With the season nearing the end how would use sum up the season for me there's been a lot of positives the European run, winning the league and hopefully the cut though a do feel we need quite a bit of improvement in summer and may need to spend a fair bit if we want to compete in cl next year as a feel our defence is quite weak and we could do with an out and out winger and a strong physical striker up front and hopefully our home form will improve as some home performances have Been poor thoughts?

Who would you rather see come in the summer!? For me I'd be pleased with Adam le fondre or Charlie Austin but with our record of finding talent may hike the price up a bit! Will we shell out to get them!?
Ambrose needs to go he's not good enough, I'd have a fully fit mulgrew and Lustig start in the centre of defence! Thoughts!?

Leigh Griffiths will come in on a cut price deal from wolves along with Christophe Berra on a free.

Forget any player playing in the premiership. It will never happen. They could drop to the championship for more than we could offer. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with green jhedi! I've said it time and time again stay away from the EPL high wages no value for money gone are the days we can buy a Sutton from Chelsea for 6million we need to stick to the plan and keep unearthing gems from overseas!
I do agree that Ambrose is not a defender a good player on the ball but thinks he is Pele at times maybe a midfield roll is the future for him I like Mulgrew and Lustig but not as a Central Pairing we need 2 commanding Center half's
I would snap up a few of the young guys in Scotland for the future Falkirk had a few good young lads on show I like the look of young Jay Fulton the boy Harris at Hibs also looked good and then there's young Gauld and Soutter at United I may be bias as there both from my home town but they have big futures ahead of them word on the street is Manchester United had scouts watching both yesterday!

Agree1 Disagree0

I like Ambrose. I know a lot of you guys see him as a bombscare which can be true sometimes, but I love that he wants to play the ball out of defence rather than belting it up the park. He has the confidence to do it, I think he just needs some coaching as to the amount of times he tries it. I hope to see him stay, and work on these areas because i'd much prefer him to Big Dan/Caldwell and day of the week.

Melb Bhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

The defence needs a major revamp next season priority being 2 central defenders. Mulgrew is no where near good enough and should be shown the door with Wilson, Ambrose and Rogne!

Agree0 Disagree1

I think Ambrose has too much football for a centre back, he tries to play his way out rather than clearing his lines, I think he could do a job for us in midfield if Victor leaves, Mulgrew has had a disappointing season by last years standards, he has been accommodated in the team at times when he should really have been dropped, also I think Izzy would be better employed on the left side of midfield which would help his more natural attacking instincts,
I think we need to strengthen for our Champions League qualifiers, I think we need a goalkeeper as I don't think Zaluska is good enough, 2 centre backs, a left back, midfield cover, a fast skilful winger with good delivery into the box and 2 forwards.
My suggestions are.
Randolph (M'well), Dixon (Hudd'fld),
Milosevic (AIK), Jansson (Malmo),
Murphy (Crewe), McKay-Steven, Russell, Daly (all Dundee Utd) and Le Fondre (Reading) I know Daly sounds a strange choice, but against SPL teams he would be very effective and get goals. ,
Outs.
Zaluska, Wanyama and Hooper who want to move on, I'd loan Dundee Utd some of our younger players ie The Twardzik twins to get them game time and experience, I'd just cut our losses with the likes of Daryl Murphy, Mo Bangura and sadly to say Paddy McCourt who has undoubted ability but not the fitness to get in the team, Miku who doesn't suit Scottish football, these players I suggest wouldn't cost the earth and would be covered by the sale of Victor and Gary, what do yous think?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ambrose is clearly a right back, and a good one too. We need a center back, or two in the summer. Hooper's already out the door as far as I'm concerned. He seems to have lost any will to play for the club.

Quack

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Dixon would be a good signing

Agree0 Disagree0

"I think Ambrose has too much football for a centre back, he tries to play his way out rather than clearing his lines"

In a nutshell mate, your statement sums up the problem with Scottish Football. You slate Ambrose for playing too much Foootball. Bring back Big Dan then?
My personal pet-hate is watching a team take centre, pass back to the centre-half, who looks around then looks up - and thumps it all the way to the opposing centre-half!?
You can coach him to defend better. He has natural football ability.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think you always need a CB who can play and a CB who has a more no-nonsense approach, Mulgrew fits the former in my opinion but I'm not sold on Kelvin Wilson as the latter, excellent at times, but prone to more than a few howlers. Efe is a good squad player, covering CB, RB and CM, We can use him to back up Mulgrew and Kelvin too back up a more dominant player as yet unsigned.

It's time for Lennon to drop Wanyama, Ambrose and Hooper. Their performances of late have been dreadful. Victor has lost his passing and strength yesterday I saw him out muscled on numerous occasions WTF. He clearly doesn't want to be here but who's going to buy him. Hooper is just as bad never he's not a quality striker and not go enough for the CL outclassed by juve didn't cause them any problems. Rant over

Believable12 Unbelievable10

Oops yet another one. Sopotcelt

Agree0 Disagree1

Every one has a few bad games in a season, Wanyama is the best player that's been at CP in the last 20 years, Larsonn is the second best and Hooper is the best striker since Larsonn, Efi just needs to concentrate more, it was Lennons fault for playing him after flying back from the Africans nations cup, and that game affected his confidence.

Agree0 Disagree1

@2. I agree about Wanyama and jury still out on Ambrose but OP is absoloutely correct on Hooper. Not enough movement to cause Juve any problems and now virtually none in box. (he was up against a 16 year old! on Sunday). Too slow and overweight since season began. I think you will find he will sign the big money deal offered by Celtic as nowhere else to go in summer except possibly championship. On current form he should be dropped. Now just frustrating to watch. Dhanbo

Not one to moan, especially with our excellent form in Europe this season but I'm getting really disheartened with Lennon. His knowledge of our opponents and his match preparation are top notch and his defensive and counter attacking tactics in Europe have worked brilliantly but he cannot pick a team with an attacking mindset. I've never known players form to fluctuate as ridiculously as some of these players yet Lennon sticks with them rather than take a chance with another player, we have some excellent young players who would walk into most SPL teams but are stunted in our development squad as Lennon plays 'his' players out of position and out of form.
Charlie Mulgrew has been a below average performer this season as he is shunted around left mid, centre mid, left back, centre back. This guy was an award winning centre back last year but Lennon in all his wisdom has decided on Kelvin Wilson and Efe Ambrose at CB, regardless of form or talents. It's this stubbornness that gives us a team lacking creativity, width and pace as positions are filled by a 'who you are' mentality, I don't mean to pick on Mulgrew as I think he's actually a very handy CB and a fairly adequate emergency LB, but guys like Hooper, Ambrose, Wanyama, Commons, Ledley, Forster, Mulgrew, Samaras (who have all played extremely well at times, but also have gone through really poor spells) need not worry as they will be straight back into the team for the next game, even at 75% fit. In Scottish football a lack of experience can be replaced with desire, determination and fearletvess which Watt, McGeouch, Twardzik, George etc would inject into a team of older heads struggling for form or motivation.
However, it's hard to expect such flexibility from a man who spends his time taking offense to every single question he doesn't like the sound of be it from the media or his own fans with such witty retorts as 'you shut up' or 'if you question me again i'll walk away'.
I won't get started on his signings, he has done okay but for every Ledley, Wanyama and Matthews there is a Lassad, Bangura and Miku.

Believable13 Unbelievable7

You make some good points and in a few games we have surrendered easy possession by being too elaborate or just running out of ideas.
I like Celtic teams pressing the ball and attacking with flair and most of all pace.
But we are very predictable at times and opponents often score from counter attacks while we are spread wide open.
There have been a few passengers too many and NL just accepts it and if it wasn't for Commons' goals lately he would be under fire I think.

JJ

Agree1 Disagree0

Put your name to the post then we might respect your view. I agree with most of your post like Mulgrew (is never a midfielder ) but Ledley has been dropped for some very important games to accommodate mulgrew. I would pick strikers from the CFC woman's team before I would pick Miku and Bangura they would more fight and could score goals than these two. But a Celtic team is after all a Celtic team and whom ever puts on that jersey should get our support no matter what.

Haha no worries mate, just a bit of banter.

The comments were from various times I've looked at his twitter page and had to cover my eyes in embarrassment as he barks, argues and growls at any fans who dare question him. I know he's been through a lot and gets a lot of abuse but he needs to remember that some fans just want to voice an opinion maybe even let off a bit of steam, after all we are the ones who buy the tickets and jerseys and whatever other merchandise.

Your probably right regarding signings, the scouting network should be praised but I guess my main gripe is i'd like to see us bring in a few Scottish guys who will stick around for 6 or 7 years and form a bit of a nucleus in the squad and also who understand how to play in the SPL, your never 100% what your going to get from a player but the odds are much better if he is already a stand out player in the same league as you.

So the reconstruction is off. Strong rumours that there will be an SPL 2 breakaway. Is this the game Gilmour was playing? Where do we stand if The rangers, as has been pushed for weeks, are "invited" to join? For me I would be sending an e-mail to Mr lawwell to clarify our clubs position. If these teams don't want change, leave it as it is then. No SPL 2. What we are seeing here is, once again, every one bending to get The rangers out of trouble. So let them continue their "journey" in the second division. Then the first. There must be no more talk of ANY reconstruction till they work their way to the top league. The Aberdeen chairman has slated the decision claiming selfishness from certain clubs and the impact would be felt "in weeks". We all know the clubs he mentions, but the in weeks quote is interesting. What could he mean? No sponsor and the TV deal being slashed? I look forward to Mr Lawwell's statement. green jhedi

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Whatever the rejected proposals were or however imperfect they were the rolling out of the bigoted ex players and the comical Keevins to slate them is enough to prove whatever is going on stinks to high heaven. IMHO They really are underestimating Mr Lawell and Mr Desmonds resolve here. They, and by they I mean those who are working to thier own selfish narrow minded and flawed agendas will rue the day. Sopotcelt.

Agree1 Disagree0

A nice twist would be, yes start spl 2 by invitation. two leagues of 10. the current spl minus st mirren and ross county. and the present ist division from top to bottom. st mirren and ross let them join the sfl. i'm sure all 1st clubs would vote it in

Agree0 Disagree0

@Sopotcelt; I would hope your right mate. This whole charade stinks to high heaven. It's just emerging that the reasons Gilmour cited for voting no, the 11-1 voting system, would be changed to 9-3. This was still knocked back, it seems for whatever reason he just was not having it. This despite agreeing to it in January! I don't think it is to unreasonable to assume he has been "got at". By who we probably will never know. But remember a pal of whyte's was rumoured to be buying Saint Mirren? Their still for sale.

Lawwells statement is crucial, he has season books to sell. Pretty much every fan will be furious at this vote. I'm not one for boycotts, and would respect every fans right to go to games, but I will not be at St Mirren or Dingwall next year. I get the feeling I will not be alone in this stance. green jhedi

Agree0 Disagree1

The 2 that rejected the proposal had made it public beforehand so it was doomed then. I wonder if there were any others - you know who I mean - that just voted Yes as an empty vote just to play along?
I am so tired of the shenanigans and under the table deals masquerading as League re-construction just to levitate lazarus loyal?
To be honest I was very apprehensive of the split simply because of the 8-8-8 split nonsense which would have been a farce.
Now we should just get on with it and not entertain whatever 'cunning plan' these horses erses conjure up next week!
I reckon if the leagues stay the same for another year or two TRFC 2012 will never survive and go bust again and that is what's causing all the wee blue guys in wee blue offices to panic.

Jungle Jim.

Agree0 Disagree0

Time for listening is over it's about time we looked after ourselves & burst this charade of incompetent blazers apologists thieves bigots racists & tax dodgers. C'mon Mr lawell we are the one's who were prepared to give for the good of the game whilst some not all just want to take take take, go to war Mr lawell release the dog's of war give them the full barrage it's not like there isn't enough ammo. The time for listening & talking is over defend our right as a proud upstanding law abiding charitable club. Myself I have already started & countless others too it broke my heart not attending yday's cup semi but I will never buy a tkt for hampden again. St mirren the team I witnessed my greatest day out against as a teenager Albert Kidd thank you for your contribution that day, have signed there own death warrant imo. I think a lot of our support won't ever visit st mirrens stadium & who can blame them certainly not me for I shall be one of them, same goes for Ross county. HH AbS

Agree0 Disagree0

IMHO Mr Lawwell and Mr Desmond knew how this dice would fall. They are shrewd men and Mr Desmond is a particularly intelligent man. They have a plan and they are being taken for fools by lesser men. Its not quite a case of the good the bad and the ugly but someone is going down over this and is not anyone at CFC. Ps the opinions expressed above are based on fictional characters ( ie 2 men masquerading as chairman from lesser clubs who are in fact patsys) and any reflection of real events either now or in future is purely coincidental! Sopotcelt

Agree0 Disagree0

AbS. Why do you want St. Mirren and Ross County games boycotted? Lat year when we had the fiasco over what happened to Rangers, we were told, it's what the fans want. Now that 2 teams have listened to their fans again, you are wanting boycotts? what's the reasons here?

The suggested proposals were a shambles. a 12-12-10-10 with an 8-8-8 split has failed in 2 other countries, so why try it here. What happens to team that finish top of 2nd tier. do they get a trophy, or promotion, or maybe even nothing, yet a team 4 places below them can come up. Also talking about fairer distribution of cash. There are teams that can barely fill 2 stands (Killie, St. Johnstone to name 2), yet they will get a higher proportion of money for not changing anything?

I commend the Ross County and St. Mirren for having the balls to stand up and be heard. Something that this country's game has been needing for a long time

Agree1 Disagree0

It seems clear to me that St Mirren boss Gilmour has been nobbled. I seem to remember a while back a story about one of the Rangers directors checking over St Mirrens books.

AC75

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget there has been evidence of collusion between Rangers and Gilmour before. Remember Whyte's plan to buy St Mirren's league place or Green and McCoist making personal representations to Gilmour before the SPL vote last summer.

Gilmour is arrogant and he's small time but I never thought he had a death wish for his business. His stance is all about self interest and protectionism, what if away fans stop buying tickets for St Mirren? I know they are in better financial shape than most SPL clubs but how long could they sustain that drop in revenue? especially with the 'missing' 15,000 loyal fans who were at the cup final.

Agree0 Disagree0

Guys, I posted a reply on here to a The Rangers fan the other week - in which I said it was my feeling there would be an SPL 2, and The Rangers would be invited to join.
I'm not surprised by recent events - except that it is St Mirren involved - and I live in Paisley!

So I say f*ck them all look after number 1. Last time they had big decisions to make over staying with sly or going with a new tv company setanta what happened? Well now that the league is as good as one. We are in the cup final.

It has to be time to withdraw Wanyama and Hooper from the squads. Neither wants to be here anymore and with the performances since the window shut being poor to say the least, more game time should be given to those that want to be here. A great time to rest what is clearly a tiring squad, let the young guns have there chance and if they fail to shine move them on.

Dundee Utd mind you have some right quality Scottish players coming through, 4 of which I would like to see at Celtic. Russell, GMS, Soutar and Gauld.

Its time to stay away from that utter nonsense of an english market and give our own home grown players a platform to excel. Likes of Charlie Austin for £4 million plus is a no no for us, we simply won't spend that and I sure as hell do not want any more of these Rep of Ireland players near our squad especially Kevin Doyle.

We will get 10 in a row and it would be more special if we can achieve this with a nucleus of Scottish talent.

Believable10 Unbelievable3

Kev, not disagreeing but, russell and gms might get a game. soutar and gauld would not. celtic just don't play 16 and 17 year olds. I might be wrong. I think john kennedy was the last, around 2000/01 and before him all the way back about 40 years to roy aitken. we have the likes of twardyk, fraser, chalmers. are they too young or not good enough. no if gauld and soutar want to keep playing spl football { and they look good enough } they won't do it for us. the laddies would not even be bench warmers. shammy

Anyone understand with our defensive frailties why Gershon is being blanked? From what I have seen of him he is strong, attacks the ball and can play a bit as well. Is it the Mulgrew factor as Lenny does seem to favour the big man? For me Charlie has been average most weeks and poor in a few. Maybe a three at the back with Wilson on the right and Gershon on the left?

Another head scratcher for me is Izzy. Is Lenny expecting too much from him? We do play an awful lot of balls out to the wide left, and to be fair he is a willing runner, but are we tiring him out, hence the defensive frailties? With Vic and Beram out for the final would this be the perfect chance to see Izzy up one to midfield? This way he would not have to do 80-90 yard lung busters, and he would certainly tie their full back down. It seems as if we need a re-shape of the team. Add Commons breaking left and Forrest breaking right from behind Hooper and it looks quite balanced to me. green jhedi

I know there were a few complaints about how we should have thrashed United, like the 6-2 game; but this Hampden Hoodoo Hype (fuelled by NL too) has made our players nervy and given any opposition a lift. However, Commons is back to his best and his knack for an early goal has helped immensely.
We make so many basic mistakes at the back and I really think big Forster could alleviate this a bit if he was more decisive and come out of his 6 yd box for crosses etc. He is a giant and should be commanding that whole area for crying out loud.
Saying that Effy and Co are all guilty far too often.
In my opinion Wilson and Mulgrew are our best pairing (as long as Gershon keeps getting ignored?) and Mathews should be back soon to chase big Lustig.
I thought he was coming on a ton, but he is such a wimp and puts on the Agathe eyes when he's had enough and needs to go off - for a cuddle!
Izzy is a great wide player - he set up 2 plus a sitter for Lustig - but needs a solid left back behind him.
Hooper has been terrific for us - until Christmas then he went to Norwich - or so it seems; and a wee token ten minutes here and there disnae count.
Young Forrest has been injured too often and lacks games and confidence; as an on form James would have relished the open spaces of Hampden Park, but he did OK and set up the winner so well done.
There will be a few away in the Summer and I do hope we get real quality - especially up front - as I feel Sammy and Tony Stokes are too hit and miss with the emphasis usually on miss over a season.
Lastly I think we made a big mistake risking the loss of 2 players already on a card as funnily enough they were the only Celtic men booked - while that wee mental stick insect Flood ran amok incidentally.
Anyway in the final again and another title in the pipe-line so let's finish the campaign in style Celts.

We got the result yesterday but I thought the performance was very poor, we were outclassed in midfield by a younger less experienced side, they were better than us going forward aswel, once again I have to question lennys team selection, how long do we have watch players like Hooper, Ambrose, mulgrew just stumbling through games, and couldn't work out what Forrest was ment to be doing, we had v little width on such a big pitch, Forrest kept cutting inside and making no inroads at all, I will be happy when Hooper finaly goes as at least that's 1 of lennys favorites gone, and hopefully we can see more of tony watt, once again i'm left frustrated at lennys poor team selection and poor performance, but its a win but there's definitely got to be improvements from the manager and a lot of the players. hail hail, GOD BLESS THE CELTIC
