Celtic are on the verge of completing a deal for Brescia's Ahmad Benali.

The 23-year-old Libyan international is a former Manchester City youth player, and has been in Lombardy since 2012.

A website reports that the player is very close to agreeing a move to the Scottish champions, with only the signatures yet to be agreed.

Benali has a contract until 2016, but it is not yet known if a fee has been agreed between the clubs for the defensive midfielder.

If its true then they must think very highly of the guy as the sitting midfield positions are where I believe we are strongest. Browm, bitton, armstrong, mulgrew, henderson. That would make it 6 CDM players fighting for 2 places. Like I say they must be impressed.markie

@Markie - Brown and Bitton are solid in CM but we don't have good cover. Mulgrew is crap in that position as he lacks pace. Both Henderson & Armstrong are better suited to a more attacking role. This is an area we need to strengthen as we are in trouble if Brown or Bitton get injured.

Sorry mate I don't agree regarding armstrong and henderson.I think they are better DM players. Armstrong recently said he prefered DM but was happy to play anywhere. The quality of both these players is so good that that they can fit in anywhere though. Markie.

{Ed007's Note - I see Armstrong as being Brown's long term replacement IF we can hold onto him until Brown leaves or retires.}

I think every successive manager is always looking to improve the hub of his team ie centre midfield .
Having said that I wouldn't be surprised if there was any truth in the rumour about Benali, it just seems as if the media are putting 2 and 2 together .

It looks we may see how good Armstrong or Henderson are in this role as Bitton got injured in yesterday's match. I hope I am wrong about these guys being able to play that position as it is probably the most important position in the team as it provides cover for the defence and sets up our attacks as well.

@Ed007 - I don't see Armstrong as successor to Brown unless you just mean he will be the next Celtic captain. Deila has likened Armstrong to Muller, which gives an indication of how he will be deployed in the team. Armstrong is completely different player to Brown and has a totally different mentality as well.

Did you do a survey for those managers chris. Speechless you even stated that after the rub you gave me for claiming all forward thinking clubs look to bring players in. You should write things down old man, that way you'll remember them better. ;)
