Spanish defender Javier Manquillo is on Celtic's radar. He recently returned to Atletico Madrid after his two-year loan at Anfield was terminated early by mutual consent. Atletico wanted the player to have more 1st team game time and Liverpool couldn't facilitate .at 21 he would be an interesting addition .good pedigree

Not sure with janko mate unless janko plays further forward for the constantly injured Forrest!

ED007 are you happy with this signing, as we all know what you think of Gordon. Apparently he comes with a decent reputation, admittedly a few years ago, but to play for Belgium he must be decent, so maybe give Gordon some genuine competition and at the very least keep Gordon on his A game.

Agree1 Disagree5

{Ed007's Note - It doesn't matter what his reputation is, if his knees and wrists are OK he's got to be better than Gordon.}

Craig Gordon played 52 games for us last year and was probably our most consistent player. Yes he made a couple of mistakes but who didn't? He's been that good Forster hasn't been missed at all. You'd think coming back from injury to perform so well would deserve praise not criticism

His mistakes got us kicked out of the champions league, Europa league and the Scottish cup

SpotSpot on LM67. I like Gordon, has been excellent for us overall.

Forster hasn't been missed so who would u prefer Gordon or forster?

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Jul 2015 20:37:26
He made the most costly mistakes though LM. CL qualifiers, Inter, Cup Semi. It's that sympathy vote that got him the football writers award. Put in some decent performances. Nothing you wouldn't expect from a pro keeper though. I for one have missed Forster. He's a better keeper.

I'm with you LM 67, Craig Gordon has been excellent for us, not sure why Ed007 constantly tries to rubbish him? It's the same with LG, the bHoy has been brilliant for us. Hail Hail

08 Jul 2015 20:43:50
Have to agree with LM67. Do you not think you are being harsh with your criticism of Gordon? He without a doubt contributed to us not being hammered in Europe again and dug out a number of games with saves to ensure we won games which could have resulted in draws or losses. Without him in goals Aberdeen would have been a lot closer to us or even worse winners. I am a little surprised in your opinion of him. What do you base this on Ed?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Watching him.}

08 Jul 2015 20:50:27
Some decent performances? He was absolutely exceptional away to Salzburg and at home to Zagreb. Yes he made mistakes, and at costly times, but so did Forster. Cup final against Rangers when he let a Davis shot with no power go past him and at home to AC Milan in the CL when he failed to come out for 2 corners where they scored from close range. My point was that we have replaced one great keeper with another. I'm happy for Gordon to be our number 1 for years to come

08 Jul 2015 20:51:22
still on about the rubbish about him costing us the CL utter garbage Johansen was more at fault for saving one from going in for us ffs! Granted CG had a howler against Inter

08 Jul 2015 21:16:05
If we are looking at any1 player that cost us it's van dijk lackadaisical at times and but best cb we've had at other times, he's gotten too big and thinks he's better than us when he got tested in Europe against the better teams he crumbled I'd sell him if he wants away and critics of Gordon need to remember he single handledly saved us at points last season he's an outstanding keeper and too get him for nothing is an absolute steal of the century. I think at times Celtic fans expect too much because of the secession of over achievements over the past few years. When we can't compete with EPL we can't even compete with championship in wages so give our new players a chance and get behind the team this year and hope we over achieve by making the champions league

I for one think Gordon is better than Forster.
He commands his area far better than Forster.
He is way better at catching high balls versus trying to parry or punch.
I admit big Fraser was probably a better reaction saver and close range shot stopper but Craig is not far behind and on balance a better more reliable keeper.
Everyone makes mistakes.EVERYONE
My worry on Gordon was coming back from severe injury and being available. he proved he is fit and back to his best. look at his consistency last season!
Was never a fan of Zaluska. New guy will push Gordon and be available to sub when needed. at least on paper.

Ed007 has had it in for Gordon from the start .
From memory never a plaudit but constant negativity.
The lad was offered a deal, no fee, maybe Ed007 can confirm the wages but I guess not major, and over the season has proved an asset. Who would the Ed prefer to be in goal bearing in mind all the constraints?
Also, does the Ed analysis all players mistakes with same scrutiny? As fellow poster mentioned, other players more at fault for Euro failures but I suppose easy to overlook when you have a "target"

People keep going on about the Inter game. If it wasn't for his outstanding performances in the groups we wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the knockout stages. He didn't make any more mistakes than anybody else last season, it just gets highlighted more when it's the GK because there's nobody else to bail them out. My opinion of course. Although I think you can be overly critical of him Ed and it seems like a personal thing rather than a footballing thing at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - I think you overthink things and I think too many fans are afraid to criticise a player incase they upset others so it's easier to just follow the pack rather than think for themselves.
Gordon cost us CL football, Gordon cost us v Inter in the EL and Gordon cost us the domestic treble. That was 3 massive games where he badly let us down not to mention the amount of times he cost us goals by rebounding the ball back into the danger area after a save, one of the most basic GKing errors.
People still hold the Juve game against Ambrose so why can't I criticise CG for mistakes he's made, mistakes that ruined our season.
Let's hope if he stays fit his mistakes aren't as costly in this coming season.}

09 Jul 2015 13:10:17
It's fair enough to say Gordon cost us in various games but let's not forget Ronny cost us just as much with his poor tactics and player selections at times.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2015 19:49:14
Wasn't it 2 howlers against Inter not one? He did bail us out at times in the group credit where credit is due. So it should be the same for criticism.

Celtic have won the race for Real Madrids Norwegian youngster Oddegard!

Believable2 Unbelievable5

08 Jul 2015 12:45:57
I hope not. I was desperate to get him last summer but if we're only getting him for a year when we already have plenty of midfielders then it seems a bit pointless.

Agree2 Disagree1

08 Jul 2015 13:37:29
It wouldn't be pointless if he was better than what we have or better than the majority of players currently at Celtic Park. I haven't seen him in the flesh nor have I witnessed his impact and influence, but we do lack a cutting (creative) edge and there would be no downside if he was to come in and have an impact.

We all seem to think that we have an abundance of quality. Real aren't knocking on the doors of Celtic Park trying to prize away our current eleven or our youth players, therefore why would it be such a bad thing to spectate a young emerging talent who was courted by ALL of Europe's elite clubs?

Agree2 Disagree1

08 Jul 2015 14:24:53
Paradise, I have no doubt he'll be good enough to at least play a part. Odegaard and GMS either side of Johansen would be great I think. I'd even fancy Ciftci to be good infront of those three.

Think the concerns are more about the possible hamper it could have on development of our 'OWN' players. Generally speaking i'm not a huge fan of loans in a club of our size unless we have the say as to whether the player stays 'long term'.

Agree1 Disagree1

08 Jul 2015 15:01:03
Now he would make a great number 7 and also Real can only give him a 3 year contract if things work well at Celtic park and don't go well when he goes back to Madrid maybe we could get him back when his contract finishes

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Jul 2015 17:57:14
Paradise once again you are spot on M8 but I agree with JimTim I worry about the development of our own players if he does come in who do we leave out?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Jul 2015 01:56:18
I don't understand why there has been any negativity AT ALL surrounding this move. Unless there is a heavily weighted clause in the loan agreement that he has to start?

Our youth academy has produced next to nothing. Yes there are players coming through and I want them to develop, but if they are chasing this lad even if it is for just a season then it will raise the quality of our home grown players. He plays AM, the only other players we want played in there apart from the given, are Henderson or maybe Rogic if he can cut it and stay fit. That frees up another 10 positions for youth players to be given game time if they are good enough!
There have been a few stories about him getting a tad above his station at Real. If it is to be believed then the reaction has = Detention way Ronny .
He is a choir boy compared to Cifti ffs :)
All things aside. Think about it. One of the highest rated young midfielders in the game. In our squad. It can only be a good thing.

09 Jul 2015 19:55:43
I hadn't seen much of him but saw a clip of him yesterday and he has good dribbling abilities, Great awareness and splits defences when others (Commons)take selfish long range shots. He would give us that cutting edge that Commons lacks in Europe and early in his career played in the number 67 shirt before changing to 16. There's an element of fate there that he will don the hoops one day :)
