With the core of players Celtic have the system we have played for the last 3 years suits the players style of play. If Lenny gets the job, I think it is something he will need to adapt to better than what we have witnessed recently.
Lenny prefers a 4-4-2 with plenty of cross balls the forwards need to attack and with most teams playing with a diamond 3 midfield, it will leave our 2 centre midfielders a man down, to compensate for the extra forward.
I think a 4-4-2 is more old school and is a formation we mostly see in inferior teams and lower league teams.
If our new manager sticks with our 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 then I would rather we spent good money on a top striker who can play the lone forward role rather than a left winger and then we can play Edouard on the left wing. If a forward was bought we would have plenty of cover in both positions.
Priority is a top right back and if Benkovic stays we would need a new project to replace Hendry. We also need cover for KT which would not cost too much.
If we got money for Sinclair, Ntcham or Rogic I would take the money and replace them with similar players, so whatever transfer money we would receive for them, I would spend at least that amount and more to replace them, hopefully with younger and fitter alternatives.
So as it stands, if Benkovic stays, I would spend big on a right back and a new striker and cover for centre half and left back and replace any players that leave.

Domestically 442 is fine. In Europe we'd get shagged. Juggling between being a dominant side at home and a team that can stifle better opposition in Europe is a big task for every Celtic manager.

Anyone who thinks Lennon will be permanent manager is away with the birds.

My priority is a no. 10 to pull the strings.

IC our defence is going to have about 4 players, got to prioritise that.

4231 and 433 got us hammered in Europe.

Last time we played 442 or 451 was Strachan we made last 16 twice.

Just saying.

Ditto Island Celt. Most important member of the team and something we're lacking.

“Lenny prefers a 4-4-2”
Lenny played 4231 and 433 mostly in his first spell.

Times have changed Tesla because 10 years ago most clubs were playing 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3.
Island celt, I do agree we need to be strong in the number 10 role next season. If Rogic isn't up to it, we need to replace him. I would have McGregor and Christie and then Rogic or replacement in the 10,the same as in November when we were running riot with our speed and accuracy, before even more injuries.

No idea who will get the job; but, paramount for me is someone who can switch formation and players quickly when needed and not someone with rigid, stubborn ideas, with no flexibility or tactical nous.

Not exactly Leon boy

Most were doing 433 then too.

Also Leicester won the EPL few years ago with 442 / 451

People assume cos not many sides use it that it's a "dead" tactic.

It's just a myth. You have the right players it will work, same as any tactic.

We can play many different formations all
Over the team players will adapt players will come and go but you have to get them believing in what the manager wants the new styles etc. Get the new manager right that is the main thing once that comes s right everyone else will fall into place. I really do hope we get it right along with with all the Celtic family HH.

I think the first time I heard of a 4-2-3-1 or something similar was John Barnes when he was our manager and he got ridiculed because everyone felt he didn't know what he was doing. Maybe back in the year 2000 he was ahead of the times and the players never understood what he was trying to achieve. To be fair to the Celtic players, he got a second chance at Tranmere and fudged that up also.

I don’t think the defence is to bad with the exception of a RB
Jozo, Ajer, KT and benko (fingers crossed) we lack cover

Recently we seem to struggle getting into the final third and a no. 10 of quality may change that
I like Christie but he would also benefit with quality coming into this
Position to aid his development and provide rotation

I reckon our squad is just tired after the phenomenal run of games and the achievements they had.
I also think now is the time to bring in a replacement for broony, although ntcham is a player I don’t think he’s a player who wants to stay for any length of time.

You play the formation that suits your players strengths, rather than be like Ronnie and read about how modern and upto date a certain formation is, and how old fashioned you will appear if you set your team up as 442 or 433,and then try to put round pegs into square holes, or like WGS, who was quite happy to lose goals aslong as his players stuck rigidly to his zonal defence madness,

I think 4-4-2 would work with Eouard and Bayo. Bayo being the target man and Edouard dropping deeper and getting a bit of free reign to link up midfield to attack. Both will be playing to their strengths. Far too many park the bus and that's what we need to break down these stubborn teams. In Europe though we can't play that way and definitely need a few new additions and move on the players that aren't performing or playing ie Bitton, Mulumbu, Ntcham, Benyu, Hendry, Kouassi? That'll free up wages and money for a few quality additions.
