If signing Hayes is an alternative squad member for Roberts then a good player to have got, but if Hayes has come in as replacement for Roberts, because have not decided to pay out an extra few million to sign the boy then it's the usual biscuit tin mentality at celtic, surely though Rodgers won't put up with that cheapness, who knows though.

Do you think Roberts coming to Celtic is as simple as us paying the fee Man City want? Sorry but it's not. From what I can see Roberts is reluctant to come back north unless he is not given a chance at City and there are no other tempting others from English sides.

I'm not going to run to the Celtic Shop to get Hayes printed on the back of my jersey, but I do think he's as close as you can get to be guaranteed of someone who will do a job for us domestically.

It's sensible to have 2 players in your squad to cover every position, and with GMS and Christie likely to follow Commons out the door - it only really leaves Forrest and Sinclair who would play on either wing.

Signing Hayes would still leave us needing another winger in my opinion.

That is when the marquee will be whipped out.

I think being in a position to spend over £1M for a squad player shows how much of a strong position we're in financially. I've also stressed before that i would see him as an upgrade on Forrest and GMS.

Same old stuff, we need to get are dicks out of are trousers and accept we play in Scotland and get what we are given as frustrating as it is.

1m not not hardly pushing the boat out, let's be honest.

£1.3M for a guy who isn't first choice is a big outlay in our league.

Apparently Huddersfield are now keen to take Roberts on a season loan so wouldn't be suprised if he wants to try a year getting regular playing time in EPL as a last ditch attempt to make Man City think twice about selling him. Hope I'm wrong.

What are everyone's thoughts on Januzaj?

I have to admit Man Utd. are my English team (despite many of my buddies still hating Mourinho for Seville) .

When he played, he played! Seemed to be quite inconsistent tho; although, that could be down to him not having a regular 30+ games in the same position et al.

I'd be very happy if he was opposite Paddy on the wing. They can play either wing and he's a pacy wee guy.

As for Hayes, I'm on the fence. Maybe he's cover for Armstrong, since I'm sure he played AM quite a bit? Or maybe he didn't. Don't see him as cover for Paddy at all. Since he did get a boat-load of assists last season, bringing him off the bench w/ 20mins to go if we're needing an injection of creativity would be ideal?

As for 'marquee' signings. I think our strategy isn't to get in big names, but to bring-on new talent and maybe rejuvenate stale talent (Sinclair a prime example) .

Anyway, I'll let the replies rip right through that haha :) Hail Hail.

Eh lol. 1 mill shows a position of financial strength, what planet are you on.

I think if Roberts don't come a big blow, shows the realistic level of player can only attract, a shame as huge club but play in Scotland, a Shame then got to scrape the barrel, just got to hope for good scouting and hope to get a few decent players can keep for a a couple of years, oh well it is what it is, obviously very frustrating for the supporters.

QIt appears we are wasting our time and are only depressing ourselves going on about Roberts . If he is away and doesn't comeback he won't be the first or the last . He. Was certainly an integral part of our first team, yet in the 18 months he was with us we could never be certain that he would start the next game in the same way as Sinclair . We can mourn and regret the loss of Roberts but we should also be cheerful and delighted that everyone else that powered us to the inVIncible domestic treble are still with us and likely to be with us for at least another year .
Let us rejoice and be grateful for our great team.

Roberts, Hayes, and Flannigan, plus Gomes on the shopping list, all realistic targets, the rest of the money we got in the bank can go on new grass, the hotel and museum, and build up the south stand by another 10,000.

Not going to happen Regan82 I'm afraid, both Roberts and Gomez have been given assurances to feature pre-season in order to cement a place in their managers thoughts, however if city do get their intended signings in the Roberts will be sold to the highest bidder to soften the FFP rules, with Gomez he will be probably loaned to a lower tier PL club for experience. We can only hope BR and the board have some manic up their sleeves as they won't pay the PL going rate, if we had those players to sell we'd want big money ourselves, hopefully some unheard of gems can be captured from the poorer pockets of Europe and can mold then into celtic greats before eventually cashing in and looking at the next project, we only need to bide our time till young karamoko breaks through and single handedly destroys teams, or at least here's hoping.

Nothing great will be coming in, prob might get the atomic ant if can scrape 1.5m together, these transfer rumours laughable of all these players supposed to be signing who will want 50g a week, we got to be realistic, got to go for bargain bucket and hope the players that come in are decent, that's the reality.

To be honest, get a couple of quality players in when get to the group stages, no guarantee will, and nonsense in my opinion to think that top quality players will come in if qualify, still not going to change the fact that quality of a high standard only going to come in if give out high wages which we won't, that onyekuru would of been quality but he ain't interested, I reckon big gamble now if don't qualify, everyone will be moaning and dismayed, but to be fair if can't attract the players as play in a weak league with no money in it nothing Brendan can do unfortunately or the board to the point, just have to accept got to wheel and deal.

I agree with Dafabet, pre season started and only Hayes signed, poor stuff. Rodgers said wanted 3 quality signings in for pre season, I would of thought some homework would of been done and had them lined up a while back, hopefully I'm wrong but the usual traditions at celtic being sold short.
