Did Commons get some sort of injury or did he come off as a precaution because of his injury in the Inter game. I can't think of one other reason why he would have been substituted. He was by far our best threat going forward.
And also don't think we'll get anywhere near £10m+ for Wanyama if any EPL teams were up watching him
Hopefully with another game under our belt and some better final balls / finishes we'll get a couple of goals over there

Wana was playing out of position and I hope they don't want him because of it ,because if we get into Europe he could help give us Arun in Europe

Decent footballing performance middle to front tonight, big vic is never ever a Centre half.
We need a clever experienced striker as much as a Centre half.
We were knocking the ball around well, left to right, in to out and so on but the movement from Hooper first half was shocking and got worse when he and Stokes were on. Countless times Forrest,Matthews, izaguirre and commons were looking to cross and we're flat footed and stationery in the middle. Its like they are expecting to be pinpointed in a crowded area by a wide man at full tilt with only a glance to assess options.
Need a striker who thrives on lateral movements and goes in behind.
The biggest bug bear for th fans I would imagine is were only a couple of pieces away from being a well drilled dangerous opponent on the continent, but its the same bloomin pieces as last year and the year before and it wouldn't cost the earth to rectify.
Must have been 45-50k attending tonight, first competitive game this season. The fans will keep our side of the bargain by coming to games, history shows this, so where's our reward. Five mil total for three players won't lead to a dodgy yorkshireman owning our club and its belongings will it?
No! Money out board

Very rusty, i agree hooper needs to lose a few pounds, hopefully with another game under out belts before next week, we will have enough to deal with the away leg. I certainly would expect to score over there. They were the team that were toiling as the second half progressed. Just need to get wanyama out of the centre of defence, let.him sit in front of the defence and tell him to stop trying to sell himself. The only reason he missed mathews out with that pass in the.second half is he is trying to pit himself in the shop window. Need izzy tracking back, thats what caused the goal, mulgrew getting sucked out to cover him. Keeping the faith, HH

And you know what what Wanyama is thinking now yeah? Perhaps the reason he missed the pass is because he maybe misjudged it a little bit?

At the bare minimum Mikey the big mans been reading too much of his own press, trying to be too clever too often. Same against inter and Norwich, I'm of the opinion his heads been turned.
Its more courteous when disagreeing with someone to state why you disagree Mikey, rather than simply being sarcastic. You know what they say about sarcasm and its level of wit I imagine.
The Guy only contributed an opinion which is more valid than you're basic retort. Forums mean discussion not prepubescent humour

Lose a few pounds? seriously ? , , the bhoys are coming into a competitive game straight from pre season, where as helsinki are midway through there own season.

Larsson has spoiled us. Every striker we have will always be not good enough. Scott mcdonald banged goals in and so did hooper and both are slagged off every week. We need to lay off a bit. Thought hooper did ok first game of season. Scored showed well and won us some good free kicks. Linked up ok with midfield. Never going to be sharp as at this stage. But as long as he is giving us goals then the rest will come. Sick of all the negativity all the time even when we win. Good result and played well as a team. Some mistakes but for our first game champions league al take it hands down.

Jamie the big man has been reading too much of his own press ? I saw a quote from a Celtic fan stating he was worth 25 m ! Lots of others stating he is a world beater. celtic bought him for just under a million and he has had about 8-10 good games for Celtic. Maybe hes reading silly daft comments from his own fans.

Lol nameless poster you have just repeated what I said albeit in more depth.
Wanyama is not a journalist therefore any of his own press he is reading will be from fans and pundits in papers and in forums.

Although we had plenty of opps to score yet again we're in deep trouble due to a sucker punch in defence. When is our leaders and I include dermot in this that lack of ambition will cost us. Been screaming out for about a decade for a commanding ch n here we r again. Fan support unquestioned, lawell???

I think with another game under our belt, we will be comfortable enough to get through. Hooper has clearly been on an all inclusive holiday though. Looked miles overweight. Begs the question- if we needed some "proper" games to get sharper, why not play home and away vs Motherwell over the last couple of weeks? At least they would have had something to play for, and it would have been in both teams interest to have a couple of proper games. Just a thought.

What we needed the night was a striker like sutton hartson or V.O.H

It wasnt the defence fault for the goal it was just a unlucky deflection after a good save

We are not in deep trouble we won 2-1, this is a team 18 competitive games ahead of us and it showed for parts of the first half and in our slack finishing when we caught up with the pace of the game ,yes it will be tricky next week but we should be good enough to go through , i do agree we need an experienced cb and we need another cf who offers something different to stokes and hooper .,,,,deep river bhoy
Agree0

We would all love to splash out on new players and its clear that a bit of cash for a quality CF and CB would make a massive difference. However i think the way that Lawell has run the club and financed Lenny's signing whilst all the teams around us have imploded then you can't really question the guy. I feel safe with him running the club and unfortunately this is the new reality. Rather be in our shoes than 'The Rangers/Sevco/Club12'

If we had the two players we have been begging for we would have won comfortably, a Central defender and a big powerful striker and I think we would have run riot

First of all well done to the bhoys, good result lets finish them off in the second leg!
That being said i dont get the logic in only buying players if we get past helsinki, we need to improve the squad the defense is poor its as simple as that, everyone can see it. If we stick to the defensive players we have we'll lose alot of goals in my humble opinion.
Buy the fecking players we need now and stop stalling and penny pinching im sick of it!!
Agree0

Again you are having a go at peter lawell and yes he does have a first name, first game and a win , yes we need a centre half and a striker but so does every team in europe , most of the quality will not want to come to spl so peter lawell has a very difficult job and i for one thinks he does it very well but i suspect he could get us puyol and you still would lambast the man

Don't think PL is responsible for signings.Cash is made available at the start of every season. We seem to have managers, including Lennon who don't see a CB as a priority.I agree with most posters on here.I think a CB is a must but we'll see who Lennon buys.
Agree0
Disagree0
I stick by my original post and if you don't think we're in trouble then look at our away record for a start. Your confident we'll keep a clean sheet then? Spare me the comments about ending up like that other mob as well by spending money. I'm not asking for £50 million here. Ivan Ramis was/is available for about £3m, he'd shore up that defence quick time. NL has stated since the start of this year that there was money to be spent then changes tune and toes party line about having to sell first. Fed up of it mate. A mix of quality scouted young talent with a couple of experienced players what we need. Even if we had to sell why not get rid of Ki when we had the chance, there's your money for a top defender. No, as usual we'll try and get through by the skin fo our teeth and then what? A loan signing too late to bed in and we get knocked out in last qualifier? Wake up ffs. Steveo Dundee
Agree0

IMO PL is doing a great job with Celtic and financing NL. I think our manager knows his priorities as he had signed a CB pre-season but the polish lad got a bad injury and the deal fell thru. As for Ki while he is away on olympic duty I don't believe any deals can be done. Hbhoy

Believable5

Sorry, McCourt is useless. Once in 10 he might get past a couple of players, but he is not at the level required. I'm sure Kilmarnock would love him, but for me he is a terrible player.
Agree0

McCourt should move on, I Can't believe that they were singing don't sell McCourt in a cl game! Save it for the spl cause as soon as they started singing about him we played s**t, we need to support the team and not one guy like McCourt. And because of the fans singing lennon listened to them a put him on, and did nothing like always, i mean we already had stokes on to play selfish that we didnt need mccourt as well. we need to end this dumb love for him and move on cause he has talent but is just not good enough for us, I would rather kayal or twardizk to come on then him, he had too many chances and 1 good move out of 5 games means nothing for our club. Stop or else don't complain when we lose cause nl listens to the fans and brings paddy on. {Ed007's Note - Mate I'm not McCourt's biggest fan but he came on in the 86/87 minute. It' called running time down, it's a popular tactic used by managers, knowing one run into the corner from a player will kill time and either end up as a corner or at the least a goal kick allowing the team to regroup and et their stall out again. It is used quite regularly believe it or not.}

How can fans come on here and slate McCourt and yet chant for that useless lump that is Samaras??
Agree0

Ed I do know what McCourt came on to do and how football is played but the thing I was saying is kayal, twardizk would have made better plays. Paddy gave up the ball on a few runs that gave them a few chances and I'm sure nl chose him cause of chant. {Ed007's Note - With the game winding down I doubt the fans pressured NL into bringing on McCourt. As for singing about a player rather than the team, I would rather a song about a player than some of the songs from our old repertoire.}
Agree0

THE BEST THING ABOUT MCCOURT IS THE SONGS ABOUT HIM!!!

Samaras is about one million times better than mccourt. He can play 90 minutes for a start.....
Agree0

What is all this Jim White being spouted about Paddy? If he was given a chance rather than 3 minutes he'd have done much better last night than Sammi (4/10) Forrest (0/10) or Brown (3/10). I cannot stand James Forrest! He is the most over-rated Celtic player ever and has got worse since he burst through. He hasn't played a decent game since last year. Lennon sees himself as the guy who discovered Forrest and will play him no-matter what. Just like Tommy Burns couldn't see how bad Peter Grant was.
If Paddy got Forrest's game time then he'd be our best player most weeks.
Anton {Ed007's Note - He isn't fit enough to get Forrest's game tie Anton, that has always been the problem with him. Peter Grant was at CFC for 15 years, I don't think you can blame TB for that one.}
Agree0
Disagree0
Ed, I think given a run of games Paddy would be fit enough to give us a good 70 mins on the wing most weeks. I bet I'm proved right come the end of the season that most Celtic fans will want shot of Forrest. I'm not blaming Tommy Burns for Peter Grant, I'm just saying that he loved to play him even though he was a pub footballer. I loved Regi Blinker and Enrico Annoni, so I'd have done the same with them and played them more.
Anton {Ed007's Note - I don't see it happening for McCourt at CFC, sorry Anton. Look how long he has been at the club, it's not just NL that has played him sporadically.}

Morten Rasmussen has left Celtic to return to his native Denmark, agreeing a switch to FC Midtjylland.
The striker has signed a four year contract at the MCH Arena, ending a spell with Glasgow that saw him unable to make an impression in the first team at Parkhead. The transfer fee has not been disclosed.
Rasmussen had joined Celtic in 2010, with then manager Tony Mowbray spending a seven figure sum to attract a player who had been a prolific scorer with Brondby.
The forward, who has five international caps, failed to win a regular starting spot and when Mowbray left Parkhead, Rasmussen found himself on the sidelines as he did not fit in Neil Lennon's plans.
Subsequent loan spells at Mainz, AaB and Sivasspor proved largely unsuccessful and though the player stated on several occasions his intention to fight for his place at Celtic, it was made clear that he was free to find another club.
The forward will now look to rebuild his career in the Superliga, where he was a regular goalscorer with AGF and Brondby.
Rasmussen told Midtjyllands official website: "FCM is an exciting club that plays attractive, offensive football.
"It is a club that is fighting for the top spots, and it is a style of play that will benefit me."

Right. We all set Bhoys and Ghirls? Last i heard there was around four thousand tickets left for tonight.Brilliant, lets get the place rocking tonight as i think we really could influence matters on the pitch.Seasoned internationals have left Parkhead stunned by the atmosphere,Footballing royalty, maldini,Eto,Ronaldhino and more have walked away eulogising on what they witnessed. My own favourite? YNWA v Barcelona, stunning, and still brings a lump to my throat every time i see it.Even O'Neill looks stunned on the clip.In the last few years, thanks to the Green Brigade,we have added to our song book, but tonight, around kick off, lets return to what our support are famous for.YNWA,show the Finnish players they dont just play our team on these nights, they have to take us all on.In lennon we trust,Time to step up and show our players what, and who, they play for.We could make this a very special night,im sure we are up for it!..........green jhedi

Even though other games have given us more glory for me the best I have felt paradise was the Valencia game which we lost on pens. Valencia had an outstanding side with Ayala,Gonzalez, aimar etc.
The left back carbone was some player, he was having to whistle for the ball that night, literally, such was the noise in the stadium.
I do have a point and this is it- in the mestalla we chased thin air all ALL night, we were being outclassed to say the least but big frasers dad, ran, pulled at least two out the top corner allied with numerous other exemplary saves also. this was easily, very easily his best performance in his career.
Two Weeks later and pretty much the same line ups took to the paradise turf with the only noticeable difference, before kick off, being the setting. Realistically we thought we would be beaten as frasers dad couldn't play so well again.
Well he didn't but the fans stepped up to the plate, singing was heard from minute one til the death.
We done this and the players took that much from it that we outplayed a superior side, and were only a missed pen by the king away from going through without the need of the shootout lottery.
Whilst to no avail in the end up its an illustration of what THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD can do, I strangely find it hard to have any regrets about that particular evenings outcome because its the greatest feeling I've ever had sitting in amongst the greatest.
Helsinki will struggle if the place is booming big time
Come on bhoys and ghirls, let's make more of these precious memories. It is after all an obligation we have to those before and after us which needs to be done.

You might have thought that the demise of rangers,and the part new media played in it,would have brought a new more balanced style of reporting on football in this country.Sadly,no.Graham Spiers,a journo who i always thought provided pretty fair summations on the game up here,has now joined the ranks of Celtic baiters and doom mongers.Harping on about the attendance v Inter,which lets not forget was a friendly,is the very worst kind of non reporting. Apparently,when you are at Celtic Park you can feel the "unease",That Lenny finds his job"half as exciting without rangers",and many Celtic fans who"revelled" in rangers disintegration find the season ahead less enticing.Some perspective please Mr Spiers.In two friendly matches,a couple of days apart,at the tail end of the Glasgow Fair,in the eye of a financial storm sweeping Europe, we attracted around forty thousand fans.As a lesson in perspective,Southampton,newly promoted to the lauded EPL,in the first glamour friendly of the season attracted FIVE thousand to their game V Ajax.I think Mr Spiers has been doing too many gigs with Hugh Keevins, as his nonsensical ramblings appear to be contagious. But,as usual,the worst offender is our very own James Traynor. In his editorial headlined" Scottish football needs Celtic to march on in Europe",in the first paragraph he mentions Celtic,then goes on an Anti Reagan/Doncaster rant regarding the handling of the rangers situation (which to be fair was a shambles) for almost the rest of his piece,before remembering he was talking about Celtic and returning to his original topic.This must be a slow news week eh? If only there was a story worth reporting,imagine if a high office bearer in the SFA had to receive police protection after death threats,now that would be a story.Imagine if a heroic figure of a defunct club,who was rabble rousing a few weeks ago,had dropped out of sight after various rambling diatribes against the defunct clubs new owner.Well,you would chase that story eh? And so to McCoist.Remember his legendary"kick us when we are down" nonsense,or jardines"we wont forget " childish ramblings? Well consider this."Killie fans should take monopoly money to the game today to help them out". A tweet from Dean Shiels before the last Killie game at ibrox. The player McCoist has just given a four year contract,worth over ONE MILLION pounds. Seems that laughing at rangers does pay for some people...............green jhedi {Ed007's Note - Spiers is the lowest form of pond-life GJ, I find Leggless a more entertaining read!!}

Spiers has sunk to new lows. Not one person at Celtic interviewed, no Celtic supporters interviewed, yet he can arrive at the conclusions he has.
The guy is a total tool.
And to do this on the day of a major Celtic European game just shows how disgusting the man is.
I'm certainly up for it this season, even more up for it than the previous few seasons. But hey, Speirs wouldn't want to even try and understand why.

Seen a couple of papers are running good news stories about Scottish football, reporting how the £13m per year tv deal is a massive cash boost....I then click on the records website and they're going with 'Massive Cash Blow' as SPL lose £17m on TV deal! just typical of that rag to put a negative spin on everything. The lost revenue equates to less than £285k per year for each SPL club, its barely going to have major repercussions and cause the doomsday scenario we have all been warned about. I am sure every single club will manage just fine

We really should be making our feelings towards this toilet paper known. Traynor,Jackson and the rest of the ibrox mob that write for this bog roll dont even try to hide their love for the Goven mob. we should set dates where no one buys this ars3 wipe

The DR are being particularly negative ever since the whole thing with that football club they used to support.

Totally agree, why don't we hit them where it hurts most, in the pocket. Every Celtic fan should NOT buy this Excuse for a rag that openly displays nothing short of cronyism, to a shower a cheats on a daily basis.
Hit them in the pocket in the hope the likes of Jackson, Traynor et al, will be shown there jotters as they will be surplus to requirements.

I am no expert but what I can take out of it is this.
The deal is 17m less over 5 years.
An additional £3m will have to be paid to the SFL during this period meaning £20m less in total.
£20m over 5 years amounts to £4m a season.
Divided between 12 clubs this would be about £333,000 each.
For Celtic this would be the equivalent of one squad players wages per season. Celtic have already trimmed their squad to the tune of upwards on 7 squad players.
For other clubs this would be more severe as the smaller ones could be looking at 5 + 1st team players.
HOWEVER, the tv money has always been carved up so as Celtic and Rangers get the largest share. With Rangers deceased, unless their chunk is going to one other club, then the impact will be a lot less.
Therefore, for Celtic you are probably looking a no real impact, for other clubs it will be a bit of a hit but one that could be made up easily by getting an additional 500 or less through their gates on matchday.
My conclusion - Rangers death will have little impact on tv revenue.

£285k is a lot for most SPL clubs! maybe not for Celtic

Ha Ha - not only id there a reduction in monies but the reduced value would have been much less if a number of Rangers games weren't included. As Mr. Keevins would say it's "smell the coffee" time 'bhoys'

They've taken 5 rangers games, hardly dominating the airwaves?
Or should that be polluting the airwaves? Lol

Think about the money all these SPL clubs will save in policing, stewards, damage to stadia etc without them!
Then take a listen at the hate filled songs that were ringing round Brechin on Sunday and spare a thought what all these small towns and some villages will endure when the bears that ruined Barcelona come calling!
