Valencia had worse revenue than us over the last few years though.

They maybe have more guaranteed income so can afford more debt

But we are not as poor as people make out.

They aren't / wernt vastly superior than us . they are an ok / decent team nothing more.

That's like saying The rangers are far superior to us because they beat us, idiotic statement,

Far superior is a bit exaggerated; Yes, they are in a stronger league and have some more expensive players, however, we all-but beat ourselves with far too many daft mistakes, poor decisions from experienced players and a nervousness that has cost us many times.

Having a make-shift back line obviously didn't help on Thursday.
I concede that Europe is a step too far for a few of our current team, but I think we have every right to be there competing - like we did in the recent past - getting results and can do again, hopefully with better personnel in these problem defensive positions.

Nothing idiotic about it aindoh. as a club some fans need to reliase we can't compete with teams from top leagues in Europe when we spend 1-2million on players and have a wage cap that is lower than they pay there 17-18 year olds that have never even played a 1st team game. yes we can get the odd result just like teams do with us in the league but the odd result doesn't get you far in the long run.

Mcg people aren't being unrealistic at all. Our revenue was in the top 14 sides in the Europa League knockouts. We are not as poor as people make out. We have simply chosen to spend the way we do.

Also teams like Ajax in similar positions got to the Europa League final and now last 16 CL in recent years.

Aye we can't compete with the likes of PSG but regardless of their spend we should be capable of giving the likes of Valencia or Zenit a proper game.

Nobody is saying we have a right to beat them but how far behind we are from them is inexcusable tbh.

One word for u mcg88, and that’s SALZBURG. a perfect example of what a team can be without spending obscene amounts of money on transfers and wages! Yes we would love to have money to spend, but nobody will ever convince me that we shouldn’t be competing better than we are rite now! Especially at home!

Spending loads of money shouldn’t make a difference to the players we’ve got right now being able to pass the ball 10 yards under absolutely no pressure! There’s a fear factor in our squad when we step up, and no real belief that we belong at that level! And I’m sorry to say it, but it just seems to be getting worse!

Or Getafe. Getafe are 5th in La Liga, with a wage bill of £25m. They are above Valencia whose wage bill is £100m. above them over 25 games or something, not 1 gane. Not looking at transfer fees or anything, but Getafe wage bill would suggest they haven't spent big bucks on many players. They either have a great scouting system or a fantastic youth development policy. Our wage bill and squad investment is high- calibre of players doesn't reflect this. Suggest we are fishing in the wrong pools transfer wise, unless we are happy to get players loaned to us 6 months who we could never afford.

Lh88 two words you forgot before Salzburg is red bull a huge cooperation who have had some dodgy dealings between there clubs over the years. Then you have the work permit/ visa ruling which is made a hell of a lot easier for them as is for clubs like Porto. Tottally agree with you about fear factor as soon as first mistake is made the rest of the team seem to get the fear.

Well said robroy we would all love a Euro adventure but that is out of our budget now. As you say let's get the ten make history . Europe especially the champions league is going to get harder every year. this year 26 automatically qualified leaving 6 places for a hundred and on teams to play for. the quicker they make it a closed shop the better.
