Is it not possible that Celtic only offered SA an amended 2 year deal. Celtic know they have plenty of options in the middle and to offer someone top dollar to sit on the bench doesn't make sense - everyone is a winner here. SA gets a few money pounds whereas Celtic, if sold in January, get a bigger transfer fee. SA will find it difficult breaking into the 1st 11 again.

{Ed007's Note - So you're saying he will find it hard to get in the starting 11 and that sitting on the bench for five months is going to put his value up? Having 5 months extra on his contract in January is more valuable fee wise than coming off the back of the season he just had?}

I might be wrong with this but didn't Petrov do something similar. He signed a new contract and was then sold, rumour was that he signed the contract so Celtic could get a good fee for him?

Might be similar thing here?

Or I might have made that up.
