Good performance from main guys tonight (wanyama, brown and Wilson) izzy not the player he was and could have caused us problems with some dodgy passes. I would like to have seen watt instead of miku or even hooper, as I rate him above them on recent performances and I think he would relish the occassion and trouble the benfica defence more. Good first point, though I think all three were there for taking. Looking forward to spartak game.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Watt in the first cl game in years? Come on maybe a late sub but he is too young and has only started playing spl in 3 or 4 games, if he was in and messed up I'm sure ppl would say why is he in cl. And Miku was one of the best players tonight and like what he brings to us. C-Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Judging by last night, they way we finished when hooper came on , was the way we should have started.
Mulgrew had no pace to get up and down that left flank, and with izzy being post missing miost of the time, you would have rather had him at left back, with commons then linking up with 2 strikers.
Miku..looks short of match fitness, but in time he'll come good...but defo not a lone striker...Plus u see the impact hooper makes in link up play when he came on.
Defo thought big lassad would have been brought on, as we were never much of an aerial threat last night.
And in defense...lustig didnt actuallyl look that bad at cb...much better than what he looks at full back.
big wilson....reminds me of bobo...1 min dominant..the next in cloud cookoo land.
Wee forresst, is starting to remind me of mcgeady as a 1 trick pony...jsut knocking the ball by the defender and running.
u notice how we miss keyal and ledley at times...and its saddens me to say this but big sammy aswell,.

Points on the road a big must....but if anything spartak showed that barca are not unreachable.

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate it when people say aye but he's too young to start this game or that game what a lot of bull....... Pele won the world cup at 17, messi was scoring for fun against real madrid at 17 aswell. If you're good enough you're old enough! Next you will tell me... ah he's a wee bit small for a centre forward pish

Agree0 Disagree0

Last post, watt is no messi or pele! Obviously if they are good enough they make it as Lennon has shown this and is why watt has played more in spl. You do know cl is against the best in the world right? Watt looks good but is still progressing and would like to see more games in spl before he enters the cl. You are probably one of the ones who want to see McCourt play in cl? Just because the kid has done well in spl doesn't mean he is up to cl, but I'm sure Lennon might give him a little time in it but that is alOt of pressure on a young one.

That was a good game as I see it we put on our second best team with all the injuries, for if we had samaras kayal and Ledley it could have been an extra boost for runs and shutdown power and subs to put on. Cm looked like a supper star in mid and steps up when it counts, izzy lost his touch and needs to work harder and smarter(he is best on d when he makes a run rather then mid, think the injury realy messed up his game)but in all I say great game to open ppls eyes for we were up against a team who just made 70mill on 2 players and our club in early 20s doing well in most of there first cl game, seeing how our most expensive player might be 10mill and they have players with 45 mill out clause.

To the green brigade we need a song for Forster and Mathews to show them they are important to us so they don't think of leaving, and miku looks to be a great piece for us if we had better strikers to work with him however maybe time will make him jell with ppl. Miku could be something special and if we have a buy option think we will make a move, he will give hooper a big challenge to work. C-Bhoy

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Didn't see a thing that made me think miku provided any danger. watt the best of the lot-including hooper

dunno if any 1 will agree but wee forrest again like sat was utter sh1te a dunnno why he was kept on just coz he has pace ? av always said a dnt think hes anywhere near as gud as what hes made out 2 be should hav took him off last 15/20 mins flung lassad upfront as an extra threat

Sadly I feel it's 2 points dropped rather than a point won, we really needed all 3 points tonight. especially when you see the quality of football that was played in the Barcelona Spartak game. Only Broony and Wanyama put in the sort of performances you would expect especially when you consider that it's a Champions league game!, we showed very little creativity & were toothless up front, Matthews, Lustig, Izaguirre & Forrest all had very poor games, whilst Forster saved us with 2 descent saves otherwise it could have been a lot worse! Come on Lenny lets get a consistent team out & push on in all competitions.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've been saying this for ages now - Forrest is the new Jamie Smith/Ross Wallace/Niall McGinn. He's over-rated and needs to be dropped for the starting 11 until he improves. I doubt he'll ever get any better though.

Anton

Agree0 Disagree2

Here here anton well said just back from the game to derby just under 300 mile ,lenny has to drop him to idle same as izzy both this season so far pure ****E...derbycelt

Agree0 Disagree0

My god you boys have jumped on Forrest quickly. That was his first match in the big competition and he was completely marked out of the game, your jumping the gun here boys. I think it was as frustrating for Forrest himself, as it was for us to watch him play. Really there was a lot of pressure on him tonight as our only outball, or dynamic runner, who could take on Benfica, and when he was marked out, we didn't have somewhere else to go to, i.e Samaras. We missed him tonight, with him on the pitch we would have stretched Benfica far more. Another thing, the service to Forrest all night was garbage, Mathhews, keek.

Forrest has a had a frustrating couple of matches, but im sure that'll pass and he'll get his form back in the league and champions league. I think yous lads need to get off Jamsies back and settle down.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Is it just me, or do the two players whose form has been coming into question, look like they have put in a bit of beef? (hooPer and Forrest?)

Agree0 Disagree0

Mathews had a poor game?? What game were you watching? He won all his tackles and was never beaten. Thought he had a good game. Campsie Tim

Agree0 Disagree0

"Matthews keek" ...your having a laugh right...if not you couldn't have been at the game. The only two last night who didn't get pass marks were Izzy and wee Forrest, both of whom can do much better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree mate, 2 bad games and he's a bad player...usual with celtic fans! The boy is 21 and has far roo much pressure on him week in week out to performe! An the guy that said matthews had a bad game, u must of been watchin something else...if it wasn't for him nico gaitain would have caused problems for any other full back! Don't have a clue! Wilson was decent but took far roo many chances trying to get out, could have cost us, izzy needs dropped, not played well at all this season...but what can we do..no back up except muldini an he's best at cb, no pace the be LB when we want a overlapping full back! Hooper needs to warm the bench for a while aswell, he needs a kick up the backside, yeah might have looked ok last night but against spl teams he looks lazy!

Agree0 Disagree0

Matthews did OK defensively, but i think he passed the ball to forster more than he did moving forward. He gave us nothing as far as goin forward, and really left Jamsie isolated, he never gave the ball away but still he never took any risks goin forward and jamsie suffered for it. I put it down to inexperience.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Quak is a good name for you cause you sound like a quak lol, did you every think that Lennon told him to stay back? Because we are up against the best in Europe and not players of the spl maybe lennon told him don't go up as to keep them from having chances on net. For when Matthews did move up we were left open and they attack us where he had to run back and catch up. Some pll just like to pick everything bad and not see the good things the players were doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm glad u like the name. I think your the one being negative about the team, I know matthews is capable of producing some goods on that right wing, but he didnt last night, whether lenny told him to do that or not, i think you need to take risks in europe to get results. Im generally pretty happy with last night, being the first for many, but you dont get anywhere in europe by drawing games. I can see using such tactics against barca, and in last nights game kinda, it being the first for most of the team, but you need to be adventurous in europe.

By the way i was in here defending James Forrest in the first place, hardly picking out the bad in players. Always look on the bright side of life.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

Your right Quack you were defending Forrest and I feel benfica made sure not to give him much room(2-3ppl always around him) for I think they were worried of his runs and what he can do. But to say am may have been the problem is wrong in my opinion. Your right in we should be adventurous in Europe to get the 3 points but on opening night in cl in a few years since we been in I think to lose the match would have been hard on the club and fans. So Lennon and team got us a point to show we are no push overs and I'm sure Lennon will be more aggressive as the tourney goes on for he will try and get us into last 16.

Im a bit disappointed tbh.thought we could have pressed them more than we did.dont think they looked any better than us.izzy is done.not the same player.broony was immense, and matthews just gets better and better.need to get him on a very long contract.this could,ve been our best chance of a win in this group, and we just didnt do anywhere near enough.and whats happened to forrest?hes went right off form.badly miss sammy and ledley.hope both back soon, artybhoy

Believable8 Unbelievable3

I,ll tell you whats wrong with forrest he,s not as good as many fans think he is.and no im not from the other side .i cant believe at times the way some people go on about him im sorry but for me average at best.

Although we never got the ideal victory there were a lot of pluses - especially a superb Brown and Wanyama masterclass. I think Izzy and Jamsie need a wee 'holiday' until they recapture their form, as the crowd are geting impatient and they continue to be well short of their best.
In fact it was one of Izzy's many mistakes that caused Vic to be booked and be more cautious.
The defense was worthy of a clean sheet although big Wilson need to stop trying the Beckenbaur impressions and keep it simple. (My High BP canny handle it).
Why does Commons have to take every corner?
I know Charlie Mulgrew is a goal threat, but his delivery is superb and Commons could hang on the edge of the area for loose clearances? Anyway;
The Bhoys done good but we have got to keep up a consistently high level and hopefully get some of our injured players back soon.

Believable5 Unbelievable3

Listen we are a team who graze on scottish soil we had 4 players out tonite .

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said, totally agree ,think Commons was up there with Brown and Vic and would also put Matthews up there with superb performances. Was getting frustrated myself with Commons taking all set pieces when Charlie could of swung a few in. Overall held our own against a very good side........Stevie

Agree0 Disagree0

Forrest is being treated the same as mcgeady IMO. They both have undoubted ability however they both play/played for us at the stage of their careers where they were developing and should have been getting nurtured by the coaching team.

Sadly for the two of them they also play/played in a team where we pretty much rely/relied on them solely to be our spark, the match winner, the difference between us and our opponents.

I think we need to learn from Aiden. He frustrated then dazzled which led to more frustration as we began to heap the expectations of our successes on him, and at such a young age too. He's only 26 now btw-.that in itself tells you he was cutting his teeth still at us even though he was first choice.

I think Lennon is bearing this in mind though as I think we would have seen more of Mcgeouch were it not for his broken jaw. Mcgeouch will get game time, this is a very. I know the lad is young also but it at least spreads some responsibility from wee shooders shoulders whilst allowing the pair of them to push one another.

That's very much izzys problem for my money, first season establishing himself, new contract, second season injured, third season he has zero competition for his strip.

nl has a worrying blind spot for young forrest , and would like to have seen young watt for miku with 30 to go ,brown outstanding , and given injuries decent enough start,,,,,deep river bhoy

Having watched Forrest for near on a year and a half i have saw him play two good games! Has not improved in any way and suffers from the steven naismith syndrome everytime he cant get past a player he throws himself to the ground!

I,ll take that draw. Saw a lot of confidence in the bhoys tonight. This is why Scott Brown is our captain and this why Wanyama is so highly rated. This draw should shut a lot of bitter bears for a while.

Totally agree. Broony was immense, felt Wanyama's booking put the shackles on him, Forrest and Izaguirre poor, draw a fair result, we will get better when Sammy, Ledley are fit. johnbhoy79

No Hooper and a few others missing so it does limit our choices and obviously our chances a wee bit.
Lustig in because of his height - not his ability as it seems Rogne still out of favour with NL.
Does that means Matthews and Mulgrew in midfield? Or are we playing at home with a back 5?
Whatever team shape we go with I hope the Bhoys are fully focussed and give it their all - as that's the least we can ask for. A huge crowd to lift you like no other atmosphere on Earth. So no nervy starts or silly mistakes and absolutely no passengers tonight Celts.

Come on you bhoys in green

Hi ed,
Whats the news on Noe Baba, the Irish youngster, highly rated, are we going to sign him? Heard a rumour he was the trialist who scored against Blackpool.

Ed007, Any more details on the trialist from yesterdays bounce game?
We've heard a few names mentioned now but still we're none the wiser as to who it was.
Cheers!
HH
/BB {Ed007's Note - I would say it's Baba. It was a youngster and I seriously doubt that Skacel would accept an offer of a trial.}

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Guys,

I can't be ceratin if it's Baba or not, but the story I've heard is that, the youngster is already signed, but the club haven't announced it yet officially for legal reasons.

Apparantly he was the winner of the 2012 Irish 'Football's Next Star' competition, hosted by Nicky Byrne on RTE, with the prize being an academy place at Celtic.

The reason it hasn't been officially announced yet and is being kept under wraps is because the final of the TV show hasn't been televised yet.

Expect it to be public knowledge once the final of the show has been on.

Morning Ed,

it feels like xmas eve with teh CL game tomorrow, i am buzzing already! Can not wait!!

One thing you could perhaps answer is the Ibrahim and his lack of chances? Do you know why this is the case? I thought he was a great capture when he first signed and fully expected him to get into our first team immediately and fully other youngsters like Wanyama and Mathews to confirm a reg start.

This season we have made plenty changes and still no site of him. Do you reckon he just isn't good enough?
