I see Brendan has stepped into dangerous territory talking about diet and fitness players eating fish supper's and fat youth players.

Yeah why? I think he really just stated the obvious and correctly used Andy Murray as an example of commitment.

What's dangerous about that territory? If anything he's just stating the obvious 😕.

Think bigD might be talking about when Ronnie said the same when he arrived and was pretty much slated for it! Not sure if he meant that or not but lol!

Its only dangerous to the easily offended, panty wetters who don't like to hear the truth and the reality of things. Some people old or young just need to be told straight, not telling these boys with talent would be the error, they would then go on to waste their chance. don't want to sound like an auld git, but i see too many of the young players week in and week out back chatting to refs, parents and spectators at every game. Some of them think that because they have great talent, that all they have to do is turn up. Some do need a stern talking to. Its all about the right attitude and commitment. If your too thin, you bulk up, if your too fat, you start eating correctly, its not hard. And its great leadership to hear it straight from the Bosses mouth.

It's one of the things I agreed with RD about tbh.

Like bhampot said it's only dangerous to those easily offended.

Imo a lot of players (not just youth) take very little responsibility these days for there own development.
If you want a career that pays handsomely and allows you to retire in your mid 30's you need more than ability. The attitude and commitment has to be spot on given it's a 24 hour a day job. Unfortunately the club can only develop so much and the player has to be willing to do take responsibility for themselves.

Agreed Tick67, a lot of young footballers just kick back and wait for everything to be done for them, hence the "everybody elses fault" scenario. But iv noticed it in general society not just youth players, trying to get some of the young yins in my work to do anything with responsibility attached to it is murder. All in all, some wee fannies just need a kick up the erse😁.

LH86 you would be correct Ronny was slated for the same thing and the people slating him for trying to improve the mentality and habits especially in the youth players are dinosaurs in my opinion although saying that if you were told at 15-16 listen eat healthily and train hard and you can be a Celtic player why would you not do it boggles the mind when talent gets wasted so you can go out drinking and eating kebabs and fish suppers.

I can't really remember RD being slagged off for the diet / commitment comments

RD (love him, rate him, or doubt him) didn't make CFC as good as they could be with the talent pool at his disposal …THE END

simples.

They all should take a look at Ravel Morrison when it comes to wasting a talent. Him and Pogba was the best talents, acctually a lot rates Ravel higher come to raw talent.

I don't think that you can have fitness without talent, equally you can't have talent without fitness, they both go hand in hand.
Where I think Ronny went wrong, was that he talked a lot about fitness but didn't seem to know a lot about the technical and tactical side of things. We may have been fit, but we lost a lot of matches we shouldn't have purely because he was found wanting tactically.
If fitness was all that counted you could just go down to your local gym and grab people out of there.

Your spot on Bhampot, yet some folk would rather have a pop at Murray for his achievements and he did what he needed to do to get to where he is.
Yet the same people slag off footballers for not doing it.

History is a funny thing when seen through someone else's eyes, rd was slated for many thing's on here and elsewhere but I don't think trying to improve the fitness of our youngsters was one of them, especially by the sensible majority on here .

The people Big P was referring to have all gone quiet on the matter though. It's always made sense.

RD was referring to the 1st team and players in general when he said that.
BR was directing his comments at the youth players.
