Dorus de Vries apparently in Glasgow for a medical. Forests player of the year last season but will he genuinely challenge Gordon for number 1?

12 Aug 2016 09:45:17
Has anyone seen much of him play? Iv heard the name but I don't anything about him apart from he's played in the old spl.

2.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 09:48:19
I hope he fails it in all honesty. Not any better than the bomb scare we already have.

12 Aug 2016 10:16:35
I will not be happy at all with this Signing! Why not try and get the young Dundee keeper if it is just cover! This boy is 35 and no better than Gordon! Not happy if this is true!

4.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 10:27:30
Rodgers rates him very highly 35 or not, signed him for Swansea then tried to sign him for Liverpool.

5.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 10:34:25
We're all thinking we are going to get vorm because of the signings we've made so far don't know much about him but I was looking for a longer term solution!

6.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 10:37:18
Read a wee bit about the guy seems br knows him really well tried to sign him for Liverpool and was forrests Poy last year so let's trust our manager he's done not too bad up till now.

7.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 11:15:04
I'd rather have Gordon in goal, and that's saying something.

8.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 11:45:41
Things have been looking great recently with Toure and Sinclair joining. A few players leaving on loan and Rogic committing for another 3 years.

Then we shoot ourselves in the foot by giving Forrest a new deal and signing a goalkeeper who we will get a year or 2 out of at best. 2 terrible pieces of business in a week. Hopefully the positive is that we have saved the money to buy a decent player for the other position Rodgers wants to fill.

9.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 12:23:16
I don't know what all the fuss about Forrest getting a new contract is. He's obviously a player the manager likes, and he's been playing well since Rodgers came. He's young so now that he's under contract he can't walk away for nothing, so even if he doesn't play well we can get 1 million for him next season if need be. Seems a no brainer.

{Ed007's Note - Why would anyone pay £1 million for Forrest when nobody wanted him for nothing? James Forrest will see this 3 year deal out, get his testimonial and walk away for nothing IF he can find another club. He's been pulling the same strokes every time he's been due a new deal, remember his agent told the press Spurs were willing to pay £9 million for him so the Celtic fans thought he must be good if Spurs want him.}

10.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 12:27:28
give the guy a chance, BR has not disappointed yet also forrest is coming on to a game under BR as well, put some trust in him!

{Ed007's Note - Rodgers hasn't disappointed yet? I was more than disappointed by the Red Imps game, I'm still mortified by that and so should every other supporter.}

11.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 12:50:49
Ed 001 told us yesterday that this keeper was took off in his last game he played that bad. Like folks say what's the thinking in bringing in another keeper the same as calamity jane oh a mean Gordon!

12.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 12:55:49
Thee of little faith.

13.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 13:07:46
No stew he was took off injured, he still mite have been playing Shoite but! Lol. i'm not impressed either by this signing but I'm willing to give him a chance! Don't want any more of these so Called stop gaps but! And I agree with ED totally! The red imps game was a massive embarssment to the fans and BR, no matter what he says! But we're 2 game from the CL against a more than beatable team! So while I'll never forget it, I will forgive it! Aslong as we make the group stages! And as for Forrest. i would have let him rot in the reserves if it was my choice! Knocked back the clubs offers and realised nobody wanted him! So now he's eager to sign a new deal, not for me I'm afraid! Obviously BR rates him and he has started well, but I just hope he keeps it up and doesn't go back to the Shoite he's been the past few seasons!

14.) 12 Aug 2016
12 aug 2016 13:08:21
it was a slip up not a disappointment, and i'm happy it came early and against red imps rather than it being sevco or hearts away, learned from it quickly and moved on, in my opinion he hasn't disappointed, everything is positive, don't get how any fan isn't happy with the way the club is going.

{Ed007's Note - I've not seen anyone on here unhappy with the way the Club is going. Are people only allowed an opinion if it's that everything the Club or Rodgers does is brilliant? You'd be better on CQN if that's all you want to read.}

15.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 13:10:21
If delia had signed Forrest on again you would have been going nuts now as its Rodgers it's give the boy a chance a suppose it's rules for 1 different for others.

16.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 13:28:52
De Vries was taken off on a stretcher after 19 minutes with the score at 0-0 last week. He wasn't subbed for playing poorly. I'm a little disappointed mainly because I wanted a bigger name like Vorm but De Vries was outstanding for Forest last season while Vorm sat on the bench for Spurs. I trust Rodgers judgement. His signings look good so far.

17.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 13:32:45
Fair point bhoys, ps just new to this so don't want to make any enemies haha! HH.

{Ed007's Note - There'll be no enemies, John, we're all Tims together on here. We'll soon whip you into shape, and if we don't we'll set Chris (Old Bhoy) on you to bore you to death.}

18.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 13:52:34
Without sounding too patronising, the opinions shared by people on here are just that . Opinions . Just because Ed gives his opinion doesn't mean it has to be bang on, how many people on this site including myself have seen a lot of de vries on a regular basis . I would presume not a lot . I personally don't rate Gordon either but if there's a budget left, say for arguments sake of 6 million maybe the manager sees it better judgement to pay a small amount and leave the budget for an outfield player he thinks we need .

19.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 14:04:32
Some managers are just right for certain players remember big jock pulled jinky aside and asked how he wasn't playing first team football, deila helped griff and just maybe Brendan is right for forrest time will tell, there's no debate he looks in good form and if he maintains that form that's good for us no argument.

{Ed007's Note - Remember the last time Forrest was fit and showed any form - it was just around the same time he signed his last deal. This is a player that 4 years ago refused to change his car even though it was affecting his sciatica and stopping him from getting fit.}

20.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 14:31:24
Forrest has played very well since BR came in and he obviously sees something in him. Forrest will be good cover for Roberts and Sinclair and if he's signed the contract that PL had on the table months ago then I'm quite happy as it must have been lower than the one he had before as his form has been woefull. The keeper one is a harder one to understand but BR knows him very well so we will have to take his word for it and give the new guy our full support. Bar has learned very quickly from the Imps debarcle and he fully understands that he needs to keep us happy and in my opinion he is and long may it last, the football against Motherwell was superb to watch. Hail Hail.

You called it there Ryan. Comment of the day.

22.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 15:41:04
No argument ed agree he's no angel but am willing to give him this last chance if he can maintain current form if he reverts to norm hopefully could move him on.

{Ed007's Note - He's had too many chances for me. He'll need to be our star player in Europe this year to even begin to make up for the wages he's stole masquerading as a player for the last 7 years. This is his 8th season as a first team squad member, how many chances should he get.}

23.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 15:47:37
PMSL Ed, (Old Bhoy) I thought Chris had tidied up his act and was nowhere near as antagonistic as he used to be mate

But I was stunned when he said he had got his teeth whitened just like BR a thought you had punched them out a long long time ago ¬P.

{Ed007's Note - But Chris can leave his teeth to get whitened, we need to stay with ours.}

I agree completely with Ed n I've said it a few times Rd had Forrest the fittest n most injury free he has been for years, he was great start of rd's 1st sesson, when fit, then went off form. 2nd season he was great start of the season n went off form n refused a new contract so as bitter big Sutton said he was discarded (I hope next time Rd sees him he puts the nut on him because he has been a complete Rd hater n he along with Hartson were clearly gutted at their buddy being replaced) Imagine if Rd had given Forrest a new deal n got beat off the red imps, I'm sure everyone would be praising him as the Messiah, I keep seeing the scene from the life of brian the way the hero worshippers have been with br, so much so that the contradictions compared to Rd are astonishing.
I want br to-do an outstanding job for Celtic, I can see us doing well game by game, form, type of play, intensity, pressing, etc but that won't happen all the time, Rd also, when he was given a decent type of player, guidetti, denayer, had us playing some great attacking football and for periods of rd's time we really looked the part. Just before any of the Rd haters come on n try n put him down, at stromsgodset in his 3rd season things started shaping up really nicely. Football takes time, too many were too quick 2 put the boot in but if it's someone u favour 4 instance Mon or br they'll be allowed that leeway that Rd or Strachan wouldn't have got. People should wake up 2 the fact that we r Celtic fans n u back the manager n the club 2 the hilt, n Rd was treated very shabbily for a guy who delivered 3 trophies.
People also need to be realistic, far too many have already set 2 many goals/ expectations on Rd and now future managers, will be judged on whether they win a treble, whether they get 2 the holy grail, champions league group stages, n the outstanding attacking football they play, well suppose like Ryan says depends who the manager is and being Irish sure helps. Hail hail.

You can't say nobody would buy Forrest if he has a good season, and for that reason it's better he signs. I don't see the issue with him not accepting the first offer, it's not like he didn't have a full year of the previous one still to run.

26.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 22:24:58
Slightly underwhelming if he's one of only two players BR told the board he wants.

27.) 12 Aug 2016
12 Aug 2016 23:26:33
Maybe Fasan is the long term solution and BR just wants somebody to shore things up for the time being.

28.) 13 Aug 2016
13 Aug 2016 00:14:33
I'm kinda sitting on the fence with forrest and can't make my mind up.
Ed made a good point that the last time he looked good was around his last contract renewal and this is something that is common in a lot of players now.
He doesn't seem interested enough for me and drifts in and out of games.
He also has a tendency to get the ball stuck under his feet and his final ball needs to improve.

Having said that he has looked much better under BR and I know it's soon to say but I trust his judgment on this so I'm willing to give him a shot.

IF he's to be a first team player he needs to be scoring in the region of 15 goals a season with a similar assist ratio.
Just not 100% convinced he can do that but hopefully he does.

COYBIG.

Ed just u wait till eld Chris wakes up on Sunday. Ul get it tight.

13 Aug 2016 01:29:56
This might just be me. Is this forrest saga not just a zero risk distraction? This wee run of form. We are talking about him. The window is running down and I still think this has taken our eye away from demanding a few signings that cost money? We haven't forked out anything more than usual although I'm mostly pleased with what we have brought in. We now have cover for Bailey and that will be it now. Still think we need a striker and a top cm.

31.) 13 Aug 2016
13 Aug 2016 12:42:14
Oh No Ed!, you'd better gie him them back mate (teeth)

You know he is even worse when he starts " bumping his gums "

=D (Y)

{Ed007's Note - I will when he stumps up the ransom.}
