Hello, fellow Celts. Another impressive win today. Glad to see players like Christie taking their chances when they are presented. We really seem to kicking it up a gear, and I was just wondering if anyone else has wondered about Scott Brown's impact on the center of the park. Is it possible that his absence has actually been a sort of blessing in disguise? What I mean by that is - I wonder if his injury has given other players a chance to step up, rather than play a cup game or a home game against the bottom half of the table. I think Scott Brown is everything that a Celtic player should be, but has anyone else thought about this, or am I way off? Looking forward to hearing from you all.

Was going to pose a similar question. Either way you cut it the tempo, energy and ultimately the performances speak for themselves over the last few games.

2.) 03 Nov 2018 23:51:01
That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s down to Broony. Think about the hammerings we dished out to Sevco last year and the tempo of our game in these fixtures when Broony was instrumental in our performances. It’s inevitable that he’ll bow out at some point in the next few years and it’s great that we appear to have his successor already in place but I think he’s still got a good year or two left in him.

3.) 04 Nov 2018 00:20:36
I agree, as much as I love Brown I don't think he can expect to walk straight back into the starting 11 on current form.

4.) 04 Nov 2018 01:33:13
It will be interesting to see who plays in the middle of the park when all of the center midfielders are healthy. The way certain players have picked up the slack, it seems like a nice problem to have. Hail hail!

5.) 04 Nov 2018 08:43:10
I don't think any player should walk straight back in to team, especially when we are flying but I don't think it's down to Brown being out that we are.
Almost every player was playing below par at the start of the season and there wasn't a great feeling around the club.
But now everyone seems to have shrugged off that feeling. I thunk there has been some serious clear the air meetings gone on.
Now all players look to be getting back to their best and getting their confidence back.
An other part is that guys like Boyd and others have made our Bhoys angry and that was a big mistake.

6.) 04 Nov 2018 09:20:25
It goes without saying Brown is a Celtic legend but l have to agree that the pace of the game has changed since his injury. Now not for a second am l saying it is because he is out but we seem to have an urgency now to get the ball forward and at pace which wasn't there before. Callum has been sensational in the holding role and looks made for that position. Maybe Brown can slot in beside him when he returns but it's going to be very hard for him to get back with the team in this form.

7.) 04 Nov 2018 11:20:54
Think broony will go straight in we done the double treble with him so there can't be too much wrong.

8.) 04 Nov 2018 14:22:48
We have players that can replace Broony with ability but do we have anyone that comes close to his passion? I know that emotions aren't everything but when they're wrapped up in a package of ability, determination and experience then a fit Broony is a more difficult player to replace. HH.

9.) 04 Nov 2018 23:06:14
Totally agree Bob, he’s a great captain and for that reason I think he’ll go straight back in. He’s got that air of confidence and authority about him that great leaders have and that can have a massive effect in key moments in a game. One day Tierney or McGregor will take over the mantle but neither of them have the personality yet to do what he does.

Question for you fellow celts. Would you start Benkovic on Sunday along with Boyata? Who is your prefered defensive pairing?

charstep

1.) 31 Aug 2018 23:44:08
Benkovic, Ajer and Boyata in a back three.

2.) 31 Aug 2018 23:50:03
Not for me mate. I think we should go with Ajer alongside Boyata. Too soon for Benkovic and Ajer has done little wrong to be dropped. Hopefully we'll see Benkovic make the position his own, but he has to earn it.

3.) 31 Aug 2018 23:57:20
No chance he’ll start, BR generally doesn’t take risks like that and will want the player to settle in to the surroundings first and all that sh! te!

4.) 01 Sep 2018 00:00:29
Not sure why everyone loves Boyata now and have forgotten how consistent ajer was last season. Ajer is our best cb in my opinion.

5.) 01 Sep 2018 00:08:12
He'll play the same back 4 as Thurs night imo.

6.) 01 Sep 2018 00:15:57
If Simunovic is available, I’d go with him and Boyata. Too risky to throw someone in who doesn’t know the fixture and our system. To be honest, I’m hoping we don’t need to worry about defence as I think we might have enough going forward to run them ragged.

7.) 01 Sep 2018 00:24:14
Ajer has merited being dropped tbh, however I would be surprised if Benkovic started on Sunday.

8.) 01 Sep 2018 01:00:32
Be interesting to see how we line up Sunday, I expect them to go 352 with Morelos n lafferty up top.

9.) 01 Sep 2018 01:01:19
Anyone else think benkovic would do well with jozo? As a back 2 obviously. He says he knows him well, and other wasn't long ago he won tackle of the decade.

10.) 01 Sep 2018 01:17:42
Can see why anyone would drop ajer myself.

11.) 01 Sep 2018 03:29:22
Jozo will be forever remembered for " the greatest tackle ever seen"! If only he could repilcate the form from 2 seasons ago.

12.) 01 Sep 2018 07:31:28
Hard to look pass ajer and Boyata. Two lads have played well in the last 2 games together. Ajer has been very consistent for me considering all the trouble in defence. BR might have the 2 lads on the bench. Surely at least the Mulumbu to cover midfield.

13.) 01 Sep 2018 08:39:55
Kev83,
beat me to it.
All those blaming PL but conveniently missing the part where PL was in place when we signed BR followed by 2 tremendous seasons.

Good afternoon ED,
Just wondering if you've heard anything regarding the extent of Dembele's injury? Keeping my fingers crossed that no news is good news. Thanks!

{Ed007's Note - It's not meant to be anything serious but he'll be monitored over the next couple of days.}

Boy that was tough to watch at times. It looked as though the ball had been greased with butter. I am happy with the 3 points, but I hope that was just a singular blip that is not predictor for this week's CL match. Hail hail!

1.) 19 Nov 2016 01:30:39
Mate it was mostly because of the pitch but am still a bit wary for Barcelona. Saying that I'd much rather be feeling like this about facing Barcelona than feeling like it about the jambos, know what a mean?

2.) 19 Nov 2016 01:53:11
Absolutely! I knew the pitch was poor, but I live in Canada, so I'm not too familiar with the quality. It didn't seem like anyone could keep control of the ball tonight.

A win against Barcelona is a always a massive upset, I just hope that Boyata won't be the anchor in our defence. Hail hail.

3.) 19 Nov 2016 02:59:50
It was more a dig at sevco bud but I share your pessimism about boyata no need to worry too much tho I think simonovic was spared because of the surface hail hail🍀.

4.) 19 Nov 2016 06:33:38
Pitch was terrible but thought we played ok in spells, should have put game to bed earlier but deary me boyatas a bomb scare.

5.) 19 Nov 2016 09:11:09
Grinding out ugly games is something we never had in the locker under RD. Rodgers and the backroom squads man management has been good so far. 4 months in charge and things are miles better all around. Getting CK, EA, Cifci, GMS, SA and more deadwood off the payroll come Jan or at the end of the season leaves room for another 3 or 4 quality players. HH.

6.) 21 Nov 2016 00:50:49
One big improvement I think there is this year from team over the last 10 years or so. Our defence is usually better at covering up mistakes, than every other year . It used to annoy me that nearly every mistake resulted in a goal, but this year very often when we make a mistake another defender gets the ball cleared.

20 Aug 2016 15:53:43
Hello lads,
That was a good away win in my opinion. Obviously we were caught flat footed for a few minutes, but there we a lot of positives.

That said, is it just me, of has Kieran Tierney looked a bit shaky the last 2 games? I know he is young and, obviously, he can't have a 10/ 10 all of the time. I was just wondering if I'm being too harsh or if anyone feels the same. Roll on Tuesday!

charstep

1.) 20 Aug 2016 16:04:38
Yes I thought he looked a bit scared in possession against Beer-Sheva a bit hesitant but he came on to a good game and seemed to gain confidence in himself

Today thought he lacked confidence but he young think he will be fine under br.

2.) 20 Aug 2016 16:08:40
Charlstep

You are correct.

Crossing poor
Defending poor
Positional sense hit and miss

He's had a pullback on form but he's young and there has been an awful awful lot of positives

We need to expect some indifferent performances but he tries. That's for sure. He certainly tries.

3.) 20 Aug 2016 16:09:56
Bit harsh charstep-think KC has largely been Mr. Consistency and as you say yourself just a young laddie.

4.) 20 Aug 2016 16:14:31
I don't think we'll see a great deal of shut outs under BR going off his former sides. It will be very much a case of just scoring more than the opponents I think. Whilst the defence look shaky whenever they're equally matched, it will become a bit of a problem against better sides in Europe, but that's almost inevitable. At home, I'll take 4-2 every week.

5.) 20 Aug 2016 16:16:35
Has a couple of poorer games he looked a yard off the pace gee the Bhoy a break inconsistency happens with all players.

6.) 20 Aug 2016 16:18:43
Tierney has been massive. I was just wondering if he was carrying a knock or something like that. I just hope he is back to his best in Israel. He is a very important player for us. Hail hail!

7.) 20 Aug 2016 16:20:28
kind of felt the same to be honest looking sharp going forward but as I said earlier need to sort these defensive lapses pronto or we WILL be punished by better teams this season. hoping it's just a case of the defence gelling a bit more and understanding each others game though. as for Tierney the guys still got a lot to learn but brendan will nurture him into an even better player. last 2 games I agree with but still 7/ 10 easy. hail hail.

8.) 20 Aug 2016 16:39:16
Did young Teirney not take a dull one against Beer-Sheeva.

9.) 20 Aug 2016 17:12:08
Don't think I've seen 1 game where I've thought Tierney had a poor game, he is always consistent, never hides and plays for the jerseys. Any mistakes made along the way is a learning curve and for me itscgreat seeing one of our own in a Celtic jersey.
He will learn from any mistakes and gain experience so he starts every game 4 me as he just gets better n better. Credit to Rd for giving the wee man his chance and he's never looked back.
Great game today, thought we controlled it well n look like we will outscore most teams. Lot of quality options in the forward positions and I think schviatchenko, still 2 cum back I think may shore up the defence, for me has 2 b a starter.
Now for a win against the Israelis, given how poor they are, while we don't need 2 win as a draw suits I'd expect us as the better team to be able to best this mob home n away as they have nothing for us, bang average.
Hail hail.

10.) 20 Aug 2016 17:40:33
St Johnstone is never an easy place to go these days under the guidance of Tommy Wright. stating the obvious I suppose but we made heavy work of it at the end and nearly gifted them a third goal. I thought the defence was sloppy at times, even before the goal. young O'Connell has done a great job in recent weeks but has had a few lapses in concentration this past 2 games so tend to think BR has some thinking to do as to whether he brings in big Erik for Tuesday's game. was glad to see Henderson and Christie get some game time as I think they are two fine talents.

11.) 20 Aug 2016 18:10:20
He only looks a bit off the pace due to his high standards and previous level of performance.

He is a class act.

12.) 20 Aug 2016 18:14:29
Kieran Tierney is the closest I have seen to Danny McGrain for many years. I mentioned below that he has been a bit short of his own tremendous standards in the last two games, but even so, he never hides and tries to persevere and play for the team.
If he is carrying an injury I hope the back-room staff look after him and the manager stops him from pushing himself too hard.
He is one of our brightest prospects and seems to be the sort that would never want to miss a single game,
I am more concerned about Gordon, Janko and O'Connell, who are looking a bit out of place in this new-look team.

13.) 20 Aug 2016 20:04:02
We played with a very inexperienced back four today Janko O'Connell& Tierney all youngsters and all learning their role . The big ex Liverpool Tuoro was every bit as shaky as the rest of our defence. Hopefully they will all do better during the week.

14.) 20 Aug 2016 20:07:33
Judging by your name IWEISS, (I'll call you that for short if it's ok) you know more than me. Poor games are expected, but KT has the potential to be the best full back I've seen in my 27 years. The kid's head seems right on from what he's said, his talent has already been demonstrated, what he actually needs is poor games, to learn from, but not be discouraged.

15.) 20 Aug 2016 21:51:41
KT is the best left back since the great Anton Rogan.
Our problem is right back janko just not good enough, weak in the tackle, slack passing, one trick pony going forward, can't cross, might improve doubt it. need Lustig for big games. although now make better centre.

16.) 20 Aug 2016 22:15:06
KT has a problem with his shoulder after injuring it a couple of weeks ago. I hearing he may need an op, u heard anything on this ed.

17.) 20 Aug 2016 20:55:11
I'm surprised that Tierney has gone as long as he has in the team before having a slight dip in his form.
Nearly all young players however promising tend to have a drop in performance after a while. The fact that KT has been so consistent for such a long time since coming into the team just shows what a special player he is going to be in my opinion.

I agree with your post. As much as I love Brown, Lennon needs to give Ntcham more consistent playing time. Also, Taylor is definitely not a wing back, and he looks quite uncomfortable as times. In my opinion, it is now time to start the respectful phasing out of Scott Brown in the center of midfield. We have young promising talents that need a chance to flourish.
