Seems Mcginn will be announced as a Villa player in about 15 minutes.

McGinn signs for Villa. Well done Lawell, why don’t you go to Villa with him? I bet he goes for £20m within two years.

Scunnered. Feckin cheapskate.

Agree8 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 19:28:15
I hope Lawell gets pelters tonight. He deserves it.

Agree7 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 19:31:37
As much I think he wasn’t the player for us, if he wanted to play for Celtic then he would have said no

Clearly the move is money oriented and on that note all the best playing in the championship.

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 19:38:33
The move was motivated by guaranteed playing time it seems. If we had done our job weeks ago it wouldn't have came to this. We are one injury/ suspension to Brown or Ntcham away from trouble. Eboue isn't going to cut it and the only other real option is for McGregor to drop back where he is less effective.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 19:40:32
He is an excellent player and he will move on for a fortune. Lawell has cost us a good player and millions. But look on the bright side Defabet deal. Every cloud.

Agree2 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 19:45:37
Lawell you person. What a huge mistake made. BR will rightly be mad and annoyed. All talk and no action. Disgrace.

08 Aug 2018 20:37:30
Hell mend us.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 20:46:52
PL has embarrassed our club with his pathetic efforts to sign a player BR was desperate to have. Regardless of Petries stance we could easily have got this done weeks ago by offering Allan as part of the deal. Pathetic!

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:20:14
As long as they get that 2m spent somewhere its more needed I'll be happy.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 22:58:01
Where we ever aloud to speak to him? Looks like hibs were never going to play ball. Starting price £3m then move it to £4m to sell to a team in cash rich England for less than want our total deal was worth.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 23:03:13
Well so much for McGinn being a Celtic man. All about money. Nothing more!

Agree2 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 23:29:18
Listen to people trying to blame McGinn lol, what an absolute rid neck.

If the club wanted him so bad they would have bid properly for him.

They didn't and McGinn signs for the first club to show REAL interest in him.

Why should he suddenly change his mind for Celtic when they have a change of heart at the last minute?

We stalled and he had a decision to make, a club came in who probably offer better wages and are serious about their interest. Good luck to him.

Agree2 Disagree1

09 Aug 2018 00:17:06
Well said Tesla. PL is to blame for this shambles no one else. Good luck to McGinn hope he is a huge success down there. Villa have got a fantastic player.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 00:37:25
Embarrassing that people are blaming McGinn and citing money as his motivation.

He clearly wanted 2 things - playing time, and a club to show that they actually wanted to sing him. We offerred neither.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 04:13:36
Once again I will say Mc is an ok player who wouldn't have improved the team as it is . Also it was Mc Ginn who signed for Villa, that's right the all singing all dancing Celtic fan who ultimately had the choice . PS no fan of Lawwell .

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 09:34:07
Am a missing something here? Have we missed out on Ronaldo? Aye ok Rodgers said he liked him but he wouldn't get in the starting 11 week in week out, a bit part player with potential, nothing more.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 09:37:47
Its go nothing to do with the PL or Celtic not stumping up the cash for McGinn. We met Petrie's valuation 3 times and every time that Sevco sympathiser changed the goal post of McGinn's valuation. We tabled a take it or leave it offer to force Petrie's hand and it failed as Villa came in for him. Over a 2/ 3 weeks period Celtic had no chance to speak to the player, Villa table 1 bid and McGinn is in Birmingham within 24 hours to speak to the Villa board and complete a signing. Petrie ruined this move for us no one else, he is a person in hibs clothing and has an absolute hatred of Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 11:08:13
Any suggestions that McGinn only cares about money are pathetic. Villa showed him they actually wanted him and didn't mess him about the way we did. I'm good friends with a family member of his and he's told me a couple of things that make us seem very arrogant and amateurish. Some of you might not believe me but any regulars on here know I'm not one who ever falsely claims to be "in the know" on things.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2018 13:09:13
Ed what's your feelings on this? I honestly thought Mcginn would be been a great signing and am a little gutted that we didn't push it through.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's a major cock-up on Lawwell's part.}

09 Aug 2018 15:08:42
Ed you think Lawell will be held to account from Desmond as Mcginn would've fitted in great with the policy that we are aiming for.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - No.}

Always thought we'd have to score over there and we can't defend for 90 so will need to come out - il take any kind of win over 90ins but I think it will go to et.

Anymore on the young lad Chirivella from Liverpool? I had a quick look on YouTube at him and he looks a cracking player with the ball at his feet and loves a tackle n also plays a nice pass.

Looks like missing out on McGinn.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 15:17:37
An utter utter disgrace by the Celtic board. In today’s transfer market where players are going for tens of millions of pounds we have missed out on the best young Scottish player outside our club for the sake of a few hundred thousand. Hang your heads in shame and don’t be surprised if Brendan loses his faith and moves on after this season. For all BR has done for this club in the two years he’s been here you have let him and us supporters down badly.

Agree9 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 15:30:39
My main gripe is how long it seems to have taken for us to match Villa's offer (or react to McGinn travelling down there) . To an extent I can understand Celtic not going in with their top offer whilst we were the only club in the frame because then you leave yourself open to another club getting desperate and outbidding us completely. But what I can't accept is if there was an arrogance involved by our money men and an attitude that we would get our man just because we're Celtic.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 15:44:37
I normally don't wade on this subject but for once i agree. This is an embarrassment that he has been allowed to slip away, and unless there is substantially better alternative in the works, which i doubt, i will feel very disgruntled with the board and similarly i am growing concerned on BR position. id be royally pissed off.

Agree2 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 15:57:02
Guys

Hibs didn’t want to do business with us and that is that. Quoted us 3 million one day and changed it to 4 million the next. They are settling for 2.75 million from Villa.

Agree3 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 16:22:36
I was desperate for McGinn to sign but if he has gone there purely based on being told he will play every week then good luck to him. No one is guaranteed to start at Celtic. What he had was an opportunity to come to CP, train and develop under BR and fight his way into the team. This is a major embarrassment for Celtic though, i don't expect Celtic to pay over the odds for any player but considering this is a player BR spoke about he will not be happy. Celtic have had a month to get this done and we could easily have given them Allan plus the cash as he ain't playing anyway!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 16:30:20
I’ve absolutely no doubt Petrie would prefer to deal with villa instead of us when it comes to mcginn and if it’s true that Hibs were changing the goalposts regarding his fee then I find that strange as well. Surely a bid of say £2/ £2.5 million with maybe Allan or Christie thrown in would’ve been enough for Hibs to accept? I don’t accept there wasn’t a deal that our board couldn’t have came to if Brendan 100% wanted the boy in. All that said, if reports are to be believed we’ve now matched what villa have offered and if that is indeed the case then mcginn has a decision to make, he wouldn’t be the first player to travel to a club, agree terms in principle then move elsewhere. If he’s as big a Celtic fan as is made out and terms are the same as what’s on offer at villa then he’ll be back up the road to us, if not then we move on to players that do want to commit to our club.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 16:31:46
McGinn wouldn’t have got a game anyway. We have better players in the squad at the moment. If he goes to villa best of luck to him.

I am seriously concerned about Rodgers I would hate him to think he can’t take the club any further forward because he isn’t getting the backing he needs.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 16:37:36
Think people need to calm down, no one player will ever ever make or break Celtic.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 16:43:34
Ed, what's your take on this? . Is it not sensible that McGinn has his medical while already there so he doesn't have to fart about tomorrow, if, and only if, he and his reps decide that's the best move for him. Im assuming nothings a done deal yet?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - Nothing's been finalised but it would take a massive 'hijack' job by Celtic to get McGinn now.}

08 Aug 2018 17:13:01
There was £4 million mentioned when this saga started, that should have been Celtics opening offer, McGinn is easily as good as any other midfielder at Parkhead, big mistake letting him get away, if he is gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 17:23:26
Geez a break. Why should Celtic have to pay 4 million when other teams can have him for under 3?

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 17:46:18
Ed you know my feelings on the bhoy am gutted think he'd have been a real star for us cannot fathom out our logic here.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - It's a complete and utter cock-up on Lawwell's part.}

08 Aug 2018 18:03:32
Get McGinn tae fk if he really wants to come he will balll will be in his court.

Agree0 Disagree2

08 Aug 2018 18:10:36
The most celtic like transfer in history. If Lawwell doesn’t give Rodgers what he wants now then we will be in trouble. Who’s the second option to McGinn then? Is he lined up. I doubt it. Shambles.

Agree0 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 18:32:15
Yep ed lawells gambled and it's backfired and it was Brendan that wanted the bhoy that's why it's baffling.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 18:56:34
Football is all about opinions, and in my opinion midfield is where matches are won and lost. I feel missing out on Mcginn is a real body blow. Turning up to hard away ties, ibrox, pittodrie, tyncastle etc with a midfield of say Brown, Ntcham, McGregor, Rogic, Mcginn, would have made us so very hard to beat in the spfl. Especially with the drive both Mcginn and Brown poccess.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 19:11:57
This is a massive blunder by lawell he would have eventually took over from Broony and we're arguing about under a mill after the cash we've raked in never mind if we get into cl totally pissed off Tim the night.

Looks like McGinn to Villa is all but done. Could be a turning point both the board and BR. Either going to splash the cash or can see BR heading off to the Man Utd job in December when JM leaves.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 00:21:30
Evening times reporting that both Celtic and Villa have met McGinns valuation they're source is saying that people close to McGinn claim that McGinn thinks that first team chances maybe more available at Villa and is now weighing up his options.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

08 Aug 2018 08:18:35
If he's got faith in his ability then he should come to us and prove the doubters wrong.

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 09:20:37
If we had offered £2.75mill at the start we would have had him. Someone inside Celtic thought they could get him on a free because he was desperate to join. All the talk about £4mill was smoke and mirrors. PL maybe just outsmarted himself. At £2.75mill he is good business. In 3 or 4 years he will be worth maybe £15mill so because we messed about we may miss a decent player and a big profit. If I were McGinn I would also be a bit unhappy that Celtic didn't want him enough to pay £2.75mill.

Agree2 Disagree1

08 Aug 2018 11:39:37
I don't think we would have had him at the start.
In my opinion hibs were trying to string Celtic along to see what they could get from England before accepting a bit from us.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 12:10:30
Kev i hope if he does sign we now end all dealings with Hibs as long as Petrie is there.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 12:46:00
apparantley hibs will get £6m if they get promotion.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 14:10:48
Why blame this on Hibs?

They clearly had a valuation of him that we weren’t willing to meet that Aston Villa were. We were clearly waiting based on the assumption he wanted to join us. Now it looks like he’s joining them we decided to meet their valuation.

Poor from us to be honest.

Agree3 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 14:37:38
Andy going fae what I heard weeks ago and I've said on here a few time that hibs twice changed the price of the deal when talking to Celtic.

Agree1 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 14:56:16
Why not deal with hibs again? We offered £2m which hibs didn’t accept. Now villa have offered what hibs see as acceptable. What have hibs done wrong. It’s celtic thinking we can get him on the cheap that’s the problem.

Agree4 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 16:52:04
Kev, that could be true. But it didn’t take us long to agree a fee after he went down to Villa!

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 16:52:49
If celtic hadnt already bid 2mil, villa's bid would have been at that mark too. Villa had to raise it a bit cause we were already at the table. If BR was desperate for him do you not think hed be here. Wait till friday and we will plunder the english market for some decent talent.

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2018 19:14:35
1st time posting, if John McGinn does sign for AV then good luck because he will need it let’s look at AV do they get in Europe every season No, Steve Bruce be manager this time next year doubt it, will they get out of championship No so if this ambition then we don’t want him. Also did he not say Celtic was the only team he wanted to sign for .

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - If Villa aren't in the promotion places at Christmas, Steve Bruce won't be there - if he lasts that long.}
