I'm a wee bit annoyed at the clamour for us to sign James McLean. Just because he's Irish . a mad tim and a republican doesn't mean your a shoe in for a move to paradise. Plus Celtic come calling for you not the other way about. Don't care for this, ' I played for the hoops' pish when your career is all but done.

We are not someone's mantlepiece ornament. I fit the three traits mentioned above and I would love to play for the hoops at some point in my career but I'm poor at football 18 stone and couldn't hit a barn door ☘.

I think he would be an excellent signing for us Pat. At 27 he has arguably his best years ahead of him. Sometimes players excel in a certain environment i think he would thrive at CP. It ain't like he's only just started showing his love for the Club he's been going to CP every opportunity when he ain't playing.

Not saying he would be a guaranteed starter but he would certainly give us good competition for both the left and right wing. An Irish International with a good few years experience of playing in the EPL would be a welcome addition in my opinion.

Nothing personal but being 'a republican' is nowhere on the list of preferred criteria to be a Celtic player or a Celtic fan. I live in Northern Ireland and am proud to do so however I am anti-republican insofar as the atrocities of the past are concerned even though I may be somewhat (just a little) sympathetic to the eventual aims of their cause. Having said that it has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with football. I'm a passionate Celtic fan for footballing reasons and the club's history. I shy away from anything that is Republican or IRA-based and it sickens me when people who attend our games use it to spout their shyte about this stuff. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I'm not saying you're wrong in what you believe but I don't see a place for it at Celtic Park and no-one has ever been able to offer an acceptable reason why it should be allowed. Freedom of speech is all well and good but please go and speak freely about it in the right surroundings. HH.

Play for the wee teams like Barcelona and Man Utd on your way down.

Merry Christmas henrick thanks for the memories.

Island celt, surely at 28 James McClean is just reaching or at his prime. I agree with your view on players who were good elsewhere and go to other clubs for a swansong. McClean has never hidden his love for Celtic.
Others may disagree but I think he'd be a great addition for us. He's a quality player and his love for the club might just get an extra 10% out of a player who would easily rip a new one for the Sevvies without any motivation needed. HH.

He is not a good enough player to have all the republican bull that would be used to beat us up with.

I watched the Irish play off game and never heard one Provo song. It seems the Irish want to move on but our plastic provos can't.

McLean is too much of a PR disaster. And not good enough.

We don’t need another winger, he is not better than Jamesy, Paddy or Scotty, we need defenders .

You're right jamesbhoy67, we all do things in life that we believe in but promoting it at a football match? What's that all about? Where is the connection? And the laughable truth is that half (if not more) of the people doing it haven't the slightest clue what they're shouting about.
By the way, depending on how far someone would take their efforts 'to be an Irish Republican', it is a crime in the eyes of the law. We can't pick the parts of the legal system that suit us and ignore the rest. Celtic Football Club doesn't promote Irish Republicanism and the songs are not welcome to the vastly significant majority of our fans but the empty heads will always make noise even if it disrespects other fans and damages the club they supposedly love. HH.
