Celtic make second bid of 4 million euros to SC Heerenveen for Alfred Finnbogason

MikeyBhoy88 {Ed007's Note - 4 million Euros is still the same amount in £ as the reported first bid.}

Believable16 Unbelievable8

I think the bid was upped to 4million pounds ed {Ed007's Note - The Dutch website reporting the bid cites today's SM as it's source.}

Agree1 Disagree0

We're going to sign him just testing them as usual and there's meant to be 2 other names in the mix but everyone is being tightlipped

Agree0 Disagree1

As Homer would say - doh!

Agree0 Disagree0

This has become completely cringe worthy-everyone has known for about a year Hooper wanted to leave, Wanyama also refused to sign an extension dating back months. What is the problem with Celtic? For once treat the fans with a bit of respect, we were told we would re-invest what we brought in, so do it. We know there are other things outwith transfers but surely the champions league money will more than cover that. Take no notice off the Liverpool result yesterday-this squad lacks real quality right through the spine of the team-when injuries/suspensions/fatigue etc bite we will be lacking big time, not in Scotland but certainly in Europe-which is where we should be defined, especially without the other mob. Just one little caveat, I don't see Aberdeen dropping many points so we can't take anything for granted, especially as I said with fatigue etc after european games, we just have to look at last season and that was with Hooper/Wanyama/Wilson! Paul

Agree2 Disagree1

Only way they will get them to accept is to offer £4.3 million as that will match there asking price of €5 million

Agree1 Disagree0

We all need to get a grip as far as these transfers are concerned. The Wanyama issue was very good business by the club as far as I'm concerned. Wanyama was always using the club at a stepping stone for a better "team/league"and by refusing his contract extension when on offer all he done was save the club money as I'm positive he was always going to ask to leave for Southampton regardless of his Celtic contract. Getting the best part of £12m profit was also a cracking bit of business especially as he didn't always replicate the Champions league performances in the SPL. The Hooper deal was also great business £2m - £2.5m profit for a player who will be no nearer the England squad at Norwich but scored plenty of goals overall but think his SPL scoring last season could have been better. Also £2.5m profit on Wilson cannot be sniffed at as again there was no way he wanted to stay albeit for different reasons. Now a chief executive and board that can hold out for that kind of money under those kind of conditions is never going to splash the cash willy nilly but some of the comments about get your finger out and I can't believe we penny pinching and biscuit tin stuff is way off the mark and is exactly the same attitude that sunk the Sevconians. I for one have no place for that in our great club. I, like am sure we all do, want these quality signings but would rather take an extra couple of weeks for the right terms and conditions than throwing everything away in rush deals.

Agree3 Disagree0

I would also prefer Vossen-done it over a longer period(but the same age) he also has a better pedigree. Belgium probably producing the best players in Europe at the moment as well. This time last year Benteke was a bit of an unknown! Paul

Agree0 Disagree0

We do not have weeks to sign the players that we require, the window closes tommorow. The club knew that the players were leaving this window but had not the fore thought to ensure that we had the players in to replace them. Prior to the qualifing rounds of the Champions Legue.

Agree0 Disagree0

Statistically I think the Mail is the least believable paper is it not? Nobody I talk to who sometimes meet people 'in the know' has a clue if this interest is genuine. With persistent reported interest though coupled with tw*tter comments and NLs refusal to dismiss him, I do believe there's something in it. I'll be pleased if we sign him for £5m. Not just because he'll be better than Hooper (stickin' my kneck out smiley) but it's about time that even in our own climate and environment, a club of our stature will go out and spend £5m on a goalscorer.

Agree0 Disagree0

After reading the papers this morning I can't help thinking av heard this story before the club want 5 million and now we won't pay that even though he is worth it and another team (Werder Bremen) will nip in and nab him at a bargin 5 mill I hope am wrong
Samcfc

Agree0 Disagree0

If we don't pay the 5 mill being quoted for an out and out goal scorer I really don't know what's next. As a club we love to put top dollar figures on players when clubs come calling but refuse to pay the going rate for players we badly need. I really hope and pray that the board go the extra mile for this lad and repay the fans with a signing they deserve.

Delbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Just heard the deal is nearly dead, we aren't willing to cough up the asking price or close to it, hope its bull but with celtic u never know, could be true. I thought the window was a time to strengthen a squad, not make it weaker which has already happened, I'm happy with the signings so far but we ALREADY needed those players before the window opened.

S

Agree0 Disagree0

Come on the time for dithering is definitely over, let's get in the players we urgently need otherwise CL may very well pass us by, losing us even more revenue in the long run.

Leicester's assistant manager earlier confirmed that Sean St. Ledger is out injured for between four and six weeks confirming that there is nothing in the rumour he may be on his way to Celtic. St. Ledger also said a few days ago that he wanted to stay at Leicester.

Believable13 Unbelievable5

Sorry to hear about the boy's injury but could be a blessing in disguise for us.Don't really rate him.

Might be some truth in the st ledger rumours not playin for Lester the day. Really hope not

Believable2 Unbelievable13

Craig Shakespeare just confirmed on 104.9fm that Sean St Ledger will out for 4-6 weeks with a grade 2 tear in his knee

According to the Scotland on Sunday, we have bid for 3.25 for finbogason and 2.5 for Doyle. Would be a great bit of buissness for finnbogason at the price, but Doyle
For 2.5, surely not .

Mickeybhoy

Believable10 Unbelievable18

I wouldn't believe the doyle rumour, lenny has practically said he had his chance to come in january. I think we have moved on from doyle to be honest, well I hope we have.

S

Agree0 Disagree0

£2.5 million for Doyle, sorry but that's just £2.6 million too much

Agree0 Disagree1

If it was Finboggason and Sharp, I'd be very chuffed. Daviebhoy77

Agree1 Disagree0

Take £2.5 million from Doyle and get the other striker jelly vossen or what ever he is called and big finn
john88

Agree0 Disagree0

No chance celtic would bid 2.5m for Doyle FACT! We might goto 1m but that would be tops.

Agree0 Disagree0

The price comparison (Go compare!) is way off the mark Finbogasson would start at maybe £3.5m, but £2.5m for Doyle?
That's why we do most of our recruitment abroad as the EPL and Championship are over inflated; like dodgy car dealer style.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not use the money for Doyle to make sure we get Finbogsan (spelling)

According 2 sunday papers we r gona start negotiations about finnbogason the price staring at 3.5m

Bargain

Agree2 Disagree0

If that is true I can see it getting booted out, they want 5 as usual we are low balling. When other teams low ball us we spit the dummy out particularly with EPL teams and teams from down south in general, again we want top dollar but aren't willing to pay it, get the boy in even if when we sell him on we only break even will still be good business.

S

Agree2 Disagree1

£3.5 mill is our opening bid, they want 5 mill Euro - not sure what the exchange rate at the moment is but its close.

Offer it all upfront and maybe they will take it

But like the 3rd post says, typical Celtic low offers, get in a right decent offer and get him in for the next Champs Lge game

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeah we habmve to pay top doller for this lad he has real quality about him and would score a barrel load in the spl and if we divide to sell him on in a couple of years we won't loose a penny c'mon P.L give the fans the signing they want.
samcfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Kev T they booted out a similar bid a few weeks ago, and celtic know this and if I'm correct in thinking the offer they had on table was more than 3.5mil? Could be wrong, if that is the case why would they be willing to accept celtics bid? We will need to pay good money for this boy or risk losing out on him like so many other in the past windows. Get him signed asap.

S

Agree0 Disagree0

Good call S, ffs Celtic pay a fair price for a change, its good to be prudent but not to rip off other clubs, this should have been dealt with already we knew Hooper and Wanyama were leaving.

walkerbhoy.

sad thing is wee had chance to sign him for 400k and being celtic wee waited we heerenveen didn't and now wee could b paying a small fortune.

really hope wee sign him as he's got it and more but can't help feeling that the real chance should have been last year. don't think wee will lose on him though but serious profit missed out on.

Hearing through one of his family that Billy Sharpe has signed, fee in the region of 1million . Good business?

#TopbhoyMM88

Believable10 Unbelievable27

Not a fan of his, but would take him aslong as we had another striker coming in with more quality, but we still need a CB and a creative Midfielder and poss cover for izzy. Liked the look of young Jackson Irvine yesterday held his own against some quality players, didn't look out of place, aftr I saw him I don't think we need to replace big vic so urgently this boy could do a job or us.

Agree1 Disagree0

Thought he was excellent yesterday and my brother said the same to me that lad could do a job where Wanyama left off, because Kayal just not recovered his form from his first season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Young Irvine had Stevie g in his back pocket,
Have we already signed our replacements? They could say mouyokolo(?) re wilson, amido re hooper. Young fisher looked class aswell, ., .kbarry

Sunday papers saying Celtic are set to open negotiations to sign Finnbogason, please be true!

Believable21 Unbelievable6

Hope so, for once they move for the guy the FANS want!

him and a defender and we are on the right track. Got good playerd for mf like rogic, mcgeouch, kaysl, ledley and brown.

Keep derk injury free and its on! would love a wee old(ish) firm in the scottish cup this year ha ha

King Erse

I know, it feels good haha!

Finnbogason, Capuano, maybe a midfielder and Sharp. I'd be delighted with that.

I agree with most of what you said but the Old Firm is no more they died and are a new club we have to keep drumming this message home because they, the SFA and the rags don't won't to

Dannybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Quite right dannybhoy, old firm no more they are a new club, it really annoys me when listening to clyde 1 they mention about getting an old firm game in one of the cups.
Someone ought to remind them that they are a NEWCO.

Mrs M.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like it or not, they are who they are and either way i'd like to see us playing them.

new company perhaps but same fans, same manager and same self righteous, vile patter to boot. the jist of my point was I would love to see our current squad go up against them.

fed up of this "lets call them sevco" carry on which I hear daily in the workplace, its more like "lets make us look like persons by calling them sevco". they are rangers, maybe not the same rangers but they look the same, play at the same stadium, under the same manager with the same fans. beating them would be a good feeling, as it always was.
