To put the hat on backwards for a jiffy, why in the world don't City want to keep hold of Paddy Roberts?

If he was a Celtic player-a Celtic winger-and showed the kind of form he did last year, I'd imagine the so-called elite clubs would be all over him. I am besotted, like the rest of you, and wee Kieran. But what are we missing? Let's say he'd be, as some have said, the best Celtic signing in a decade or more: surely that level of player would be more than tempting for the lot we were unlucky to draw with twice in the last 6 months or so.

Ok here goes and I'm ready to be slaughtered , probably starting with the ed but you got to call it as you see it or what's the point. The elite club's would not be queuing up for Roberts because he was not even nearly the biggest influence in the team last year as a matter of fact for a large part of it he could not even get into the team past Forrest and when he did I can only remember a couple of games where he made the difference. Sinclair , rogic, and Armstrong were much more influential and made the difference in a lot more game than Roberts did, so the elite clubs as you call them would surely be much more interested in those three players. Yes he is young, yes he can be very exciting to watch, yes he has potential to be a great but I think the hype is disguising just how good he was last season , now I'm off to put on my tin helmet.

Forrest isn't as bad as people make out and paddy isn't as good as some people tout him . the difference is paddy is still young and can or should improve he certainly finished the season great but was patchy up until then . why don't city want him probably because they have the top epl club beating the joneses spending affliction . money to burn and no time / desire to develop.

Quite simply City are a better side. Roberts was great for us, but they can go out and buy the ready made article. It's a wonder why City even bother with all those resources though. Not just Roberts, but generally. They must have a huge global network, they've got a massive complex, the staff to go with it and even a stadium for their youth teams that would put a lot of Scotland's to shame. Yet they continue to go out and buy players rather than bring them through. Iheanacho looked to be the one to break that mould, but apparently they're even after selling him. For us, picking up these well scouted, well trained young players from City, Chelsea et. al is a great way to go about business imo.

City and Chelsea are very similar with the stockpiling of players. Quite simply they can pick up a Oliver Ntcham for 1 million, send him on loan for a few seasons, pay at most a small proportion of his wage and then make a £3.5 million pound profit on him. De Bruyne, Lukaku, Ake, Atsu, Borini, Salah, Bamford, Unal, Mooy, Poso, Lopes, Rakik etc. all suffered this fate and made both clubs a healthy profit.

City buy talent and paddy will never get near there team they don't have the ti. e to wait on him. But last season there were quite a few games the wee man turned on his own ifbu think about it. get him signed HH.

Paddy was developing with us, he has undoubted skill and is nowhere near the finished article. In my opinion his contribution to the team improved drastically towards the end of his time with is. Money in England makes paddy represent a 'marquee' signing for us, but hardly a massive investment for English clubs.
If we sign him (and I hope we do) I would expect him to kick on again, however we need a sustained period in Europe to improve our players. Experience at the top level, pressure and quality opposition is what is needed to progress.
For me paddy has shown he has more than enough about him to be a first pick for us right now (and I included European ties here) and the potential to take his game to another level. Then I think he would move on for the foreign riches at a club not fighting relegation down south.
