What happened last night made me think of events before i was born and which resulted in my father becoming a Celtic fanatic and consequently passing the faith to me,
"During their time in competition, Celtic had won the Irish League fourteen times, the Irish Cup eight times, the City Cup Winners ten times and the Gold Cup seven times. The Belfast Celtic team was the pride of Irish football until it was forced out of competition after the dramatic game against Belfast rivals Linfield on Boxing Day 1948.
The Celtic team had to run from the pitch for their lives when Linfield fans poured over the terrace barriers at the end of a 1 - 1 draw. Centre forward Jimmy Jones was thrown over a parapet, kicked unconscious and left with a broken leg. Defender Robin Lawler and goalkeeper Kevin Mc Alinden were also seriously hurt. At a meeting, the same night Celtic's directors decided to withdraw from football once the season' commitments had been fulfilled"

Should it be considered a sign of improvement that linfield supporters only throw bottles and don't invade the pitch breaking legs?
Should we not thank them for their phenomenal restraint in only throwing bottles in the face of such provocation ( noone can deny that griffiths was wearing the famous green and white hoops- a red rag to a bull) ?
In the almost 70 years that have passed since Linfield forced Celtic out of the league their behavior has dramatically improved and Griffiths should thank his lucky stars for that. I just regret i will not live long enough to see them throw flowers onto the pitch.

Only way you ever see flowers thrown onto the park there is if Tim Flowers signs for us.

UEFA should kick Binfield out the competition. They are an embarrassment to all decent football fans. I love Celtic but I would not throw missiles of any kind at opposing players no matter what was going on. The muppets have probably got something planned for Celtic Park. We don't need their kind in important football competitions. Mon the Hoops!

Wasn't that long ago a Scottish referee had blood pouring down his face when a Celtic fan hit him with an object during a game at Celtic park. EVERY team has those types of fans - even Celtic.

{Ed007's Note - That was 1999, 18 years ago - and you're saying that's not long ago! There's people on here that weren't even born when that happened. This is just pathetic whataboutery at it's very worst.}
