Is Big John Hartson correct?

I lust seen his interview where he says that CCv is now going to cost up to £16m. This is as a result of some Championship clubs now being interested on the back of his Celtic performance. And I know that some Championship sides do pay that kind of money for players.

I thought we had a clause in the loan contract to buy for around £6m. If this is not in place and a load of tosh then I'm afraid CCV will decide to follow the money. Celtic won't pay the wages of someone who would go to the Championship for that kind of money. Who knows what kind of wage these teams would try and tempt him with?

My only issue with these Championship teams getting involved is do they forget he was mince at Sheffield Utd, tatties at Ipswich Town, a rotten tomato at Swansea, sour milk at Stoke, addled eggs at Bournemouth and a piece of mouldy bread at Luton. None of these teams rated him whilst out on loan enough to buy him. What has suddenly changed? One half decent season at Celtic under Sensei Ange and sensational Celtic - does that a superstar suddenly maketh?

We won't get involved in stupid bidding wars that's for sure and forget breaking any wage structures, such as they exist at Celtic.

If JH is talking from a position of knowledge then Sensei Ange will, I'm sure, identify a suitable replacement. (Is that the sound of Julien lacing his boots I hear?! ) .

{Ed007's Note - Nothing's changed with the CCV situation, Celtic have agreed a fee (circa £6 million) with Spurs that if CCV agrees to make his move permanent is all Celtic need to pay - another team can bid £20 million but if CCV doesn't fancy moving to them it has no effect on the price Celtic need to pay.
Team's in England & Europe baulked at Spurs £5 million valuation of CCV last summer so I seriously doubt that his valuation will have quadrupled because of one good season in Scotland and with him still with only a year left on his Spurs deal.
CCV is more concerned about his place is the USMNT than he is about money.}

Like many supporters I'd like to see CCV stay beyond this season based on his performances.

If he can continue to steer us to the League Title he will have more than done his job, but as ever, the final decision on where he plays his football next season and beyond will sit with the player himself.

Thanks Ed.

Yeah that is my take on it.

I was a bit distracted when listening to JH but I reckon when he says £16m he is talking about Spurs new valuation for someone to buy him - someone other than Celtic.

I'd be interested to see if he thought playing in England's second tier would get him noticed more than playing a few games (is it 10 next year in that new league format) in the CL. I would imagine the latter - but we have to get there first of course.

{Ed007's Note - ?

Up until now Carter-Vickers is my Player Of The Year.
He’s been rock solid and consistent from day one at Celtic.
If Celtic are playing in the Champions League next season,
that might help make his mind up to sign a permanant deal.

If there are multiple teams after ccv could we not just do what that Belgian team done to us with jack hendry pay what ever the agreement is with spurs then either keep him or flip for a nice profit.

{Ed007's Note - The player still needs to agree to such a move.}

I may well be in the minority but I'm not overly fussed if ccv or jota sign on permanent. Both have been wonderful but if they fancy moving elsewhere rather than playing champions league then I'm more than happy to let Ange spend the 12m on other players. I'd imagine he has a CH and LW lined up anyway.

I with you smkmeakipper, ccv is a decent player but has been horrendous in Europe. Would like Jota to sign but I don't think either player will stay if I'm honest.
