The McGinn transfer was simple. McGinn asked Rodgers and Bruce if he would start every week. Rodgers said no. Bruce said Yes. McGinn chose Villa. End of transfer. Not excusing that Celtic should have tied it up earlier but that's what happened in the end.

On transfers. Brendan wants quality. Quality requires serious money. We have money but not serious money to compete for players who will improve us to CL level. This is Brendan's frustration - not falling out with the board but the realisation we don't have the 'serious' money to get the quality he wants. We spent 10m Euro's on Edouard and he's good but not the finished article so this clearly shows that for the type of huge money for Celtic we still need to buy young and hope they get better. Brendan can't win, the board can't win, the fans can't win. The only winners are the CL top clubs who have the cash we all know that.

You’d have thought McGinn would have seen himself as a natural successor to Broon and given our captains age it would just be a matter of time before he was guaranteed a game.

How can a manager tell a player he's an automatic starter? McGinn could have a couple of stinkers for Villa and be benched.
I don't get that.

It’s a fact. Brendan phoned McGinn and McGinn asked the question. He never got th answer he wanted and opted for Villa. Get the point completely that how can he be guaranteed a place but he was and that was it - mind made up and deal done. Celtic’s fault to start with but in the McGinn made the choice himself.
