I don't know if anyone has suggested this before but I think football should adopt the tennis appeal system in order to eliminate the refereeing howlers in the game! Incidents like the penalty on Sunday, Hearts penalty against us on the opening day and the Inverness goal line handball would be sorted out in seconds by the TV official. Even 1 appeal a game which would only be for major incidents! We all want the correct decisions to be reached! What do you all think?

I agree, but the problem with that is in tennis it's a straight in or out. Football decisions are different. What you think is a penalty others don't. What certain referees think differ from other too. It could cause even more controversy.

If you had £100 on a horse and it was left to one man to decide which horse was first past the post there would be hell on. Technology is available and with so much at stake these days it has to be used. This is the 21st Century, robots are driving round Mars via tv links, Robots are building cars, 3D printers make parts which people thought were long gone, Sensors and TV imaging is used in a variety of sports but in football, we still give ONE MAN the power to potentially - get a manager sacked, get a team relegated and/ also go financially bankrupt, (give an unfair advantage to other teams) , cost players their jobs (in addition to other financial implications like mortgages cars etc) and upset many supporters. ONE MAN - let's get real.

Seems that football is one of the few major sports that won't use video technology I like the way they use it in baseball and depending on the match cricket where you have three challenges if the challenge is proved to be correct you keep your three but if your wrong you lose one of your three challenges and I know some will say it would slow down the game but that wouldn't be an issue for me just imagine Celtic v whoever for a place in the last sixteen of the champs league and we get denied a stone waller or we get a wrong decision in our own box I would like to be able to challenge the ref's decision.

football is the best sport in the world because stuff happens. Can you imagine never getting that sort of decision that leads to the stuff of dreams? Yes the Inverness situation was hard to bare but it is a pain I would be willing to take.

What if we got a dodgy decision against a Barcelona, real etc that gave us a win? Would you still feel the same. That being said I think like tennis the challenge must only be able to be initiated by the player most likely the captain. Only my opinion not that it means anything to those who decide.

TinyTim

What an amazing point you raise.

Let's take the power from ONE MAN who is accountable and give the decision to ONE MAN in a room (video ref) who is unknown and not accountable for a decision?

Clearly didn't think that through as the video ref could be Dallas or Madden and I wonder what decision they would make in the last minute of a Celtic Vs Sevco game and Miller falls in the box?

NiallH where did I say one man in a TV room? If we want to be open and transparent show the replay to all, and the decision. It works in Tennis and cricket so why should football be different. I am totally gobsmacked that people do not want technology put in which would go a long way to remove unfair/ wrong decisions which have the potential to cause damage as in my previous post. Are you honestly happy with (not just Celtic honest mistakes) some of the amazing decisions given in football? Every football show runs slow-mo replays which either support or condemn a controversial decision. Is it wrong to try and ensure the game is as honest as it can be?

we can say or come up with whatever we like, its up to FIFA/ UEFA and let's face it they really don't care about football matters, just financial ones.

there was 2 guys a few years ago came up with an infallible offside system

Linesman looks at forwards, when one is on an offside position he presses a button on his flag.

Someone in the stand presses a button when a ball is played forward.

Scenario 1: Ball played forward Stand guy presses button. Linesman hasn't pressed his button yet - its not offside.

Scenario 2: Ball played forward Stand guy presses button. Linesman HAS already pressed his button - its offside.

so simple, tech to do this has been around for years. nada!
