I know I'm gonna get a lot of negative feedback here but I hate to break it to you all, Jordan Rhodes is not the kind of player we want. Yes he would score loads of goals in the SPL, but is it really necessary or sensible to go and splash out £4-5m plus on a player to come and play in a league in which there is very little competition. Let's admit it, we all fully expect Celtic to retain the title. Where is the logic in buying Rhodes? I am very doubtful that he could cut it at Champions League/Europa League level as well. What would be better is to bring on some of the younger Bhoys like Keatings and Watt and give Bangura and Murphy a chance in the first team. Have to say that I've been impressed by Murphy's start to the season, albeit he has not had much game time. Was at the Aberdeen game a week ago and was thinking that we needed Murphy on nearer the end to hold the ball up and try to break down the Dons' defence.

Believable7 Unbelievable23

If you think we don't need to buy a striker and that Murphy is good enough, then you are absolutely insane.

Agree2 Disagree0

In my view we have the best man out there for a lone striker role sami. This is his best role for the club and worth 6m+ when playing in this.role. I believe that sami will come.into.his.own.when.playing in Europe.this season.

Agree0 Disagree1

You're right about negative feedback mate....as soon as i read your praise of murphy....you deserve every bit of it! he's an absolute donkey who should never be allowed to wear the coveted green and white hoops, the guy's on a par with wayne biggins and kirk broadfoot as far as everyone with 2 eyes and a brain can see

taco

Agree1 Disagree0

Taco . Vey disrespectful ....The man has a right to his opinion and to be honest in whole his post makes a lot of sense ...maybe not Murphy but some of the other lads ,as for wearing the "coveted hoops"Murphy has as much right to wear it as some of the past and present players ...show some respect ... post 3... I agree with you sir ...Sammy will be our European star whilst other pin up boys are stropping around....TTTS

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought the whole idea of signing another striker was to help us get a decent run in Europe. Also, last time i checked Rhodes was playing U21 football for Scotland so if signed would fall into the 'younger players' category. Finally, if u think Murphy is the answer for a team like Celtic then I'm sorry but u need your head checked

Agree0 Disagree0

If Rhodes can score goals for fun in the Championship he will double his tally in SPL. Check Hoopers stats. Not sure what the 'younger player' comment is about, right now our team'saverage age is 23yrs. As for Murphy, he did do OKl agst the Dons. However he is not a good enough IMO. Hbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice to c Jordan Rhodes career advisor posting ! if he was about to sign would u burst in and tell him not to ? ohh Jordan u r not tested at Europa league level plz don't sign for Celtic ! don't worry Celtic have Murphy to do the damage ! a " striker " with a worse goal to games ratio than Christian nade will make us a formidable opponent in Europe ! if Murphy and bangura makes u happy plz report to Mr lawell for ur obligatory pat on the back and if ur lucky he might bounce u on his knee and share his wethers original with u !

Agree1 Disagree1

Rhodes has yet to play in the championship my friend it was L1 he ran amok in last term, thats third tier in england,.,.kbarry

Agree1 Disagree0

Anybody that rates Murphy is begging to be abused

Agree0 Disagree1

How can you say rhodes would score for fun in the championship if he has never played above league 1 level

Agree1 Disagree0

I think it is fair to say that a young man who found the net 40 times in one L1 season would hav no problems scoring regularly in either the championship or the SPL. As for Europe, we would be taking a risk but don't forget Hooper has never played in CL either and i don't hear too many folk doubting his abilities

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually agree with you regarding rhodes mate, he isn't a great footballer. He's just a good goalscorer and I think he would be found wanting at european level. He wouldn't really add to what we have at the moment and I would like to see us go for a player that is capable of winning headers from crosses but still has decent pace. As for murphy, in my opinion he's not good enough and has been in the shop window during pre seasin.

Agree0 Disagree0

If any club are going to offer 5m + for rhodes - they are welcome to.him. I don't think he has shown.his quality at a high enough level as yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im confused....is this the same murphy that runs about like a headless chicken??he couldn't lace Jordan Rhodes boots!

Agree0 Disagree0

First post in a very very long time but here go's. I for one would love to c him playing for us I think he has the potential to b a 10mill plus provided he continues to bang them in

Celtic67

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree on the Rhodes situation; we can't afford to pay silly money. Although, Murphy is shocking. This is the man who scored 3 goals for Ipswich in 30something games; he simply is not good enough. I am all for giving the youngsters a chance. McGeough (best wishes to him) was fantastic until he was injured, Watt has done it in one match and needs more opportunities, Keatings (I don't know enough about), although we need someone of quality.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure Rhodes is the type of player we need. Yes if we could get him for 2m then take him but not 5-6m I'm hearing.

My thoughts on Murphy are he's either been put on the shop window or Lenny thinks we won't bring a better version of him in so he'll have to do.

As long as Murphy is giving 110% then we must get behind him, Celtic standard or not!

Richybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with what you say, except for Murphy.....the guy is a waste of space and is nowhere near good enough. NL must soooooooooooooooo regret bringing him in!

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not sure about Murphy either. But last year there were plenty not sure about Sammi. Given a run he might come into a game and does offer something different.

Agree0 Disagree0

We will win the spl and theirs not much competition but who or if we sign players will decide whether its won in front of 50 000 fans or 30 odd thousand

Agree0 Disagree0

Kbarry, stand corrected, just got promoted to champonship. Still think he get lots of goals for us. Hbhoy.

ED007, got told today that Dynamo Kiev centre back Yevhen Khacheridi, is
available. Played all of Ukraine's games at Euro 2012.
Obviously he may be out of our price range both transfer fee and wages wise. But do you or anyone else know if we could afford him? Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I have left a message with one of the Eds to see if she can find out anything about him Tim. A few places are saying QPR are interested in him but they are linked with anyone just now.}

Best Wishes Dylan McGeoch ~ Mrs E

Believable10 Unbelievable4

Just in from work. What was the injury? Was anyone else injured?

Agree0 Disagree0

Mrs E, yes I hope he is not seriously hurt, I hope it looked worse than it was but head injuries and being knocked unconscious is worrying.
Also Stokes and Murphy both injured also.
Can anyone explain why we only took 5 subs out there when we knew heat would take its toll. Madrid had 11 subs and apparently have been using them all in most games. Surely we could have taken even some of our up and coming kids for the bench and give them some game time.
In finishing ED007, if you hear anything about young Dylan, please let us all know. Thanks Timalloy {Ed007's Note - He has been taken to hospital with a suspected fractured jaw Tim.}

Agree0 Disagree0

What happened to stokes? {Ed007's Note - He has an ankle knock, and Hooper had a slight hamstring problem.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Get well soon Dylan. Awrite ed here's one for u shola ameobi Do u think we could get him?? Just askin mind lol

Paulbhoy010 {Ed007's Note - His goals to game ratio is about 1 in 5 Paul, and I think you would be hard pushed to get him to leave Newcastle, he seems comfortable with his position at the club.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope he is ok and has a quick recovery! Bu the Madrid player was way late and coming from behind and fast, he had no reason to go for the ball and it was always going to be a bad out come, he should have got a card and I would have given red for dangerous play.
But about DM he really was taken it to the Madrid players turning them around and look as if he was just toying with them, they couldn't shut him down. He was by far the best player and man of the match for Celtic, hope for speedy recovery and no efffects left over for he can help out the squad and expect to see him next season being a key player.

Agree0 Disagree0

GO Dylan god bless..................

Cheers ed Lawd his ambition to warm the bench then lol

I thought the challenge on mcgeoch was absolutely disgraceful, the player was way late and done the young celt big time

Very decent first for a friendly.Nice to see Beram looking fitter and young McGeough must be knocking on the first team door after that display.Very impressive.Wilson, strangely, has shown up well and Rogne was unlucky at the goal. Our ball retention is pretty good so all things considered a good exercise.Plus £ 1 million NET banked. Music to Charlie Greens ears i would think! Looking forward to the second half..........green jhedi

Hey, Ed, how are things? I know it seems I'm looking ahead a bit, but what are the SPL European qualification slots? Do the SPL champions have to play a qualifier etc?

Cheers,
Danjam {Ed007's Note - I'm good thanks Dan. The winners of the SPL for season 2012/13 enter the 2013/14 CL at the 2nd qualifying round stage, a round earlier than this year.}

Not long back from Cappielaw, decent crowd of about 2,000 (Livingstone never had big support) good game 2-2. Have got the barbecue firing up, then going to watch Madrid game, does not matter what score is, although I expect a going over. I see McGeouch getting a start, but no Twardick, Watt, Ibrahim surely this was game to blood them even from bench.
Hope we get decent money for this trip I was told Celtic only getting
£80k plus hotel/flights etc..hail hail Timalloy

Believable2 Unbelievable8

I heard it was a mill

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard Celtic were being paid £2m for this game. {Ed007's Note - I have heard it would make the club £1 million net.}

More like. 800 k. No way it's only 80k

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers ED007, I thought when I got told £80k it was wrong as I could not see how it would make financial sense, but £1m yes. Timalloy

Tbh Rhodes is not worth it. We need a good quality powerful target man not a Gary hooper clone we have 2 players who can do what Rhodes does need something different guys!

Seen today Huddersfield rejected the 2m bid rising to 4m on promotion for Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn. Celtic need to push the boat out and offer 4-5 m plus add ons for him because the money's there and everyone knows it is especially now we look to be goin into the CL which we will get 15m this year and 15m next year from and that's not including selling ki which could also rack in about 8m so come on to feck Lawell stop bull s***ing the supporters with yer fancy letters and stup up the cash for a few quality singings

Believable18 Unbelievable8

I agree with you there mate, lawell is dragging his heels again in transfer market. The supporters deserve better than daft letters regarding season tickets, I've got mine and still no decent signing we were told at end of last season money was there no matter what! So where is it? They said we didnt need the gers in the league to finance transfers! We've been told lies so we will line their pockets with hard earned cash an no doubt have to put up with pointless signings that won't improve the squad. It time lawell put his hand in his pocket and back Lenny for Europe, dont want lie stagnant just cause the gers ain't in SPL....reminds me of when starch an was in charge he never got backed a lot and look what happened...we didn't win a title until end of last season! Lawell get the finger oot!!

Agree0 Disagree0

Relax guys! With all that has gone on this year with the mob and all, the board are doing and have the best I interest of the club. This is a new era and they will not break the bank just to sign a what 7mill player(like some of you's want), this is not our business plan or how the club works. Yes I would want him too but that is just to crazy for us to spend on one person who is in a lower league. What if he is a bust, then all of you would be saying why did he pay 7mill for him. The club will do something, we need to back them and stop criticizing them. Would like some transfers as well and I'm sure they are working in the back round on things.

Agree0 Disagree0

To the OP, not only have you ignored the fact we have Helsingborgs to beat but you have also placed us straight into CL next year having played 1 league game this year! FFS get a grip. Lets get past the swedes and then see about 7m pound signings !

edg

Agree0 Disagree0

MON never bought until near the end of the season either guys and gurls. i think its rather sensible tbh, why fork out cash unless we are in champs league, the squad we have will win spl. but i can guarantee there will be no 7m signings, even if ki and wanyama move on. think the most we would spend these days is 3m..................bhoywonder

Agree0 Disagree0

The op point was invest money and we would be in the group stages lawwell is far too cautious and dont kid your self their is no money nothing that happened to oldco will effect us apart from peanuts we get from tv and thats not much less every excuse to bleed cash out the fans of all years this is the time we should be investing in players that can entertain the fans and give them something to turn up for our attendance will drop this year not because no old firm but because fans are fed up not getting value for money

Agree0 Disagree0

The OP's post said nothing about investing in the team to reach the CL. They stated we are probably in the group stages with £15m in the bank. Also next season we will get the same £15m??? Sorry but IMO this is p*sh. We will get one or two players in wether we get into CL or not, but the amount of money spent will be decided in which euro comp we are in. Hbhoy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that some of it was pi$h but what euro competition we play in will dictate how much money we spend ? its more a case of how much money you spend dictates what competition you play in thats how football works these days and imo lawwells over pre cautious means we will always be bordering on poor same reason we only won one league in last four year against a piss poor rangers because hes always two bob short financially we should have whipped the floor with them and in champions league and we would have been far better of financially than his penny pinching has cost us and the crowds would be bigger .... whats wrong in investing in a couple of decent players and reaping the rewards in champions league and if it fails sell a player because someone will be sold any way and we will be left with another pre typed statement from lawwell on transfer de day " theirs money available and we tried but couldnt finalise the deal " and the money coming in will never be seen again

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope this is just paper talk this morning, Nl saying he doesn't expect any ins or outs before next round. Wondering if this is the only way some targets will come to celtic park, if they are guaranteed cl football or is it us being too cautious. Don't believe john park hasn't got a list the length of his arm of potential targets, already identified.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

If we dont qualify for cl then there is no point in the spending money we have enough to win the spl at a canter, maybe even the treble...jimthetim...

Hey Ed, not a rumour but just a few opinions.

Me and one of my mates got talking today about potential John Park-esque signings (Wanyama, Kayal, Emilio etc). We done a bit of scouting (Admittedly using youtube and football stats as resources) and came up with a few suggestions. Hope some of you have heard of these guys and could maybe give a more rounded opinion on them:

1) Jonas Ivens - Belgian Defender, CB, 27 years old, plays for FC Groningen in Holland. Has made 52 league appearances since signing for £500,000 in 2010

2) Kensuke Nagai - Japanese striker, 23 years old, plays for Nagoya Grampus in Japan. Pacey, tricky forward who scored twice for Team Japan at the Olympics. Reported to be interesting Celtic a few days ago. Has 13 goals in 29 appearances for Japan U23 team.

3) Solvi Ottesen, Icelandic Defender, 28 years old, plays for FC Copenhagen in Denmark. Icelandic international has played in CL proper and was offered a trial period at CFC in 2009.

4) Omer Damari, Israeli Forward, 23 years old, plays for Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel. Has a £2.7million buy out clause in his contract, and scored 17 league goals last season. Has 2 goals in 4 games for Israel national team.

5) Toto Tamuz, Nigeria-born Israel International, 24 years old, plays for Hapoel Tel Aviv. Has scored 34 league goals in 2 seasons, and made 61 appearances in that time. Has 10 Caps for Israel, and has scored twice.

6) Jelle Vossen, Belgium Forward, 23 years old, plays for Genk in Belgium. Has 53 goals in 119 league games in his career, and 9 caps for Belgium.

7) David Lafata, Czech Republic Forward, 30 years old, plays for FK Jablonec 97 in the Czech Republic. Has 63 goals in109 league games for Jablonec and 18 caps.

8) Alexander Soderlund, Norwegian Forward, 25 years old, plays for Haugesund in the Norwegian Tippeligaen. Has scored 26 goals in 53 games for Haugesund. 4 caps for Norway.

9) Alfreð Finnbogason, Icelandic striker, 23 years old, on loan at Helsingborgs IF from Lokeren. Has 53 goals in 106 career games and 7 caps for Iceland.

10) Kim Shin-Wook, South Korean Forward, 24 years old, plays for Ulsan Hyundai in South Korea. 6ft5" striker who has scored 41 goals in 115 club appearances.

11) Dennis Oliech, Kenyan Striker, 27 years old, currently a free agent. Has 31 goals in 38 games for Kenya.

Hope anyone has any extra information on these guys and opinions are welcome, it took a while to compile all this so feedback would be great!

Danjam

Believable11 Unbelievable5

Have heard of a few of the players there. Been watching Nagai at the Olympics and he looks like he could be a good addition to the squad. If I remember rightly that we were after Damari around this time last year and the deal fell through because of his agent. Doubt we would get Vossen - Premiership clubs after him. Not convinced by some of the other ones. I think people are going slightly over the top about getting a new centre back. We have Rogne, Mulgrew, Lustig, Wilson and Wanyama that can all play in that position. As for a forward, I am not convinced that Rhodes is the man. Will score bags of goals at SPL level but I fear that the step up from Championship to Champions League will be too great and he might just flop. We need a top striker with experience, preferably a target man, but would settle for someone that can bang in the goals and play at the highest level. If I'm being honest with you, I would make a cheeky wee bid for Robbie Keane. He's 32 and in the peak years of his career. He's also made his money in the States through sponsorship deals etc. If not Keane then we'll definitely have our eye on a few big targetmen. HH!

Agree0 Disagree2

Some good players coming out of Israel just now, and so far a relatively untouched market, maybe your right with a few of these players?!

Impressed with your research. Hh

Number 11 defo looks a good option.
time well spent dude

Agree0 Disagree0

I no that vossen is a very good forward same type as hooper and stokes though. Soderluad is one I think we should go for. Very strong and got a bit of pace quite different from what we've got. And also finnbogason is another that is worth a punt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Decent list mate, well done.

Are you trying to do john park out of a job?

Tried to reply earlier dont know what i did wrong probably forgot to send,, 1, ivens solid , seen him a few times when we where linked with gronqvist 2,nagai i dont fancy 1 in5 avg for his club
3,otteson wasnt he on trial with us?
4,damari he knocked us back
5,tamuz looks v good great scoring rate 1 in 2.5 but similar to, hooper and stokes do we want 3 the same type?
6, vossen another v good player, too expensive probably
7, lafata not bad scoring record but 31 and also similar to hoops and stokesy
8,soderlund he is a strange one , until last season he had only scored 3 goals in his career, watched him while his team played henricksons he put in a good shift and mixed it up with their defenders
9,finbogason another v good player but on loan to helsingborgs (his namesake who played for us is currently top scorer in icelandic league)
10, wook , looked ok on you tube but a bit cumbersome was a centre half but was moved upfront because of his height, a goal scoring ch if we bought him eh ?
11, oliech has a record in france of 1 in 6.9 games no thanks,, im not sitting bored in the house , honest,,,,deep river bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

I had Ivens at Celtic on FM12 in my 3rd season and he was a great player, so based on that I'd say he's worth it haha! But with all respect, Vossen is out of our league. I'd love to see him come, but hes a 10mil+ striker! Good list, though! Greg

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah thats what im talking about, number 11 finbogasson and vossen yeah,

peter griffen "i know a man with a broke down Hyundai" for that reason i couldnt support the player lol. he has looked good on utube as previous said but many do.
