Italian broadcaster reporting we are in for Capuano from Pescara, another young centre back. Don't know much about him, anyone seen him play or heard about this?
CBP

Believable30 Unbelievable9

Werent pescara relegated without a fight last year? if we are interested surely its one for the future as we need ready made experienced replacements to challenge for a starting 11 spot

Agree0 Disagree0

Mentioned him on here about 2 months ago. Would be a great signing!

LM67

Agree1 Disagree0

21 year old centre half 18 Caps for Italy under 21s left sided, can see some truth in this one looks decent on YouTube

Agree0 Disagree0

I said in a post last week that I would never look past Italians when looking for central defenders-they have made defending an art form! Paul

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd say we need experience at this stage and someone who can play. No more crap signings by Lennon.

Iain

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree with Iain, we do need a centre half who has European or International experience. However we've lost Rogne and Gershon and soon to lose Wilson and so far only Virgil and Mouyokolo have been brought in. Before the window opened I would have hoped we were signing an experienced CB before anybody left. If we get Capuano plus an older head in it'll be good business.

Pescara were the worst side in Serie A last term but they do have a very young side. If this guy is a CB playing quite regularly for Italy U21 then like Van Dijk, he's coming in with more 'pedigree' than most of our recent younger signings.

Develop Capuano and Van Dijk together in the league and I think we've got a central defensive partnership that can go a long way. For our European campaign though, get someone else in, plus we've got Mulgrew and Ambrose, if we need him (apart from his pace acting as a sort of sweeper I don't see any benefits of having him in the side, he's a mistake waiting to happen).

Agree0 Disagree0

The article I read is saying we are after him IF we reach the group stages, we need players in regardless. In the space of a couple of months Celtic have went from looking like potentially the best team we had had in a long time to looking very ordinary! That's what happens though when you sell your best players and try and replace them on the cheap. We can't always just sign rough diamond types, we are entitled to the finished article as well surely, or close to it, especially if they are still youngish with a resale value. In more than 30 years I've never know us to make a real statement of intent, but it's getting to the point where I can't take much more! You can fool some off the people some off the time, but you can't fool all of the people all off the time! I do use the word, people, very loosely! Paul

Agree2 Disagree0

Iain, are you for real?

crap signings by lennon? ok he's had a couple of dodgy ones but look at

mulgrew
commons
hooper
wanyama
wilson
ledley
matthews
forster
stokes
boerrigter

Agree2 Disagree0

This would be a very surprising move. He's well respected in Italy with both Bologna and Napoli have been showing interest in him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Paul, I agree with you to an extent the team is looking very ordinary just now but it's a fine line we have to walk financially. We are an exceptionally well run club, financially healthy and you only have to look at Rangers (RIP), Hearts and Dunfermiline to see what can happen if you splash the cash wrecklessly. It's not simple Maths with income and expenditure and there are agents fees, VAT, sell on clauses, signing on fees and bonuses that fans don't see to consider. That said the side does need strengthening by at least a Left Back (Izzy in shocking form), powerful Midfielder and goal scoring striker.

Also think the comments about statement of intent are unfair, what about Thom, Sutton, Hartson, VoH, hell even Rafael were all big expenditures. When I think of statements of intent I think of the folly of TA Flo signed to inflate the ego and leading to extinction.

guys need a center back and a left back.player we've been after to wear the famous number 7 is shane long its been on going since may making progress but a bit to go .

Agree0 Disagree0

Too much talk of money, some people speaking like its their own personal finances, its football your not supposed to make a profit just have a better team

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd play lustig at centre half, Mathews back at right back, lustig can play in there

Ska Bhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Shane Long? The guy who had 8 goals from August to November last season then only managed another 3 between December and May? Not good enough. Thanks, but no thanks!

Agree0 Disagree2

Lassad
Brozek
Miku
Ljungberg
Kapo
El kaddouri
Bangura
Ambrose
Juarez

All lennon signings- his success rate is 50/50. This CANNOT be argued.

Jamie mac

Agree0 Disagree0

To the guy slagging of Shane long- how many did Sutton or Larsson score the season before we signed them?

Never as good but he had an injury which let lukaku in and the form he was in last season means there's little shame on long for not starting/scoring as many as he'd have liked.

Jamie mac

Agree0 Disagree0

Bhoys and Ghirls, the moment you've all been waiting for: The new Celtic number 7 will be. Shane Long!

Not a bad player, but come on now. If you choose to associate a squad number with a player being of outstanding quality then pick someone better than Shane long. You're not the same person who suggested St.Ledger by any chance are you?

Agree0 Disagree0

No it wasnt me st ledger maybe 5 years ago we've got to be realistic long is a good player who has pace and can finish champions leauge football winning trophys playing to 60 000 better than west brom money always the issue but you need to pay it if we sign him now he gets us in to the group stages we get 15 million and the club profile is kept up

Agree0 Disagree0

Jamie mac.
Surely you have the sense to realize that the money spent and these players is minimal (excluding the final two). Kapo was there 3 months; I don't see us mentioning O'Neill's duff signings. Look at Fergie, djemba-djemba, Forlan, Tiabi, Veron, Anderson to name 5.

Lennon has definitely been successful in the transfer market. I personally think they must believe Ambrose will come good; they wouldn't keep persisting. It took Wilson a whole season to stop looking like a car-crash. His success rate is significantly better than 50-50.

Agree0 Disagree0

Even if it was 50 50 that's still a good success rate and plus its not exactly Lennon picking them all
Cha67

Agree0 Disagree0

Good signings to bad he is very very near even success/fail ratio.

The good signings he has made have and will make the club good money, so yes I have to agree he has done very well there and also, his poor signings bangura(2m) and Juarez(circa3.5m) have and continue to cost money, other then that the rest gave done nothing but take too.

Not particularly bothered about the finances of playing squad but I thought that must have been the successes you were referring too as I don't believe you can argue he's made many howlers on playing merits, surely not?

He has got better and I think he improve more still in that respect, here it comes, but he's got a point to prove to live up to the "makes great signings" tag attributed.

In van dijk and boerrigter I believe he's signed soundly so that's encouraging for the ones to come!

Jamie mac

Agree0 Disagree0

While were on the the subject always botherd me with du wie and mizuno even naka[ who was class] had to play in certain games because we were trying to tap into the far east market. fuly back looking at making more money for the club but don't like the idea that some1 tells the manager who plays who doesn't
[bobo balde][ best cb at the club when we were leaking goal] manager should always pick the team that's his job, we all know lennon would have took the job under any conditions but what a job he has done in the conditions board must back the manager and club the way the fans do GREEN GIANT

Im gutted that Kelvin Wilson is leaving, he is our best defender by a mile and I think we will struggle to replace him. Ambrose is not up to it IMO - who do you want to replace him fellow tims. I would like brede Hangeland from fulham. Thoughts?

Believable12 Unbelievable28

I'd play Mulgrew and Lustig at CB but I would like to see Gavin Gunning signed as a back up and future prospect.

Jamie

Agree0 Disagree2

Ambrose and Wilson were hopeless tonight.

Both not up to it imo.

Be happier if big Johan pulled back on the 35 shirt.

ambrose not good enough need to buy now shane long is the forward they want been trying since the end of the season its getting closer but still a bit away

Agree1 Disagree1

I've said before I'd give big johan a game and he'd still be better that this mob. I'd even bet Neil wouldn't give the ball away as much as brown and co did tonight. I draw the line at us getting McCoist as our next striker though. Anyone know where Chick Charnley ish

Agree0 Disagree0

This team needs good money spent on it, and it's the least the fans deserve. I'm losing the will to live -I'm all for the club being sensible with our cash, big time, but I also don't like being treated like an person. The whole spine of the team needs improved with first team picks, we need more creativity, we look far too workmanlike, Mulgrew is an average to good leftsided centre half, never a midfielder, From the second I saw Ambrose I didn't fancy him at all, the new lad Virgil is very young for a defender and I would drip feed him into the team. Its also a bit worrying when right back is the best part of our team! paul

Agree0 Disagree0

Hangeland would be a great signing if he wants to sign off his career with a couple of medals and a chance of playing in the C.L.but highly unlikely.Roger Johnson at Wolves would sem like a good option but Ed 007 dismissed that due to his previous misdemeanours at Wolves however it would be the career defining move for him and I'm sure Lenny could sort him out!

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2013 21:54:36
Whos to say van dijk and muyoloko or however you spell it won't do a job at the end of the day guys yes I worry about big efe as much as the next guy but he must have something how many other celtic players have been named in team of the week for uefa champs league and that was after barca away its about getting the guy back to basics and getting a consistency and that's where big johan should come into play ill say one thing at least the boy seems commited to the hoops

Agree0 Disagree1

Chic is in possil. doing as they do lol

Agree0 Disagree0

As an affordable solution, I would buy Sol Bamba from Trabzonspor. 28, 6'4'', physically dominant, athletic, and can also play football. Would cost about 2 million I reckon. Likely to be away at AfCON as he plays for Cote d'Ivoire. Jean-Pierre Laguerre

Agree0 Disagree1

That was supposed to say - treated like an idiot, I hate saying it but I feel the Celtic fans(more than any other) are taken for granted. I heard Lenny say after the game there that he is planning a few signings, well that's at least 3, so get it done. My mother, God rest her, used to always say/it's also Alan Sugar's favorite saying-action speaks louder than words! A huge club/business like us can operate WITH debt, we've got none, what's the problem? For once show some ambition! let's get through this last qualifier and go and give the group stages a right go and get everyone around Europe glowing about Celtic again! Paul

Agree1 Disagree0

Wilson is a loss only for his pace nothing else. banguera had efe in his pocket tonite.we need pace and strength at cb, sol Bamba not a bad shout. our whole season depended on tonites result, well done boys for getn us threw, now mr Lowell spend the £10m on the 3players we need.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd like to say all the very best to big Kelvin and as far as I'm concerned he'll be welcomed back anytime at paradise. While he may not be the most gifted player to wear the hoops in my opinion he wore them to the best of his ability and gave his all on every occasion. He is clearly going back to Forrest because of his family, cause he could easily get a move to a more prestigious team with a manager that didn't previously freeze him out. For that reason you have to take your hat off to him for playing tonight so I say hail hail Kelvin and god bless.

Agree1 Disagree0

Imo Wilson and Ambrose are still better than heid and Caldwell, not one player good tonight Ambrose wasn't the worst.Forrest was utter gash.

Agree1 Disagree1

Sol Bamba? You having a laugh? He was horrific at hibs I remember watching him a few times getting the run around from the currants don't want him anywhere near a Celtic top

Agree1 Disagree0

Virgil ment to be the real deal, young Callum waters is from Kilsyth, where I'm from, and told his uncle when he was in Germany on pre-season that he oozed class but Balde couldn't trap a medicine ball. I do agree with Ambrose comments that he ain't good enough, bangura bullied him!

Peter

Agree0 Disagree0

You are simply pulling a name from the clouds. hangeland is on roughly 40k a week at fulham and would not take a 50% wage cut to join us. get real

Agree0 Disagree0

Thank god he's away, he was utter gash but so is Ambrose, hope he's next

Fitzy1888

Agree0 Disagree0

My worry is our manager believing our defence were great last night! Bloody hell, Big Iffy didn't win one header all night, Wilson was his usual, no positional sense and his speed the only plus in getting him out of trouble. We need two CB's and a left back as Emilo is a shadow of the player before the injury.

Delbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

08 Aug 2013 10:58:18
Honestly there's someone called yaya banana

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't get the fuss about Wilson leaving, he was/is average at best. Completely disagree with him being picked last night in an important game, a game where we needed everyone 110% focussed and commited, no passengers.

Lennon saying the team are running on empty. We're only in August, one game into the domestic campaign?!

We're screaming out for two CB's, a LB, a creative MF and one or two goalscoring FW's. We're woeful too watch at the moment!

Agree0 Disagree0

"Imo Wilson and Ambrose are still better than heid and Caldwell"

The "Heid" was Caldwell!

Agree0 Disagree0

Kevin Wilson done a great job last night .i didn't think we should have played him but he done us proud and lenny proved me wrong the man was up to the task and can leave with head held high good luck big man sometimes there are bigger things than football all the best

Poor performance tonight but we made it. Question for my fellow bhoys who would we like to get and who would you hate to get? {Ed007's Note - Going by my reckoning (I might be miles out though) we will play one of these teams:
Austria Wien, Maribor, Shakther Karagandy, Ludogorets Razgrad or the winner of Legia Warsaw v Molde match The second half of that match has just kicked off.}

Believable4 Unbelievable6

Molde

Wouldn't fancy coming up against Hosiner or playing in Kazakhstan! Wouldn't mind Molde if they win and keep the Scandinavian theme going!

Agree0 Disagree0

Anyone on grass! {Ed007's Note - I don't think we should talk about that, you never know who's reading it.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Karagandy or Razgrad going by co efficient points. Though Karagandy were good enough to put out BATE in the second round. They won home and away which is impressive. They leaked goals in Albania though. Bulgaria for me. Razgrad had great colours and we could try and involve Stan Petrov in some way? I know he played for Sofia though.

According to several sources in the Irish media, Paddy McCourts brother/Agent has said that he is 99% sure Pat will be joining LA Galaxy at the beginning of the MLS season in October. He will continue training with Hibernian until then as he doesn't want to ship his family out before necessary.

"Marseille agree to sign Tunisia international Saber Khlifa from Evian subject to a medical.

Last season's French league runner-up says it has agreed a deal in principle for Khlifa and the striker will undergo a medical "at the end of the week."

The 26-year-old Khlifa made 83 appearances in two seasons at Evian and scored 25 goals, including a stunning strike from inside his own half against Nice last campaign. Several clubs were interested in Khlifa but he opted for Marseille and Champions League football."

Well that puts him to bed, so that's one less target out there. No doubt be fending for the scraps of the transfer window no one wants.

Believable10 Unbelievable5

Sorry but 25 in 83 games ain't a good return for me am telling yous boys johannsson of az Alkmar is 22 and prolific he is the 1.

Agree0 Disagree1

I wonder which Evian player we'll be interested in now. Never wanted us to sign this guy anyway, and I believe we were never trying to.

Agree0 Disagree0

I said weeks ago we wouldn't sign him, wasn't believed our no1 signing target is the lad from herneven(spelling) only if we font get priced out, lenny needs to move now before others go for him, as I've heard a few EPL teams are interested in him, everton have him on their radar so do Crystal Palace, all they will need to do is offer him high wages and our chances of getting him will be gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Aug 2013 10:22:45
So it's looking ever more likely that Kelvin Wilson is on his way. Was just wondering Ed if there are any whispers of a potential replacement? Or if one will even be brought in?

Spuddy {Ed007's Note - I think one will need to be brought in unless NL is planning to move Lustig into the middle and play Matthews as RB more regularly. The only name I have heard mentioned is Shane Lowry from Millwall.}

Believable5 Unbelievable3

I don't think he will bring anybody in. We have Mulgrew, Van Dijk, Mouyokolo, Ambrose, Lustig(if needed). Plenty of cover there if need be, then there are guys like Findlay, Fraser from the reserves

Samson

Agree1 Disagree0

I'd imagine NL will be lookin to play Van Dijk in the middle? {Ed007's Note - I think he might be slowly bedded into the team over this season rather than plunged in as a regular starter. He is still only 22 but I am expecting big things from him over time. As I said with Boeririgter, coming from Holland Van Dijk should be technically one of the better players in Scotland.}

Agree0 Disagree0

After that performance tonight Ambrose should never be played as a CB. Don't remember him winning one high ball, we badly need a comanding CB going forward.
Delbhoy

Agree0 Disagree0

Would be very disappointed if we go for Lowry - not good enough for either ireland or australia national teams and he qualifies for both. Also not big enough, and unlikely to attract epl interest even if we develop him, so limited sell-on options. Jean-Pierre Laguerre
