I agree about to much negativity so early in the season. I like all other fans feel a bitter disappointment for the CL result. We should be managing to see off teams like Cluj. We have a budget bigger than theirs. We've had more European experience over the years. We've sold players for £25, 19, 12, 10, 7, 6,6 million over the years. We have been getting reasonable prices for our players, we should be able to have invested well enough to have a team capable of the CL.
The problem being we've over-inflated the squad with mediocre players on half-decent wages (Rodgers or the board's fault) . The likes of Morgan, Hayes, Ralston, Hendry, Miller (not good enough for a team like Celtic) . The unknowns (Kouassi, Bayo, Perez, Guttman, Benyu, Arzani, Shved) are salaries we've gambled on. That is 12 players in our squad who we know/ don't really know much about, but we know they collect a salary not to start. Its this over-bloating, with development project and average players that I think costs us. We could easily have dropped 12 players and added in 3-4 players of quality on decent wages to compete for a first-team spot.
We have decent players at first team level and some that still need further progress for champions league level. Johnstone is great but needs a year or two (like Christie) for experience and physical development, he is SPL level no further at present, he shouldn’t be our first choice left wing when Sinclair with experience and statistics prove he delivers on bigger stages for us. Brown is the life and soul of our team, but his time is coming to an end. We need to start filtering him out as a regular first choice, he can’t keep the pace. I’m confident if he came up against an opposing Christie or McGregor he’d be done after 60 mins. He can’t keep the pace and its beginning to show. We have gaps at left back, ? right back, left wing and I believe GK for the European stage – we should be buying players with decent pedigree, who have played against some quality teams and showed they can hold their own.
When it comes to tactics and players Lennon has experience in the past proving he can provide. He just needs to get back to being thorough with this. This was the manager that took us to the last 16 of the CL. He also showed some performances against the likes of Barcelona and Spartak. He had some outstanding results and showed grit against the h*ns, when they were a stronger side. He can do a job, he just needs full financial support and needs to regain that focus and drive that started the run for 10 in a row.
If anything today showed we need to really up the quality of player. We should be ripping apart teams like Dunfermline by at least 5 goals. Cup games are anyone’s game but we should have the hunger and quality to see that off.

No Lennon is well and truly out his depth. Should never been appointed first time around never mind a second bite at the cherry.

His European record is one of the worst any manager I can remember has had! You mention last 16 CL season, one season out of 4 seasons he was in charge he done good. I will refresh your selective memory:

2010/ 11 Knocked out Europa qualifiers by Utrecht

2011/ 12 Qualified by default due to Sion fiasco

2012/ 13 CL last 16 season

2013/ 14 Absolutely humiliated in CL group stages finishing bottom with 3 points from 18 points

Added to that his shocking domestic cup haul! Aye belter! Great manager!

LENNON OUT NOW.

Phil what glue are you sniffing. He ain't the tactician that is Guardiola, and if I you thought that then you've picked that post up wrong. However, in 3 seasons 4 times European football (regardless route and results) is not bad. For me the CL is not for competing, we'd need a lot more money and player pull, it is giving us the funds so other teams/ leagues (Belgian, Dutch, Portuguese, Swiss etc. ) don't become out of sight.

If your going on results rodgers handed us some skelpings in europe no one was shouting for him to leave. I strongly believe lennon is not the problem, its the boards, the Scottish game and the standards we need to progress to.

wasn't skelpings under Rodgers there's no words to describe the beatings wee took in Europe under him. I had the fear in euro games under him.
