Ed- Would I be right in saying that there now appears to be 2-3 clubs falling over themselves to try and sign Ki? More so than wanyama? Personally I think wanyama is a much more complete centre midfielder. If some English team wants to give us 7m for Ki then bite the hand of them. Leave wanyama for another year at least. Ian L {Ed007's Note - Sorry Ian, one of the other Eds left your earlier post for me, I was busy elsewhere. Wanyama is still strongly interesting Arsenal although the Olympics seems to have pushed Ki into a lot of clubs thinking, but it will still take some work to get him out of QPR's reach. The thing is that it was Wanyama and his agent that were angling for a move, either because he does actually want out or wants a pay hike. Ki all along was simply seen as surplus to requirements and would probably be happy to stay if he was getting more game time. One of Wanyama's complaints is that he doesn't mind covering at CB but he wants to play in his preferred position of CDM.}

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Cheers Ed - no worries I know your a busy man. That's right I remember NL put wanyama in his place after his comments. Even if we get a centre half in there is a lot of competition for the two centre midfield slots. Wanyama Brown Ledley Kayal. When Ki does eventually go we will prob sign another midfielder. (not that I'm complaining! I like the look of Heinrecksen he looks as if he's got a bit of class about him. Deep river bhoy would prob disagree. Ian L {Ed007's Note - I would like us to get in someone who can pull the strings in MF the way Naka or Lubu did, someone with a bit of flair that can do the unexpected or spot the killer pass more often.}

Agree0 Disagree0

If there is a bidding war for Ki, shouldn't that be telling us something about his qualities? Personally, I think we aren't the same team when he isn't in the team....reminds me a of another maligned water carrier (lambert). Ki is the sort of player you hope will eventually turn into a Pirlo (even 50% of Pirlo would be enough).

Agree0 Disagree0

I honestly feel ki will defo be sold to average premier league team for bout 7 million and Wanyama will be sold to arsenal for 8million with add ons as a replacement for song. Celtic will then bid for johnny russell

Agree0 Disagree0

Once again someone desperate to get Ki out the doot. He will go and light up the Premier League as he is a footballer while we only seem to want bib Bobo type players. My God he is the best "football" player in teh SPL and we keep saying he is surplus to requirements. I would sell anyone else and keep him and build the team around him, get more football players and maybe just maybe we will find that teams in Scotland can play the game the right way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Huddersfield will play hardball over Jordan Rhodes but if my reasoning is correct, this is what will happen. If Celtic qualify for the Champions League (we will find out on the 29th) then a Premiership club (likely to be Man City or Arsenal) will launch a £10m plus bid for Ki which will in turn be accepted. Celtic will then bid around £6m for the services of Rhodes with one or two clauses in his contract.

Believable4 Unbelievable12

No way celtic will pay 6 mil for a player

its not responsible to spend so much a player that not proven it at a higher level

Agree0 Disagree0

I really hope you are right although I don't see celtic splashing 6 million on anyone. I do think Rhodes would be low risk as i am certain he would do very well and his value would soar, especially if he were to score a few in Europe. Jordan has basically stated this week that Celtic are the team he wants to play for, I for one will be very disappointed if we don't at least make a move for him now

Agree0 Disagree0

I dont understand youre reasoning,if a club want Ki whether we are in or out of the CL makes no difference

Agree0 Disagree0

The bids for Rhodes have been 2mil with add ons so far from the likes of fulham ect so why would wee pay 6mil with add ons..

4mil would be money well spent.. Would be worth 10mil min within 2years

Bendtner said that his first wish was to play in the UEFA Champions League and be able to travel to London to visit his son without any hassle.

He continued: "Secondly I need to be happy. A lot of people think that it is all about the money, but money does not matter if you are not happy.

"I have been in a situation before where I made a lot of money without being happy. I need to be happy when I come in which is universal for everyone.

"You need to be excited to come in to work."

Asked about the final condition, Bendtner concluded: "Playing regularly."

i think we tick all the boxes just need to stump up the milions hh

Believable9 Unbelievable11

I'd like to see how 'happy' he'd be on a wage the fraction of the size he's on. Call me a cynic, but I don't buy the whole 'money isn't everything' mantra that guys like this trot out when they're not starting.

Agree0 Disagree0

The guys not gonna drop wages to come here. He wears no. 52 to let every1 know he earns 52 k a week. Says it all

Agree0 Disagree0

He actually wears number 52 cos he wanted No7,,,5+2=7 and we have a 7
,.,.kbarry

Agree0 Disagree0

He's Crap

samson

Agree0 Disagree0

Bendtner is a quality player and did well in the Euros. He is a little emotional and unpredictable at times but I think we would be very lucky to get him. I have always liked him as a player and he would add something we are missing to the team. Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Bendtner is an all right player, but I wouldnt be happy blowing the small budget we have on him, I think hes a bit of a prima donna. jj

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Aug 2012 21:16:13
NL will bring in the right players as always. I'd like him though to use Paddy more than he does for the following reasons: 1) if he goes we need to replace him and players of real quality in his position cost a fortune 2) as we don't have a fortune clearly, the only possibilities are players like Lawrence and these are mediocre 3) he's class!

Believable4 Unbelievable12

Mate paddy mccourt is pure pi5h, i know this might upset a few but in all honesty when was the last time he done anything. i know he doesnt get too many chances but hes just not good enough. move him on and get henrikson in. far better player with a sell on value.

Agree0 Disagree0

Name a meaningful game that paddys done it in? He can't last 90mins and that's shocking for a professional player. He tries to beat every man now when he gets the ball if Blackpool bid £500k for him again I'd take it!
Campsie Tim

Agree0 Disagree0

Your either from the dark side or off your chump, play Paddy more often. he brings nothing to the table,as for replacing him with real quality that will cost a fortune ha ha ha ha your not Kevin Bridges are you.
Tambhoy ( original )

Agree0 Disagree0

I would get rid of paddy and replace him with tempelton

Agree0 Disagree0

Bangura? K Wilson ? Murphy ? (As always ?)

Agree0 Disagree0

He lacks energy, fitness and he's inconsistant.

Agree0 Disagree0

He has all the skills(and more)needed but nae pace nor energy - play him in midfield where he won't stop momentum. His comfort on the ball won't get him past many of the athletes(which he's not)if he's played as an out-and-out forward. He's a waste of a jersey played wide left .

Paddy Malarkey

Agree0 Disagree0

Imo I would play paddy more often (in the spl) but I'd play him behind the striker not wide left, what people don't notice about him is he's a terrific passer of the ball, probably the best at the club!

Agree0 Disagree0

McCourt is a waste of space, along with the likes of murphy, bangura & wilson. Let them go and free up some wages. At best they are bench warmers.

There is apparently a bidding war going on for KI. If this is the case I very much hope that we ensure we get a transfer fee that is not an insult to our club or the player. Personally I would like him to stay. Julieghirl

Believable14 Unbelievable7

I'd love to see him stay for another 2 years or so as well Julie, but Ki's ability is wasted in the SPL, it wouldn't be fair on the boy to keep him where he clearly isn't cut out for it.

the fact that so many teams are interested in him, and at bids in excess of 7m, despite the fact he's not even a regular 1st team player, just goes to show how highly he is regarded

it's looking like we will be getting around 9m for him

taco

Agree1 Disagree0

I think he would be awesome in the champions league.

Ki must stay!

Agree1 Disagree0

Seriously Ki is ****e, if we get 9m, grab it and run before the Loony Police section the bidder

Iain

Agree0 Disagree1

Seroiusly iain your talkin ****e, ki is a class act, how people think this is beyond me, hes prob the most technically gifted player at celtic. Its no surprise all these clubs want him, must be ****e eh, to ****e for us but good enough for arsene wenger an arsenal.

Agree0 Disagree0

Iain are you serious? He has won plaudits for his performances in the Europa and lately in the Olympics from independent commentators and football men. He plays less well in the SPL because of the hammer throwers and lack of protection he gets here in Scotland. Also he does not fit into NL team set up and formations. Your comment is quite frankly ridiculous mate although of course have every right to your opinion. Sopot Celt

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Iain. Ian L

Agree0 Disagree0

We don't have any player really worth £9m so that would be good business. Ki is one of my favourites but I concede we have too many midfielders above SPL standard.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spot on Sopot. Good deep lying playmakers are as rare as rocking horse sh*te. If we set up in a different way Ki would be outstanding. Because he doesn't fly into tackles and brutalize opposition players he is crap according to some Celtic fans. If we were to keep Ki and play him in the Champions League I think he would be a revalation, look at Pirlo's performances in the world cup.

We have two weeks left of the current transfer window and I am a bit concerned about our lack of activity. I knew that with the other mob getting put into 3rd div our board would not be pushing the boat out re:transfers. But we def need a bit of strengthening in defence. In the last load of months we have lost hooiveld, M Wilson, Cha, Loovens, big Dan, ODea, and the deal to sign Fojut in January fell through because of his injury. I don't want to see Wanyama or Ledley in defence as they are far more effective in the middle. Up front also needs a freshen up with young Rhodes starting to make the right noises. I am 100% behind Mr Lawwell and the board and in Lenny I will always trust. But to say there wont be anything before Helsingborg tie which finishes on the 29th August leaves us 2 days to sign someone. I know the budget will be different from champions league to Europa league but Ki is definitely away which with the bodies that have left the park in the last few months we should still be able to bring in a few bodies champions league or not.
Cheers Hail Hail.

Rumours of Doni(Gk) from Liverpool

Agree0 Disagree0

Ill b with ya on the belfast boat new signings or not!!

Belfast Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree1

Surely if we wait until the last second (as is Celtic's recent tradition) and qualify for the CL teams will know they have us by the balls for any targets we go for. Or we grab whoever a team is looking to off-load from their wage bill on loan which will likely be a random, unplanned grab who you can strategy (probably a right back who 'can play in a variety of positions'). Also, it allows the board to do their usual well we tried to buy a couple of players but ran out of time excuse. Rant over. Good luck in bringing in the right players for the right positions and at the right prices!

Agree1 Disagree0

Here mate, I also must echo these concerns. We have no net spend (prob minus 1 mill?) 8 mill for Ki would cover Rhodes and a decent Centre Half-all we'd need for total domestic dominance and a decent Euro renaissance! PS Ed 007: Long term reader but just posting now as I am concerned about this lack of even percieved activity-cracking site btw {Ed007's Note - Thanks mate and welcome.}

what ever happened to the prediction that the tv companies would walk away and leave us like the welsh or irish leagues. so far i've watched scottish football on sky, espn, itv4, bbc and now stv are showing the game next week. add to that , the highlights are on youtube, and setanta show our games in ireland. and don't forget celtic tv. so a total of eight outlets. sorry x bears looks like tv companies dont do walking away. shamrock

Believable23 Unbelievable5

Tv companies dont do walking away, that is reserved for the Rangers players

Agree1 Disagree0

Premier sports and setanta ireland aswell.

Agree1 Disagree0

Forgot premier sports so nine . shamrock

Agree1 Disagree0

Think you will find they were only going to walk away if the spl could'nt include that lot unfotunatly the spl had to bow down to the tv company's and include them that is why spl bought tv rights to them in sfl3 the stats don't look good for the rest of us sky 30 live spl games espn 30 live spl games thats a total of 60 divided by 12 teams works out at 5 games each sky 5 sfl games espn 10 sfl games that is a total of 15 games that all include them so it seems that even though you cheat you still get special treatment what do you think ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

And why is reconstruction on the cards? SKY have demanded that Rangers are back before 3 years!

J

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm in Singapore and watched Hearts Hibs game
Servco seem to forget there is a large expat audience out there, not just rangers supporters. Mind you watched the last Celtic Rangers game in "Sportsmans Bar" Singapore and was totally disgusted by the bile and venom launched by the locals (true blues). Even Fillipinos and Thai girls (obviously aware of what might happen if the blues lost). Halfway round the world and they still cant let it go

Agree0 Disagree0

and why there a TV Deal? because rangers still got included even though were in div 3, dont be so deluded pal, we have just as much live games as celtic even though were in the bottom tier, i'll say it so you understand

NO RANGERS NO TV DEAL get it?

Agree0 Disagree0

No Rangers a healthier Scotland get it !!

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh and im not on to stir up and argument but if your going to sit and post nonsense instead of acknoledging how bad the SFA and SPL are then you'll never be a satisfied old firm fan, if the SPL said to sky and ESPN we cant include rangers for any live games, ask yourself honestly without ur green specs on, what do you think they would have done? {Ed007's Note - They would probably have triggered the two year extension option on the deal that covered the last 3 years.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Or ed sky may have withdrawn the contract due to not having rangers in the deal?
as there original deal was stipulated on having 4 old firm games, hence why it was renegotiated and is now less than the original deal.

********************************
{Ed007's Note - Sky couldn't withdraw the contract, it was up to the SPL to take up the two year option. Any stipulation regarding derby matches would have broke FIFA regs on broadcasting football. It is easy enough to find out and I am not going through it all again, especially for you.}

Agree0 Disagree0

There was no way the tv deal would have been withdrawn - look at some of the p*sh sky sports have on their schedule - you're telling me they would show this and not spl??? Plus the fact that sky have so many subscribers in Scotland who are football fans - try taking a deal away and see the reaction. The rangers televised games are a by-product - good for the first half a dozen games or so because people have an initial curiosity of seeing big Kyle and Little struggling against the likes of Peterhead but after a short while no-one will care (except gers fans). Steveomac

Agree0 Disagree0

The rangers do not have any many live games as Celtic you fool. Sky are showing 5, yes 5 of your games. I'm sure that they will be showing more than 5 of celtics.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sky cannot and will not nor have not demanded reconstruction of the league. You ate so happy to be in div 3 so just work your way up rather than hoping for reconstruction. Remember you lot do not need anyone!

Agree0 Disagree0

Deoesnt matter how many newco games are on the sfl only get the 1 million that was paid for their rights the spl get to keep all the money so why not exploit them

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree with you Ed regarding the two year option being triggered.
The new deal thrashed out between SPL and P.Lawell is less money over a longer period and that's with the SFL deal included.
So why would the contract for the last three years have been implemented for a further two years without Rangers?
Are you denying that Rangers being in the third division have cost SPL teams money?
P.O.B. {Ed007's Note - Look up any report on the 2009 deal being announced, its there in black and white.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed... So why did the spl not do that then? Prob coz the contract was worth nothing since there wasnt going to be old firm games. This is in the contract and can be found in the same reports you have mentioned {Ed007's Note - Read this very carefully. There was no guarantee or stipulation over derby matches. It would break the rules that govern the whole game (worldwide.....FIFA run the game, not S*y) regarding broadcasting plus it would be classed as match-fixing, you can't guarantee matches in a league that uses a split system, what if one of the teams finished in the bottom six? There was no mention of it in any part of the deal struck in 2009, and why would there need to be a stipulation three years ago, was it common knowledge there was a danger of there never being four derby matches? Use a bit of common sense and think about it. The deal was that S*y got ANY derby matches rather than ESPN. THE DEAL WAS FOR AN INITIAL THREE YEARS AND THE SPL MEMBERS HAD AN OPTION TO EXTEND IT BY TWO YEARS!!!!!! It's not that difficult to understand or find out and has been spoke about countless times. Have you ever thought that the SPL done Zombie Rangers a favour by getting them TV money.....if they had triggered the option then newco had no TV money at all.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed your kidding yourself on and you know it!! do you really think the option to extend the deal was not triggered to help out rangers in these trying times for spl clubs??? know your just being silly lol....if it could have been extended it would have been instead of re-negotiating for less money....unbelievable! {Ed007's Note - FFS, can you actually read???

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/scot_prem/8152874.stm

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jul/16/spl-espn-sky-tv-deal

Google the words 'SPL SKY deal 2009 and read ANY report about the deal. Now give me peace over this, it is there for any moron that can access the internet to openly read. Don't try and make out the SPL deal depended on any involvement of a brand new club, it is the new club that got the best deal out of all of it.}

Fellow Tims!

Looks like Rhodes is begging for Celtic to go and get him, and I would LOVE for this to happen but at this moment doubt it.

I am Neil Lennon's biggest fan but he is forever changing his tune about what money is/is not available and I get the feeling he is becoming a YES man, anything the board say he just accepts.

Are we gambling on CL qualification before we buy? Are we waiting on a sale of Ki or Wanyama? Someone needs to let the fans know, is there money or do we need to source it?

On a side note £5m for Izzy no chance, this boy on form is up there with the top LB's in britain. Let him get his form and fitness back this season and see what fees are quoted next summer I would bet it wll be closer to £10m.

Great work as always ed!

ive been hearing the same stories about ki and rhodes for weeks but what concrete offers have been made for ki since the last rejected one about a month ago and i would love to see rhodes sign but celtic need to act quick before some mid table epl team get him hes a boyhood bhoy and belongs at paradise hh ryanlarsson

Believable9 Unbelievable4

If a player or players go, you can be rest assured that Lawwell will get add ons for future value increase. An 8 million player now will bring in more millions if his value rises to twenty million, from whoever he is sold to.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't want to see KI go.
I'm concerned we could lose KI, Wanyama and Izzy. And perhaps even Kayal.
Lawwell needs to keep this champion team together and still bring in two quality players. We've saved wages on 5 or 6 leaving and have good Euro money now. The players will be worth millions more after euro run this year. Sell one player at Christmas or next summer if we remain in euro beyond Christmas.

Agree0 Disagree0

FFS Vaughan,Lawrence,Ciani,McFadden,Rhodes,Ambrose,Henriksen. All pi$h except Rhodes+Henriksen who will never join us anyway.

Agree0 Disagree0

Considering he basically said he wants to join ...

Agree0 Disagree0

Rhodes will never join? Eh, did you read the news today mate? Try BBC for starters. "Playing for Celtic would be a boyhood dream come true" were his exact words I believe

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rhodes wanted to join your pretty much dead in the water league and play for Celtic and maybe get one CL match, he'd have handed in a transfer request. Saying he's flattered by the interest isn't basically saying he wants to join at all. {Ed007's Note - He would never in a million years hand in a transfer request. Him and the club are happy to wait until the right offer for both of them comes in. He is quite happy to stay at Huddersfield and the club have no need to force his sale. He wouldn't want to upset the club or fans plus when players hand in a transfer request they give up the loyalty bonus that is included in their contract.}

Just reading rumours about Izzy going for 5 million. I realise he hasn't played that well since his injury but I still think we could get a bit more for him taking into consideration his age, ability, previous awards for player of the year. The fact an EPL are involved if correct, the cost should be more. Maybe vaughen plus 5million. Or is that pushing it

Believable4 Unbelievable5

Not pushing it at all buddy, I don't fancy Vaughn but he MUST be better than Murphy, so him and £5m.....DEAL! HH!

Agree0 Disagree0

I hate the fact that Scottish Clubs are held to ransom when it comes to English clubs
offering miserly sums for our players. KL

Agree0 Disagree0

Vaughen is made of glass and won't last in Scotland. He will be injured every other week and I think the link was just to fill up paper space. Izzy would be daft to go to Norwich, they aren't managed by Lambert anymore and could potentially have second season syndrome. They did well last year but haven't re-invested well enough. Izzy is better than 5m and Norwich!

Agree0 Disagree0

I just don't fancy Vaughn, I hate to see these fringe players coming from down south. I bet John Park has a list as long as his arm of foreign players we can get in, who would do a much better job

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't want Vaughan in the hoops, not good enuff too similar to hooper and stokes, and scores half the goals they do! Wouldn't want him at paradise, raise the bar a wee bit please.... Jay bothroyd any1? Much better and he's what wee need, good target man with plenty of tekkers!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd keep all our players until christmas for European football. It will help the team and increase their values. If still in Europe keep them to summer and their values increase more.

STV will broadcast Celtic's Champions League third qualifying round first leg match with Helsingborgs IF.

The game, which will be played on Tuesday, August 21 with a 7.45pm kick-off, will be shown on TV and on the STV Sport website. Coverage will start at 7.30pm.

Celtic are facing Swedish opposition for the first time in European competition, as they attempt to reach the group stages of the Champions League for the first time since the 2008/09 season.

Neil Lennon's men booked their place in the final qualifying stage after beating HJK Helsinki 4-1 on aggregate in the third round.

Their opponents beat The New Saints 3-0 on aggregate, before an impressive 6-1 thumping of Slask Wroclaw in the third qualifying round.

Helsingborg, the reigning Swedish champions from the 2011 season, currently occupy fifth spot and are seven points behind this season's leaders IF Elfsborg.

Celtic hero Henrik Larsson famously had two spells with the Swedes between 1992-93 and 2006-09.

Former Rangers midfielder Alejandro Bedoya also recently signed for the club following an unsuccessful year at Ibrox.
