Neil Lennon plots sensational January loan move for L.A. Galaxy forward and USA international Landon Donovan. Donovan said to be keen on maintaining his fitness levels by playing competitive football. Has joined Everton on two-month loans for the last two seasons and could join Celtic on a similar deal. Wages would not be a problem and Champions League football is said to be a big attraction to Donovan, who has never played at that level before. {Ed007's Note - I can't see that happening, if anything he will go back to Everton.}

Believable13 Unbelievable16

Doubt it very much . I personally hate loan signings I don't see the point if they're not going to sign . Keane , Bellamy , Ljunberg were total wastes of time and I think NL has learned his lesson with Ljunberg . Why sign a player for 2 months ? ...........DH

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't think Bellamy was a waste of time lol

Richybhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Loan signings are only good if you win the League. Keane, bellamy, Ljungberg done nothing for us. Wouldn't mind Donovan,but would have to be a permanent signing

Samson

Agree1 Disagree0

He'll be back at Everton if anywhere, especially now that Felliani will get a hefty ban.

Agree0 Disagree0

Bellamy was a waste of time . We would have won Scottish Cup without him . Missed a sitter at Fir Park that would have sent us to a league victory........DH

Agree1 Disagree0

Moyes said over the weekend he wasn't going back for Donovan (not convinced we'll try to sign him either right enough) Keano and wee Bellamy done allright for us Lungberg was a waste of a jersey right enough!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree ljunberg was a waste but he wasnt on loan?? ,.,.kbary

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with much of what is said above but to describe the signing of Landon Donovan as" sensational" I dont think so .He is not what we need and certainly not a sensational signing he would never put bums on seats either.I would like to see Jordan Rhodes at Celtic Park and a midfielder in the Lubo mould.

Just to note Celtic got on Sports Personality of the year 2012 tonight when they were reviewing the best uk sports teams. Footage of Celtic beating Barca, going into last 16 and rod crying went up. Also a joyous Lenny.

Team GB and Paraolympic GB won.

Believable15 Unbelievable1

An evening of awards for sporting excellence and sporting integrity, with a live audience of 15,000 sports athletes and prominent guests. Celtic up there on the five big screens for all the right reasons. Broadcast on BBC to millions domestically and internationally. Well done bhoys.
Hail hail.

Its a fantastic achievement, I still get nervous watching the Barcelona game again at Celtic Park. Its was magic :-)

Thats what sport is about, pride and passion which Celtic has in abundance. ~ Mrs E

Was surprised not to see Sevco V Elgin, Celtic V Barca was only Champs League.

Evening Ed. I read on this site that Hangelaand was out of contract in the summer. Do you think we would be in with a sniff if he doesn't sign on again with Fulham? We could probably use some of the CL money to give him a top wage and he could be the experienced, classy CB we're after. Also have you heard any feasible rumours on January comings and goings?
Kevbhoy {Ed007's Note - I like Hangeland Kev, he would be great signing but he is on around £50k a week at Fulham, I suspect he will sign a new contract with them. I don't really see much happening in January, Ian Holloway wants McCourt to sign to Crystal Palace and there are still murmurs that Miku could go back to Spain. I think January will turn out to be more about keeping our players than adding to the squad, unless somebody significant leaves that is.

******Ice Man I am waiting on somebody getting back to me about Vicenzo Iaquinta's situation. I will post it a.s.a.p.}

Celtic set to make a 3 million pound offer for 22 year old Ajax striker, Kolbeinn Sigrsson in January.

Believable14 Unbelievable14

This guy would be an unbelievable signing. Traveled to Holland in April to see Ajax play and he came off the bench and scored on his return from injury. He's a great player. Sadly I can't see Ajax letting him go, unless it's on loan.

hi ed, any idea if those who bought 3 match euro package will get any preference for next round? im hoping we avoid germans. cheers danny {Ed007's Note - Season ticket holders will get first refusal of tickets.}

Believable3 Unbelievable0

Danny not having a go at you . but i've been at 3 cup ties this season where there was about 15.000 crowds . if we get to the finals i'm willing to bet i wont get a ticket for either . because i dont have a season ticket . shammy

Agree1 Disagree0

Ive been to all our cup finals in the last 3 years. I just buy a ticket for the Semi's and they always then offer me a final ticket.

No problem shammy. just suppose its one of these things, i dont have a book but really dont want miss out next round after going group games.

Just reading online about plans to merge the Russian and Ukrainian leagues. In my opinion, that would be a very good league with Shakhtar, Dynamo, and the good Russian clubs. Hopefully this is only the beginning of merging. I enjoy watching the SPL, but I feel that Celtic deserve more than the SPL now. With our stadium size and the support we have, I believe we have the potential to be a huge player in European football. We're in the last 16 with a shoestring budget. Imagine if we applied our philosophies and had the appeal to attract top young talent?
What do you think Ed? Any further talk regarding the Spl or Celtic merging with other domestic leagues?

Cheers,

Ontario Bhoy {Ed007's Note - There is nothing new regarding CFC moving and the Russian/Ukrainian merger was only the personal opinion of Russian Premier League head Sergei Pryadkin:

Its possible all 16 Russian [Premier League] clubs will compete and all 14 Ukrainian [Premier League] ones, Pryadkin said.

Then we will have to think about creating a second group or some sort of other option.

Pryadkin stressed he was speaking in a personal capacity and not on behalf of the Russian league and three clubs who have announced the foundation of a committee to draw up a plan for the Super League, CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg and Anzhi Makhachkala.

He said he was personally against leaving any top-flight Russian sides out of the new league.

I would really like all 16 to play. It would be the rebirth of the USSR championship, he said, adding that the league would also have to have some form of promotion and relegation system in order to stay true to "the sporting principle."

UEFA's stance on the subject has not changed. Anzhi have already stated they have no intention of meeting the FFFP regs and are more than happy not to compete in the CL, perhaps that Russians and Ukrainians think there would be more money to be made from a 'Super League' than their CL involvement and more are willing to give up places in UEFA competitions to push this on.}

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Thanks Ed. On the ball as per usual.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed The way i perceived it was that Zenit St. Petersburg and the like (old USSR) wanted a league without the others Anzhi Makhachkala (Dagestan), Kazan (Tatarstan), Terek Grozny (chechen), Mordovia Saransk (Mordovian) etc. I've only recently started reading and learning about russia so i could be wrong about old/new russia. {Ed007's Note - Russian history isn't my strong point either but that is the three clubs that have formed the committee.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, never knew about Anzi's stance.
They seemed a bit of a joke to me before - more so now. They don't even play their home matches in their own region, which is no doubt bigger than Scotland.
More money than sense.
F*@K Me! the world is definitely upside down with that last statement...............kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

Like many others, I want Celtic to compete in a better arena but the Russian league is so ridiculously corrupt that I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't suggesting we play in the Russian league, just wondering about mergers. Imagine, playing in Russia? I can barely handle the bigotry coming from the other end of Glasgow! I would like to see us playing with the Dutch however. It would be a stronger league with a serious concentration on youth development.

Ontario Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Kbt178...anzhi do actually play their home games in their own region, they just dont train or live there during the week. think they have something like a 1,000 mile plane journey to home games

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm Celtic through and through and I don't want us to leave the SPL at all at any point. I don't want to go to England and be a mid table nobody ie. Fulham/Southhampton/Stoke. I would rather stay in the SPL where we are and win the SPL every year and go for 10 in a row (good time to try that with sevco out the picture) . If we were in England then we wouldn't win it over Man u or Man City ect. because we won't pay quarter of a million pounds a week wages and they will. That would mean no champions league and last 16 and we would hate not having that chance!!!!!!!! We would hate no European football and less trophies. We are kidding ourself on if we think the grass in greener down south, I hope they never accept us down there either. Lets just dominate Scotland forever and get champions league football every year and do 10 in a row and win the Scottish cup every year and the league cup too every year :) I can't be bothered to go to England either to watch us play, it's too far and too expensive. THE GRASS IS NO GREENER DOON SOUTH. Hail Hail Fran :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Fran you have no belief if our team if we played in the epl with our stadium fans history and sky money we'd attract top players and compete. I take it your still only a young little bhoy with your thoughts,.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

Anzhi are from Dagestan. I would walk Moscow every morning to minimise the time i had to spend there lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear Mr, Kbarry

Just because my opinion is for keeping Celtic in Scotland doesn't mean I'm "a little boy" . I'm in my 30's so no need for such comments just because you are in front of a computer my good man. Aw the best Fran :)

Agree0 Disagree0

All this talk of celtic moving leagues is nonsense. Why would we want to?
We have a team which has proved it can compete in the champions league, who knows what a bit of luck and a kind draw could do for us over the next few months. We compete for a league title and 2 other trophies year on year, with a great cahnce of having started a record breaking run.
If we joined the english/welsh premiership we'd either have to sell our sould like city or chelsea or we'd be like liverpool or arsenal, fighting to finish 4th every year- thats not for celtic.

Also to the poster who said he hates bigotry but would happily join a league with dutch teams- are you having a laugh!! nazis, anti-semites, white supremicists and the like - netherlands is rotten to the core.

Well said Fran

Morning Ed- Do you think we might try and move Stokes on next month or risk loosing him on a free transfer? personally I still think he can do a job for us up front I think he has improved as a player since being at celtic park. However the choices he is making off field is not just giving him bad press but also the club. I also know of another 'get together 'he attended a few months ago that didnt make the papers. He maybe still has a bit of growing up to do. Ian L {Ed007's Note - When Stokes signed for CFC in 2010 Ian, it was widely reported that he signed a four year deal, plus our databases are showing that his contract expires in June 2014. In saying that it wouldn't surprise me to see him move on, more likely it will be the summer though.}

Believable4 Unbelievable3

Stokesy was ththe guy who changed our fortunes dont forget .the killie game set us on the right path and if it wasnt for him lenny would be long gone.

Agree1 Disagree0

Remember being at a game when Stokes was on loan at Falkirk-raved about him ever since! Always wanted to see him in hoops but his off-filed discipline makes him his own worst enemy. Really hope he fixes up over next few months and gets a new contract as I really believe this is his last shot at the big time. If he comes back good it will be like a new signing.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sounds as if the powers that be are trying to get him out. Your probably right they will probably wait until he's back playing and scoring before they move him on. Ian L

Gordon Strachan set to be unveiled as new Scotland manager on Wednesday at Hampden Park press conference.

Believable21 Unbelievable2

Hope this is true. Exactly what this country needs a manager with a proven history of doing well with at least some clubs.

Just hope he selects different players and leaves out all the dross, especially players like , Webster, Berra, Cowie and other lower level championship players. Let Kenny Miller retire peacefully in the MLS.

Time to bring in some pace and have Johnny Russell in the squad

Kev T

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with all of the above. I would be delighted with that news. I was worried it was going to be Dalgleish.

Yes bring in the Johnny Russell's to the squad and start with Rhodes from now on before Kenny Miller. Mulgrew deserves a chance at centre half for Scotland after winning player of the year from that position last year. Levein never played him there once, but that just about adds up doesn't it. No more Webster. No more token Ian Black caps either. Sevco only have one player who proved he could cut it at international level before they went for a burton...Lee Wallace! and his form is suffering because of 3rd division football and pitches. Templeton wasn't deemed good enough by an ex Jambo international manager when he was playing at Hearts so I expect that to stay the case. Hutton better start getting some game time aswell because Strachan won't pick him unless he's playing.

About time.
