If Boyata quotes about regretting choosing Celtic over Everton are true I reckon his memory needs a jog. He would never have lasted a season in EPL back when he signed for us. Looking a great player atm but remember the doubts about whether VvD would step up to EPL? Reckon he woulda disappeared.

"Under Roberto Mancini I got my first chances. I was 19 at the time. After that season I was able to go to Everton. I should have done that.
City became bigger and bigger every year and that does not make it easy for a youth player to continue to grow."

To me he's saying that looking back he should have realised how difficult it would be for him to progress at City while they were spending 100s of millions on players and he should have taken the move to Everton (or any team that would have gave him gametime) at that particular time.}

That’s how I read it ed. Funny how he’s out with his stories in the press just now being open n honest think his pr guru trying to help him get some good publicity after the shambles of the summer. Me I’ll never forgive him and as good as he’s been i still wouldn’t give him a jersey.

Ed Benkovic would be a fantastic signing for me he could be the next VVD.

{Ed007's Note - I think Benkovic is a better player than van Dijk was when we bought him and I think he's a year or two younger too.}

Fair play to the lad for coming to us on loan, Benkovic has shown himself to be a quality player. I don't know what the realistic chances are of getting him on a permanent deal but my goodness he has shown himself to be not only a strong defender but also a big influence on other defenders in our team.
In a nutshell he has made a major contribution to our leaky defence becoming quite flippin' good. HH.
