggling, watt faster, fitter, and hungrier, ,

now that ki is poised to go for 6m plus, 2.5m is to be paid to debt which leaves at least 4m for transfers. if celtic get to the group stages(15m), rhodes is coming for 4.2m rising to 4.6, richard dunne or michael ciani is heading to parkhead, wanyama is here for another season and we,re also looking at henrikson(ki replacement and also being leaked from my close friend who works at parkhead is the word jonny russel in, bangura out on loan as well as murphy, possibly marc janko on loan with the option of a 3.5m buy at the end of next season! who knows but ive wrote on this before and my predictions through contacts said keane was coming on loan, ledley was signing and we would be signing a michael essien type midfielder being big vic!

Believable6 Unbelievable12

Hope you are right mate but all of that sounds a bit too good to be true! Not sure we would get Rhodes for that fee. I guess it all depends now on what happens in the Helsingborgs games!

Agree1 Disagree0

Of course you did mr no-name.
we could all claim to have 'told you so' moments if we all did as you have done.

What a terrible post.

Even if Hooper went I would still have complete trust in Lawell. He is the main reason that Celtic have managed to stay above water and have increase teh Celtic brand into other markets such as Korean and Japan.

It would be great to see a ban on nameless post in this forum

Linnie88

In fairness hooper is not good enough for spurs he has a great scoring record for celtic but he scores 2-3 a game then no goals for 2-3 games hes not consistent enough for a top team

Very disappointed and disgruntled by "Ki's" fee being used to service debt.
I've been a season ticket holder for 17 years and fast becoming disullioned
by Lawwell's pleas year after year that amounts to normally nowt.
We were all under impression we had to sell to buy which we now have. Once again we have a fabulous opportunity to progress to Champions League, speculate to accumulate? We have drastically cut wage bill. Crying out for a striker and a centre half, should have been in long before now especially before Champions League qualifier. Get the finger out Lawwell.
Paulo67

Believable8 Unbelievable6

Would you rather we spent money we didn't have and end up in division 3! But your right, there needs to be better plans in place to lower debts than to raid our transfer fund! PL is not liked but appears to be doing the right thing!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Lennon must have targets he really wants and can only get with champions league football and he is willing to gamble knowing the spl is a cert anyway plus he is not going to come out and say yeah am getting money to spend knowing it will push up prices wages agent fees of his targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wont happen, its a business, profit for debt reduction, lawwell will be happy as long as celtic stay slighly ahead , rhodes ? dont see it, russel for £2.5m or thereabouts and that will be it, as decent as he is it will not take celtic forward. £6m for ki is a steal for such a classy player

Agree0 Disagree0

The current players and their value in the Celtic squad should walk all over the Helsingborg first team our first team is four times they're value.

Agree0 Disagree0

We might have 4 times more value to beat helsingborg , it will come down to lennys tactics an for a wile he,s not got any...derbycelt

Agree0 Disagree0

PL is the new Jock Brown, lie after lie ,we should not just be a little bit better than Newco we should take full advantage and march on and become a good european team again, every time we get the chance we take a step back, with the attitude that is as long as we are slightly better than the opposition here in Scotland that is good enough, that maybe the case for the board but not the fans we pay the same money as when Sutton and Hartson etc was here yet have inferior players this does not add up .Dont keep quoting look what happened to Rangers this is just a smokescreen/excuse to try to justify not spending again.

Agree0 Disagree0

When are celtics financial results due to be published.
I dont buy into all this talk of 5-15 million debt as at this point last year I thought the bank debt was down to £500,00.(although it did rise mid season but there was reasons for that namely season ticket sales, bonus money from SPL and Europa still to be factored in)
Weve spent next to nothing on players since last results, Had a run in Europa league which we didnt have previous year and weve taken in money for Juarez, Rasmussen and Hooiveld and now £5m+ for Ki.
Add to that wage costs for this coming season must be severly trimmed after releasing 10 squad players.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Totally and utterly agree with this post 100%. I posted last week saying unfortunately i think the club are well and truly taking the fans for granted infact verging on being disrespectful. For the last two years promised money to add quality after trimming the squad. Well that's been done so where's the quality ?? Promised money for new signings at te end of last season, the quote was "we'll add 3 or 4 quality players .... Where are they ?? And now Ki is being sold and NL is now aaying the money is to be used to service the debt.... Sorry for the rant but this is taking the piss out of honest fans who pay good money into our club. I would at least prefer it if they said we werent signing anyone, stop lying and giving us false hopes .... Please

Sorry to see Ki go but good luck to the guy thought at times he was brilliant .Cant understand the theory we must use his fee to service debt, we have got rid of players and their wages etc 7 million does not require 100,000 a month to service. Not criticising the club but
our club cant be defined by what has happened by the gers if they want full houses then we must have excitement not over the odds but excitement

Lennon saying any money received shall be used to service our debt, deary me

Jamie Mac

Believable6 Unbelievable7

Hardly surprising considering that we actually ran at a loss last year ........ our one and only chance of seeing new faces this window rests on our result against Helsingborgs ......no CL = no new players .

Agree1 Disagree0

Same old story it shouldnt surprise us anymore, bad stuff only two weeks after PL begging us two buy season tickets very dissapointing.

markybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we go out just now and break the bank, I think we need to get rid of a striker and another midfielder before we buy likely murphy or bangura or both Probably going to be wanyama as he is pushing for a move. If we get into the champs league I would expect at least 2 players to sign. Cmac.

Agree0 Disagree0

Said Swansea offered Dobbie and £5.5 m, what's your view on this?

Agree0 Disagree0

Wont be surprised 1 bit if we dont see any players brought in. Im sick of us the fans being short changed every window, if the ki deal goes through then we have just sold 1 of our best footballers to cover the loss made by losing zombie fc.

Agree1 Disagree0

See what lenny said about paying our debt maybe that's what your club should have done and you wouldn't be playing in div3 with no history

Hail hail

Marco1888

Agree0 Disagree0

Makes sense to use this money for debt. If we then get to champions leauge thats 12 million in profit.

Agree0 Disagree0

In peace but where exactly does NL say this?

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately I understand this. I would like to see signings but we have to keep the books balanced. Rangers have stuffed Scottish football and we are paying for their mistakes. If we make it into the group stages then I hope the board already have signings in the pipeline

Agree0 Disagree0

Like it or not debt has to be respected we all saw what it does to those that don't respect it. You can't spend what we've not got and thats just a sad fact of the position we are in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree.....yes we love to see good players but the fact are is the game is what it is, unless we have a good financial sound footing we could end up like the other half of glasgow and their addiction to beat us...we got to remember they will be back quicker than we think, once a league reshuffle happens then we need to be able to use our financial clout then .....we dont need to spend to win this league ...but we do need to find players such as ki

Agree0 Disagree0

Ppl need to relax, yes it is frustrating but I think they do have some pipeline deals as well an eye on someone. Nl might have said that as to not show his cards (maybe a big signing ex:Rhodes in the works and does not want to tip anyone off) and stay focuss on getting in first, it is the start of the season after all and they are not going to jump in and do bad deals. We need to keep the faith and stay the course to cl, that is the goal after all which we haven't had in awhile, the club knows it has to do something to keep fans excited so let's just show support and leave the trashing until we know more. It is a new era for spl after all, it's just the beginning and we are heading in the right direction.

Agree0 Disagree0

Read the I view. NL states thAt he may not get the money and it may be used to service debt. He does not know. It is the usual lazy reporting. Why would Lenny come out and alert other clubs to the fact he has money so that they can inflate the price of anyone we am be after

Agree0 Disagree0

Dobbie ? oh dear, another average joe, much like murphy etc, go and spend on good players not average players. take nicosia as inspiration, they got to quarters of CL last year so why cant celic ? and as for lenny, you expect him to say all the cash will be spent on players ? that would push up proces

Believable15 Unbelievable11

Hey lads I just thought i'd share my views on the Rhodes rumours, I do not think we will see him in the hoops, i've read on twitter that he's having a medical with Blackburn Rovers although I tend to treat the stuff on twitter with a pinch of salt. Having said that I don't think we are prepared to pay the sort of money huddersfield want to release him..... they don't need the money and in this day and age that's an unusual thing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think Rhodes is a no go!

Swansea have offered 6.5m + add ons which would amount to a total of 8m unless another offer comes in as i said a long time ago

Skinnybhoy

Believable8 Unbelievable10

Update from earlier post this will also see celtic with a 15% sell on clause

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2012 16:34:58
My fear is the likes of wanyama will also be allowed to leave for peanuts. 5or6 mil for ki is 2or3 mil short of what everyone was expecting so i think we can now expect an offer of about 6/7 mil being accepted for wanyama. We should be holding these english clubs for ransom, its all good making a profit but hold out for what these players are worth. We have just shown prem clubs that they can get our top players on the cheap and that is not good.

Celticthomas

Believable5 Unbelievable4

Im raging that Ki is going to a wee Welsh club. Im sick of these wee crap teams in the EPL who get loadsamoney and think they can get players from Scotland on the cheap. LO

Agree1 Disagree0

The way I see it is that there is a sell on clause and the thinking is once a player is in epl with a club then there value goes up and we get part of the epl money.
If what I heard was right with 6-6.5mill with add ons 2mill and sell on 15%, if all happens that could be around in the end 11mill which is good/great business, but will only know when details come out.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2012 16:17:53
It just goes to show how over inflated the EPL really is. Swansea get 15 million for Joe Allen after one good season. And they get Ki from us for 5/6 million. A guy who was South Korean footballer of the year. If the Celtic board have any sense they will have a
sell on clause included in the deal. In today's market Ki is worth much more but because he plays in the SPL they can get him on the cheap.
In Lenny I trust. Hail Hail.
Ard Eoin Bhoy.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

It's pathetic. We should have got at least £8m for him. The board are not stupid though and I'm sure they'll have something like a 15% sell-on clause in his contract.

Agree0 Disagree0

If the board are being smart about this they will have a sell on clause, so we can get a decent chunk of the crazy premiership money he will go for in later years.

-Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Aye, he'll move on this time next year for 15-20mil, so yes please to 20% of that

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm hearing 6.3 mil upfront, 1.2 add ons based on appearances and 15% sell on clause, maybe this bid will trigger a bidding war but if not not a bad fee for a bit part player..... before people throw up the EPL and there over inflated transfer fees we all need to take a step back and understand we are the poor relations and that is blatantly obvious given the peanuts we get from Sky!

HH
pfb79

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think anyone believes Joe Allan was worth £15m but because Swansea make so much money from tv money etc. they can afford to knock back realistic bids and hold out for crazy money. Celtic can't do that and need to take the lower offers due to lack of revenue. Sad but true.
Kevbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

The board had a sell on clause for Olivier Tebily FFS

Agree0 Disagree0

So why not say £10m , no less ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Surely a club as big as ours can dig their heels in to ensure decent transfer fees. The EPL are up to their necks in money but also have lots of debts but we should not let them walk all over us.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2012 15:53:45
Although i think Ki is a fantastic player and will do very well in England where he will get more time on the ball, he was always the one from the midfield who i would be willing to sacrafice!

I wish him well wherever he ends up!

So we have now slashed the wage bill and assuming this deal goes through ok - banked £6m

With the potential Champions league cash, surely the club can now go out and buy a centre half and centre forward and still be well in the black!

Believable8 Unbelievable1

Lenny on TV saying the fee for ki is to fund our debt, so no nearer a new singing yet im afraid

Agree0 Disagree0

If that's the case are we expecting Wanyama to be sold to fund players?

Still good bit of business should we sell them both and get a couple in and clearing the debt.

Sly sports saying fee for ki about 5 million. BBC are saying close to 6 million. Hopefully clear it up soon.

Mclaughlin180

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Heard that NL will not be getting any of ki money as its going straight to pay debt reportedly £5M up on this time last year ... surelly not

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2012 15:06:41
Now that we know Ki is definitely away good luck to the boy. Now we move on, we need another striker and a centre half. We have lost too many defenders in the close season and they need replaced. Also up front I know Stokesy scored some important goals for us like when we were 3 down to Killie but in my opinion he is maybe better playing off the front. He does not lead the line well and doesnt score many headers. I wouldnt get rid of him cause he is a good player to bring off the bench. In the middle we seem to have plenty of cover but its always good to have competion for places.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Posted earlier this week that my fear was that we'd see the Ki transfer fee balancing the books & NL has just stated that the cash may go to servicing the clubs debt ........ think it's now clear that we will only recruit new players if we beat Helsingborgs over two legs .

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed. Can't see Lenny spending the money other than a CF & CB. I'm a fan of Stokes and he needs decent service and he'll get us goals so I'm sure he'll still be with us this year.

Certain Henrikson will come only if we CL money.

Have the people who are slagging the potential signing of Dobbie not seen our opening 2 league games? We have hardly created a chance and struggle to open teams up. Dobbie isn't a striker, he plays off the attack and can pick a pass. A fitter and more consistent version of McCourt. Will be a great player for us in the SPL. obviously we should be more concerned about buying players of Champions League standard but we have only scored 2 goals in 2 league games and if we want to win the league comfortably Dobbie will certainly be a good addition to the squad

Not a bad player just not what we need just now imo a strong player who can hold up play and hopefully win a few headers would do for now.celts are a young team and will defo get better but a seasoned pro would help(not potential)

He's better than certain forwards at the club certainly - he's just like a rubbish christmas present though, i'd rather have the cash.

Agree0 Disagree0

You have not been watching the same player as I have. He can't get in the Swansea team! He only made 7 Premiership appearance; lets not kid ourselves, we are not getting a Premiership striker (or off the front man). He is not what we need!

For those who have a problem with buying The Daily Record /Sunday Mail and the other rags, you can read these and most other papers free and legally at wrx.zen.co.uk

Stopped reading them a while ago mate. Usually scan the back page when I'm buying other papers to see what drivel they are running with that particular day so I may use this site to spare me the brass neck of someone seeing me reading the sh*te.

Ki is off to Swansea cash plus dobbie

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Maybe Swansea have a few other squad fillers we could get in to tie up the wages we freed by getting rid of Loovens and co. I would far rather see Watt get a chance than Dobbie. Surely this won't happen!

Agree0 Disagree0

Dobbie is rubbish we need better than that

Agree0 Disagree0

I constantly see people mention tony watt, he's an ok player, nothing special! The boy had a dream debut, and we get the occasional sighting of him. His initial shot might have set up our goal on Saturday, but before that, his first touch was nothing short of woeful. dobbie might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the guy has played in the championship for he last 3 seasons and has done well. Not a champions league signing, but neither is tony watt. Dobbie is more than good enough for the spl.

Daily Mailicious reporting £5.5m plus Stephen Dobbie for Ki. I hope this is more ridiculous reporting as why would we want a 3rd rate striker and a deflated fee. £7m is what we can get so hope we don't budge for a penny less.

Sorry but dobbie is not good enough we need sum1 better than stokes n thts us going back the way if we get him in ma opinion

dobie isnt any better than the players we have got .. its a big target man we need to sign and quickly going by that display at the weekend .. although i still think rhodes would be a great signing too , im sure NL knows what he wants and WILL hopefully get the Ki money to spend .. any thoughts

Agree0 Disagree0

Is dobbie any worse than murphy or bangura?no he's not. He played terrific in championship last year, which is a better league than spl.

Agree0 Disagree0

Dobbie would score goals, not the signing I want or that we need though. Big target man is what we are crying out for.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he has only got a year to go on his contract. If we start this don't budge stuff we could end up with nothing. A player is only worth what another team is prepared to pay, not what papers say he is worth. Better with something than nothing.
