Morning ED, what comings and goings do you expect to happen this month? If reports are to be believed we could be losing svitchenko and jozo shortly. I know we've brought the German guy in but any ideas or names of further defensive players that could be coming in? Cheers.

Garryc

{Ed007's Note - Sviatchenko and probably Simunovic will be moved on this month along with Gamboa, it's more likely Boyata will leave in the summer. Compper has already signed and Steven Caulker could join him along with Hendry from Dundee.}

1.) 02 Jan 2018 12:45:21
Sounds like good business to me!

Have you heard anything on midfield? Any more news on Armstrong leaving?

{Ed007's Note - I've not heard anything, sorry.}

2.) 02 Jan 2018 13:02:41
Last season I was pleased Simunovic hadn't moved on as it looked like he had the makings of a good partnership with Boyata; however, this season between injuries and poor performances, it appears that both of them flattered to deceive and we need better quality replacements.
Ralston will offer cover for Lustig, who has struggled all season, but I would also like to see similar cover for KT - although I have seen McGregor fill in a couple of times and do quite well?
Otherwise, we just have to wait and see what BR and the board decides about offers that may come in and other areas we need to strengthen.

{Ed007's Note - Compper can play at LB as well so he should be able to cover there if KT needs a rest.}

3.) 02 Jan 2018 15:03:57
Selling Jozo would be a terrible move. He’s a very good defender, but like Boyata, isn’t the most comfortable on the ball. Rodgers obviously has his way of playing but the main job of a centre back is to defend not to start attacks from the back! I hope I’m wrong but I can see Rodgers leaving well before his contract is up and leaving us with a squad full of ‘footballers’ but very few players willing to get stuck in where it hurts. Selling Jozo would be the perfect example of that, he’s our best defender. I like Rodgers style but he needs to realise we aren’t Man City and that we need to change our ways in some games i. e Hearts and Rangers.

4.) 02 Jan 2018 15:14:19
If these moves go through, I’m personally underwhelmed. We are just about to receive the vvd bonus, qualified for the last two champions league groups and at least two more games against Zenit . We are meant to be selling Erik for 1.5 which more than covered the new German . Then we are selling simonovic for at least 8 and getting potentiallly a defender on a free ( who by his own admittance has problems which could affect his state of mind, never mind the stress that goes with playing for us ) and an untried spl defender who we should sign for no more than 1.5 million. I fail to see how we are spending all the money that comes in? It cries out of cheap options again .

5.) 02 Jan 2018 23:11:55
Whether a fan is personally underwhelmed is not really the major concern of Brendan or the Board .
What is important I think is that everyone have a realistic view of who and what our signing targets are . If we want quality then we will be buying players under 22 and over 32 .
Maybe we should remember that every young player we have signed has left us by the time they are 24, many before that, if players who are at our club cannot be encouraged to stay as they come towards their peak . How can we expect top players who haven't sampled the delights of Celtic, to sign at their best when we cannot keep top players that are here .
Remember Mr Lawwell and Brendan could sign a player for £10m or more this window but that doesn't quaranteed he is any better than Boyota or Briton.

Dreadful performance from us today yet again. Can't believe we started that game with ntcham and Griffith's on the bench. Dembele amongst others really need to look at the contribution they make to the team recently. Griffith's and ntcham must be scratching they're heads as to why they constantly being asked to come on from the bench. Both should be starters every week.

1.) 30 Dec 2017 19:36:00
Hopefully the winter break helps cause too many players are out of form and also Rodgers seems to be tinkering a little to much at the moment . I know we've done well since Rodgers has came in but this season has been too inconsistent and our midfield for me has too many similar players wee need a proper number 10 imo.

24 Oct 2017 21:51:23
Just watched John Mcginn for hibs tonight again. That boys a right good player. Would love to see him in the hoops at some point.

Garryc

1.) 24 Oct 2017 22:42:32
McGinn is a cracking player and looks as if he's bulked up a bit. We surely won't let this talent slip by like we did with McCarthy.

2.) 24 Oct 2017 23:03:08
said it before and ill say it again

WE don't NEED ANOTHER MIDFIELDER!

{Ed007's Note - But we might next summer when the Armstrong contract situation arises again and Brown's a year older.}

3.) 25 Oct 2017 03:37:07
Check my posts i have being saying this for two years when he played for St Mirren. I said at the time we should have got him instead of Scott Allen.

4.) 25 Oct 2017 06:38:40
Digibanger, even a blind man can see we've got loads of midfielders but I agree with a comment above. We missed a trick with McCarthy and the boy Mcginn is special mate. When a talent like that is sitting on our doorstep, it would be foolish to let him slip through our fingers. As ED said, Armstrong long term might not be there, also as much as I love him, Broony won't be around for ever.

5.) 25 Oct 2017 07:37:19
Is Christie any good?
We can't even get McGregor decent game time and he's special too.
Meanwhile I am reading major gripes from people in here re: Gordon. Gamboa. Lustig. Simos health. Boyatas heath. Eriks health. And only having 2 strikers when fit and at times none when they are not.

McGinn is great, I don't disagree - but will we sign him just so he doesn't stay with the opposition - and ruin his career as we did with Allen and Cifci (and 1000 others) .

If we are going to take a punt it should be on Moult or similar, or any decent cbs, lbs, rbs.

midfield we have forest, McGregor, bendu, ntcham, Christie, allen, hayes, biton, kouassi - not even to mention Brown, Armstrong, Rogic, Roberts and Sinclair or anyone in development.

Yes we will splash the cash and sign Moult, McGinn, the guy at St Mirren, but going by the last few windows - we don't splash the cash - I am still in total disbelief we didn't sign a defender last window. aren't you?

6.) 25 Oct 2017 08:26:41
and bitton gets punted, and i know who John wants to play for.

7.) 25 Oct 2017 01:55:52
Too right bond and when brooooonie gets slow and old time waits for no man except thor of asgard lol HH.

8.) 25 Oct 2017 09:44:10
I was delighted when we signed Christie and although I knew he was one for the future I reckoned he was versatile enough to do a job in a couple of positions.
Unfortunately since he was farmed out we have added Benyu, Ebousse and Ntcham, with Roberts returning on loan and McGregor making great progress.
On top of that we have Forrest, Broony, Armstrong, Rogic and Biton plus the unwanted Allen on the books.
I agree McGinn would be a good addition, but we need to make sure we don't stockpile players just for the sake of it.

9.) 25 Oct 2017 10:21:29
Brown won't last forever, EDs right regarding Armstrong, this time next year we'll be going through the same contract situation with him as we did this year, as for Scott Allan, cifti etc, both them will never play for us again. All I'm saying is I'd hate to see the Scottish game lose a talent like Mcginn and maybe not straight away but I do believe this guy could eventually be a regular starter in a Celtic team. We could do what a lot of big clubs do and sign him and then loan him back to hibs for example, after all we loan players in from other clubs on a regular basis.

10.) 25 Oct 2017 10:22:26
A take it christie can't play tonight.

11.) 25 Oct 2017 10:37:22
In the summer I'd expect us to lose several midfielders. Think Allen Armstrong and biton will leave and benyu will go on loan. Hayes could leave tae. Then I expect Roberts will go back down south.

12.) 25 Oct 2017 12:01:31
Agree Kev, Roberts will go, Armstrong will probably go as well as 2 year contract was signed. Others will go on loan or allowed to leave. So I think McGinn would be a great signing and allow Brown to used sparingly next season. The fact we have such a strong midfield is what gives us the platform to go on and play the way BR wants us to.

13.) 25 Oct 2017 12:04:12
and we'd still have

forest, McGregor, bendu, ntcham, Christie, kouassi, Brown, Rogic, and Sinclair AND anyone in development.

9+ players to pick 4 or 5 from isn't too bad.

But in defence we have to play biton atm and we have no recognised cover for KT. Recent CL qualifiers we didn't even have a fit striker!

I want the best players in all positions, but going by the recent history in the transfer market we ain't going to "splash out" so we need to fix what's broken first.

{Ed007's Note - And how many players that you listed play in the same position as McGinn? Ntcham, Kouassi and Brown - 3. Signing McGinn would have no effect on any the rest of the players you listed Celtic careers.}

14.) 25 Oct 2017 12:45:27
Been impressed with him and seen the Edinburgh derby highlights and he looked brilliant. Would like him being long term replacement for Brown.

15.) 25 Oct 2017 14:02:23
Exactly ed007. People always talk about swapping this player for that player all time without taking positions into account.

{Ed007's Note - It's baffling, Kev. Stuart Armstrong is the perfect example, at Dundee Utd he played as a LM (like Ledley done for us) most of the time yet RD was given pelters for trying him one position up as a LW with people screaming out for him to play as a No.10, a number he'd never played at and as has now been proven will never be able to play.
People don't moan about playing SA out of position when he's on the left of a midfield 3 now do they? His best position is playing as a box to box midfielder, sitting helping Brown and then pushing forward at the right time a la Frank Lampard or Scholes, you'd never consider either of those as a No.10.
And don't even get me started on the trying KT as a LW nonsense.}

16.) 25 Oct 2017 19:54:13
let me reiterate -I want us to sign mcginn - but only as part of signing another permanent striker, young and hungry and a recognised centre back and cover for kT

looking at the last few windows we haven't really stregnthed on those areas so mcginn YES but once we have plugged the holes.

29 Aug 2017 06:19:08
This transfer window could turn out to be one of the best we've ever had. If as reported Liverpool have had a bid of 81 million accepted for VVD the money we'll receive on the 10% sell on clause along with the champions league money we're guaranteed, that's a s##t load of dough for a club from our league, not to mention the signing of ncham, Roberts and holding onto our main players, if we can add another quality CB and Striker to the squad by close of play Thursday I'll be over the moon. Come on Celtic make it happen.

Garryc

1.) 29 Aug 2017 09:28:22
It's not really getting money that's the problem at Celtic. It's spending it when we are in a position of strength that has always been our Achilles.

This window has been less than reassuring so far. We still have no CB or fullback. That's a worry.

I would also like us to buy a keeper. I wonder if Boruc would come back. 😄.

{Ed001's Note - yes he would.}

2.) 29 Aug 2017 09:42:11
I'll be waiting until Friday morning before I decide how I feel about this window. Let's not forget the club have taken millions off us already in ST and CL qualifiers and are set to take millions more from the CL package. In fact the CL tickets will probably cover all our transfer fees and then some. Add the VVD money and CL group windfall I'm looking for a serious CB and striker brought in.

3.) 29 Aug 2017 10:02:35
Well said Kevbhoy. The club have plenty of money now champion league is confirmed. Plus if the VVD transfer goes through we will get serious money. We need to get in a serious CB ASAP. Hopefully a new CF and goalkeeper to put pressure on gordon or replace him.

4.) 29 Aug 2017 11:11:20
You are forgetting paying of the co-op loan. Also millions owed to DD.! That's where our cash goes😂😂.

5.) 29 Aug 2017 11:13:44
Totally agree kev! I've said before that I'm always a pessimist when it comes to our transfer dealings! Delighted that paddy is back but if Thursday comes and we've brought nobody else in I'll not be happy! CB and cover up front is a must! And I still think we need another left back to cover and compete with KT! Rate the boy miller but for me we need a natural left back in there! As superhuman KT is we can't expect a boy of 20 to play every game this season without some sort of burn out! So I'll wait til Thursday nite before deciding if we've done aswell as we should have done on the transfer from front! U still expecting another 2 players to come in ED?

27 Aug 2017 07:26:26
Morning ED, what's your gut feeling regarding transfer activity this week? Surely now champions league football has been guaranteed, and the money that's guaranteed to come with it and the cost of the 3 game package ( which a lot of people seem to think is a bit much ) surely there will be maybe 3 or 4 signings made this week. I hear the south African boy won't be joining now. I do understand the need to bring quality in over quantity but but I do think like most we need another centre half, wee Roberts, another striker and fingers crossed another keeper ( although I'm no holding my breath on that one) . Where do you think we're short and could improve and do you think it'll happen. Cheers.

Garryc

{Ed007's Note - I'm confident that there will be 2 or 3 additions to the squad this week. I definitely think that a new quality 'keeper would improve us but that's not happening this summer.
I would like a new CB to play beside Simunovic in the CL but I don't think it's as necessary as others make out and I didn't think Coetzee was the answer at that level, he would have been Sviatchenko's replacement as back up.
Roberts signing will excite fans and give us a player that'll get you off your seat, we know what we're getting and he definitely adds a lot to the team, even at CL level.
With only Dembele and Griffiths as recognised strikers we're always one injury away from a crisis, we need to look at either an older Toure type signing or a younger player that would be happy to step up to playing for Celtic knowing that his chances will be limited, Jack Aitchison is just a kid and we can't expect him to lead the line.

1.) 27 Aug 2017 12:45:41
ED007 as to the centre half position, surely Brendan must see that Lustig is better there than Biton, we can either play young Ralston at rb or Gamboa.
I agree about Gordon, I was hoping we might have tried to lure Vorm but that looks a non starter.
Again up front, with both Dembele (hamstrings) and Griffiths (calfs) suspect injury wise we need one other forward even just for domestic games to give Moussa and Leigh a break after tiring european games.

{Ed007's Note - I wouldn't be surprised if Gamboa moved on before the week's out, Tim and I honestly don't think Bitton is as bad a CB as people make out, not at domestic level anyway. With the emergence of Ralston, I can see Lustig playing a lot more games in the middle and he might finally make the move to CB that he's spoken about doing to help with his hip problems and prolong his career.}

2.) 27 Aug 2017 12:46:55
VVD session long loan from Southampton would be a topper we deserve it 😇💚💚💚💚.

3.) 27 Aug 2017 15:53:04
Well ED here's a prediction 4 days left till deadline closes let's face it today no work on transfers will be done so that's why 4 days this morning you believe 2/ 3 players in I think they may get in 1 if lucky Celtic am sure have been working hard in players in but the line from BR come Thursday if we do hear from him due to international games will be it not just Celtic if both clubs can't come to an agreement then it won't happen and I think that will be the case.

{Ed007's Note - Have you been rubbing your crystal balls again? You'll go blind you know.}

4.) 27 Aug 2017 18:25:35
No need for a cb or a rw or lb . we only have 10 midfielders we need at least 3 more.

Surely back up will have to be brought in now. I know Brendan's saying bitton can play centre half but surely we can afford to go out and get an experienced centre half. He done it last year when he brought in big toure and we already had svitchenko, big jozo and boyata at the club. It makes absolutely no sense playing a player out his natural position when we have a small window of opportunity to bring someone in.

Garryc

{Ed007's Note - And come September we'll have the new signing competing with Jozo, Boyata, Sviatchenko, Ajer and now Bitton. We moaned about having a bloated squad for years and now it's trimmed people don't want to use the squad we have and buy more squad players. For me Ajer or Bitton would be more than capable against Astana or why not move Lustig in there and play Gamboa at RB?
The only way we'd have brought in another CB is if one (Sviatchenko) left and I can't see that happening now.}

Id be quite happy with 2 maybe 3 signings of as good a quality as we can attract to scottish football. One of those signings for me must be wee paddy roberts providing man city and roberts himself are willing to make it happen. Just as important as new signings, we must try our very best to keep our main assets ie wee tierney, dembele, armstrong etc. If we can do that then i think most fans would be over the moon.

If celtic can get a perminent deal done with man city for roberts in my opinion it would be one of the most exciting signings we've made in many a year. This boy really is something special and at his age has all his best years still ahead of him. Come on celtic, make this happen.

There's still time for signings mate, i don't believe for a second there's not things happening behind the scenes regarding signings. Rodgers knows we need more quality, I'm sure he also knows who we need to ship out. To be honest, any big signings especially ones that cost a few Bob I'd expect to happen in the summer, don't be surprised if any more addition's this window are loan signings.

Griffith's for me is by far the best striker at the club. Dembele will be off in January/ summer. Griffith's for me has nothing to prove on the park for Celtic the boy is a natural goalscorer that can score all types of goals. Personally Griffith's would start ahead of dembele every week for me.

Garryc

{Ed007's Note - It's all about his bad additude, not trying in training and umpteen massive fall outs with Rodgers. By a sheer quirk of fate the stories about bust ups etc always happen just because he didn't start a game, we had them last December/January too and I'm sure his appearances are similar.
Nobody I know has told me there's any problems with LG, the guy came out and said so himself and people still prefer to believe pish off Tw@tter or what someone said in the pub.}

Dafabet, your talking complete nonsense regarding Tierney. Fair enough his performances lately haven't been great but my god, if your that hard on him then what's your opinion on boyata, jozo and Gordon? That defeats been on the cards for weeks, fair enough maybe no one seen a 4-0 but this team have been on the ropes for weeks. Whole defence needs a shake up no more so than 2 centre half a and a keeper.

I've also got to disagree dafabet, KT is a cracking player, bit jaded maybe but like someone said in a previous post, we let izzy go and never brought anyone in to compete and possibly switch at times with KT allowing him a wee break. Come January the only signings certainly the most important signings need to be better centre half a than we currently have.

We've drawn 1 more game this season so far than we drew the whole of last season. KT to be fair is playing in a defence that badly needs shaken up. Big jozo is too injury prone ( but really like him when he's fit) boyata remember struggled to even make our bench 2 seasons ago. He's definitely not the answer in there.
