So for the draw tonight, this is my preferred group.

Wolfsburg
Celtic
Wolverhampton
Wolfsburger

I think we could lead that pack.

Melb Bhoy

1.) 30 Aug 2019 08:33:30
Arsenal Celtic rosenburg cluj would be my choice.

2.) 30 Aug 2019 09:51:32
Basel
Celtic
St. Etienne
Dudelange

I'd be happy with that.

I wouldn't like to get wolves as a pot 3 team! Think they play really good football n capable of ripping anybody's defence apart.

3.) 30 Aug 2019 10:08:56
@Melb Bhoy
You do know that Celtic ALWAYS get the hardest group and some things are written in stars. EG it is a CERT we get Arsenal, Tierney and all. We always get drawn against same teams and we will probably get Quarabag again and a trillion miles round trip
Just fro a change give the new club these far off teams they could do with the air miles to save their plane fares lol.

Qarabag
Astana
Rijeka
Hapoel Beer Sheva
Slavia Prague.

Gutted that Maribor scraped the last seeded spot. I think they'll all be tough, but if we play well we should beat any of them. But give us the 2nd leg at home.

2.) 02 Aug 2017 22:07:37
Tbh they'll all be difficult ties, but at the same time I'd be confident of progressing no matter who we draw from this list, a little worried bout cb with Erik's injury, hopefully a hungry ajer will stake a claim if used. Hh.

3.) 02 Aug 2017 22:16:33
Dont want slavia prague. don't want Hapoel. let's see. To be fair thete are no mugs here. If we play as we can and have a fit striker we will be ok but we should not go into next round with only Griff as a striker. If we only have him it may all go wrong if he gets an injury.

4.) 02 Aug 2017 22:28:10
Think quarabag, will be the most stressing because of the travel, hapoel, the most interesting because of the banners, maybe am wrong but I would think Slavia is the easiest of the bunch.

5.) 02 Aug 2017 22:28:54
Agree Johnny. And a centre half too.

6.) 02 Aug 2017 22:51:13
The sheep shaggers beat the Croat team a few years ago. I'm guessing they've improved since then?

26 Jul 2017 23:39:47
Well that was tough tonight.

But a little perspective, looking across all the ties from the 3rd round, we have 20 teams.

Of the top ten teams out of the 20, only two won their first leg - Olympiacos and Maribor.

Three drew their first leg - Celtic, Qarabag and Salzburg.

Half of the top ranked teams lost their first legs - Copenhagen, Ludogorets, BATE, Legia and APOEL.

It's a hard road, but I'm confident we can make it through.

We need to look at bringing in a striker if MD is going to be out for a while?

2.) 27 Jul 2017 00:12:48
Damn mb good shout but not feeling it brho hh.

3.) 27 Jul 2017 08:19:47
MD is becoming a Daniel Sturbridge, permanent sick note. Have we ever had a striker off so much. That mob must be laughing at us. Mon the hoops 🍀🍀🍀.

4.) 27 Jul 2017 09:00:53
His injuries are becoming a slight concern ged. I was thinking about Sturridge last night actually, and that BR will know now not to rush him back. We certainly beed to get a striker in seeing as Aitchison gets overlooked. If LG is fit I'm confident we'll do the business over there.

20 Jul 2017 02:33:05
OK, bored at work…. So I whipped this up. Should all higher ranking teams win their ties, groups would look like this.
Real Bayern Chelsea Juve
Benfica Monaco Donetsk Spartak

Barca Atletico PSG Dortmund
Sevilla Man City Porto Man Utd

Napoli Spurs Basel Kiev
Ajax Olympiacos Anderlecht Liverpool

Roma Besiktas Celtic Salzburg Copenhagen Ludogorets Feyenoord Leipzig

All up in the air at the moment I know, just a bit of fun.

1.) 20 Jul 2017 09:08:31
Don't understand the whole thing sorry Melb. Does that mean we could face the likes of Roma or Leipzig in the play offs? 😯.

2.) 20 Jul 2017 09:39:46
Think it's how he expects the Pots to be when everyone has qualified for the group stage draw.

3.) 20 Jul 2017 11:11:46
Thanks Kev, my bad. I even knew that Leipzig and Roma finished second, so have already qualified. Then I seen the thread down the page as to who we might actually face in the play offs.

4.) 20 Jul 2017 14:20:49
Some tough teams to play in the play off round, but I feel once we get our shooting boots on we will be comfortable

Last season at times we just didn't score enough and this season so far it's been the same however Ntcham last night moved the ball quickly and effectively and I think he will be a superb signing.

5.) 20 Jul 2017 16:09:54
I agree there's a few toughies in there Kev, but I wouldn't be particularly nervous of any of them either. It is what it is. If you're a Champions League side, you need to be good enough to beat sides of that class, quite simply.

19 Jul 2017 23:35:55
So, should we get past Rosenborg the best 5 teams we could face will be:

BATE Borisov
Legia Warsaw
APOEL
Maribor
Qarabag

Nice trip to Cyprus perhaps? Just to mix it up a bit.

Melb Bhoy

1.) 20 Jul 2017 00:58:01
I only really fancy Maribor there. Surprised BATE aren't seeded, they - along with Legia - could be problematic.

2.) 20 Jul 2017 01:09:07
BATE and Legia are seeded 6th and 7th respectively for the third round, so if two of the top five drop out in this round, they will be seeded for the Play-Off round.

Top five seeds are

Olympiacos
Celtic
Salzburg
Copenhagen
Ludogorets.

3.) 20 Jul 2017 01:20:23
Looking further ahead, if all went according to co-efficient then we would be fourth in line in a battle for two spots in Pot 3 behind Kiev, Ajax and Olymipiacos.

4.) 20 Jul 2017 05:57:52
We will cruise past any of them teams The squad is looking really well equipped for the CL this season and qualification will be a formality as Brendan will have the team ready our options in the forward positions are excellent in the middle of the park we have such strength in depth now and get Caulker in a guy who has real class at the back so bring it on Hail Hail We are Celtic 🇮🇪🍀.

5.) 20 Jul 2017 11:14:29
We don't want Warsaw. The rest are fine.

Mat Ryan - Valencia would have to be considered should we need a new keeper. Out on loan and would be a great pick up, fits the bill perfectly for us.

Mat Ryan - Valencia (on loan at Genk)

He'd want (as most goalkeepers would) to be first choice, and I know Gordon has just signed a new deal, but to get the best out of your number one, you need a good keeper to push him, and Mat Ryan is a good keeper. No idea what he earns or if he is out of contract but he'll be our number one in Russia.

Just having a quick look at their league table, they sit top after 17 rounds, only having lost two games, although they did just lose their most recent game 3-0 away at Sogndal who sit 12th from 16. Averaging almost 2 goals for and almost 1 against per game. 7 goals a piece for Jevtovic and Vilhjálmsson, plus 6 for Bendtner. So they seem to have a few avenues to goal.

Mat Ryan from Valencia. He'd be ideal, plays the sweeper/ keeper role that we need.

Melb Bhoy

{Ed007's Note - That's a great shout and isn't he available?}
