According to one of my buddys we are to.sell ki and wanyama and get fernandinho and willian?I didnt think it was true just to.see if anyone else heard this

Believable6 Unbelievable17

Willian who Chelsea decided was too expensive?

Dazz

Agree1 Disagree0

Are you actually trying to kid us on? The boy Willian was being talked about going to Chelsea/Spurs for 20m+

Absolutely 0% chance that would happen!

Agree0 Disagree0

Listen mate we have more chance of signing will i am than willian

Skinnybhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Aha, well in mate, that is officially the most ridiculous I've heard in my life!

Agree0 Disagree0

Willian at udinesie {Ed007's Note - It is Willians that plays for Udinese, Willian plays for Shakhtar Donetsk.}

If Peter lawell used his head he would realise that probably 90% of fans want Jordan Rhodes at celtic,if that was to happen that would excite the fans and most importantly put bums on the seats.do you reckon that Rhodes would fancy a crack at champions league?honestly think he would be a revelation!

Believable15 Unbelievable8

Would be a good signing for us without a doubt, it's just whether he can continue in that excellent vein of form. The other question remains though. Could he cut it at the highest level in Europe? I am beginning to doubt that.

Agree1 Disagree0

To be fair in all the u21games he's been outstanding, his performance against the Dutch was fantastic in both games.spl will be a scoosh for him and in Europe he will defo learn more at Celtic than with Blackburn rovers!

Agree0 Disagree0

Even though 90% of the fans may want this, it's the manager that see's the team train every day and it is his judgement and targers Peter Lawlell will support.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with the OP. Rhodes would be a sensational signing and one that the vast majority of fans would welcome. Not just because of his potential, but also because of his background. A move to Celtic followed by a decent run in the team would also help to cement his place in the Scotland team. Rhodes would be top of my list of players to sign and I believe we should pull out all the stops in order to get him.

Agree0 Disagree0

For the money he would cost i think we could get two good players as so far our scouting policy has paid dividends

Agree0 Disagree0

Rhodes is being quoted as 7m, can we afford to be paying that for one player? Plus he would command a wage of 35,ooo. I'd rather trust John Park to unearth another gem or bring through youngsters like Tony Watt.

DazzaBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't need or want him. Simples

Linnie88

Agree0 Disagree0

As i have posted many times before - we would need to break our transfer record to get him.
7M.
In the current climate.
No chance, unfortunately................kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I must be in the 10% who doesn't think he's a must have signing. Scored plenty for Huddersfield fair enough but that's the 3rd tier of English Football, there has got to be a better striker for a similar price who can help us push on it Europe than Rhodes.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scouting has paid dividends, lol center half ? bangura, murphy, rassmusen to name but a few, on the other hand we got kayal ect

Agree0 Disagree0

4 million + for him, not a chance we will pay that, we will buy a 1 million striker from timbuktoo before rhodes, look at the money we have squandered over the last few seasons, murphy bangura and the ra man that is how much we have came down a step. we need to get a no nonsense hairy arsed bully bhoy of a center half in before a striker i would be spending 6 million on 2 center backs before rhodes

Agree0 Disagree0

The scouting has paid dividends, we've signed Kayal, Wanyama, Rogne, Hooper, Izzaguire, Matthews for next to nothing. Your evidentally on the wrong page if you highlighted the likes of Bangura, Rasmussen etc!

DazzaBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Name a better striker out there for a similar price whom Celtic would have a realistic chance of signing. Go on, name one!!!! Ok, Rhodes is young and relatively unproven, but the potential is there for all to see. If we are honest then most of the teams in the SPL are not much better than those in the 3rd tier of English football. Jordan Rhodes would have no problems finding the net on a regular basis up here. Rhodes has also scored a record 8 goals so far for Scotland U21s in their latest campaign. He is one for the future, of that there is no doubt. I think Celtic would provide him with the perfect platform to step up a notch

Agree0 Disagree0

Can we afford to pay 7 million for one player? If we sell Ki and get into the CL, then the simple answer to that question is YES

Agree0 Disagree0

Are you for real? The days of any Scottish team paying 7m for 1 player are well gone! We can't afford him, but we do have a scout that could unearth a new Hooper.

DazzaBhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Re
"Can we afford to pay 7 million for one player? If we sell Ki and get into the CL, then the simple answer to that question is YES"
When did we set/match our transfer record? With John Hartsons' move -6M - over 10 years ago.
We got to the last 16 of the Champions League twice in a row in later years 07/08(?) - did we spend anything like that 6m again? NO.
Why? because we used that money to bring the debt down - debt that was incurred during the O'neill (spending) years. We have been cutting our cloth accordingly ever since.
Big transfer fees are a thing of the past!!..............kbt1978

Agree0 Disagree0

Blackburn have just had a 2 mil bid turned down. Surely we can offer more than that

Agree0 Disagree0

If rhodes is as good as people are making out epl teams would be falling over themselves to sign him i may be wrong but i dont see any of them too interested in him.

Taking everything into consideration I reckon our best shot at qualifying for the Group Stages of the Champions League is if we draw AEL Limassol of Cyprus. Do not want to play CFR Cluj as they had a couple of good results against Chelsea in the CL a few seasons ago if I remember correctly. Would like to avoid Maribor and Helsingborgs at all costs as they both seem like well organised teams. As for Ironi Kiryat Shmona, that would probably the worst possible draw. The away game in Israel could be catastrophic if the players cannot cope with the heat. AEL seems our best. Having said that, we will probably get the Israeli team or the likes of Helsingborgs. This always happens. We talk about the easier teams we could get in the draw and we always, always, end up with the hardest one. Anyway, going by last night's performance, we can beat anyone on our day, whether that be on grass or plastic. HH!

Believable3 Unbelievable10

To be honest mate youve basically said every team we could possible get is a bad draw except 1. Im quite comfiedent that we could beat every one of these teams over 2 legs if we all get behind the team and NL brings in a couple of players before the first game. But i do understand what you are saying and i agree a trip to Isreal would be a very difficult tie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure why Cyprus in the heat would be any better than Israel, Cyprus is off the coast of Israel and would probably be just as warm. Celtic shouldn't be worried about any of those teams, but would have to agree about the Cluj bit. Cluj did stand up well to Chelsea. But the current team should be able to comfortably deal with both Helsingborgs and Maribor, if they can't, we have no right being in the Champions League proper.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think it's hot in Cyprus too mate. Think helsingborgs is our best bet to get through all the teams will be well organised

Agree0 Disagree0

Helsingborg my choice, Cluj least appealing. Still would like to think over two legs we could beat any of these teams. Hbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

If our luck is anything like the group draws we have had in the past we will get the most difficult opponents

Just seen on sly blackburn confident on signing rhodes and rhodes keen on move.

Greentartanhoops

Believable4 Unbelievable5

If Celtic get into the CL then I can 100% guarantee you that Rhodes will either come to us or go to a Premiership club. That's the only reason why, he's holding out for a big move. Why would he want to take a sideways step by going to Blackburn? No European football, a support that hates their manager and not testing himself to the limit.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would have loved him at Parkhead if it is not to be . We move on , but we still need a good striker

Agree0 Disagree0

According to sly, the ball is in huddersfields court.

Ed the champions league is an if but surely we would get money from going into group stages of Europa league? Trickycelt. {Ed007's Note - The money is nowhere near the CL though, you only get 640,000 Euros for reaching the group stages, 60,000 Euros for each match played in them and 140,000 Euros per win, 70,000 Euros per draw.}

Evening edd 007,well happy with score last nite not fearing anybody in the draw,i think the start of season looking good,3 games 2 clean sheets 1 conceaded, euro football in some form,
Yes we need players in our opinions but if its not broke why fix it.
Pre seasons ment nothing thats what everyone is in the opinion we need them,as you would agree I think if we need a CB that much why we only lost 1 goal in 3,
I n my brother both shareholders always attend AGM I can honestly tell yous all we have to worry about is supporting the players on the pitch, like any good club what happens on pitch will happen n dont worry about upstairs, from top to bottom the people involved have celtic at heart like us all.
The frustations last weekend was a poor show in my eyes,
We as a club are on to good things players worth millions, poss 15 mill cheque, then rest of money from adventures of 2012/2013.
Lets all be thankfull we prospering lets aupport the players we got n if any new ones them to.

ED007 just saw highlights on Youtube. I take it they have paid for showing
SPL highlights, so much for no company would be interested in Scottish football. Do you think Celtic should be looking to avoid any of the 5 teams mentioned or should we, as I think, be capable of beating any of them. Cluj and Helsingbor look toughest as they are mid season. Romanian teams are always hard to beat and Cluj have biggest ground (21,000).
Fans would love Cyprus for a wee holiday the Israeli teams ground only holds 5,000 and travelling would be problem. Maribor are experienced european campaigners, but it would be good to beat them where some other club failed last season.
I hope it is Limassol hail hail Timalloy {Ed007's Note - I'm never overly confident Tim but I don't think we have anything to be scared of in the next round. If we can go out and play our usual game with a bit of confidence I don't see any problems. The other teams will be more worried about facing us than we should be of any them.}

Does anyone know what has happened to Shane long at west brom. We were linked last summer with him and its not worked out for him there. Don't know if we could afford him and I know he's not the target man everyone is talking about but he has pace to burn and an eye for goal.
On last nights performance , I thought brown, Ledley and mulgrew were magnificent and I thought Forster was magnificent. Even at crosses and he made two fantastic saves at vital times

Believable6 Unbelievable4

Is this some sort of wind up. He played 32 .PL games last season scoring 8 goals and got injured a couple of times, resulting in him missing a good part of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok I see, so we can only buy players who have never been injured .
So that's 8 goals he got with being injured half the season as well, plus let's not forget Chris Sutton got 1 or 2 goals season before we signed him. If your going to shoot people's idea at least be a bit smarter about it {Ed007's Note - Sutton wasn't injured at Chelsea, his and Chelsea's styles of play just didn't mix well.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I never said Sutton was injured , just that pointed out he only got 2 goals. Who's to say long doesn't fit into west broms way of playing . Just my opinion he'd be a good signing, not saying I'm right

Agree0 Disagree0

Never said he wouldn't be a good signing cause he would be a great signing for us just that you clearly said wot happened to him that it hadn't worked out when it clearly has. He's one of there best players! Hail Hail Brother

Agree0 Disagree0

Sorry mate, long night

Agree0 Disagree0

Sutton had a big reputation thats why chelsea spent 10mill.It didnt work out it happens, but shane long aint no sutton would be another waste of money.....jimthetim......

Maybe I'm just being cynical but if wanyama wasn't suspended for the next round he would be cup tied for CL and possibly jeopardise a move to either arsenal or man utd......

Believable4 Unbelievable7

Wrong if he moved to another club in europe now he wont be able to play until after christmas as celtic will be in europe until at least december

Agree0 Disagree0

He'll only be banned for 1 leg of the next round anyway

Hey Ed a few questions, heard we get 1.5mill for making it to the playoff round and was wondering if we were to advance do we get another mill or so or will we get the 15mill next for going into group stage? More importantly is do we get any coefficient points for making it to playoffs and will we get some if we make it through to group, or is it you only get points once your in group and how far you go?

Let's goe bhoys! I can feel the Celtic name making some big noise to once again be among the top clubs and back to our European recognition where we belong. {Ed007's Note - I posted the financial breakdown of CL money last night. Regarding the coefficient points we will have received 4 points, (you get two points for a win and one for a draw throughout the competition), for our two wins in the last round, if we reach the group stages we will collect a bonus 4 points.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hi ed, just a wee query, do you not get extra co-efficient points for the goals to? {Ed007's Note - I think that is only used when working out the international rankings for Euros/World Cups etc.}

Great Result last night and an assured performance!

Now please please invest in a top drawer CB. Someone who will make a difference to that backline. Berra has been touted and I have no doubt he is good but is he any better than Rogne....I doubt it. Get out there and get someone really good.

Well done BHOYS!

The Michael Owen rumour has gathered some momentum the player says he wouldn't rule a move to the hoops......jiggythetim

Believable7 Unbelievable14

Please no. He should retire to his Horses. Injury prone and past it long ago!

Richybhoy

Agree1 Disagree0

Think if he was fit he would outscore every Celtic player no problemsvatvall

Agree0 Disagree1

Plagued by injury but if fit and getting game time uphere unlike the odd 10mins back up at Man Utd then I think he'd run riot, experienced for eueope as well. The big question though is do we spend large sum on a player with no financial return at end of contract or push the boat out on young gun, Rhodes? Surely the boy's got bigger asperations than Blackburn!

Agree0 Disagree0

Would not want an old timer now and he was wanted a while ago by the gers

Believable4 Unbelievable13

Dont think we need him tbh! 67wasouryear

Liam Lawrence can get to Timbucktoo. Had his chance to join Celtic and turned us down to join Portsmouth. Plus we can do much better than someone like him.

Great display last night and another monkey off Lenny's back.Despite a poor pitch and a,lets say erratic Ref,i thought we controlled most of the game. One or two iffy moments second half but all things considered worthy winners, with the bonus of a shut out for our much maligned defenders.Top Bhoys? Brown i thought was outstanding from start to finish,Ledley is becoming a very important player in the make up of our team and Mulgrew, especially for the first goal, was very thoughtful in every thing he done.Having said that i thought all the guys did a job and worked hard to close down and retain possession.Big Vic needs to work on the patience side of his game, although i thought his first booking was harsh, and learn that sometimes you dont have to tackle.Lets hope the draw is kind to us.............green jhedi

Sly spurts say we are after a Japan striker hope not , ony scored ten goals in 6 years of top flight football and he's not a target man 5"8 hope we go after that guy from Iceland Alfredo he looks the part seen bits on u tube he scores a lot of headers (kenny)

Believable1 Unbelievable4

Hate to disappoint you but Alfred Finbogasson is on loan at Helsinborgs this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair I saw nagai at hampden for the Olympics and he was immense very nippy and pacey! Just lacked a cutting edge but he was still very very impressive

Agree0 Disagree0

Finbogasson's loan runs out in September, remember the Scandinavians start earlier!

Agree0 Disagree0

Also I think Nagai would do well in SPL, however he would have to play as a link-up forward not a striker as his goal ratio is, well there's no other way to put it, poor!
