They have appointed him to pass on his skills off not spending any money, as they worry about out of control transfer fees.

Lawell, known for his ability to peel an orange whilst it's still in his pocket, is legendary among Celtic fans, as only interested in his own bonus and inability to break a £20 when it comes to spending CL money.

In a statement today Lawell showed his intent by banning cakes and biscuits at meetings.

"I didn't get to where I am today by spending money mate. No, you need to keep it. Let it build up, whilst your team goes backward. That's my way, and if you don't like it you can Feck off. "

More later.

I think this can only benefit Celtic as we have a voice at the big table in Europe
Well Done Peter.

Wouldn't swap him for any other chairman in world football.

Can't understand why he's getting grief right now. We're getting stronger all the time, away n geez peace.

Bhoywonder I was there the day he was booed. People were arguing all round me.
The wee man was proved right and the law man will be to. We are I our most powerful position in a long time and just won a treble.

he isn't the chairman, he's the ceo and he's held us back for years, while paying himself a million a year, he's a leech.

Lawwell is top notch at the business side of things. Any investor could see that Crikey a said to everyone on here the pattern emerging that even under Lennon the share jumps at CL football and it happened so like me a hope you all filled your boots (Y)

Under RD he got involved too much and short changed us in RD's appointment and then when it was backfiring he called us all "delusional" which was nearly has undoing in my opinion so it had to be made right and we got someone in BR's standing

Him being at the top table won't do us any harm. I have heard he is only two years in him he feels whether or not that counts this season I don't know. He will be difficult to replace (Y)

To say he has held us back for years is nonsense
Our club is stronger than it's ever been on the business side and continues to grow.
Sponsorship at all time high
Outside our stadium is becoming a jewel in our crown.

Peter lawwell is an easy target, he's obviously good at what he does. Would you rather he spent like David Murray did? We can all see how that panned out, so to say he's held us back is ridiculous and I fear the day he leaves.

Thing is, we should have been at this point much, much sooner!

Chasa a do agree we could and should have been here sooner but he's got us here now and it doesn't look like we're slowing down anytime soon. If we come out of each window stronger a don't think we can complain too much. Progress is progress.

whats outside the park got to do with anything its on the park im interested in, i must be the only one on here who has seen mostly dross cheap option signings over the last few years and the appointment of a manager who now has took valerenga into the relegation zone and whos tactics emptied our stadium, they only appointed rodgers to fill the stadium again and when the guy wanted to strengthen at centre half he was offered an unknown 800k player who failed a medical, what's the use of having money if they don't spend it?

A lot of signings didn't work out in the past when lawell was involved signing players but if he sticks to what he's good at there's few better out there, look at the players his relationship wae city has got us, Roberts, denayer, guidetti hardly dross. We're cleaning up wae sponsors, pre season tournaments etc. If he leaves the best manager we've had since O'Neil to sign players wae the help of his top class backroom team then we'll do just fine.

I find it amusing that most Celtic fans continually claim to be frustrated at how we handle transfer windows and getting in please players early.

This year we went into the qualifiers with a makeshift defence. A defence that even if we didn't have injuries still needed beefing up. We also played a game with no striker.

How can anyone defend that? Lawell is the man. He gets paid to make things happen when we need them to happen.

We still only have one CB for Tuesday. This is down to the CEO and Brendan.

They were the ones who raised the expectation bar. When they don't hit it don't blame people for pointing that out.

We are not talking about spending like Rangers blah feckin blah. That's always trotted out as an excuse for not doing anything and avoiding criticism. We all know we need a better defence including FB. Where is it?

Lawells job is to use the additional resources to get better players. Is £800k for a 20 year old ambitious? I thought the boy looked good but, he was a risk even before we found out he was crocked.

Lawell is not above criticism. Or should ever be.

{Ed007's Note - How do we only have one CB for Tuesday? We've got Simunovic, Boyata and Ajer with Lustig and Tierney able to slot in there and Bitton as an emergency, that's 6 right there and Sviatchenko has still to come back.}

We have one fit main choice, would Ajer or Bitton be considered if Boyata or Shev were fit?

No they wouldn't. Of course we have makeshift options. That's not the issue. The issue is why do we have to rely on makeshift.

We are in the group and haven't added to make it hard for either of the two injured players to return. I don't think either of them are good enough, we don't even have them and that's not good enough.

{Ed007's Note - Boyata is fit though.}
