This is a wee bit random, but if anyone knows the deal with this please enlighten me!

For years now, going back to the days of Sutton smashing in volleys against Juve, when playing in Europe, the Bhoys have worn their numbers on their backs on top of a white patch. This has continued until it seems, this season.

So firstly, was the white patch just some uefa rule? And anyone know why we haven't worn that style of number in Europe this season?

Would love to get my hands on one of those shirts but doesn't look like they are made for sale.

Any info welcome from you knowledgeable lot!

They had to have their shirts like that so the referee can see their numbers more clearly.

Ye it's an UEFA rule. Can mind fans moaning about it when it came in.

I don’t think we had numbers on jersey at all when I was a laddie only on shorts but that was a problem in Europe?

Can vaguely remember black numbers going on some euro nights. Can remember the 1st number I got
9 for dziekanowski lol I was getting 7 for Joe Miller then he worse 9 in the final v rangers so settled on 9 on the strip that looked like wallpaper.

Cheers boys. I remember Dzoekanowski being a hellava player, not sure he was though. Was a fan of Wdowczyk at left back too.

@jfp I seem to remember is starting a season in the 90’s with numbers on our sleeves so as not to break up the hoops. Think thst was the first time we were made to wear shirt numbers. Could be speaking crap though!

94 95 season. Think a ref booked the wrong player and blamed it on there was no number on the back.
