5 mill is a big risk on a player, who is performing well at the moment, but may not be suited the scottish game, or fit in with the players we have, then you would hope he did become a sensation in the Larson mode and we could get maybe 10 mill when we sell him, its still a considerable amount of money and I would rather gamble an unearth a gem for a 1 mill or so, develop him and then make huge profit
if we do go for Finbogasson, I hope the fee is made up of add ons, such as qualifying for the group stages, so say 3.5 mill up front, and 1 mill for qualification, another 1 mill for last 16, and maybe 500k if we win the domestic treble, that way both clubs win

Is that you Peter Lawwell?

So you would rather spend 5 lots of £1m on 5 different youngsters as it's less risk?

In my opinion, there's less chance that they 5 players are going to be anywhere near as good as Alfie who's almost the finished article at the age of 24.

Agree with OP. 5 mill is a lot for a relatively unkown or tested player. We have bought players in the past that were on form and had a good record (brattbak, bangura, Rasmussen . etc) and the scottish game never worked for them. In contrast we have bought players off form or not with the best current form (henrik, sutton . etc) and the have turned out great buys. 3.5 upfront with addons would be good business if we can get him for that.

All transfers come with a risk, think this one could definitely be worth taking a chance on! Hope Celtic are going to try everything they can to bring him in if he wants to come to us, then again he could be waiting and hoping for English side to come get him! Not sure if any are interested anyone know?

We need a player for now not for next year a player that will hit the ground running and we are not going to get that from a player at £1m unless we get another Larson ( very doubtful ) to play and play well in champions league we need a player in the £3m+ category u get what you pay for!

@4) Agree mate and when it comes to strikers, strikers that can score goals the theory that you get what you pay for is 100% true.

Fact is you can pick up quality players in nearly every other position for low prices with a bit of luck or good scouting but when it comes to strikers you very, very rarely pick up quality strikers who score goals at a high level for buttons.

I agree with the poster on this one, 5 million is to much for us to be spending, larrson cost 650k did he not. All i'm saying is there are cheap players out there who could be great, victor is another example of this. spending 5 million on one guy isn't a MUST. I think if we can't beat this shaktar with what we have we really don't deserve champions league football.
